I signed up to the 1 month special for $49 aud just to see what the ruckus was about and to try out a few types of classes and studios I had heard about (the ones that don't always offer free trial or are quite expensive for 1 off goes). The sign up step is easy and the team were helpful introducing the membership at the recent Yelp Rooftop event. So how does it work? You log in online (no app yet) and you can book up to 4 classes in the upcoming week. You can filter classes by type, time, location or intensity. So far I've tried 4 classes in 3 days and the classes are ones that are not offered at my local gym - Barre, Reformer pilates, Core + Hot pilates and I am trying another studio tonight. Sounds great right?! Well yes and no - there are conditions you see... -You can only go to 1 studio 3 x per month (including franchises) -If you don't show or you forget to cancel a class you have booked in you get punished (fair enough, it is taking other people's spots) -Some areas do not have a lot of classes but they seem to be expanding their offering all the time -You can cancel anytime by emailing them a few days before your next billing The website is fairly easy to use, I do wish they had an app to book and also a search function using a map would be handy too. Perhaps each member can also have a few strikes before being charged for a no show or late cancellation as emergencies do happen. The current monthly rate is $99 after your first month which is a bit high for me but I am enjoying the freedom of being able to go try new classes especially as I work in different areas during the week. It will be a tough decision though to jump to a dearer membership for my wallet but my mind and body are pretty happy having a wider selection of classes to fit around work!

She teaches a killer* pilates reformer class @BodyMindLife - my NEW FAVE go to for Pilates & Yoga: 4 locations, excellent selection of classes & workshops* (including my fave - Yin Yoga) & EXCEPTIONAL instructors**. ALL of them have made me smile in the first 3 minutes of class and again while dripping sweat and hitting my edge physically and otherwise. I also LOVE @AzraMustafa (2nd photo). She had me when she opened class: "If you need to go into child's pose at any point in the class, please do. Or if you want to spend the 1st 1/2 of class in child's pose and then go into savasana for the 2nd 1/2, I'm okay with that too." In short, she expertly led a full range of students with the perfect balance of humor, compassion & cheerleading. NOT easy w a mixed level class. +RECO: Sign up for Body Mind Life's ridic monthly all inclusive unlimited (less than $100US), even if only in town for a couple wks. Try all locations (I use Potts Point mostly) and their AM & PM classes. GREAT motivator to get up very early and stay connected to your healthy living while in Sydney. Or if you're just getting back into your fitness groove or trying these modalities for the first time, awesome way to dive in. Do this in any town where you'll be working/staying more than a week. It will motivate you to take more classes, get to know different instructors and to do something daily - the key to establishing new, healthy living habits. *I found out it wasn't just me who felt so as all the women from class were whimpering but smiling together in the locker room post class;) **If in or near Sydney or you like to travel, check out their "Events" schedule: mucho yoga teacher trainings & more... former @ExhaleSpa colleague @SimonPark has a couple of April trainings I'm planning to jump into.

I was absolutely not disappointed -- the space is phenomenal, raised up a level off the street and with a view of Sydney's CBD. The room is incredibly spacious, and well lit; wooden floors and high ceilings. The class itself, with Roxy, was wonderful -- though they do have a tendency to turn the heat up (whether you like that or not is a matter of preference, but I get hot enough doing yoga without needing them to turn it up to 30°C). Either way though, this is a fantastic spot for doing yoga and I'd highly recommend it!

My body was made for loving, not plodding around some path, dodging pedestrians in a busy city. Looked on line for some alternatives and came up trumps with Body Mind Life. I managed to jag an on line special of $43 for one month, unlimited classes. Considering the casual price is around $20 per class, I only needed to do three classes to be ahead. Bloody great deal! In the end, I did one a day, for five days. Each class I took had a different teacher, meaning I got a great look in for several of the different styles and teaching methods on offer. What threw me at first was the heat of the rooms -- I didn't realise they do raise the temperature in there to about 30 degrees, meaning you are dropping some sweat after the first series of sun salutations. So take a towel. Of note and much appreciated, in no particular order are these aspects: * huge studio space * decent hard flooring, meaning no malingering sweat stench in the room. Little markers tell you where to lay your mats at a respectable distance from the person next to you * thick, great quality mats and clean white towels available for hire at a charge of $2 apiece * plenty of cleaning fluids and wipes to clean your mats afterwards and hang them to air (and participants all seem to do this - bonus) * bathroom facilities immense: toilets, showers, blowdryers, tissues, space and light aplenty * amazing array of class types and times, seven days a week * great vibe. Friendly, competent, confident staff

Though the website says otherwise, socks were not required (I prefer barre in bare feet when it's done on wood floor as it is here). Barre Body bills this class as "...strong and dynamic." I'd say I found that to be true. If you've done Dailey Method, Pure Barre or Bar Method, you'll feel right at home. And if you've never done barre before but have done yoga and/or pilates, you'll do fine too. It's a serene environment to work out and it's nicely located to public transport for easy access. The classes themselves are varied, with different styles and intensities available depending on your ability and mood. Like my experiences in Melbourne, the teacher at my Surry Hills class was absolutely delightful and had a terrific way of leading the class and encouraging everyone.
