Fava's Restaurant - Coconut Pie

Fava's Restaurant

On a recent Saturday, we had friends visiting from Huntsville, and--like always--a tour of the…read moreKentucky Bourbon Trail was part of the plan. After leaving yet another distillery, the ladies in our group wanted to head to Georgetown for some shopping. But before the shopping could begin, we needed lunch. We had stopped at Fava's a few weeks earlier with another group of friends for breakfast, and it was excellent. With that great experience in mind, we decided to try Fava's again, this time for lunch. The décor is classic Old Town Kentucky--exactly the kind of place that brings back childhood memories of small-town restaurants. Charming, comfortable, and familiar. We seated ourselves and looked over the menu. I went with the chili cheese hot dog with fries. My wife and one of our friends chose the open-faced Reuben, and the last member of our group ordered the club sandwich. Every dish was excellent. The club sandwich was so large it required a to-go box. Before leaving, everyone except me ordered pie to go-- Fava's pies are legendary, at least to my wife and me. I skipped dessert this time and immediately regretted missing their ice cream options. We dropped the pies off in the car (it was cold enough outside to keep them safe), and then the ladies headed off to explore the shops of Georgetown. And I cannot leave out the wait staff, very attentive and friendly . This was my second visit to Fava's, and both times have been outstanding. I'm already looking forward to our next "shopping trip" to Georgetown so I can enjoy their food again--and this time, I won't miss out on the ice cream.

I was too full to try their pie, and it was too hot for me to get one to-go, but it looked amazing! No major complaints, but when we arrived, someone just yelled from kinda far back for us to seat ourselves and then the available tables didn't look like they'd been cleaned.

Not really sure how I feel about this Cracker Barrel. It's a hit or miss…read more The first time I was in there, I was sat at a dirty table with dishes still on it just push to the corner told that somebody would be there to pick them up . When the server came up to me, she kept calling me, darling, honey sweetheart, and brought me a cup of coffee that was half full that look like it had been sitting on somebody's table when she brought it to me so I asked her to bring me a fresh cup of coffee She had a little bit of an attitude and this was a morning server. Then I come in and I had the sweetest young man Jackson come up and take my ticket order. I told him I would appreciate it if my food would come out hot because I have sat inside the restaurant and been served cold food too many times he took my order And I tipped him well and my food was out in less than five minutes and by the time I drove home, my food was still hot. I was very impressed with him but other times I'll come in and place a tickle order and it'll take me 20 minutes if not longer to get my food and when I get to the car, it's cold and I don't mind but when I know that it's something that's already been made and dip products. I know it doesn't take that long to make. I just think that some places need to really concentrate on customer service and cleanliness a little bit more even the bathrooms are always dirty. I love Cracker Barrel but my name is not sweetheart darling or honey and I have been in F&B for over 35 years and I find it to be very unprofessional

I wish I had took some pictures of how amazing the food looked . The atmosphere here is very laid back and comfy, the perfect place to go with friends for brunch or even for a book club meeting . The food was hot and fresh and the lady who took care of us couldn't have been nicer . I will definitely be returning in the future.

I had hopes for this place because I was hungry and it was the closest open place on my way and I…read morerealized later that I should have waited. The name of the restaurant is the porch but you don't sit on a porch or near a porch. There is a house attached where the owner probably lives. Inside there is a lot of eye sores. There is a market area in the middle with a lot of different products without any theme. On the wall there are more products for sale and then next to the bathroom there are beauty products. Why? I have no idea. I thought I was coming to eat. So, clearly there is an identity crisis happening here. Are you a restaurant or a store or are you just trying to make some money any way possible ? My suggestion ? Get rid of all that stuff in the middle and on the wall and open up the space a bit. And then there is the service. My server was this young lady who seemed like it was her first day. Most of her answers were I am not sure and idk. I asked about what teas are available and a gentleman told me they have flavors with pumps?? I guess he thought it was for coffee even though I clarified that it was for tea. When I did receive the tea, I received a cup of hot water where I had to go pick up the tea and there was three types of tea bags. So no one knows what's going on. I also ordered the specialty drink for the day and guess what they were out of the milk needed to make said speciality drink. No almond milk, no soy milk, no coconut milk. So I received about an inch of hot bitter coffee with bourbon. I ordered the croissant sandwich which flavor wise it was okay but why is it called a croissant when it is not a croissant ? It's not even croissant adjacent ! Do we not know what's a croissant ? Do we not know how to make it ? Like go to Costco and buy 12 of them for $6 if you are desperate. And here is the final nail in the coffin. The food came on a paper plate. WHAT?! What kind of respectful restaurant gives food on a paper plate ?! That's a million no. You are not a food truck. You are not a hot dog stand. Respect your customers and yourself and get some real plates and cutlery. This place screams incompetence and laziness. Conclusion: save your money people and go eat somewhere else.

I was super excited for a health food smoothie bar to open in Georgetown! I mean, that's awesome…read more Just what we needed!! When I heard about the Wooden Straw and saw all my friends checking in on Facebook, talking about how wonderful this place was, I had high hopes. Well. I walked in and noticed immediately that everything is Herbalife. Here's the thing, as someone that has tried a variety of different health food shakes on the marketing and is actively reading labels & trying to eat healthy (mostly Paleo), I know that Herbalife is NOT one of the best ones out there. A quick look at the ingredients of the Formula 1 product (that they use for their shakes, I believe) shows a very little amount of actual nutrition or/and protein. Meh. There are also Herballife products all over the place. SO. With that in mind, I decided to push aside my bias and try a shake anyway. I mean, it has to be healthier than a Big Mac, right? (It is. I'm not arguing that.) For $6.50, you get three things: a shot of aloe, a cup of tea, and a shake! You have the option of the aloe being put in the tea, which is what I always do when I come here (yes, I've been here several times now). I usually opt for the Chai tea, but there is also green tea, raspberry tea, and another flavor available. The raspberry is good, too! I always get iced tea. I think hot tea is an option, but not entirely sure. Now. The shakes. Oh, my goodness, the chalkboard wall just has wayyyy too many options! I didn't know what to get! There are mutiple different flavor formulas that can create even more flavored shakes! Some of these include vanilla, chocolate, cafe latte, dulce de leche, pina colada, orange, just to name a few. From these, you can have chocolate cake, coconut crush, and so forth. The list goes on and on. After deliberating over what I felt like 'eating', I decided upon a lemon cake shake. They poured the powder in the water, added stuff, blended, and voila! Had a yummy-looking shake ready for me, nearly overflowing the clear, plastic cup. It tasted.... OK. Like a lemon cake. Ice cream. With lots of sugar. And some weird product after taste. Did not wow me. (Because of this, I gave them another try another day and tried a different drink which was a little bit better.) I have tried three different drinks from The Wooden Straw and am still not blown away An another note --- the people who work there are very friendly and happy to see you. There is no issue with service whatsoever. There is always music playing, and I believe, WiFi available. There's a bar you can sit at to enjoy your drinks or a soft couch (near a little kid's play area) to sit and relax. I like what they did with the feel of the place. Do I absolutely love Wooden Straw? Nope. I don't really like the Herballife products. But will I be back? Yes. Sometimes. Because..... these shakes may not be the healthiest, but they're definitely better than a Big Mac. And I do like trying different drink flavors. Cheers. TIP: Check in on Facebook when you're there and you get 50 cents off your drink.
