Great place for care and accountability My older brother recently spent thirty days here and we are grateful for the experience he had. He came in wounded and wobbly, just out of the hospital after having dealt with alcohol poisoning, and left on steady feet with many resources to rely on. Brett, Doug, and Patrick took care of my brother and remain people he can call upon for help. Each of these individuals have developed close connections to him and taught him life long skills in dealing with struggle. We also received support from these individuals when we called and asked for help with our next steps with Dave. The other patients were sources of support to my brother and it really felt like a family there with lots of times for reflection. The twelve step method is used here and very helpful for building a reservoir of strength beyond the facility. Before I went to Axis I was a very isolated, hurt, addicted woman. I was prescribed 12 different perscriptions including Xanex for 2.5 years. I thought I would never be normal again. I thought there was no way I could stop taking it and at the same time I thought I would never be happy again. There was no way...I was full of regret, dispair, suicidal thoughts and anxiety. When I arrived to I was welcomed with open arms from a woman named Tiffany. She brought me coffee and a wonderful turkey and avacodo sandwich. After flying from CT alone, I was exhausted and she was very understanding and compassionate. I was so scared I was trembling, but Tiffany's hand rubbing my back reassured me that I would be okay. She made me feel safe. I was brought on a tour and met my roommates, I had no idea that soon these wonderful people would become my dearest friends. They were all well by the time I arrived, and I wanted what they had... I knew this would be the start of my new journey. The house was amazing. Clean, open, the back of the home is all glass. There are fruit trees, palm trees, benches to sit on outside, beautiful patio furniture, and a huge Inground pool and hot tub. There are two chefs Bill and Betty. Both cook your meals to perfection. They prepare meals that you would only be served at a 5 star restaurant. Bill and Betty are not only employees, but are amazing people to talk and laugh with. Their love and passion for food is something well admired. I was privileged to be served by both. I must not lie, detoxing from Xanex was not a field trip. The first 4 days I could care a less about what was being served or what the patio furniture looked like. My roommates and the staff were there to give me comfort all day, every day. In my detox stage I was was close to my nurse Paul, who was a kind, soft spoken man. He did everything he could to help me physically get through the withdrawals, and he was very knowledgable on all of my questions. As time went on, I actually started to feel better. Everyday I went to groups on time and shared my experiences with the councilors and my roommates, and they shared their stories. What a group of amazing people. Some days we had yoga or meditation with "Mediation Mark" who is a God send for those days where you cannot concentrate or relax. I never thought I could concentrate enough to mediate, and now it's one of my favorite things to do. Mark is a wonderful soul, a kind hearted man whom has traveled the world to learn inner peace. His teachings and talents that he brings to Axis are a privilege to be a part of. Meditating with Mark is something that I miss dearly now that I am home. After I detoxed I was taken out of the house every day. Whether it would be going to the movies, shopping, sight seeing or just a talk over coffee. And this is where my favorite councilors come in. Megan is a strong, intelligent, beautiful person. From day one she takes the time out and makes it a point to sit with each roommate and asks simple questions about how they are feeling, how their day is going, etc. Sometimes she takes out over an hour of her time to speak to us one on one. I had trouble opening up to a complete stranger, but after awhile I trusted her. The conversations I had with her were confidential and I finally learned to trust another human being. Something I haven't done in years. I know I can call Axis when Megan is working. She listens to my feelings and concerns and still guides me even though I'm no longer living in the home. Johnny always comes in to Axis ready to go! His loud excited voice gets you going! He makes sure to ask everyone how they are feeling and he also goes out of way to get to know each of us on a one on one level. He always wants to take us out, so we can grow to be better in social gatherings, Something else I had trouble with. Going to the movies with him was always my favorite because just for a short while I would feel "normal" again. Just a bunch of friends going to the movies. His personal story is one to remember always. Somewhere I know he is proud of me, But I want him to know... I am also very proud of him. To conclude, I am better now. I no longer take any pills for anything. I eat, sleep, and go out of the house happy. I am a good mother, wife, and friend again. I can watch tv with my family and laugh, I can read my daughter a story and tickle her goodnight. My anxiety is now gone and so is my insomnia. Go to Axis if you need help. I promise that if you listen to what they say, surrender to your addiction at the door and be patient. You too will get your life back, but this time you won't be a prisoner of your addiction. What a great place for recovery. I was there for 45 days. When i came to Axis i had all i could do to tie my shoe's i was shaking so much. Because of the Wonderful staff (all recovering alcoholics) Doug,Patrick,Brett, Rhea,Brittny,Dr Ray,Mat,Mark everyone there help me to get sober. And showed me how to live a sober life. With out their help who knows what would have been my outcome. Now i'm living a happyer sober life. My home life with my wife and son are getting better every day. If your in need of a 5 starter recovery center then this is the place you need to go. All the staff and other cliants there made my stay a memberful expereance. I had the privilege of attended and completing the Axis Treatment program in January 2013. I had an amazing, eye-opening experience there from the moment I walked through the door. