Find Brazil's at the west end of Chestnut, just before the highway. Ample street parking nearby but watch out for cobblestones which will shake loose any hardware on your car that had a doubt. Up the stairs and $7 door for Wednesday lessons. So much fun! Most importantly, don't close your thumbs on your partner. Keep it loose and light. Long garment rack with hangars for your heavy coat. It gets hot in here, so keep it layered. Nearby bar on the other side of the room keeps your spirits up. Water and paper towels station in the corner keeps you hydrated and not dripping sweat. Massive woofer boxes at the corners keep it thumping and energy high. You can't help but smile and enjoy! See you Wednesday!!

My understanding is that this is one of Philly's Latin dance hotspots. I've only been once, so I…read morewon't judge it too harshly, but I was pretty disappointed. Problematically for a dance club, the floor (at least upstairs, where the dancing was on this night) isn't level at all, sloping somewhat toward the street. Also, the bouncer was a little aggressive. In terms of the dancing itself, the level was quite low and there was a 2:1 leader-to-follower ratio (but again, that might not be the norm). I didn't stay long.

Wifey and I saw this place yesterday and decided to give them a try. We showed up about 5:40 and…read morewere seated right away. The hostess sat us in the bar area, which was fine, but seemed an odd choice. Our waitress came over for a drink order before I had even picked up the menu. My wife quickly ordered the Ginger Minty Paloma and I had an Old Fashioned. Wifey's drink was amazing and tasted like 14 more. Mine was just ok, but when you drink them fairly regularly there's not much you can do to make them 'different.' We decided to just split our food. We ordered a Wedge Salad - they put a balsamic glaze on it and it was REALLY GOOD. This came very quickly. We split The Rocco Pizza - vodka sauce, cheese and pieces of fried chicken cutlet. Unfortunately, this was a miss for us. The taste was fine, but neither of us liked the crust and wasn't hot enough. Didn't seem like your normal 'brick oven pizza.' We also split a 'small plate' of linguini and clams. This was just ok as well. The fresh clams were great, but the others were pretty chewy. The whole plate also needed salt. Service was pleasant and fairly quick, but the food was overall just ok. The place itself looked like it would be pretty fun if I was in my 20s. There was a band setting up and I bet the place gets pretty loud.

The food here was actually pretty good- fresh, flavorful, and came out as expected. I ordered the…read morelamb chops with grits and I will say - the grits were the best I've ever had. The crowd was mostly over 60 which is nice since no kids were there but I'm 45 and it wasn't as lively as I would have liked. The bands playing were good too but the atmosphere felt a little flat. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. Not my cup of tea for hanging out but I'd go back for dinner.

Three areas with their own music styles (live band/main room, sports bar and tecno/DJ) makes it trendy for all types. The perks continue with the absence of the Snookie types for the most part. You won't find guys tearing their shirts off or doing pushups on the dance floor here either, nor will you find guys measuring their manhood by the diameter of their biceps. It's just a bunch of young professionals out having a great time. Be prepared and come with cash. This is a cash only establishment until the IRS catches up with them. There's an ATM, but youll pay a nominal fee to use it.

If you haven't blacked out at The Osprey, have you even done the Jersey Shore right?…read more The Osprey in Manasquan is basically a rite of passage--a sweaty, glorious temple of dance floors, vodka sodas, and pure summertime chaos. It's like someone bottled the energy of a college tailgate, added a bunch of neon lights and live music, and dropped it a block from the beach. You walk in and boom: the Rock Room is serving up live bands like it's 2009, while the Boom Boom Room is just that--nonstop DJs spinning tracks that'll have you dancing like you didn't promise to "take it easy tonight." Drinks? Cheap enough to buy rounds like you're a baller. Vibes? Off the charts. You will lose your voice from screaming lyrics and your dignity somewhere around 1am. And honestly... Isn't that the goal. Fun Fact: Bruce Springsteen once drank here and wrote a song about it. So yeah, you're partying where The Boss once stood. No pressure. (Rumor has it, he had his first (legal) drink here) So, if you're looking for a quiet, sophisticated evening... go literally anywhere else. But if you're ready for an unfiltered, beautifully chaotic night to remember (or not), The Osprey is definitely the place to be.
