My girlfriend told me she was taking me out for a special evening and surprised me with a dinner at Azurea! Chic, hip, cool, and sophisticated describe this restaurant perfectly. We sat in the dining room, which is encased with large windows surrounding the dining area looking out to the beach. Gorgeous. The noise and lightning was low and intimate, the booth was comfy and inviting, and their wonderful staff worked so well together to take such excellent care of us! Thank you all! Afterwards we kicked off our shoes and headed down to the beach where we listened to the soothing sound of the crashing waves as the sun faded away beyond the horizon. Bliss. You know that expression just slap some paint on it and It'll be fine? That's kind of how I felt dining at Azurea. It could be great, if they just fixed a few things. Dined here as part of Jacksonville Magazines, the Secret Supper Club, and at first glance it was a beautiful venue with a gorgeous art-chic entrance, sweeping ocean views, and relaxing jewel tones. I attended this event with a couple of foodie friends and we all ordered some drinks while we waited for the meal to begin. This was a 4 course menu with the following served: First Course: An Ahi Tuna Tartare topped with a Raw Quail Egg and served deconstructed with mustard seeds, wasabi aioli, black salt, and okinawa Crisps. The presentation was flawless, but in regards to taste, I could've done without the raw quail. It was a tad bit too slimy for my liking. Everything else was really delicious and i was surprised that I actually enjoyed the wasabi aioli! This all was paired with a Japanese Plum Sour Whiskey which was the perfect drink choice and really ridiculously good! Second Course: Curried Prawns served on top of a gooseberry vinaigrette, the curry sauce, and rice noodles. Independently the vinaigrette and the curry sauce was very good, but there was just such a small tasting of it that ti was difficult to get a good bite with all the elements really complimenting each other. Any bite with just the prawns which were served dry was not the most pleasing. This was paired with Gustave Lorentz Gewurztraminer Reserve, Alsace, France which is a really fancy way of saying a drier white wine. Once again independtly the white wine was a bit too dry for my tastes, but paired with bites of the curried prawn and it really did compliment each other perfectly. Entree Course: Lamb Lollipops with whipped baby spinach, blistered heirloom tomatoes, and caramelized onion au jus. This was paired with Fess Parker Syrah. I was excited about this course more than any of the other simply because I love lamb, I grew up eating it home cooked quite often so it's always a treat to have it while dining out. I could not have been more sorely disappointed. Lamb has such a strong flavor and if not abiding by that flavor just right you ruin the whole dish, which is exactly what happened here. The taste was far too game-y and just too chewy. The Syrah it was paired with was far too strong for an already powerful meat and the vegetables were measly and kind of bland. Dessert Course: Coconut Shaved Ice served over dry ice for a really cool gastro gas effect. This was paired with an espresso vodka topped with coconut foam. The dessert itself was incredibly flavorful and delicious. The coconut flavoring didn't overpower the meal in either the shaved ice or the espresso vodka. The only downside was these coconut jellies which were unexpected and my least favorite consistency. All in all, I would come here again because I feel like the food could be better, but I'm just really picky and need to order what I would like off the menu. Mostly, I would come here again just for the Japanese Plum Sour. Don't hesitate, order this whiskey immediately. read more

My favorite spot in Atlantic Beach. The food is exceptional. My favorites are the Margarita flatbread and blueberry cheesecake. They have an amazing pastry chef. The specialty drinks are pricey but they will not disappoint! The bar is beautiful but if the weather is warm I prefer to sit outside on the comfy couches on the beach so I can feel the ocean breeze in my hair. They also have a brick firepit for when the temps dip down. If you are a cigar lover, they have a cooler with many to choose from. My goal is to stay the night in the hotel, One Ocean. Wow! Perfect experience. Executive chef Derek McKenna is to be complimented. What a refreshing experience in our own backyard. I am a picky eater and even pickier when I am paying for a higher end dining experience. Usually hotel eateries are blow off restaurants. A few things I dread about many nicer restaurants include lazy / clueless wait staff (many are hard to find once seated and / or don't know particulars of menu items or the portion size), small portions (hate when I pay near or over $100 and go away hungry), food not cooked to my specifications (more than half time in nicer places I will send over / under cooked items back), and general arrogance. I have learned to be very specific when ordering steak and / or eggs. I ordered a dish that included both. Perfection is what I got. The chef understood medium rare and over easy. My wife's shrimp dish was also perfectly prepared. Both items were fresh and sourced from top grade supplier(s). These 2 items were not the most expensive on the menu, nor did we order alcohol. Liveth, our waitress treated us with the same respect as all the customers (and got a well earned 30% tip). We asked to speak with the manager - Executive Chef Derek MCKenna came to the table. I complimented him on food perfection and the wait staff knowledge. Turns out that he serves all menu items to the wait staff every day as I understand. Mr. Derek MCKenna can hold his own against ANY chef and ANY high end restaurant manager any day of the week, and teach them a few things. To paraphrase Arnold: I'll be back! read more

