Axis Chevrolet in Jersey City took a $1,000 "fully refundable" deposit from me and never returned it. On December 19, 2024, I came in because their website indicated they had a Chevrolet Equinox EV with Super Cruise. It was not on the lot. I was told it had been transferred, and that if I put down a $1,000 fully refundable deposit using my debit card, they could bring in an Equinox EV with Super Cruise in a day or two. The salesman and manager repeatedly assured me the deposit would be fully refundable, and that they'd even write so on the back of the receipt. But they did not. On January 13, 2025, I let them know I was not going through with the deal and asked for my deposit back. What followed was weeks -- and then months -- of excuses, silence, and the same promises repeated with no refund. My partner and I called many times and spoke with salesman Larry Brooks and managers Mike Delgado, Harout Gapikia, and Sergio Mendez. I also went in person (after a long drive) and was kept waiting while they claimed they were "working on it," then I was sent away with another promise that it would hit my account "shortly." Yesterday (5/8/2026) my 2017 Chevy Volt broke down in Bernardsville, about an hour from home & Axis. While my wife was dealing with the reason we were there, I called Axis to set up a service appointment for the car when it got towed there. All was well and I was informed to get it there before 3:30P. The both of us took the tow truck to the dealership with the car and when we got there around 12:30P the staff told us they no longer could handle EV cars since their EV tech left and that I'd have to bring it to another dealership - the closest qualified one was about an hour away. I had the tow truck take the vehicle to a qualified dealership while my wife & I had to Uber back home. Much time was wasted because the phone staff didn't tell me they couldn't help me. Update: It has now been even longer, and my leased 2025 Chevrolet is STILL in service with no ETA for repair due to a mechanical issue covered under warranty. I continue to be left without a vehicle, without transportation solutions, and without clear answers from the service department. Paying for a lease while being left with no reliable transportation is unacceptable. A warranty issue on a brand-new vehicle should not leave a customer stranded for this long with no timeline and no meaningful assistance offered. Trash dealership. Truly a waste of time. I purchased a 2017 BMW here for my 17-year-old son, hoping it would be a reliable car. The vehicle immediately failed inspection because the check engine light was on. When I brought it back to the dealership, we sat there for six hours only to be told by the Service Manager that they don't even service BMWs and that I should take it to BMW for repairs. They said they would "work with me on price" after the repairs were done. BMW diagnosed $10,000 worth of repairs. When I called Larry, the salesman at Axis who sold us the car, he suddenly said there was nothing they could do. Yet moments later he confidently told me to pick any car on the lot and they would "make it right" because they had fired their entire service team. Here's their version of "making it right": They offered to pay the $8K remaining on my loan (after I had already paid $12K down) and then expected me to take out another $20K loan for a different car. Absolutely ridiculous. I declined. Then Larry changed the offer and said they would give me $12K, but I would still need to take out a new $20K loan. Make that make sense. In the end, I kept the BMW and spent $3,500 in immediate repairs just to get it running properly. The real lesson here: never buy a used car that isn't certified. Larry wasted hours of our time, and management watched us sit there all day. The manager finally approached us right before we left and seemed offended that my husband didn't want to shake his hand. If I were you, I'd stay far away from this predatory place. It was literally the worst experience ever. Let's start from the beginning. Be careful about the time of day you go -- you might not even be able to pull into the service area. There isn't enough space to park while other customers are picking up their cars. They've got a guy out there playing Tetris with all the vehicles, trying to make it work. I went through the check-in process, and they informed me of a diagnostic fee. Fine, I thought -- at the very least, I'd get a diagnostic report. Something I could read and even bring somewhere else if needed. I finished up, called an Uber home, and waited. A few hours later, I got a phone call telling me I needed a "transmission fluid exchange." The cost? Around $999! That immediately seemed suspicious. It felt way too high. So, I called another shop and got a quote that was literally half that amount, given my car had fewer than 45,000 miles. My plan was just to swallow the diagnostic fee, figuring at least I'd get a report out of it. But to my surprise -- no diagnostic report. So, what exactly did I pay for? The lady told me I paid for the mechanic's recommendation. Okay, but what is he basing that on? Apparently, on a report I don't even get to see. So basically, I was expected to pay for results I can't read myself and just trust whatever the mechanic says. Great -- $300 for a "recommendation." Alright, fine -- I got scammed out of $300. It happens. But at least I didn't get scammed out of a thousand. So seriously, don't trust these guys. It's pure predation and terrible customer service. read more

