One of my favorite places to stop and eat in Hatch,NM... in fact no roadtrip thru Hatch is complete without a stop here. This place celebrates it 50 year anniversary next year and its longevity it due to the delicious food, reasonable - almost unreasonably cheap in today's dining scene and good service. The green chile burrito is my favorite and my go to. Expect spice (it's chile)... and deliciousness. Some indoors and outdoor seating and a pick up window that is accessed from outside. The burritos were ok. Maybe my hopes were just too high considering the location. Red chile pulled pork burrito tasted as though the flavors were kind of just swimming together but never really coming together. The chile relleno burrito was missing the flavor from the green Chile. The cheese also might as well not even been there. The refried beans over powered the other elements in the burrito. Between that and the slight bitterness in the tortilla you couldn't really taste anything else. The after taste of the tortilla linger after finishing the burrito. To be clear, my review is in large part to the fact that there are many options in this area to get burritos. The ones I had weren't bad, but there are much better options in my opinion. Some of the absolute best burritos we've ever had and that is saying a lot since we were born and raised in Arizona and have spent a lot of time in New Mexico, and Mexico. My green chili shredded pork was outstanding, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. Plus, the amount of heat was just right. My husband's red chili was more mild and the flavor was also delicious. The sauce tasted like it was made with 20 ingredients, simmered and cooked for hours...just melt in your mouth. Also, it is obvious the tortillas are homemade, flaky, buttery and so yummy. We can't wait to head back for more! They have an extensive menu and a convenient window for ordering. Everyone working was so nice and answered all my questions. If you are in the mood for some quintessential Hatch green chilies at it's finest, head to this local family owned spot! I always look for fresh tortillas when visiting a burrito place. These were legit, so we're off to a great start. We decided on a breakfast burrito with potatoes and eggs, and a second with beans and potatoes. When she asked if we could "handle the heat," we had to go with the jalapeno salsa. C'mon, son. I think I just ate the last two burritos I will ever have. Why you ask? Well because these things were incredible. I admit back east the heritage of the burrito is not as strong, and I have only that by which to judge, but holy roll up, they were in another realm compared to what I'm used to. So to the window i went where I was kindly and might i say, enthusiastically greeted. I have to admit the red chili pork burrito was a thing of beauty. So flavorful and just leaving behind a warm tingling sensation as it tripped across the lips. If I was just rating off the food it would be a total win for the place. Unfortunately there is a 'but'. Isn't there just always? So this place does burritos and tacos. Look at the name of the business. It even has burritos in the name. And yet, they don't know how to properly make a burrito. My burro was made enchilada style. I didn't ask them to do it this way, it's just how it came. Just a ton of juicy red pork rolled up in a burrito with open ends, not folded. I mean who does that? It may seem like I am being picky but you can't call something a burrito if you can't hold it like one. If you pick it up completely level and everything still slides out of both sides, this doesn't exactly make it user friendly, as an actual burrito is. As their indoor dining room was closed I was eating it at a park table in front of the place, drawing judging glances from passerby's because I looked like a four year old who just had a fit with his Sgettios. I had to ask for a fork so I could actually eat my burro. This certainly falls under the 'You had one job' category of fails. When your only job is properly rolling a burrito and you still could meet expectations there isn't much lower the bar can be reset at. So yeah, it's a great tasting burro, but no, you won't be eating it in your car if you know what's best for your upholstery. I'd get another one but I will bring a ton of wet wipes and maybe a spoon the next time I swing by. read more

Indoor dining is currently suspended, but I was able to order at an exterior window and eat my Taco Plate - three beef tacos, rice and beans - on a bench in the shade.