Hoping to have dinner while watching a beautiful sunset, I was looking forward to my reservation at Azurea. As it turned out, it rained the entire day so there was no sun out to set. While that was disappointing, our meal certainly was not. The amuse bouche really started our meal off right, followed by the "award-winning" crab cake. It was full of crab meat and the "candied" collard greens underneath were delicious. And then they topped it with bacon...excellent! Along with the appetizer, I ate the asiago cheese, sourdough, and cinnamon raisin bread, which were all incredible! The toppings were delicious too - caramelized onions, oil and balsamic vinegar, pesto, and butter with herbs and sea salt. I had the coriander dusted sea bass with Maine lobster and mango-lime gastrique. Service was as delightful as the ambiance. Kicked off a relaxing weekend with Ryan and Danny at the bar and their great service and cocktail recommendations. Deciding we would stay for dinner, hostess Tia was adorable and super friendly and then our awesome waitress Anita too super great care of us! She even brought lemons and limes without having to ask! Who does that?!? The breads and accompaniments were perfect and that chutney!!! We decided on the sea bass w/ an amazing key lime sauce and the mixed grill, which was beyond perfect and probably one of the best seafood dishes I've had in the area. We took some key lime pie back to the room, but not before Anita brought us the most lovely little assortment of chocolates, which were all fantastic and a fun little Azurea spice pack. My husband and I had an early Valentine's Day dinner at Azurea on Saturday, February 11, 2023. The host seated us at a table near the front of the restaurant. The noise from the lounge was a bit loud, especially considering that we wanted a quiet, romantic dinner. The host kindly seated us at a table in the back of the restaurant; the noise level was considerably less. Anita was our server, and she was top-notch. She was pleasant, professional, and polite. She was quite knowledgeable about the menu and made some wonderful suggestions/recommendations. My husband and I both had the Caesar salad -- one of the most delicious albeit unusual Caesar salads we've ever eaten! It was crisp and delicious! We both ordered the beef tenderloin, and it was absolutely out of this world! Tender and flavorful. We opted for the creme brulee for dessert and it did not disappoint. It was fluffy and flavorful. We went to Azurea to celebrate a birthday and boy did we feast! Course after course of fresh, perfectly cooked, and expertly paired flavors, we enjoyed every second of our visit. I ordered the local catch cooked three ways: bronzed with buerre blanc, coriander dusted with fruit salpicón, and beignet battered with smoked tomato remoulade. Each was served over a bed of mashed potatoes. Also notable was the selection of charcuterie and the bread with all kinds of spreads and dips to accompany them. A spontaneous brunch date with limited time. It was rainy and cold out but warm and cozy as soon as we entered the lobby of the One Ocean Resort. It's just so beautiful inside. They just opened so there was no crowd. We ordered the pear and prosciutto flatbread as an appetizer. It had the right amount of sweet, tart, and salty, and it was thin and crispy. Sooo good! My friend ordered the steak frites and I went with the Azurea seafood Cobb salad. Her steak was cooked well and it had a delicious demi glace that covered the steak and fries. No ketchup needed for the fries. The calamari, scallops, and shrimp on my salad were cooked to perfection and went well with the pickled onions and fresh greens. The perfect brunch! Even with it being gloomy out, the view was still relaxing as well. We tried to order their espresso martinis but the bartender wasn't in yet, so maybe we will come a little later next time. The ambiance is decent you can't see the ocean from the restaurant but you can see outside. It does look like it needs to be updated but the walkway into the restaurant is pretty. I'll make this to the point. Service was slow and server was not privy to the details of the menu. The lobster Mac and cheese was bland and worst than craft Mac and cheese it had been sitting so it was hard but there was a heavy amount of lobster which was its only perk. The pear and arugula flatbread was bland as well but for a flatbread I'd give it a 2 out of 10. The pork chop was supposed to be dry rubbed in coffee but it didn't seem like it was dry rubbed in anything it had ZERO flavor and the mash potatoes under it were the equivalent of boxed mash potatoes. The plating was nice for all dishes. For the price I'm actually astounded at how terrible the food was. We will never eat here again and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Whoever is the chef has let this place go. Overall rating 1.5 out of 10. And this is RARE for us to rate so low. read more