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, kind and genuine, and they actually care about their client's wellbeing and future. As a client there I received ample attention including group & one on one counseling, therapy, medical, etc. The counselors and staff helped me walk through some huge life decisions while I was in the house and assisted me in planning out my next steps upon exiting the facility. Plus, the accommodations, amenities and food at Axis are nothing to scoff at. Making the decision to go through Axis was the best thing I ever did. I was blessed to have been given an opportunity to come to Axis Residential almost 4 years ago, and I can honestly say it changed my life in more ways than one. First off, the incredible staff - Tiffany, Doug, Dyllon, Patrick, night staff and the nurses (forget specific names) during my 30 day stay truly made the experience unforgettable. They were relatable and friendly, while at the same time took no crap from me. The counseling and group work helped change my perspective on life and redirect my negative way of thinking, so I could become a positive influence on myself and others. It's easier for me to open up around smaller groups of people, so to have only 5 other housemates at a time helped make it easier for me to share my troubles and past experiences on a whole new level than in my past times trying to get sober. This is my fourth time trying to get sober (second time in a rehab) and it finally worked for me! I'm one day away from celebrating 4 years sober (no fronts) and I honestly believe if I hadn't come Axis, I would not be alive today. I've been to many rehabs in my 30 plus years of addiction. My last rehab AXIS was by far the best all around, hands down! The staff there are AMAZING! Very compassionate, attentive, knowledgeable, and my counselor Mr. Doug made me feel worth it. I just took a year cake a couple weeks ago and want to THANK AXIS for saving my life! I cannot say enough about the Axis facility in Indian Wells. I became a resident in May of 2015 and was extremely scared about going. It was the best decision of my life. I was welcomed with open arms and attended to, through my detox. The staff was very attentive, frequently checked on me, and made sure I was comfortable when I got there. I wasn't forced to do anything and they made it a smooth transition through detox to sobriety. I was excited to start the work and it built such a solid foundation for me. This new life didn't make a lot of sense when I first started, but the therapy and counseling I received was very beneficial. I owe the staff my life. The small resident size (6 total), really helped me to feel apart of the family there. The staff was very easy to speak with, they had so much knowledge to share with me and life experiences, and I could easily relate. It made me feel accepted and not judged. I spent a lot of time researching different recovery centers for my 70-year-old father, who needed treatment for alcohol abuse. There are a lot of options in the Southern California area, and as this is a very personal decision, I'll talk about what I wanted for my father specifically. He did not need to be at a center that was virtually locked down -- i.e., offered no access to outdoor areas and did not let their clients leave the center. I felt one part of recovery that was essential for him was self-agency: being treated with respect, and trusted with his own autonomy as a successful, thinking adult. Luxury was not a big concern for me, though I did want him to feel at home in his surroundings, and because of his age, preferred that he not have to have a roommate. I also did not feel the strict schedule adhered to by some recovery centers -- wake up at 7:00, write in a journal, attend therapy before breakfast, etc. -- would be the best fit for him. If he needed to sit outside by himself and stare at the sky, I wanted him to be able to do that. Axis East offered all of these things, along with a very small program: they only accept 6 patients at a time. What really sold me on the place was the person who did the intake: he was extremely kind, a recovering addict himself who had a lot of knowledge about the process and what it would be like for my father. Of all the intake people I talked to at the treatment centers I was considering, I was touched by his empathy and willingness to spend an hour on the phone with me, helping me think through how to approach recovery with my dad. It's not easy, after all, staging an intervention with a parent, asking them to do something they do not think they need to do. But the thing that really sold me on the place and continues to be something for which I am grateful every day are the people that work at Axis East. The director of Axis East and the counselor who worked with my father are both two of the kindest people I've met. I was at the center quite a bit while my father was there, during visiting hours, and to attend a few family meetings; my father also needed some medical care outside of Axis during his stay, and the director was extremely thorough and professional about taking him to his appointments and medical tests, and getting his prescriptions delivered same-day. Medical management is extremely important in recovery centers, especially for older adults, and it was a relief not to worry about my father's care. You might say that kindness comes with the territory with people who choose to work with recovering addicts -- it should, anyway. I have heard from multiple people at Axis that one important aspect of recovery is helping others. This is not just a job for the people who work there: it's a calling. The director and my dad's counselor were also naturally warm and funny, people you just felt comfortable with. Every time I saw my dad there, he was joking around with someone on staff, and seemed -- though the therapy sessions and AA meetings are no joke -- to be happy on a personal level, to feel respected by the people he was working with, people who were asking him hard questions. His counselor repeatedly said to my father during our family meetings that he was proud of him for being so responsive in therapy -- my dad is not one for soul-searching or introspection, and I think part of why this treatment worked for him was the kind, empathetic, and yes, sometimes witty approach taken by this counselor and others like him. My dad has spent his life working in a business sector that requires a lot of interaction with people; he enjoys people, needs people, and I do not think he felt lonely at Axis, a place of relative strangers -- I think he felt cared for and was actually happy some of the time. A sense of humor is so important, and the people who work at Axis have it in spades. So in short, I could not recommend this place more highly because of the people who run it. They are tremendous. My dad's counselor has followed up with me twice in the weeks since my dad left treatment to ask how he's doing, and he and the director were both emotional about seeing him go. They feel like family now, and that says a lot. read more

