Salad was great and Pizzas were both delicious- we had the Margherita and Pepperoni. Dough was light and fluffy and wonderfully crispy with a little char from the wood fired oven. Loved them both. Bonus, if you are a person that…read moreenjoys looking at boats & being along the water's edge, this is a lovely place in Cowichan Bay to enjoy a meal with a view. Truthfully, I go for their crepes, but my friends are always bey happy with their other menu choices too. The staff is friendly and we never feel rush to eat & leave. This isn't a place you need to really dress up to feel you fit in. However, you also could if the mood suits you & still not feel out of place. Truly, I am happy that they even have tables on the main level that accommodate those with mobility aids. However, that being said, I am struggling to recall if there would be a easy enough way for a wheelchair or even a walker to make it to the main door. I'll have to remember to focus on that long enough before my next crepe eating bliss hits. As Cowichan Bay is a popular area to stop for meals, do plan to go in advance for parking. As even if there are a few spots for the restaurant, there isn't enough space to accommodate the full restaurant. If you are able to find a spot at the restaurant or are double parking at the restaurant (which is apparently allowed), it is good to let the server know what vehicle is yours. Beyond more than mention "I've parked my vehicle here", so a server can notify you if people need to be let out of the space if they're leaving before you're done. If you don''re not lucky enough to grab a parking spot right at the restaurant, you might have to go far up the road (sometimes almost to the hotel) or down the road (towards the parking area by the pubic washrooms) to reach any parking options. Definitely try it out if you are looking fit an option in Cowichan Bay. I know I'm looking forward to many more future happy crepe eating moments here with friends.

Huge shoutout to Owner-turned-Mixology-Mastermind Jeff, who absolutely crushed it behind the bar -- every cocktail and mocktail was a handcrafted work of art that could hold court in any top-tier city. We're talking serious flavour fireworks here. And April -- what can we say? Her service made us feel like VIPs who owned the joint. She read the room, anticipated every move, and wrapped the whole evening in the kind of hospitality you can't teach: pure instinct, heart, and grace. The food? Next level. Every bite was a flex of flavor and presentation. The kitchen is clearly playing in its own league, balancing creativity with pure culinary muscle. Combine that with an ambience that feels like cozy meets cool, and you've got an absolute home run. If you haven't experienced Firehouse Grill yet, fix that immediately.

There's a parking lot on the lower part of hill, if you're not lucky to snag the few spots up front. I went here on a night that I just didn't feel like cooking supper & to enjoy the bay views before it got too dark. There was some larger groups eating/celebrating plus a smattering of smaller tables. I didn't notice more than one waitress & occasionally what I think was a manager on the floor serving. I wasn't in a huge rush to order but I do think the was some very long waiting periods to get a menu, get my a non-alcoholic drink and even much longer to be noticed I just wanted to get the bill to leave. I did appreciate that it was delivered warm. It wasn't a slammed place, but I do also understand when a waitress is running on fumes. So perhaps the bartender & manager could step in when when gaps need to be filled (as I noticed there was more tables awkwardly waiting to pay than me). Food was decent helping but nothing I would say was at a wow factor. I only had one meal here but my friends that have stopped here several times had good remarks about their meals. So maybe another stop by when I'm in the area is worth a second shot & enjoy a view to the water.

Driving along one of the country roads in North Cowichan you will find many local vineyards. Saison is in fact a vineyard but they don't specialize in wine tasting. It appears they do grow grapes but sell them to other producers on the island or perhaps they create their own family wine. What they do specialize in is a wonderful bakery. Upon entering the gate you are faced with a beautiful vineyard to the right and a lovely country home with meticulously landscaped grounds to the left. Continue up the driveway to the parking area above a little cottage. Walk down the 10 steps to the patio that overlooks a beautiful field of gardens and Mt. Prevost sticking out in the distance. In the summer there are little tables set out all over the patio along with a small stand filled with fresh produce grown in the gardens you see below. All the produce is picked daily during the season and for sale to the public. The place is filled with lots of locals and on bikers. So many bikers will make this a stop on their bike tour of the island. They come here to enjoy the many delicious baked goods: breads, rolls, pastries, pizza, etc. They also can enjoy coffee, tea and soups. During the summer if you can get your hands on some of their gazpacho you will become a fan! I want their recipe for this amazing nectar of the tomato gods. I would love to see Saison have an evening on the patio. They could hire a musician, pour wine and serve some of their lovely bread with local charcuterie and cheese. Maybe one day but for now you can enjoy all they have to offer on Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 4. Saison has a great formula and is certainly a destination spot if you come to Vancouver Island for any reason.