I've been wanting to get more into the fine dining scene. I've been to a good number of restaurants and Azurea probably ranks somewhere in the middle. Ambience is all there for a hip/trendy romantic date spot. Service is good, but a little on the slow side. They have a hefty wine selection ranging from wines by the glass to small formats, regular 750mL bottles, and larger formats. They even have specials on bottles that are worth checking out. We ended up ordering a nice bottle of Chardonnay off their specials list. I don't recall the winery but we did enjoy it's tropical fruit notes and medium-bodied finish. We were first treated to an amuse-bouche. It was a delightful bite of a crawfish and chicken sausage etouffee. We then were served the bread basket which came with an assortment of breads, butter, oils, and salt. Keeping in line with the seafood, we ordered their Mezcal pickled shrimp. I think it was supposed to be a play on ceviche, however it had too much vinegar which made the shrimp too pickled and rubbery to enjoy. The onions overpowers the other delicate flavors. This was probably our least favorite dish of the night. For our entree, I ordered the beet-infused Arctic char with pappardelle and lobster sauce. The fish was cooked nicely and the lobster sauce really brought out the fresh seafood flavor. Unfortunately, it was a little too salty for my taste. My husband ordered their red snapper with gator and carried cauliflower. The snapper was flakey but this time it wasn't salted enough. The best part of his dish was the curried cauliflower which brought the right amount of heat. We didn't have enough room for dessert (thanks to us really enjoying the bread basket). Overall, an OK dining experience. There is definitely room for improvement with the food. But the wait staff was phenomenal and the ambiance was great. read more

I rarely go out for a fancy dinner, but this was one of the best experiences I had. The courses are made with care and I believe all of them are all locally made/grown (big plus here). The service is phenomenal because my waitress, Hannah was someone who tended to my needs when asked for. I'm grateful for her because there was a drink I got that I did not like and she recommended a drink that she thought I'd like instead and I loved the dragon berry rum cocktail that I had. I also really enjoyed my main course scallops! They were so tender and juicy filled with flavor that you just have to try it. I decided to celebrate my wife's birthday at this place and I have never been more disappointed in a business. We had reservations for 8 pm and the waitress did not even try to take our order until 8:40 pm. We watched as multiple tables were waited on even after we requested to order. Which we were met with the response "yeah I will go get your waitress." She proceeded to wait the other tables and made multiple rounds assisting them. I assume this is an age thing? My wife and I are young adults and noticed the older adults were the ones being assisted. Pretty view gorgeous atmosphere. I mean you really cannot knock it there. Nice but slow staff even on a slow brunch day. There were maybe 6 tables in the whole place. The brunch menu was nice and well rounded and the prices weren't bad for the amount of food you get but the potatoes were cold, the lobster omelet was chewy. Toast was good and the coffee, I normally drink black coffee, was bitter so I needed half a sugar packet to cut the bitterness. My friends all said their food was also "meh" for how gorgeous the space, location and reputation of the hotel. Certainly expected better quality for the price. BUT where they "pass" in brunch they excel in dinner! This place an awesome dinner. The food is perfectly cooked. The sizes are perfect and the staff is finally awake and eager to cater to your every whim. They don't hover but they're never more than a breath away. The glasses were never empty and the food was hot and tasted amazing. Nothing was chewy or fishy and the seasoning was amazing. What an experience. I'm visiting from Texas and came with a friend who said the view would be great and the food was good. The service was phenomenal and the food was amazing as well. Those of you who follow my posts know how I truly enjoy the complete dining experience. I previously thought I had reached those heights with other restaurants and don't get me wrong my reviews stand. However Azurea surpasses the benchmark on every level. From ambiance to maitre'd greeting to "Ray" to the view my wife and I settled in for what we thought would be an enjoyable evening. Every high(7/10) expectation we had was completely blown away by the entire experience. Impeccable caring service to gustatory treats that boggled and delighted the palate, this restaurant in a resort beautiful hotel far surpassed anything we could have hoped for. I won't delve deeply into the menu and it's combination of fresh proteins locally sourced to the many locally sourced veggies and greens I'll leave that to all of you to experience. The talent in the kitchen is equal to the professional earnest talent in the front of the house and throughout the dining room. Think finest NYC restaurant earnest and