Waiting time is just terrible! It's a shame because Dr. Tan is so nice, but the waiting time is longer than the doctor's visit.

I have been a loyal patient at IMS in Avondale, AZ for 10+ years, so writing this is incredibly…read morepainful because I genuinely respect & appreciate Dr. Sumpter & his Medical Asst. What has forced me to speak out is not Dr. Sumpter himself, but the repeated lack of urgency, communication, & basic follow-through from the office staff &  management. For quite some time now, when in need of reaching out to Dr. Sumpter's office, I'm repeatedly met by the need of having to spend large portions of my day navigating long holds, dropped calls, & voicemails that to date have never been returned simply to obtain routine information such as lab or test results or simply schedule an appointment. On more than one occasion, important medical results were read to me by scheduling staff rather than a medical professional, leaving me confused, distressed, & without the guidance or help I desperately needed. Being told "everything is normal" while I clearly did not feel normal was devastating & left me without care or direction. My most recent experience has been the breaking point. I've recently developed rapidly worsening hearing loss -- a frightening & potentially life-altering condition, especially as a 55-year-old grandmother who wants to continue hearing my grandchildren's voices as they grow. After being seen & told a referral would be sent, days turned into more than a week with no action, no communication, & no urgency. My having to make repeated calls found only continued delays & confusion.  After requesting a return call today from office manager, Elizabeth before the end of the day, no call ever came. The office ultimately closed 1/2 hour earlier than the posted hours while I was still waiting for help. The emotional impact of feeling ignored during a possible medical emergency is profound. Patients trust medical offices with their health, their futures, &  in moments like this, their ability to live fully with the people they love. When urgency & compassion are absent, the damage is not just administrative -- it is deeply personal. It is heartbreaking to consider leaving Dr. Sumpter, a physician I have so fully trusted for almost a decade! Nor did the decision come easily!  But patient safety, timely care, &  basic dignity I feel must come first. I sincerely hope leadership takes a serious look at communication, accountability, & a sense of urgency within this office so that no other patient feels as unseen & helpless as I have. Not just during this frightening medical situation of decreased hearing loss, but as it has been a chronic issue culminating in today's events.

She stays current on medical advancements and changes in her field, and I am very confident in her competence. I also appreciate that Dr Gregorio listens and explains things clearly. She allows me to be a partner in my own health care, advising without chastising. Another thing I really love is that office staff actually answer the phone at Estrella Internal Medicine and Geriatrics - a rarity these days! Thank you, Dr Gregorio and your awesome team! Wow, people do not appreciate my doctor for the excellent physician she is. So since I was a…read moremedical office manager and a professional medical transcriptionist for more years than I care to think about. I know a good physician when I see one. So I am writing this review, as I find it hard to believe some of the negative remarks I have read in reviews of her office. So I want to put some things straight. I am retired. TYG (Thank you God.) I think I need to explain some things. Doctor Gregorio is an Internist who specializes in medicine for the aged. That is what Geriatrics means. Not every physician specializes in medicine for the aged. I am 69 years old. I know old when I see it. I don't want to see a pediatrician. Although, kids and old folks have different requirements than your run of the mill adult, and react differently to medication. There are a few medications that I took for years and can no longer take because of the changes in my body, and my body's chemistry. Dr. Gregorio is more likely to know all of that kind of stuff and takes really good care of me. Plus, I have a complex medical history and I have some complex medical issues, most seniors do. To give you an example, I live in a senior community and I listen to people talk about their medical problems and how long it takes for them to get an appointment with their doctors. The average is 4 to 6 weeks. Guess how long it takes me to see my doctor, as long as it is Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 5:00 pm, and I have a problem, I get in my car and go to her office. She told me she is my ER between those hours. If it is after 6:00pm or Saturday or Sunday, to go to the ER, they will get a hold of her. I feel that this is a workable solution to all of my medical issues. She also has referred me to some excellent physicians in other specialist fields. I have several. They actually seem to talk to each other which also makes me very happy, medically speaking. There is something else she does, she teaches medical assistants and nurses, yes she does. Good physicians are not "Doc in the Boxes," and as far as answering medical questions she prefers face to face not on the phone where things can be misconstrued or misunderstood. I happen to agree with her. So, if her phone is busy or they don't answer on the second ring, she takes walk-ins if you are already her patient. What that means to you folks who haven't seen her yet is you have to make an appointment for your first visits, you might even have to go in twice for that first visit because she will probably be wanting some blood work and other fun things like that so she can get a base line on your medical needs and she will want to talk to you about it. So, if the office cannot answer your call on the second ring stay on the line they will get to you, and if you want my opinion, and even if you don't, you should wait until they get to you on the phone. I sleep better at night because she is my doctor. You would sleep better at night too if she were your doctor. Last and not least of the things I read, "She should get off of her lap top." Sorry I had to laugh at that. She will never be able to do that. You no longer have a paper chart folks, your medical records are now in that big computer in the sky. Why you may ask? Thank your government for that. It is now all EHR that stands for Electronic Health Records, she is writing her notes about your office visit, she does a good job of it, some are still struggling with that. There are some advantages and disadvantages to EHR. Remember hurricane Katrina, New Orleans was under water, and all of the medical records were destroyed due to flooding, all those medical records are gone. EHR go to a server that may or may not even be in the same state as you and your doctor. So don't worry about her and her lap top. She is entering her notes while it is fresh in her mind, just like she used to write in your chart, as a matter of fact she is typing in your chart. I just thought I would explain that.
