Service was interesting/questionable because we were approached by two different servers for drink orders within a few minutes. Secondly, we asked what was in/on the side for some items and the server had no idea and didn't offer to go ask the kitchen. Third, why have horchata on the menu if you don't serve it... Or at least tell the table things you are out of when you first greet them so they can review the menu and make quicker decisions. 2nd visit to Ay Mi Madre and I hate to say it... my first experience cleared this one by a mile. This was a Cinco de Mayo run with friends, so the company was 10/10, but the rest? Service was definitely underwhelming this round, and honestly the food didn't hold up either. I'm a Birria girl through and through and I played it safe with what what I know. The birria tacos came a bit OVERstuffed for me and they fell apart immediately, and there was zero real flavor. My margarita was giving straight strawberry syrup with a splash of "hope." Wait time for initial service was 30+ minutes, and we were told they were short-staffed. Our server was on day 2, so no shade to him at all -- that was a management/setup issue. It just felt like no one was really helping control the chaos or wait times. After eating, we still waited another 30 minutes just to get our checks. Not to mention, there was an extra margarita on my tab that I didn't order. Between the noise level and language barriers, I ended up using a translator app just to clear it up... which honestly is my sign to start my Spanish lessons ASAP. Popped in here for a quick late lunch with the bestie and was pleasantly surprised! I loved the decor and ambiance of this place! The mural was giving Wynwood/Miami vibes and I love a reminder of home! We split the Birria Pizza which was definitely enough for two. It was delicious and cheesy and so well seasoned! We also got the guacamole which sadly was lacking salt but once we tracked down a salt shaker on another table it was delicious! The chips were also fab! Recently stumbled upon this restaurant while shopping in the area. I'll start by saying that the location itself is a bit obscure and off the beaten path. Improved signage would help but it is a hard location for foot traffic. Now once in the location itself a different story. The service was great, and staff were eager to assist and provide offerings. The Monday specials of $5 margaritas and $10 fajitas were well worth the price point with large portions and good flavors. The marg was not lacking in punch either. While the regular menu items are priced a bit high the flavor was there. I will go back a couple of times and explore the offerings. When warm I know the patio will be a great vibe. read more

I came here to try the mofongo. I fell in love with it when I went if Puerto Rico and was glad that I could find it locally. The restaurant is large and open. I could see it being good for groups. The decorations are cute and trendy. I did not like that the mofongo included pork and that was not advertised on the menu. I didn't finish my food. This was my first time trying this place, and unfortunately it will probably be my last. The food was extremely salty, I brought it up to the manager, hoping they would fix the issue or at least remove the dish from the bill. The server felt so bad because the manager refused to take it off the bill. She ended up paying the dish herself. Not to mention the manger didn't even apologize for what had happened... If something is clearly not right with the food, it shouldn't be that difficult to resolve. The server should also not be responsible for the cook's mistakes. New restaurant in greensboro, The ambiance is 5 star , My food was kinda bland, the sauce needed more seasoning for me , If you have a taste for Dominican / Columbia fusion food. Tucked in the Highwoods shopping area off New Garden Rd is the Latin Fusion restaurant Ay Mi Madre. Upon walking into the establishment, the decor is really modern, clean and nice! There was a bar area off to the left. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outdoors. It was really hot so we chose inside. Our waitress was incredibly nice. She recommended their special cocktails and drinks, but we will have to try them in our next visit. I did spot a few cocktails from other patrons around the restaurant and they looked really good! They have wonderful eclectic menu options. You ever see a menu that you would like to try one of everything? They have that here. I had a hard time deciding because everything looked good. It was lunch time, so I tried their shrimp street tacos. Absolutely the best street tacos I've had in a while. The shrimp were seasoned beautifully. The toppings were fresh and the sauce was just the right touch. I ordered a side of fries and requested ketchup. The waitress said they had ketchup, but recommended their special sauces. Oh my gosh...just give me the whole bottle of each sauce. Great recommendation. Gosh those sauces were good. My friend got shrimp fajitas. They were plated so well. What a delightful surprise. Latin fusion is truly diverse, from sushi and teriyaki bowls to a wide variety of mofongos from Puerto Rico and street tacos, ceviche from Peru and penne from Italy. Seafood to burgers, chicarrones to tomahawk steaks. What a variety! We blew in after picking up a friend from Bogotá at the airport and we had a ball. We were anxious, due to others' bad experiences in the reviews. I had the pulpo mofongo, and it was perfect. Each mouthful was a savory delight. I had a great dinner with friends last night at Ay Mi Madre. I grew up in Miami, Florida, and I am always in search of authentic Latin food in the triad. I am happy to report that Ay Mi Madre definitely hit the spot! I loved the look of the space, and the vibe totally made me feel like I was back in Miami, including