Luis helped me pick out stones and what tree would work best. D&G is extremely professional and offers all of the extra little technological touches (like email/text appointment reminders, clear quotes provided in a portal, follow up instructions on how to care for your new landscaping, etc.) that make your business transaction very smooth. We had Darwin give an estimate for some drainage pipes. We said we needed drainage baisins below the foundation along one side of the house to keep water from leaking into the house, and a drainage pipe snaking along another side of the house to remove water from our back patio. We showed Darwin the concrete that needed to be cut up, and the foundation that we needed drainage basins below. Darwin said he could do the job for $5000. After a day or two of work, our lawn was all dug up and the concrete was cur up, pipes were laid down, and Darwin said he needed more money. We went to inspect the work. The drainage basins were above the foundation and therefore not working to keep water out of the wall. Darwin said for him, it would be better to fill the weepholes in the brick wall with concrete. We told him not to do that because it will cause the wall to retain water. We wanted the drainage basins below the foundation like we had discussed. We came back a couple hours later and Darwin had filled our weepholes with concrete. We inspected more of the work. The pipes were not consistently sloped in the direction of the drainage. They just plopped in the pipes and didn't bother to level or slope them at all. There is standing water at the various low points of the "drainage" pipe which does not drain. Darwin said this is fine and kept asking for more money. We paid him $2500 because we felt bad for his guys, but we were clear we needed the job done correctly, the way we had originally discussed. Properly sloped drainage and basins below the foundation. We even said we would be willing to go over budget if Darwin would promise to do the work properly as originally discussed. Darwin refused to commit to doing the work properly so we fired him. We found another drainage specialist who confirmed that Darwin's work was shoddy and actually so bad that it makes our drainage worse everywhere he worked. I would have been happy to never hear from Darwin again and not post this review, but Darwin is now harassing and threatening my fiance trying to get $6500 out of us for this unfinished, worse-than-nothing job. "Pipe slope down" is literally the first thing to know about drainage, and Darwin doesn't know it.

After 2017, work has taken longer to complete despite small jobs. When focused, can do an excellent job but lately has been unable to fulfill to the quality expected. When discussing pricing for a job, he never gives a written contract. I have used many contractors in the past who show pricing for everything and how much labor they are charging. Lastly, his pricing is never transparent and changes on a whim. When negotiating a price with him, he can become very angry, belligerent, and will sometimes send offensive texts and voicemails with foul language if he is unhappy with your response. He could be an excellent worker if someone else handled the business side of it. Sad to see that someone with talent can be so difficult to work with.

This wasn't mentioned and caused delays. Be home during the install if possible--it's helpful to see how things are done and learn yard care tips. Ask for a brush-up service around 9-12 months after install. (Ours is still new, but we'll update once that happens.) Regret: We didn't upgrade to Cool Turf. It heats up just like the weather--something to consider if you live in a hot climate. Our Experience: We chose Big Tex Turf because they matched key items from another quote, had great reviews, and guaranteed completion before a big home event. We paid in full, so can't speak to financing. Our sales rep (Zach) started strong, but was hard to reach after booking. When weather delayed our install and left a large sand pile in the street (a safety and HOA issue), we couldn't get a hold of him--even the install team had trouble. I had to step in and offer a temporary tarp/cone solution myself. Tip: Texting a team member is more effective than calling. Calls go to the main office. Despite the sales rep gap, the installation team was excellent. They were efficient, professional, and finished the job in one day. Cleanup was great, and they came back as early as 7 AM to resolve post-install questions. 2-Year Follow-Up (as of 5/14/2025): Almost two years later, customer service remains solid. We've had a few normal turf issues and they've addressed every one quickly. The lawn still looks great--we're overall very happy. Final Thought: We recommend Big Tex Turf--just be proactive about communication and ask all your questions upfront. If you do that, you'll likely be very pleased with the results.

The following listed events occurred during the initial contract with Fort Bend Backyards and the owner. * We paid $1,860.00 down payment for the horrible unprofessional, unproductive, unfinished Landscape services! We are currently due a refund of $1,000.00 for work that was never started or completed. * Based on the invoice only debris removal, site preparation and some landscaping Bullrock ground preparation have been delivered and placed in the yard. * On Wednesday February 22, 2023, they showed up at 2pm without any notification. * Everyday there was always a total lack of communications to explain where the job team was and when and what services would be completed! * They left landscaping tools and supplies laying in the yard and unsecured. They have still not been picked-up the tools. * They showed up on Thursday February 23, 2023, to work after 10am without any type of notification. * Then on Thursday 23,2023,they left our job site at 4pm to respond to previous customers completed project. The explanation provided was their previous client was requesting additional services be completed! * They left a worker at the job site for 3 hours without any job duties, landscaping supplies or any instructions for working on the job. The worker sat in our lawn chair without conducting any job duties for 3 hours while on his phone, then the worker left the job site at 4pm. * The landscaping supplies for our job were not ordered and delivered to the company prior to starting the job on Wednesday February 22, 2023. * There were other job duties, irrigation repairs, grass sod and plenty of debris removal and site preparations that could have been conducted during the day even thought other supplies had not arrived to complete any progress on the job. * I have pictures of the uncompleted work in our back yard. * On Friday February 24, 2023, We were told the anticipated time of arrive for starting the job was delayed until 2pm based on supplies needed to make any progress on the job. As of 5:00pm we had not seen the company or received any form of customer communications. We texted and called the owner Mr. Crenshaw to obtain job status information. * Again, on Saturday February 25,2023 and Monday February 27, 2023, we attempted to contact the company and owner Mr. Crenshaw. * We have never received any type of response. The company again was a NO CALL NO SHOW to complete any work! * The company did not show up or communicate in any form with us! This company is totally unprofessional or productive with providing any positive Landscaping Services!!!!
