First experience at this location and seeing Dr. Amini, the retinal specialist. This was a difficut visit for me because I have a condition called Macular Dystrophy and I've experienced some vision issues. I was in meltdown leading up to the appointment and I have to say I loved Dr. Amini. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and concerned. I really liked my previous specialist, but after meeting Dr. Amini, I'm actually happy with the change. While most of the news was not necessarily good, he talked to me and actually educated me about some things, offered some suggestions that may help and made me aware of a genetic study that he was aware of and that he would see if I might be able to participate in and get free genetic testing. There was definitely more discussion about options than I had before and the delivery was really nice. The ONLY negative was I was there like THREE hours. It was 40 minutes before I was dilated, then over an hour before I was called back and another 15 minute wait to even see him. On the one hand, this is frustrating. On the other hand, I appreciate his thoroughness with his patients and I'm sure taking time to really get to know me and talk to me is why it takes so long as I could hear him with another patient before me and I'm guessing he spent time with them just like he did with me. Life is too short to be in a rush and I had nowhere to be anyway, but maybe they need to schedule less patients? I could see how some people might be angry with that experience. I'm just happy to have this new doctor and hope that he is able to help me get some answers and help me through this experience. read more

It started with Dr. Forrest Murphy who I first met at the Azul office in Beaumont California. I later found out that he just used that office. The first meeting went fine, cataract surgery was needed and scheduler would call and set up the surgery. No call after a month or two just to find out Dr. Murphy was no longer with Azul. Met with new doctor so he could schedule me for surgery. Same day I meet with Shannon who schedules surgery. Everything is set for surgery at Ontario surgical center. Five days before surgery I get a call saying my insurance doesn't cover that surgical canter. Office says Shannon does not work there anymore. Terrible service from Redlands office. read more

Respect the patients time!! Arrived here at 10:05 for my mom's 10:10am appointment and waited 1.5 hours to be seen by a student doctor. We were not informed this is a teaching facility nor were we asked for permission to be treated by a student. Then the Dr comes in and literally spends 2 min talking loudly and says "Oh we need to dilate" walks out and has us wait for another 30 minutes. The nurse comes in to dilate the eyes and has very long nails - almost poking her eye. To top it off the Dr is an optometrist not an Ophthalmologist - Complete waste of time. Against my better judgment I accepted a new appointment only to arrive and be treated like absolute shit by Dr. Chang, so much so that I walked out of the appointment because of his rudeness. I was referred to this office by my insurance. After vision tests and eye care, I had testing for new lenses. I am pleasantly surprised to have the best prescription in the past 8 yrs. Often at other facilities the prescription has been wrong and had to be corrected. This time it was perfect the first time. The eye-wear specialist helped me decide on frames. Ok, here it is 2 years later. I've developed a serious problem with my vision and called for an appointment. The dr that could see me the soonest was Dr. Luke. I was given an appointment this past March. Guess what? Dr Luke wasn't in that day. I only found out beforehand because I called that morning with a question. I brought my dad here which I was so skeptical because we didn't have the best experience somewhere else. However, Someone recommended this place so I brought my dad here to participate in the wet AMD study. My dad does not like stuff like this so he was nervous and I didn't know what to expect either. (So I was nervous and scared ) but after speaking with my coordinator Michelle I felt so much better. She was so knowledgeable and Brenda was very helpful as well. They were extremely nice to us and answered all my questions. Surgery Scheduler took 6 months to schedule surgery and 2 follow up appointments. She won't return phone calls until your insurance provider calls on your behalf. She scheduled me for 3 separate cities: Glendale/surgery, Riverside/follow up day 1 and Redlands/follow up 2 weeks post op. When you do get an appointment, incredibly long office wait times for appointments that they have previously scheduled. I'm waiting going on 90 minutes now. read more

After the initial visit, was advised by the optometrist to follow up with their colleague, the ophthalmologist, in 2 weeks. At the checkout desk, the receptionist said the ophthalmologist does not have any availability until 1 month out and that they would call me to schedule. After multiple calls to the clinic to have them verify my prescription in order to get it filled, a tech calls back to confirm that the medication was completed and that they see in my chart that I was to follow up in 2 weeks with an ophthalmologist. What do you know... the tech worked me into the schedule for that 2 week follow up. When I met the ophthalmologist, they had poor bedside manners, walked in to see me with no introduction of who they are, and was not familiar with my chart. They asked me what I was in for and started to review my chart in the exam room with me. I'm specific to this because I work in the healthcare industry and this is a very poor impression. The ophthalmologist was quick to examine me and did not advise me of anything nor ask if I had any questions. I had to interrupt them to ask of my inquiries before I left the visit. The second time I saw the ophthalmologist again, they were in a more positive attitude. Laughing and giggling and complaining about their EMR system. Again, no instruction or advice on any follow up until I asked. I will say that is the last time I'm going to that organization. Service in the office was pleasant and I appreciate the urgent work-in for the initial visit due to the severity of the pain I was experiencing, but trying to reach someone in the clinic by phone was an awful experience. You won't get to speak to a tech but the call center, where they submit a ticket to the tech and you won't hear back from them unless you call them again to follow up. read more