the Latin music. They had a lot of fun cocktails, and I would say my only complaint was that drink service was a bit slow - but our servers were super friendly and that made up for it. I had the Mofongo de Camarones which is a traditional dish of mashed fried plantains and I chose to have it with shrimp and a cream sauce. It was absolutely delicious! My girlfriend had it with steak and hers was amazing as well. A couple of girlfriends had various kinds of tacos, as well as rice bowls, and they all loved their food. We were celebrating three birthdays, and the staff came out dancing and waving sparkly lights around and played Go Shawty, It's Your Birthday and we got up and danced with them. It was a super fun evening and I cannot wait to go back and try other dishes... particularly their Latin fusion sushi! let me start by saying , the only reason why I went there is because my son called me and informed me that he found a restaurant that sells Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisines. he knows that I have been searching for an authentic Puerto Rican or Dominican restaurant that sells wonderful food. upon arrival, they were very nice very hospitable, but I wasn't really hungry so I ordered three chicken empanadas. While I was waiting I asked the young lady that took my order for a cup of ice water. she then said sure and walked away, at this time I'm thinking she's going to get me some ice water. 10 minutes went by then 12 minutes , 15 minutes still no water. 17 minutes hear comes my order. I then asked for ice water again she said sure and walked away. At this point I'm annoyed. I asked for ice water three times, still no water so I left. for the price that I paid for the empanadas $16 for three small empanadas it was not worth it lack of seasoning lack of taste and very dry. We have been meaning to check out Ay Mi Madre for a while, yesterday we finally stopped in for lunch. We both ordered from the lunch menu, we tried the enchiladas verdes and the flautas verdes. Both were delicious and the portions were generous. (Unlike some restaurants where lunch portions tend to be small). Likewise, our order of guacamole was excellent and was a generous amount. We have now eaten at Aye Mi Madre twice and both times have been great! The food is delicious and tastes fresh. I love the variety and have tried many dishes, all very good. The arepitas appetizer is my favorite of the many great dishes. We even tried the sushi and loved it. A great fusion restaurant. And the staff has been attentive and made this a great experience. IF I could leave no stars I would have. Aweful location as you have to walk 100yrds or so to the door and parking is minimal from the other businesses. The music is WAY too loud, and the service is just bad. They don't know what they are doing or don't care. All the food at our table was dry and tasteless and really over priced. The food was just okay. I had mofongo in Puerto Rico and for the price I was expecting it to be just as good as that. It had a slice of what appeared to be processed cheese food on top that wasn't even melted. A glass of wine was $13 (but the price was not on the menu)!!! I opted for a cocktail for only $1 more dollar. What place prices like that?! The service was slow. The servers don't speak english very good so it was difficult to ask questions about the menu. We really wanted to like it here. Based purely on the food itself, it's a solid 4 stars, maybe 5. However, I don't expect they'll be in business for too long. We arrived around 530pm on a Thursday for dinner and were the only customers. 1 other person was seated just before we left. Our server was very pleasant. The prices are higher than what you typically see in a similar LATAM restaurant, but we knew that beforehand and expected the quality to align. We ordered the Quesabirria Tacos and Shrimp Street Tacos for ourselves. We ordered a side for the little guy (I think fries?). They let us know a little later they were out of that so we ordered beans. The food was all very good...one of the best quesabirria I've had, the shrimp tacos were on point and even the beans (which came w/ rice) were top notch. Then came time to pay. They said they tried several times but my card would not work. Ok, sometimes things happen, so I gave them another card. That one worked. In the meantime, I checked the initial card online and it showed to have been charged 5 times. I showed this to them and they said they didn't complete the transaction and it would come off in a bit. It didn't. The following Monday, all 5 transactions cleared. And, to top it off, they charge my 2nd card two times and both had cleared. I called that evening and explained the situation to someone who then put me on the phone with Alejandro ( I believe was his name). He said that they could not speak w/ their POS provider at that time & that they were closed on Tuesdays and for me to call back btwn 4-5pm on Wednesday and he'd have it taken care of. No apologies, explanation about how this happened, etc. The explanation (and lack thereof) didn't sit well with me but I figured I'd see it through. On Wednesday, I called no fewer than 15 times between 4-5pm. Guess what? No answer. Went to voicemail that "had not been set up" so no message could be left. At this point, I was through. I called both credit card companies, explained the situation and disputed all charges except the one that included our tip on the second card. Net-net: We were charged $460 for what we paid $74 for. Despite me pointing it out to begin with. No apology. No explanation. No follow up. The food is very good. But not "$460 for 2 adults and a baby" good. And not "spend several hours trying to recoup our money" good. We won't be back and, as much as I hate to say it, doubt there will be anywhere to "go back to" for long. read more
