    Brown crab

Loved this place! Great location in the market. Browse the vendors (clothes, vintage, pottery - depending on the day) and stop in for an amazing seafood meal. We loved it so much we went numerous times for lunch after visiting the market. Here's how it works: - Grab a table. - Go to seafood counter and check out all the offerings. - Discuss and order what you want at the counter. - Order the menu food from your table We were also blown away by the offerings. So many varieties of crustaceans, some I had never heard of (and I really like to eat seafood). On the numerous visits, we tried a lot: - cardinal shrimp: AMAZING, has ruined shrimp for me. So delicious and enormous, really worth splitting one! - limpets: classic buttery, always wanted to have this dish - sea urchins: so fresh and delicious - razor clams: cooked in olive oil, garlic, and cilantro - really good - brown crab: full crab served room temperature with the dip made of the goo served with Melba toast. Very interesting! - seafood soup: so so good, comes with chunks of shrimp - gooseneck barnacles: first time trying this. So interesting, tastes like a sweeter clam. - chips: hot, fresh cut potato chips - white sangria: really delicious and fresh Super good, you must try!! Service was always good

I gave 1 star because of the water view and I have to give a star to put my review. The customer service is awful. We wanted a table to have a fresh seafood lunch, because you have the possibility to choose your fresh live seafood at the counter . We have been told no table at the time ok no problem, we can wait at the bar. We decided to have drinks, after 30 Minutes wait the waiter decided to take our order , 20 Minutes later we had our drink, still no table available meanwhile few tables were empty. We had to run after the waitress to order some appetizers, she took our order, gooseneck barnacles, pulpo salad and a beer. This waitress 40 minutes later the waitress came with the gooseneck barnacles. At this point we asked for the check it was ridiculous. She had the nerves to bring the check included the pulpo salads we never received telling us you ordered it, yes we ordered and we never received the beer and the salads. This same waitress had the nerves to give us attitude because she had to update the bill. What a bad experience for a tourist. We went somewhere else to spend ou tourist money.

So good!!!! Sooooo good!I love the crab, so delicious and fresh!!! Everyone must try in Lisbon.

really good seafood place, you can order by the pound and get a variety of different seafood, they are all really fresh and they cook it right in the kitchen there for you, some of the dishes are cold, like the barnacles, but they are pretty good nonetheless

This is one of the new restaurants that were established when the old Cascais market was renovated and remodelled into the more contemporary mix of international streetfood & local products version. The market is well worth a visit, especially on Saturdays morning there are huge crowds. The restaurant is worth a visit too. Its nicely decorated and has an easy, modern touch. You choose your dishes (mostly seafood) at a counter and get served at your table. We had prawns and freshly cooked zapateira (thats a 25 min wait and you have to ask for it) and both were good quality though imho a little bit pricey. The service was friendly. I'd revisit the restaurant with friends from abroad not just for the atmosphere.

Excellent seafood! Love Cascais and you have Togo to Mariscos best seafood! That's all!

We came here for a seafood hit whilst in Cascais and we were not disappointed. The concept of the restaurant is that you prick the fish that you want and how much that you want which works well. However, it is not clear as some bits you have to order from the menu and others from the fish counter and the staff were all over the shop - it was not efficient. Yet, the food was really good we had prawns, tiger prawns and muscles and everything was cooked really well. For a different fish experience this would be the place!

Codfish was way overcooked. Tasted like rubber essentially. Seafood was running out at early dinner time.

But I guess everyone got that memo too, because there were several people waiting ahead of us. So looking next door was Mariscaria. After looking over their menu we decided to eat there. Obviously a lot of seafood. Emenu though isnt as extensive as most places in America. Customer service is OK. I do love how tip/gratuity is not automatically included in the price of the meal here in Lisbon (take notes America). Took a long time for our food, even our appetizer, to come out. By then the wines were already room temp. But all was forgiven when the food came out. Im a firm believer that its better to do a few things really well, then to have a lot but do them mediocre. The food here was amazing!! So fresh. You can taste their natural flavors. We ordered their octopus salad. Nothing like what you see in America. Small amount of greens only. The octopus was the star as it should be. Not chewy. Flavored well. It was really good. Truly an appetizer. For entree we got their mixed seafood platter that serves 2. Its 65 euro, but the quality was amazing. And the portion was really good too. My wife left full and happy. There were several different seafoods on the plate. There was sea bass, tuna steak, squid, salmon and some fingerling potatoes. Added some lemon juice on them and they were amazing!! Each cooked to perfection. Flavors were all different. Textures. Cooking methods. All different. All very good!! Potatoes were the perfect starch to go with it. We had their vinho verde (a thing in Lisbon, never heard of it before), which wasent actually green. Had a subtle green tinge to it. But it was just dry. Not very good. I also had their red sangria. It was really good. Sweet. Fruity. They wvwn left the fruit in there for me to eat. After a liter pitcher of that, I was feeling good!! Ambiance hwre is beautiful. Nice shade covering to protect you from the sun. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating. Smoking in restaurants is something new to me. Its disgusting to me, in my personal opinion, but its not the restaurants fault. Overall though. The food was really good. Simple yet complex. Beautifully balanced. Tasted amazing. Took a little of time for the food to come out, but this place is worth the wait.