The office is run very inefficiently. I'm sure the staff are nice and kind and the office appeared clean and orderly. But the inefficiency of the cataract and surgical specialty part is very frustrating. There was little, if any communication from the surgery scheduler. It was very hard to reach her to get any information. They canceled my mom's surgery, after waiting over a year to get the appointment, without calling us. We happen to call, because her surgery was 10 days away, to find out if they had all of the medical clearance's ready to go and that's when they told us her surgery was canceled. So unprofessional. My mom is 87 and we did all of the things to get her cleared for surgery and now she's just canceled. My Redlands primary faxed them a referral a month ago and their administrative end lost and/or was unable to call my Dr to get the necessary information to make me an appointment, nor did they offer any solution other than for me to do their job and chase down the required referral/information for them a second time in order to proceed. I've been to both the Redlands and Rancho Cucamonga offices and must say, the level of professionalism from the entire staff in the Redlands office has been comforting for me as well as my father, who is the individual that matters, as he is the patient. I want to give Janet additional accolades as she has been a rock for our family during this process. My father suffered from Acute Glaucoma and has issues with both eyes. One eye has since had surgery, and we are looking forward to seeing the other one through as well. I will be leaving an additional yelp review at the end of this experience, but for now, I hope the fact I live in Rancho Cucamonga and have the next few appointments there doesn't reflect negatively on California eye, those are big shoes to fill, since the Redlands office has been so exceptional. read more

The facilities were clean and the staff are great. However, I am giving them one star because their prices are so incredibly high. They charge about 50% higher there than in another optometrist even after their "20% discount." If you want to save hundreds of dollars, go somewhere else and compare prices. read more

We have to give only 3 stars to the Redlands office. The doctors are great, our surgeon (cataract) and follow up doctor have been fantastic. But the wait in the office was excessive. 40 minutes to be put in an overly chilled room where we set for another 40 minutes. I understand about the dilation wait, it was the general feeling that the office over books and the patients suffer. The staff (with the exception of the surgical coordinator) appeared to be indifferent, no smiles, not welcoming. Eye drops including the dilation drops were administered sloppily, more on the eyelid and cheek then my eye! Dr. Luke, Dr. Leight and our surgical coordinator were wonderful. My father had an appointment a couple days ago and i have got to say this certain individual who was "helping" us her name was Marisol very unpleasant and very rude worker had nothing but attitude and horrible customer service any question we asked her she would respond very vague also when waiting for my father to be finishing being dilated she was consistently on her phone and just very demanding with her fellow coworkers while she sat down on her phone by her desk also saying very non pleasant jokes with her coworkers i had high hopes for this place but unfortunately she ruined mines and my fathers experience no longer will be returning nor will i be recommending this place to any one read more

Am very impressed with California Eye Specialists. I have been to three locations , Rancho Cucamonga , Pasadena and this is my first time to Redlands. There office is lovely and their staff is wonderful and very kind. The girls were very upbeat. And there chairs , oh my gosh, the most comfortable I have ever sat in , at a Doctors office. Office is so very clean and social distancing was closely followed. Everyone was wonderful and then to my surprise there was a bravo burger across the street. This review is for all 3 locations, this is not a reflection on the MDs who were 4 star level and one was at 5 star: A family member I was taking care of needed cataract removal for both eyes. The consultation took place in the beginning of April, where we were advised that due to backlog surgery will be scheduled within 6-8 weeks. August comes and still no appointment or phone call so I took it upon myself to contact the surgery scheduler who then placed the patient on the schedule for surgery the last week of August. After post op follow ups with the surgeon he advised us he will be leaving the company, he notified us of this change in September. He gave us the name of the provider who will do the other eye and got the appointment scheduled for consultation with that doctor. We came for that appointment in October, and that provider states they are not going to be doing the surgery that it will be another doctor. Frustrated we were fine with that as long as this change was not going to have the patient waiting an additional 8+ weeks after consultation due to the length of time from the first consultation to present. I was advised by the receptionist that I can call the surgery scheduler later that day and let her know the situation and she can place the patient on the schedule for a date after he meets the new surgeon. When I called I left 2 messages on the day of and the next day, I called the receptionist desk and spoke with another staff member and she is clueless to what I am talking about and says she will let the surgery scheduler know to call me back. I did not receive a call back for the 3rd day and had another family member call who then spoke with the manager who ensured us he will have his surgery scheduled as soon as possible. We arrived for the consultation with the new provider which was the 2nd week of November and was given a surgery date the day after Christmas which was fine. Before we left the office we confirmed the appointment date/location/and where the prescriptions will be called in at. 5 days before the surgery, the pharmacy did not receive an order from the office. I then called the doctor office and was ensured that it will be called in by the receptionist. I then called the pharmacy 1 hour later still no order. I called for a 2nd time and spoke with somebody else who placed me on hold for 16 minutes, I then hung up and called an alternate number and spoke to somebody else who gave me the surgery schedulers number. When speaking with her she stated that the patients surgery was not yet authorized which absolutely made no sense since there were no changes in his insurance, payments or primary care provider since March. I then advised her I will call the medical group office and clear it up, when speaking with that office I was told they never received anything until 4:23 PM that day and they did a patient referral search to ensure that was fact. I then called back to notify the scheduler and to make sure the prescription would be called in. Then I am notified at the last minute that there is a form for the patient to sign before surgery. When I was told it is almost 5pm on a Friday on a holiday weekend and I would have to pick the patient up who lives 23 miles away and then to the Riverside office which is an additional 21 miles. The office was closed for the weekend, Monday and of course Christmas(Tuesday). We had to make the trip early Wednesday morning which was okay, but I made a call to confirm if I needed to come to Riverside and I was told no I can come to their office in Redlands which is much closer from the patients residence. I was also given a number to call to receive the surgery time. When I called in, the staff did not have the patient on schedule. So now I am irate and called into the receptionist again who got information that the patient will be added to the schedule. The patient ultimately got the surgery so from April to December it took to receive 2 cataract surgeries. I have worked in the medical field for 15 years and 8 of which in customer service/scheduling. I have never seen such confusion, misinformation, lack of service from frontline staff. This was a complete nightmare and I have switched the patients insurance to the company I work for to ensure we never have to do business with these "specialist" again. read more
