Really wanted to like this place. Walked in on National Margarita Day, hoping for a win. Two Servers, with eqch one taking turns at the bar. Ordered two house Margaritas, and the entire drink was poured from a jug/container of pre-made mix. No shots, no shaking, just something I could have done at home. The drink tasted very weak and mix wasn't all that good. Offered chips and salsa (not really salsa but some type of sauce with a hot flavor). Due to the pleasant weather, we chose outside dining. The hostess and waitstaff were pleasantly accommodating. We ordered chips that were freshly made and by the time they were done, our main course arrived. Everything was prepared well. In the interim, music was coming from down the street. At such point, the waitress told us that a band performed there every evening. What a bonus! Of course, after thoroughly enjoying our meal, we strolled down the street and listened to the free tunes. We had golfed til dark and looked for a place to grab a bite. We walked in at 8:45, thinking they had stopped serving at 8:30 but they were so gracious and nice and Sat us right away. Margaritas were awesome and we ordered tacos, a quesadilla and a shrimp dish with onions and mushrooms which was great. The staff was wonderful. Couldn't have been treated any better. read more

Walking in, you quickly realize that the interior could use some serious updating (ripped booths, outdated decor, a lot of dust, etc.) and it becomes even more obvious when it's a long wait to get seated in a relatively empty restaurant... Once we finally got seated, we were greeted with a warm, friendly server! They answered every question I had and provided some great recommendations. We started with chips and salsa, which were a huge disappointment. It's hard to mess those up, but they did! The salsa was basically water and wouldn't stay on the chips, which were bland and very rough/rubbery. I ending up ordering the Coronarita, which was HUGE, along with a combination platter that had an enchilada, burrito, and chalupa. The enchilada and burrito were very delicious, but the chalupa was "meh" at best. The rice that came with it was dry and slightly tough, but the beans were really tasty! read more

Really fun environment, but do expect a little bit of a wait for your food. We got there early for dinner (about 4:30pm), and got seated right away. But, after ordering our food, it took about an hour to get it-- we started eating about 5:50-6. Of course, all the food was delicious. I got the combo with enchilada, chalupa, and a tamale. House margs were delicious but high in sugar. In the future, I would order the wine! I saw several people with wine and they were very heavy pours. read more

Excellent food! We ordered fajita burrito, chimichanga, enchilada, tamale, and the Jalisco burrito. Everything was delicious and spicy. The salsa that came with the chips was too cold, but really tasty! Although the restaurant is getting a bit rundown, the bathrooms were spotless and the food was delicious. Twice in one week and it's got promise. Sure the place is run down a bit, but with crazy high rent, food costs and labor what do you expect. Service is lovely. Pricing is fair First visit I had the carnitas. First time in a burrito, that was folded like a enchilada and covered in a sticky, floury cheese? sauce. But the carnitas showed promise. I read a number of the reviews while we were waiting for service, and I was a little disappointed: seems like many people were not very happy with this Restaurant. Luckily, our experience was entirely different, and much better, I really enjoyed this visit. I ordered the Chile Relleno platter, and it came with a nice batter dip, deep-fried, and the interior of the poblano pepper was nicely filled with queso Blanco. My wife had the fajita platter, and the meat and vegetables were nicely seared, and both of our platters had delicious beans and rice as an accompaniment. My wife's plate had guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. We each had a margarita, and each of us thought it was good. The restaurant was relatively quiet, well attended at lunchtime, and I thought that our waiter was quite pleasant. All in all, I look forward to returning to this restaurant, once we move down to the villages. read more

I've always loved the food here and sitting outside, but I've been dismayed that dogs are allowed on the patio. They do not belong at a restaurant, I understand emotional support, but not the family dog. I don't think we'll be going back anymore. read more

It had been a while since I've been to this restaurant . Reason being, there are several other Mexican restaurants with better food and atmosphere. In the past I did like the food but my husband did not. I finally convinced him to give it a try as it had been a while . While the service was good, the food was marginal. Not bad but not great. The topper this visit is that they are now charging a surcharge for credit cards. We expect this at times as some restaurants do this in the area BUT..... 1) they did not use to 2) it is NOT noted on the front door 3) nor is it noted on the menu. It was a surprise to us that we were going to be charged the fee. Our bill was over $100.00 and I do not carry around that kind of cash so we had no choice but to pay with a card. The surcharge percentage is 4%. Since this was not disclosed and, the food was not great plus there are other local restaurants which serve better food with no fee, we will not return. Margarita and queso were both good, but that was about it. My aunt and I ordered the chicken and crab enchiladas and the sauce was so watery it had zero flavor. When we told our server our food was not to our satisfaction he did nothing to remedy the situation. Don't waste your money here. read more

Lots of energy in this little Mexican restaurant. As a matter fact when we were there, there was a large group playing trivial pursuit. I started out with a jumbo margarita, which was excellent, and my husband had the typical corona. I had the avocado salad with chicken and my husband had enchiladas and both entrées were very good. My review 9 years ago talked about how unfriendly they were to dogs on the patio. That is still the case all these years later. Go to Gator's or Augustine's on the same Square if you want to sit with your dog. The drinks are good at Ay Jalisco and the food your typical Mexican fare. What they have going for them is the patio only one block from the music. Other than having a nice outdoor area, I'd direct you to most anywhere else if you want Mexican food - even Chili's is better than this place. read more

