Be sure to ask about ingredients. I am vegan and I'm used to picking apart menus to come up with a meal. I was delighted at first that there was a nice list under the vegetarian section on the menu. That was fleeting as I was very disturbed to find out from my server that the beans are cooked with lard and the rice is cooked in chicken stock and both items are listed under the "Vegetarian" section on the menu. The server told me he knows it's not vegetarian, but that his boss tells him it's going to stay on the menu like that. I'm so glad he told me the truth. My server was very helpful, though, and I ended up going with his recommendation of a veggie fajita. When he brought everything out, I was amazed by how much there was. A huge plate of veggies and a huge plate of avocado salad for me to top them with. It was delicious. The chips and salsa were excellent, too. The owner/manager needs to know that it's VERY important to list vegetarian items properly and there's no excuse for this. read more

The family went to Azul Tequila today and it was awesome. I got the Molcajete in the GIANT volcanic rock bowl. It was still sizzling 10 minutes after getting it. Very well seasoned and delicious. There was a Salsa Bar with 6 different types of Salsa, get all you want. Guac was incredible. The dining room was very clean and well decorated with a Tequila Bottle chandelier and interesting blue agave fountain in the middle of the restaurant. Waiter was very friendly and attentive and there was real silverware unlike what the previous poster put up. Best Mexican restaurant in the SW Michigan area. Has to be the worst Mexican meal of my life. Rice n beans were decent but the taco meat was simply browned ground beef with no seasoning, and the "burrito" was just a large enchilada- tortilla with chicken inside folded over, and no other fillings whatsoever. To make it worse they dumped enchilada sauce on top?! Weird. The margarita was awful too: bottom shelf tequila and what was obv pre mixed store brand margarita mix with antifreeze green color. A group of 6 of us went to Azul Tequila for the Tuesday special advertised in the January 2015 Blue Moon monthly publication. After being seated with our chips and salsa, I asked which $2.00 bottled beers are included in the Tuesday special. Our waitress advised us they were not doing that any more. I then asked about the 99 cent taco Tuesday special advertised in this months Blue Moon publication? Our waitress said they are not doing that any more. I asked to speak with the manager. The manager came over and said she was sorry but we are no longer honoring these advertised specials. Delicious! My mom and I ordered Nacho Grandes & a chicken taco. (Take out) it was ready in 10 minutes!! It came with free chips and salsa, a pretty generous amount. The nachos were amazing and pretty big, we loved them. The chips and salsa were very good also. I personally don't like shredded chicken so the taco wasn't a favorite. And it was pretty soggy (not their fault, just suggest don't get it to go). When we went to pick up our order the people there were very nice and the restaurant was nice too. The ambiance and location (just blocks from Silver Beach) were huge plusses, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. The restaurant is huge, but was nearly empty. Granted being 2:30 in the afternoon may have had something to do with that, but it is well located in a tourist heavy area. It was attractively decorated with the centerpiece being a giant chandelier made from blue lit tequila bottles (wink). The food was just not very good. I ordered the carnitas tacos. I asked to substitute chorizo for one as they were the same price. This was an upcharge, however, which was not mentioned, but $1, so no biggie. The additional unmentioned $1 upcharge for shredded cheese on said tacos, that one chapped me a bit. The tacos were plenty big and the flavor was pretty good, but the meat (both kinds) was burnt to a crisp. I make it a point not to send back overcooked taco meat as friends who are Mexican have told me this is often a method to extend the shelf life of meat that has begun to go south (no pun). I don't know if that was the case here. I also ordered rice and beans, which never came, but I was not charged. The dry, crispy pork didn't do any favors for my appetite, so I didn't bring it up. My wife didn't care for the shrimp tacos (usually her favorite). Finally, certain items just seemed overpriced compared to other Mexican restaurants, like $4 for horchata and $6 for a kids meal. Beer was very reasonably priced. This does not factor into my star rating, but I close by mentioning the fact that the name of the restaurant is grammatically incorrect. I am assuming that they named the restaurant after the wonderful arrangement of blue lit tequila bottles hanging in the main dining area. Should not the name, then, be Tequila Azul. C'mon guys, adjective second in Spanish . Two stars for the attractive restaurant, friendly (if a little lackadaisical) service, and, most of all, the giant frosty mug of Negra Modelo that I got for just $5. We came based on a recommendation from a valid source, so I may try "Tequila Blue" again during a busier hour on our next trip to St. Joe. If you can do without the ambiance and alcoholic beverages, my personal recommendation is to go to Arriba, connected to the Family Video off of Hilltop Road. Their food is world class. read more

OMG the Molcajete lava bowl is amazing!!!!! So much meat and tasty grilled veggies in a piping hot lava rock bowl! There is enough food for 2 people, so come hungry! Everything we have eaten here has been great! Try their horchata or one of their many specialty cocktail drinks or frozen margaritas. We waited almost 10 minutes and searched for the hostess before we were seated. Saturday evening at 5 pm and it was almost empty. These two things should have been our first red flags. We were seated, given chips and salsa by a bus boy. Kids are 3 and 1 and hungry. We wait. We wait some more. MULTIPLE waiters are sitting across the restaurant talking- they know we are there. I see two other waiters near the front of the restaurant talking and pointing to our table like they're arguing about who's going to serve us. We got up and left. 20+ minutes there and only the bus boy was working. Sad for them cause we are darn good tippers too! Found a cute little sandwich shop downtown St Joe instead. They're pretty great. Traditional Mexican food - big plates of lots of the same stuff. They make pretty weak margaritas but you can't go wrong with much on the menu, and they have daily specials, and a great lunch deals. They're pretty efficient too and attentive service. read more