They describe it as a gastronomic experience, so to say that my friend and I were excited is an understatement. Already sat on the table were some tasty morsels - the bread Selection with homemade butters, tuna pâté, crab pâté and cheese that was marinated in olive oil and paprika. This was a charming start to the meal and experience. We quickly followed it with starters of roasted scallops with sweet potato purée and bacon and garlic Shrimp and green wine sauce. Our excellent waiter recommended the veal entrecote with onion purée and the whole grilled seabass for main course and we went with his recommendation. He certainly knows what he is talking about. Lesson learned - listen to your waiter! Making room for dessert is a speciality that my friend and I have mastered over the years. This time we made room for Cheesecake with Passion Fruit Coulis, Dark Chocolate Dome, Caramel and Cherry Ice Cream and Sardine Ice cream. Not our usual trio but tasted great. All the while, we watched the beauty of the ocean from our elevated view. It was an amazing way to spend a lunch. Highly recommended for anyone at any time. Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing--and most expensive--meal we've had during our month in Portugal. The experience got off to a poor start. The hostess wasn't welcoming, and when I politely asked if we could sit closer to the window, I was told those tables had been reserved weeks in advance. We had also made a reservation for our anniversary, so that was disappointing. We were seated behind a pillar instead. Throughout the evening, not a single member of the waitstaff smiled. They all looked unhappy to be there, which created a surprisingly cold atmosphere. None of the staff ever came by to ask how our meal was, and no one acknowledged our anniversary. The restaurant itself wasn't nearly as elegant or luxurious as its reputation suggests. Aside from the lobster tank, the décor and atmosphere felt rather ordinary. To make matters worse, our view overlooked a wire fence and a parking area instead of the beautiful ocean setting we had expected. There were also several odd service issues. I ordered a gin martini. They said they were out of green olives, so I requested a lemon twist instead. The drink arrived with black olives and a lemon twist, which was confusing. As for the food, the complimentary bread with the crab pâté was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, everything after that was underwhelming. The sea bass was bland and forgettable, and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of being mushy. What made the evening especially disappointing is that every other restaurant we've visited in Cascais has been wonderful. Friendly, smiling staff checked on us, made us feel welcome, and served memorable meals--often at much lower prices. Given Mar do Inferno's reputation and premium prices, we expected an exceptional dining experience. Instead, we left wondering how it has earned such glowing reviews. I genuinely hope management takes a close look at the service, atmosphere, and food quality, because right now the restaurant simply doesn't live up to its reputation.

Our server was adorable and bubbly with a great sense of humor. She did get really busy though toward the end of our meal and it was a challenge to flag her down for our check. With that said, she provided exceptional service earlier. This is the kind of place you want to go to with others who love tasting a variety of dishes. I went with my family who is not into that concept, and so I had to choose just one dish that I would not be sharing, as no one else wanted to share theirs either. Some of the dishes were quite small, but mine was not! I ordered the octopus which was cooked to perfection and had a mix of potatoes and greens underneath. Would definitely order this again! It was one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had. The one thing we did share was the croquettes. They were delightful, but kind of expensive as they were 1.70Euros each and were literally one bite, but a very flavorful bite at that. I also had a few glasses of their summer sangria which I rather enjoyed. I would return here when in Cascais again, but maybe with a different group of people so that we can treat it as tapas as it should be instead of individual dishes. There's so much more I want to try from their menu!

It sports a large outdoor dining area (roughly 20+ tables). Our waiter (as so many in Lisbon) also spoke English, Spanish, and a little French. We all had fun(?) trying to practice our own other language with him (me Sp and her Fr). He was... polite. There are multiple seafood platters on their menu and they are somewhat grouped by theme such as primarily shellfish or primarily fish. We opted for the shellfish (crab, shrimp, clams, snails, even barnacles!) all ocean-derived and nearly all are served precooked/chilled FYI. I lamented to our waiter that there might be too many shrimp and maybe not enough crab. He said, but why, it's all you can eat! Whaaat? This is nowhere clear from the menu but that made our decision easy. We tweaked the initial order and subsequently got a couple of refills on the crab claws once we finished the (enormous) first platter. The barnacles were our least favorite - roughly 1 inch long rubbery, super salty tubes. In Portugal, as most of Europe, there is no free tap water. Anywhere. There is ample plain (bottled) or sparkling (bottled) and each always comes in glass (different brands) and typically runs about 3 Euros for either. Throughout the week I made accidental requests for "seltzer" and always received a "pardon?" Their terms are sparkling or "with gas." Our bill total came to €101 which included about €10 in VAT tax, two orders of bread; two glasses of wine and a bottle of water. Not bad at all. Service was consistently slow and you had to "find/hail" your waiter for anything. We learned this was the norm in most restaurants throughout Europe and tipping is generally not expected because they all receive standard wages. We tacked on 5-10% nearly everywhere because, well, one less reason to dislike Americans?