Make sure you thoroughly inspect your vehicle before leaving the service department. Check for dents, rim damage, and anything unusual. Once you leave, they may deny responsibility and claim the damage didn't happen there. Unfortunately, my experience with the service director, David, was very negative--rude, dismissive, and unwilling to take accountability. I didn't have issues with anyone else, but this situation was frustrating enough that I'd strongly advise others to double-check everything before driving off. like i mention before this was a superTerrible experience. When I asked David for his supervisor's information to report his behavior, he refused and said there was no one above him and that he was the director. Even the sales manager, Harou, said he couldn't help with David's disrespect and gave me emails that no one responded to. Another person in sales claimed to be in charge and was also rude. They kept my car for days, charged me $1,200, and said it was fixed when it wasn't--I even had to involve the police. Only after bringing it back a second time was the problem actually resolved. On top of that, they recommended U-Haul for a hitch installation, said my car was a perfect fit, then later claimed it couldn't be done. SCAMMERS * CROOKS * LIARS * BAIT & SWITCH DEALERSHIP (Yes, 5 stars -- because this level of deception deserves special recognition) We went to AXIS CHEVROLET in Jersey City, NJ to purchase a specific Mercedes-Benz GLS 450. From day one, this dealership showed exactly how crooked and dishonest they are. Our first visit was with a salesman named Tony, who was polite and professional. We were told no test drive allowed until numbers were agreed on. The vehicle's windshield sticker showed $38,999, while they listed everywhere and claimed an MSRP of $24,999. After negotiating numbers, we asked for OTD. After piling on junk fees and add-ons we never asked for, they came back with an (OTD) out-the-door price around $36,000+. We clearly stated we wanted $28,200 OTD and would finance through them. GM Harout refused to move below $28,971.68, so we walked. Tony followed up the next day. We stayed firm. A week later (02/07/2026), we contacted Tony again and agreed to meet in the middle at $28,500, come in, test drive, and close the deal. Tony told us he informed GM Harout and that they were expecting us as he is out on delivery of vehicle. That's when the circus started. We walked in, were handed off to another salesman (Larry), and immediately told the price was now $30,500 / $30,971, followed by the classic line: "You should've taken it last time." When we mentioned Tony, this salesman looked us in the face and lied, saying Tony was FIRED. We had spoken to Tony 30 minutes earlier. I was shown the car by Alex who seemed like a nice guy, The car was in pretty good shape but when I put my scanner on the car it showed 2 fault codes for the anti lock braking system & the restraint control module.....Alex then said....oh well let me see if there are any recalls on the car. To start out. I was with my Brother ready to buy an, what we perceived as "too good to be true" used vehicle. The price was $15,998.00 on car gurus. after both of us looking at it. He saw that there was an $895.00 prep charge shown to be tacked on. Well we drove an hour and a half to get there to purchase it if all was what it said to be. Even pulled a car fax before we went to purchase. showed a 2020 Nissan with 6065 miles on odometer. but all checked out as good. Looked like a Moms car in New York. That actually got driven less than 1100 miles a year. When we pulled up. The sales associate had the car upfront and already running. Sales associates were outside and ask can we help, and my Brother said he had called the day before and was set up by someone to look at it. Test drive, and if all good purchase. So after the salesman approached, and introductions were completed. Went inside and gave his information to test drive. But the salesman made the statement that he had to turn away a couple from Reading PA who drove three and a half hours, and wanted to purchase, but turned away cause my brother had called before them. No deposit was left by my Brother to hold. So we said just sales tactics. All good at this point. out for a test drive we go. We see some minor things, but the sales associate reassured that this car is good with a 30 day dealer Warranty on anything. A minimum of scratches. but we said we realize a NY car. Now the BAIT AND SWITCH comes in. The car originally sold new for 32,000.00 in 2020. We had seen that from the time they purchased and put on there lot the car. It had been reduced multiple times. My Brother said I have 17000 cash in pocket if you want to get it out the door off the lot. Then they tried to force me into accepting a defective car that clearly had major issues. When I said no, they got hostile, pushing me nonstop to call the bank and say I was "satisfied" so they could get their money. They held me at the dealership, refusing to let me leave until I agreed to the deal. I had to call the POLICE just to get out of there. I have the official incident report to prove it. And it didn't end there -- they tried to intimidate me by sending letters from their attorney, telling me to come pick up the same defective car they knew wasn't in working condition, saying it "had nothing wrong with it." I told them clearly: I want my trade-in back and I want my $7,000 back. I got NEITHER. They kept my money. They kept my car. They gave me NOTHING. Also, watch the prices on their website -- they'll list one price online and then jack it up by $2,000-$5,000 when you get there. I went in to check out a very specific used vehicle. The young sales guy was quite pleasant; however, the finance department is unbelievably shady. First, they tacked on a $4600 "dealer fee." Additionally, they would not tell me the total loan amount, only the monthly cost. When I pointed out that the total monthly costs would be more than DOUBLE the car's advertised price, they tried to tell me "that's how interest works." By the way, my credit score is pristine. We finally got to a bottom line total loan amount I could live with (still $3500 over what was on the website). This amount was on a scrap of paper. I should have taken a photo of it, silly me! We got all the way through lining up insurance, etc., and I dodged multiple pushy warrantee offers. I was signing paperwork with the shady finance guy and noticed that my loan amount was over $2k more than what we'd agreed to. Oh, and when I said, "Where's the paper with the amount we agreed to?" They said, "oh gee, we somehow lost it, but that couldn't possibly