heartfelt service and combine it with flavor profiles that will leave you thinking and talking about for days and you have Azurea. Make reservations. This really is a 5/5 restaurant. I don't even know where to start. The restaurant itself and the hotel where you walk in is elaborately decorated. Once in the restaurant area it is located on the beach. There are all glad windows and beautiful booths to sit in that overlook the ocean. There is also outdoor seating to sit on the patio and be in the beach basically. The staff is SO polite and helpful. I have eaten here 3 times " regular dinners" and once a wine pairing dinner, both are amazing. Dinners in any night will have specials, small bites to cleanse your pallets between meals and are made by French chefs when I have been. It is all incredible. The service is too. The menu changes ( wine pairing and regular menu) for each season to have more seasonal tastes and veggies/ fruits. Plates are just about perfect for one person ( some of them being a little more rich so you could split) and sides being ordered separately from the main entree. I have had a scallop dish which was fabulous and my family one time ordered a filet which was HUGE And cooked to perfection. Deserts are incredible as well, I have had s dark chocolate truffle cake that was seriously divine. You are going to pay more here but if you're looking to really celebrate an event or persons his is SUCH a treat! read more

If you'd ask a group of people what they want for their anniversary some may say jewelry, others may say sports equipment. Me on the other hand, I enjoy gifts of food. I mean, isn't the way to one's heart through their stomach? This may not be the case for all, but for me this rings true. I think about food morning, noon, and night (and in my dreams, but sometimes they involve vegetables chasing after me, alas, I digress). So I was excited when my esposo (yes, and I'm doubly talented because I speak Spanish) said he was surprising me for our anniversary and taking me out to dinner. Driving up to Atlantic Beach, I secretly kept saying to myself "I hope we're going to Azurea in One Ocean, I hope we're going to Azurea in One Ocean." I'm assuming that we were going to Azurea because secretly my husband could hear me channeling him about bringing me to Azurea, but I'm about 99% positive that's not the case, considering he had a reservation. Oh well, no powers of telepathy here. Walking into One Ocean is like stepping into a different world. Okay, maybe I wouldn't go that far, but Toto (or Carla) doesn't feel like he's in Jacksonville anymore. You're transported to a posh, upscale, modern hotel. Walking to the restaurant you're surrounded by colors of the sea: deep and rich Mediterranean blues, seafoam greens, and sandy browns. Since we got to the restaurant early, we decided to have a drink at the bar. I ordered a lemon drop martini with sugared rim. My better half ordered a Captain and Coke. Both came out quickly. My lemon drop martini was sour and deliciously sweet. The views from the high-top table were lovely. You have a view of the sea oats rustling in the wind and the Atlantic Ocean. Azurea also has a lovely patio space available, equipped with couches and chairs. We were seated for dinner and quickly greeted by our server, Anita. I ordered an extra dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives for my second drink. The martini came out perfectly, and the blue cheese stuffed olives were divine. The menu is progressive, but also offers some reliable (safe) choices (for those of you who aren't too adventurous). We decided to start with the lobster gnocchi (sweet corn, Maine Lobster, double smoked bacon, and tarragon). While we were waiting for our appetizer, Anita brought out an amuse-bouche (small bite) of smoked salmon mousse. I'll be the first to say, I don't like salmon. To me it always tastes gamey, but after giving myself a pep talk, I'm glad I tried the amuse-bouche. It was delicious and I was disappointed when it literally was only one bite. Our gnocchi were delicious. The Maine Lobster tasted fresh and sweet and the gnocchi were delicate and delicious. Anita then brought out a bread plate, which had several different types of bread. All of which were quite delicious. She also brought out multiple spreads for the bread: tomato jam (sweet and surprising), salted Vermont butter (rich, just like butter should be), and sundried tomato spread. For dinner I ordered the Harris Ranch Natural Tenderloin, served with Yukon potato and Gouda flan and creamed silver queen corn. My husband opted for the Bone-In Strip, served with flat creek smokey blue cheese garnish du jour. We also ordered two sides: mousseline of Yukon gold potato and foraged mushrooms with fresh thyme butter. Our meals came out and they both looked great. Although we all know things can always look great, but taste awful. Luckily that wasn't the case. I bit into my tenderloin and it was rich and buttery. The sauce paired nicely with the meat. The creamed corn was sweet and creamy, which worked well with the rich potato and Gouda flan. My husband raved about his bone-in strip. After taking a tiny bite (okay, it wasn't tiny, it was more like a chunk) of the strip, it was rich and so tasty. Regarding the sides we ordered, I'd steer clear of the mousseline of Yukon gold