We were recommended here by our tour guide during our first, but brief visit to Cascais. I was slightly hesitant because of the reviews, but also quite hungry and wanted seafood. It almost seemed questionable if we would get in, but the downstairs was empty, and the hostess asked for our phone number and sent us upstairs. We were seated, albeit like sardines between two other tables. I will say it did take about 15-20 minutes for a server to even come by, and we just ordered everything at once. We opted for a bottle of wine, the crab dip appetizer, and two plates. As we watched the tables on each side of us order plate after plate, each one getting progressively larger and more extravagant, we thought perhaps we under-ordered! Our wine arrived, which was light, and complimented our food perfectly. The crab dip was served in a large hollowed out crab shell, and was delicious, probably the best I've ever had, as it actually tasted like crab, with big chunks! My husband ordered a fish dish, and I went for the octopus, as I hadn't yet had any in Portugal. They were absolutely delicious, and quite large! The octopus was especially wonderful, and blew away every other piece of octopus I've eaten in my whole life. My husband didn't believe me when I said it had the consistency more like chicken, and none of the typical chewiness that they usually have...until he tasted it and nearly fell out of his chair. It was perfect. I wish we had gotten the fish soup, but I don't think I could have made it through the octopus if I had. The fish dish was also cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and so fresh! While it may be a bit cramped and crowded inside, the service could be a little friendlier, and it's a tad loud, the food far and above makes up for it all, which is what counts most!

After a terrible meal in Lisbon the night before, this was redemption and an excellent meal with friendly service. We had a couple huge platters of seafood - salmon, turbot, sea bass, squid, prawns, and clams. My favorite was definitely the clams, so good. And service was friendly. Wine was good too. We also ordered some Portuguese cognac which was nice. If you love seafood this is the place to go! And amazing views too.

Baía do Peixe is an upscale chain seafood restaurant offered throughout Portugal. It's often situated along a tourist spot area by the water, which can give a great view of the city. We ordered one of the all-you-can-eat seafood platters, and each tray came with a wide variety of hot and cold dishes. My overall experience was much more defined by quantity over quality-- the seafood themselves were standard fare. Just don't make my mistake and eat so much that you're now sick of shrimp and mussels.

Fish soup and grilled shrimp

Delicious meal, great views, service amazing. We had the fish soup, the grilled shrimp and the grilled octopus. This last one was probably the best one I've had in my life. Tender, flavorful, absolutely delicious. Definitely would go back.

Table setting

After walking and touring nearby museums, we decided to try here. We had no reservations but were able to get a table quickly. We ordered the polpp salad, mussels, and grilled prawns and squid, which came with sautéed veggies. The portions were good, and we had leftover polpo salad for another meal. Service was good as well.

This is the only restaurant in Portugal that asked for a tip. Afterwards I realized they ripped me off because VAT was included in my meal price. Don't fall for the tip is not included, it might be because I am American. My server was on the grumpy side and never once smiled, but I think that is his personality, he smiled for no one. Food: I ordered the pasta with chile, calamari, and shrimp. It was a unique pasta with garlic and tiny amounts of ginger, that played very well and there was like 2 chile rings and then calamari and shrimp. The pasta was cooked perfectly and right amount of sauce that just played well together. The calamari was cooked to perfection as was the shrimp but a few were not cleaned properly but everything tasted good. The chile did have a tiny bite so somebody might think this is spicy but was not for me, finally something with flavor. I did not eat all the pasta because then I ordered the octopus. The octopus was not cleaned properly but the texture was spot on and the taste was great, I added some of my own hot sauce on the side to give it some kick. Odd to have a boiled egg with the octopus, good taste but the green ring indicates the egg was overcooked. Everything was temperature hot and served fairly quickly. WiFi available. I should have just ordered the pasta because that was fantastic! The octopus was okay but took some work to clean. The pasta gives this place a 5. Service and tip with VAT already included would drop to 2. The octopus is 3 stars. But the pasta was the best meal thus far in Portugal.