be the amount we said we'd sell it for." They are liars. Don't fall for the bait and switch prices they post online, and if you are foolish enough to go here, read everything you're signing VERY carefully. If you're female, don't go here at all. They only addressed my husband even though I was the only name on the loan - until they had me signing and tried to charge me $2k over our agreed upon price (and no, that wasn't taxes). I took my car here for service. I needed an oil change & tire rotation and the price quoted online was cheaper than most of the quick lube places in the area. I figured it was time a GM dealer looked at my car, anyway, since it's been 2 years since I bought it. I have a Buick Encore but they service every GM model, so I was able to schedule service. I picked 7 AM on a Monday morning, drove in, handed over the key, told them what I needed, and I sat in the lounge. They offered me a coupon for the IHOP next door, but that was the last thing I wanted, haha. I sat in their lounge and tried to read but the TV was too loud and I couldn't turn it down. I get the feeling that most people don't stay. They didn't have a lot of amenities in there, either. Just a coffee maker with that fake, powdered creamer and a soda machine. It took a little long to do, so I was out at 9. However, it was done right, and they did do the whole checklist. The last place I went lied to me about my brakes and didn't do the oil change at all. I had to go back and waste time the next day to get the to do it, so I'm not risking that again. All in all this was a very positive experience and I'd use them again. read more

We test drove a used car with a heavy fresh scent, only to uncover days after driving it home it had been used by a heavy smoker and now we're stuck with this stinky car. There was a manager that got fired the day after I purchased a car from them, during the signing of the deal i was being told the price of the vehicle before taxes and fees are $18,998 and the first set of papers said it as well, they made a mistake with the address and came back with new papers , thinking they were the same papers written up just different addresses i went ahead and signed them again when i got home and was able to rest my eyes from them having me there ALL day i reread the papers and they added an extra $4k so the car before fees came to he $24,500. I called and went in person 2 days after to get it amended because they certainly are able to, and under the federal law they are required to disclose all fees and they did not, the "genereal" manager there refused to do anything about the situation and said it is what is is. There Bank did tell me to open a complaint with the BBB , the NJ division of consumers, the FTC , and NJ attorney generals office, as well as there providing bank as well. At the end of everything they also told me i had warranty because i put down a extra $1,000 for it when i spoke to their lending bank , no warranty was added. This place is a joke. So because of this other customers SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE SCAM BEING RAN IN THIS PLACE. Under New Jersey law, fraudulent business practices entitle consumers to treble damages (3 times financial losses) and attorney's fees. Had a very pleasant experience with Andre the car Salesman. Andre was great!!!! He was honest and transparent. The financial manager Sal, was polite at first however he was rushing to do all of the paperwork. We were there for over 4-5 hours, it was a little busy so I understood the long wait time. Once Sal came to sign all of the paperwork, I wanted to get it over with and so did he. However, he added $1,000. to the vehicle price!!!!!!!!! The vehicle price was $12,937 and in the Bill of Sale states $13,937. (See the listing sale posting from CARFAX.com and my Bill of Sale screenshot) SAL DID NOT EXPLAIN OR DISCLOSED ANY ADDITIONAL FEE!!!!! Why did he add $1000. more to the vehicle price!????? On September 28, 2024 I purchased a vehicle from Axis Chevrolet at 685 Garfield St in Jersey City, NJ. I went there to purchase a 2023 Toyota Camry after seeing an ad on both CarGurus.com and the Axis website for $23,998 After signing the paperwork of agreement to purchase the car the gentleman came back with a paper claiming about an "Axis Advantage" fees and taxes that price needs to be adjusted for the state of New Jersey because of tax purposes. I told the man, no that is not correct because the ad said $23,998. He assured that the price won't change. So I signed. After doing the paperwork was done. The price was adjusted to $28,895. I went home with a bad taste in my mouth because something wasn't right. I called the dealership on Monday September 30, 2024 and spoke with the man. I mentioned to him what was done was false advertisement. That the supposed Axis Advantage was not mentioned in either ad on CarGurus.com and their website. At the end of the conversation nothing was resolved and he asked to come in to have the adjusted paperwork. I drove two and a half hours to the business and nothing was done. He gave me the same spiel. I mentioned to him that I legally had a three day grace period to either return or readjust the contract and his response was "That only matters if the sales person goes to your home to make a sale." Knowing the response was wrong, I didn't argue and said to him, "Ok." And walked away. I never received that ONE copy of the Axis Advantage adjustment in my purchased paperwork. The reason for this complaint on the business is there was false advertisement of the vehicle listed at $23,998 and then adjusted to $28,985. I traded my Chevy Equinox for $2000 and deposited $10,000. I received a finance of $21,000 and change making the total car at $33,000 and change ($12,000 deposit) I also got charged for tires and wheels for a used car. Prices online are not actual prices of vehicles. They charge additional fees for policies you don't need and won't remove them from the sale even if requested. Lots of bait and switch tactics. Would never buy from them again or recommend them to anyone. read more