The best thing about this place is the location -- certainly not the food. Both burrito bowls we ordered had about an inch of water at the bottom -- I guess they don't drain the lettuce or pico de gallo? It was gross getting to the bottom of a soggy rice bowl. When I pointed out the water at the bottom of the bowl to our waitress, she didn't seem to care. We also ordered "guacamole dip" which had almost no flavor. 2 stars simply because of the lack of service! We were attending the arts and crafts fair that was at the Villages this past weekend when we stumbled across this place. We saw Mexican food and set our eyes on this being the place we wanted to dine! We arrived around 1PM and they were pretty busy given the crowd at the fair. We were a party of 7 and they were only able to seat us at 2 different tables. The table my daughter, hubs and myself sat at was a corner high top that was sort of cramped but hey, we were seated and I was starving...so at this point, I'd take anything. We were probably seated a good 15-minutes before anyone came over to even ask for our drink order. We literally scarfed down the chips and salsa in that time and never did the waitress ask if we wanted a refill. She took our drink order and our food order at that point give we had so much time to review the menu. I ordered the fajita quesadilla, my daughter ordered a cheese quesadilla with onions and tomatoes and hubs got asada poblano. My fajita quesadilla was actually ok, good flavor and warm. My hubs food was pretty tasty except for the refried beans which were rather bland. My daughter's quesadilla has onions that were not even cooked and chomping into the quesadilla made me cry they were so strong. I had to end up switching with her so that she could eat. I am just in awe that you wouldn't cook the onions prior to adding to the food. And don't think about telling the waitress because she was literally nowhere to be found. Service was absolutely terrible. Not sure if they were not used to that much volume on the weekend or if they were simply understaffed. The food, however didn't set it apart from any place where I'd make the drive to ever return. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Full bar. read more

This is just pretty average American-style "Mexican" food. Last time we went my wife said she'd just as soon pickup Taco Bell and let me make her AWESOME margaritas at home. I ordered the fish tacos and umm..... don't order those. They smelled fishy and were dry. As a rule, seafood should smell like the sea or whatever herbs and spices it was cooked in. The beef tacos also left something to b desired as well. The chips, salsa, and mango margarita were awesome. The margarita is really strong but delicious. My friend got flour flatas which she liked and were good. The guacamole was tasty and fresh and the food was definitely hot (as in temperature). Being new permanent residents of The Villages, we wanted to try some different restaurants and Ay Jalisco was one we noticed. In all fairness, we experienced it during the ramp up from COVID-19 so maybe it is not always this poor of an experience, but maybe it is and for that, we won't tempt fate a second time. There was somewhere around eight tables currently seated when we arrived. By all appearances it seems as though there was one server, one person delivering chips and salsa, and one bartender; by deduction one or two cooks. However, when we walked in we waited a long time without even being greeted. We saw the staff and the staff saw us but no acknowledgement. Finally, the bar tender came over and seated us, he ended up being our server throughout. As others have noted, it seemed like pulling teeth to get any service or refill on drinks. Although a majority of folks were seated outside, it was as if they had forgotten there was a patio that needed to be tended to. As our server buzzed by he saw my partner needed a soda refill and was on his way. I had to holler over to say I'd take a second beer. The wait for the food was pretty prolonged but when it did come out, it was probably the most flavor-less blah we've had in a long time. We both ordered the Supremo Burrito. I had the ground beef and my partner had chicken. The server came by once again after taking our order and asked if we both had chicken, we corrected him. Then, when he delivered it he got them mixed up again - gave my partner the beef and me the chicken. It really isn't hard especially when there are so few tables and it is a pet peeve when servers try to remember orders (and don't do a very good job) rather than writing them down. I've done the job myself so this isn't conjecture. So overall, not a very favorable experience. We have friends and family coming down this summer and we will be skipping AJs. read more

I see why they were not busy now even though this is in a prime location in The Villages and it was a Saturday at lunch time... on too of the slow service, the food is just not good. The salsa was awful! I ordered pork street tacos. They were bland and after the second bite I got a fishy taste. Don't get me wrong, I love fish, but not on my PORK tacos! Yuck! I couldn't eat them. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is that the margaritas were decent and fairly priced. I honestly can't say I would go back. If you're looking for a great Mexican restaurant, go to Las Magueyes in Belleview. It's the best around, great food, amazing service, and very authentic! read more

Girls lunch with my daughter and mother. Welcoming at the door. Sat in the bar/lounge booth. Server was the bartender. The salsa was very good. Mother ordered pork tacos with double beans, sh did she'll order again. Daughter had just a plain chicken and cheese quesadilla, the serving was huge! But very good. SHe says she'll order something different next time. I had the chipotle shrimp tacos. Very good! Poured leftover salsa over my 3 tacos and the flavor came out! Will order again.