They describe it as a gastronomic experience, so to say that my friend and I were excited is an understatement. Already sat on the table were some tasty morsels - the bread Selection with homemade butters, tuna pâté, crab pâté and cheese that was marinated in olive oil and paprika. This was a charming start to the meal and experience. We quickly followed it with starters of roasted scallops with sweet potato purée and bacon and garlic Shrimp and green wine sauce. Our excellent waiter recommended the veal entrecote with onion purée and the whole grilled seabass for main course and we went with his recommendation. He certainly knows what he is talking about. Lesson learned - listen to your waiter! Making room for dessert is a speciality that my friend and I have mastered over the years. This time we made room for Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Coulis, Dark Chocolate Dome, Caramel and Cherry Ice Cream and Sardine Ice cream. Not our usual trio but tasted great. All the while, we watched the beauty of the ocean from our elevated view. It was an amazing way to spend a lunch. Highly recommended for anyone at any time. Sooo I was so happy to find Restaurante Mar Do Inferno! It had gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean and the best seafood ! We made our reservation online before leaving California. It was easy and had an English and Portuguese option. We arrived and once we got there we were greeted warmly and seated quickly . There were all these fresh seafood options that you could pick from in live tanks ! Service was top tier !! Our waiter was funny and very entertaining! He warmed up even more as the evening progressed! We had the best view of the sea and ambiance was lovely ! We ordered the seafood platter - langoustines, lobster, prawns, sea bream, potatoes in a garlic butter sauce !! Everything was SO FRESH!! So delicious !!! Great wine selection especially European wines and cocktails too !! Hubby loved it and we definitely will come back next time we are in Portugal!!

Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing--and most expensive--meal we've had during our month in Portugal. The experience got off to a poor start. The hostess wasn't welcoming, and when I politely asked if we could sit closer to the window, I was told those tables had been reserved weeks in advance. We had also made a reservation for our anniversary, so that was disappointing. We were seated behind a pillar instead. Throughout the evening, not a single member of the waitstaff smiled. They all looked unhappy to be there, which created a surprisingly cold atmosphere. None of the staff ever came by to ask how our meal was, and no one acknowledged our anniversary. The restaurant itself wasn't nearly as elegant or luxurious as its reputation suggests. Aside from the lobster tank, the décor and atmosphere felt rather ordinary. To make matters worse, our view overlooked a wire fence and a parking area instead of the beautiful ocean setting we had expected. There were also several odd service issues. I ordered a gin martini. They said they were out of green olives, so I requested a lemon twist instead. The drink arrived with black olives and a lemon twist, which was confusing. As for the food, the complimentary bread with the crab pâté was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, everything after that was underwhelming. The sea bass was bland and forgettable, and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of being mushy. What made the evening especially disappointing is that every other restaurant we've visited in Cascais has been wonderful. Friendly, smiling staff checked on us, made us feel welcome, and served memorable meals--often at much lower prices. Given Mar do Inferno's reputation and premium prices, we expected an exceptional dining experience. Instead, we left wondering how it has earned such glowing reviews. I genuinely hope management takes a close look at the service, atmosphere, and food quality, because right now the restaurant simply doesn't live up to its reputation.

Our server was adorable and bubbly with a great sense of humor. She did get really busy though toward the end of our meal and it was a challenge to flag her down for our check. With that said, she provided exceptional service earlier. This is the kind of place you want to go to with others who love tasting a variety of dishes. I went with my family who is not into that concept, and so I had to choose just one dish that I would not be sharing, as no one else wanted to share theirs either. Some of the dishes were quite small, but mine was not! I ordered the octopus which was cooked to perfection and had a mix of potatoes and greens underneath. Would definitely order this again! It was one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had. The one thing we did share was the croquettes. They were delightful, but kind of expensive as they were 1.70Euros each and were literally one bite, but a very flavorful bite at that. I also had a few glasses of their summer sangria which I rather enjoyed. I would return here when in Cascais again, but maybe with a different group of people so that we can treat it as tapas as it should be instead of individual dishes. There's so much more I want to try from their menu!

We split 3 dishes and definitely couldn't do a 4th as the portions were perfect to share. Dishes we ordered were the octopus with Migas, the wild crispy shrimps and the Ze Povinho which is black pork cheeks slow cooked in red wine. The octopus was incredibly tender and served over potatoes that had a lot of flavor. The shrimps were 4 large (prawns not sure why they were called shrimo?) were fried but nice and juicy. The puree of the avocado and mango with the prawns was a winning combo! We were both pretty full but ate every bit of the pork beef cheeks which was served with au gratin potato that had a hint of dill in it which I was surprised I like as I'm not a huge dill fan.. Once we got to this spot and this are in general we knew it was the place to be at. Monday evening and packed!