This was the most unprofessional experience as a family member of a loved one with a rehab! My daughter was there a total of 9 weeks recently and we never had one family session! Therefore this caused triangulating with the counselor and us & my daughter which is extremely unprofessional for a counselor! Doing the right counseling can make things better especially if we do it together & families of addicts need it because they are hurt! Staying sober, therefore loving yourself is a lifetime process. Rhea her counselor said we didn't need to be involved because she needed to love herself first! That's bull, it takes many many healthy pieces of a puzzle to have the end result of staying sober! Rhea accused me in a text of contributing to my daughter's relapse when she went to live at a transitional living and the rules were too tough! WHAT! Rhea saw a side of me that was FRUSTRATED due to being left out, all I could do was vent to her! read more

Got the chance to get away , and get refocused on my recovery here . Very beautiful spacious house on a "resort" like property . Gorgeous back yard with a nice pool and jacuzzi . Felt extremely comfortable during my stay here .Made a big difference with a smaller group of people there , I feel I was able to get more of the one on one time I needed . Enjoyed the hikes and activities as well to stay busy while reminding myself how awesome, fun , and amazing sobriety is . Most of the staff are in recovery themselves , so they are more understanding , and knowledgable about getting you strong , and prepared for when you leave the facility. I would recommend Axis to anyone suffering with substance abuse . I had a difficult time in the beginning with my detox , and the staff would not give up on me. I was a patient at AXIS 1 year ago. I was struggling with alcoholism and had been to 3 detox centers in the previous 6 months and decided this time instead of just going in for toxicology i would spend more money and attend a proper alcoholism treatment program. I called their 800 number and spoke with one of their marketers. The marketer sold the place to me as a high luxury facility with jacuzzi , pool, 5star chef and memory foam mattresses. I was more concerned with the quality of the health services and as a victim of institutional abuse, that those services would be offered with courtesy and respect. I told him i am not interested in your hot tubs or what type of food you serve and i am not interested in back rubs or anything like that, just basic courtesy and respect. He assured me that serving their clients high quality healthcare with a lot of courtesy and respect was their high priority and standard. Even though i had recently lost my job and my health insurance did not have substance abuse coverage,I agreed to pay $13500 for their services and traveled from san francisco to coachella valley for treatment, because, i thought it was an important step in repairing my life and overcoming my alcoholism. From the moment i got there and they received my payment all i got was grief. there was this technician, Julianna who introduced herself to me as a therapist. she is actually an uneducated amphetamine addict in recovery who works there as a technician and even though she is not certified to do anything they have her conducting group therapy. She was virally disrespectful and discourteous from the beginning. barking at me and pointing her fingers at me. I had to make phone calls early in the morning to relatives in a different time zone and twice she came into my room barking and accusing me of being involved in some kind of petty crime even after explaining to her that i was only calling family. My alcohol withdrawal symptoms are very severe and include brain seizure and these seizures have been brought on by water(swimming, bathing) because of the change in body temperature that the water causes and so my internist in new york advised me to avoid water for the first few days of withdrawal. This was unacceptable to julianna and marched into my room with crossed arms and barked "there are not going to be any phone calls to relatives, you have to take a shower now, you are a spoiled brat, you are used to getting your way, well not around here and if you don't like it you can get out and you won't get any of your money back, we have a no refund policy". That was the last straw. Here i am a college teacher with a drinking problem and i spend what for me is a huge amount of money for health services and my only request before i paid the was that I be treated courteously and respectfully but instead i have some uneducated career criminal speed freak calling me a spoiled brat. i have never had a trust fund or an inheritance, everything i have i've earned without resorting to theft or crime or any other low strategies as i'm sure this girl has being a crystal meth addict. she probably has a long criminal record. you could just tell she was from that class of people. I spoke with a guy named bill ney who was the director. I told him i was leaving and i wanted my money back. he said that the money would be returned via the debit card that i used to pay. They only refunded me less than 1/3 of my payment ($4000 out of $13500 and i was only there 6 out of 30 days) and when i called him a week later he said we have a no refund policy and i'm lucky they are returning anything. Well why didn't he tell me that I was going to get a refund, and more importantly, if they felt for whatever reason that they were incapable of offering me the services i was about to pay for with a nominal amount of respect and courtesy then they should have told me that before they took my money and i would not have given it to them.Steer clear of this place. Low quality healthcare at high costs and la lot of disrespect. Don't let their marketers fool you, they probably make a commission every time they hustle someone in. read more