potato. It was bland, it tasted like instant mashed potatoes. The foraged mushrooms with fresh thyme butter were delicious. They were rich, woody, and fragrant. For dessert I ordered the Tiramisu Bavarian (chocolate espresso bean and Myers rum mascarpone mousse). The texture of the dessert was silky and smooth. Each bite was better than the next. Pros: Ambiance, service (friendly and knowledgeable servers), menu variety, food (exquisite). Cons: Mousseline of Yukon gold potato. If you order this dish, make sure to BYOS (Bring Your Own Spices). Located inside One Ocean Resort on the water, we have had the pleasure of dining here several times for all meals. This restaurant combines the whole package including great cuisine, friendly, attentive and professional wait staff and an eclectic almost art-deco ambiance. Both the dining room and cocktail bar have views of the dunes and ocean. Breakfast views are spectacular, as this is the only restaurant with unobstructed views of the sunrise on Atlantic Beach. This is a five stars restaurant in the Yelp scoring system. My experience tells me that the only way one would score less than five stars is the price. Of course, is an expensive restaurant because is a very upscale restaurant. The menu changes with each season, representing the latest trends and the finest ingredients, I was told. Many of the items on the menu can't hardly be found at other restaurants. I had the opportunity to appreciate good bread with four different spreads; apple sauce, black garlic, vinaigrette, and butter. All very good. I did not know that there was such a thing as black garlic. Wikipedia says that "is a type of caramelized garlic first used over the course of several weeks, a process that results in black cloves". It was the best of the four spreads. I also had a nice Cesar salad, a squash soup (tasted like heaven), a beet salad, and the great Roasted Butternut Squash Tortellini. I did not order dessert, I was full, but I still was given something sweet to finish my dinner at no cost. The place was not too busy, and I enjoyed great food, excellent service in a great environment. Recommended when money is available. read more

Excellent service, food, and atmosphere! The steaks were all cooked perfectly and had incredible flavor. The service we received was top notch and extremely attentive and thorough. Azurea's wine selection is also great and the prices are even better. Definitely recommend Azurea to anyone looking for a nice dinner out. read more

We took my son and fiancée for dinner at Azurea last night. Our server, Anita, was fantastic. She was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. And the food was wonderfully too, especially the crab cakes! A few issues that will make us think twice about returning, however. The noise level is ridiculous. They need some plants or sound absorbing materials. It's impossible to have a conversation without almost shouting. And we were at a "quiet" table! They have a nice wine list, but did not have either choice we made, so we settled on a 3rd choice that was ok, just not the Caymus we really wanted. And lastly -we had ordered drinks at the bar, so paid that bill separately when our guests arrived. It was $46 for 2 cocktails!!! Are you kidding me?? read more

Amazing beach views, super mod decor, attentive service, remarkable ingredient combinations....Azurea was quite an experience both for the tastebuds and for the inviting ambience. We were seated in a cozy semi-private round booth that let us look out to the beach and blowing sea oats, which made us feel like we were on vacation, despite being just miles from home. Our agave margarita and cucumber and gin drink choices were delicious! (Azurea also has a fun, semi-swanky bar area that's fun to grab a drink if you're not eating.) Out waiter promptly brought out a quad of breads (ciabatta, lavash, museli and grain) with four dipping options: olive oil and balsamic, tomatoes, roasted garlic, and Vermont butter with sea salt. Yum! We started with an amuse bouche, compliments of the chef, and then ordered the roasted beet and Sweet Grass Dairy goat cheese salad (goat cheese mousse, baby arugula, walnut vinaigrette, yellow tomatoes) and cast-iron seared jumbo blue crab cake (apple cider braised collard greens, charred heirloom tomatoes, crisp smoked bacon). My seared diver scallops with green onion crepe, lump blue crab, house smoked bacon, hominy and asparagus spears were perfect. Nothing worse than overcooked scallops! Boyfriend ordered the fresh catch, done three ways. It was a black grouper grilled with 1. tropical fruit salpicone 2. bronzed with citrus butter emulsion and 3. beignet-battered with smoked vidalia onion remoulade (oh my goodness, so good!). We ordered a side of the double smoked bacon-braised collard greens and they were surprisingly sweet. Lastly, we shared a quad of desserts. My favorite was the basil cheesecake with compressed mango and white balsamic marinated strawberries and the tahitian vanilla creme brulee, and his were the blueberry tart with white chocolate shavings, and the crispy chocolate and peanut butter "candy bar." Azuea is fabulous as a special occasion destination or fancy date night. We truly enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to bring friends and family in to experience its allure! read more
