Great activity for family or friends. Instructors are very helpful and their demo is informative yet short so you get to spend a lot of time axe throwing. They have binders with a bunch of different axe-throwing related games that you can play with friends and upon request, they'll teach you cool tricks. Also, ask them for a discount!!! If you try to book in-person and ask nicely, they can give you a coupon/discount code for a certain amount off of your purchase.
Really unique activity to try! Easier said and in demos than in real life - probably spent half the time still missing the board. Still fun and get some friendly competition. There are three axes sizes: small (pretty light), medium (few pounds) and large (more pounds). I thought the lightest axe was good for single hand throwing and control. The medium one was okay for two handed throwing, and the largest axe was honestly too heavy for me (and a bit uncomfortably heavy for my bf). Staff was friendly and after the demo let us be flexible to throw the axes and play our own games. Could have used a bit more instruction or help but throwing techniques are so variable. Good for date night or hanging out with a small group of friends.
First time axe throwing and I came with a friend. Very easy to make booking online. There's plenty of parking in the front and back area. Easy check in. There's a waiver you have to sign and they check you in. After a quick guide on how to throw, we went straight at it. Once we got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. Small medium large axes to throw. There's add ons you can buy like throwing knifes. There's a binder with different games you can do instead of just trying for bullseyes. We both ending up getting better towards the end. Would definitely come hang here again!
Our group of 12 had an axe-llent time at this venue! It's a hidden gem in downtown San Jose. Thomas was super helpful in explaining the steps of throwing axes and knives. It's about 9 rows of axe throwing about 1 hour and 15 minutes of playtime. They have a clean single bathroom! They have parking in the front and a venue in the back You'll have to sign a waiver then listen to a 2-5 minute explanation from their small to big axes. We had the extra big class and all of it was so fun to throw them. Would come here again!
What a fun work off-site we had at AxeVentures Axe Throwing! It was a good amount of time for everyone to learn, try, practice, and improve. The competitiveness in us came out as we tried to improve on our own throwing while also cheering for each other. A large group came in after we started. They took up most of the spaces. We stayed on the far end in our two lanes. There were a couple of table games on the tall table with stools for people waiting for their turn. It was lots of fun, thanks AxeVentures Axe Throwing!
What a seamless process to book a team outing! We had a team of 25 looking to vent out our stress with axes (don't worry not at each other). All I did was reach out via email with the information they were requesting, and they were ready with the invoice! We booked the first time slot which gave us flexibility. Now let me help you with some details from all the calling I did. - I was able to make a reservation a week in advance and just needed to pay a day or two before. - You can't go down in number, but you can add folks as needed at the venue! They are pretty flexible with this, as long as there is no other group. We reserved for 20, and we got to use all the lanes! - They were so nice to arrive a little earlier to open so that we can have the food delivered on time and give us time to set up! - You can cater food here! It was so nice because we got our favorite Slice of Homage pizza which was a huge hit! And they had additional tables that could be set up! - They sell water bottles, but they also allow you to bring your own. - They are willing to help give instructions again as folks were trickling in, which was important for safety but also was so nice of them with their patience. - They even had a binder of competitions and games to play with the axes, as well as seating to hang out and play other games on the table! - Many opportunities to take pics, videos, and even enjoy lunch! I can't think of a better place who can be this accommodating with a huge group like us. I would recommend this to everyone who is planning a corporate event, they made sure to take care of us! We had a blast getting over the fear of throwing axes and just bonding over a great time at a great place!
Super fun experience our host/teacher was very informative and cool! Def will do again, too bad no alcohol though!
Been here twice and had a blast both times! It's $42/per person for 1 hour 15 minutes which is plenty of time and a single lane can hold up to 5-6 people. Before getting started you sign waivers and read safety instructions which are pretty self-explanatory. A team member then gives us instructions and tips and tricks on how to throw the axe correctly which was very helpful. You honestly work up a sweat here while having fun. It takes a few tries to get a groove on/hang of things, but once you got it it's super fun! I do wish they had the AC on blast tho lol. Other than that it's a fun date spot, or to bond and hang with family and friends.

We booked our time slot online, super easy and user friendly to do so. It ask that you arrive 10 minutes early, and allows you to add on a giant axe or knives to your experience. We opted to add on knives, and arrived early. We had the whole place to ourselves. Orlando greeted us, checked us in, signed our waivers and then waited for our lanes to be ready. Because we had the place to ourselves we each got a lane to ourselves- generally you'd share a lane and take turns throwing. It was pretty amazing! Orlando was great, friendly and personable. Showed us how to be safe, where to throw from and how to throw. After that we were able to start. It was fun taking turns with the different size axes. After some time passes Orlando brought us the knives, and that was a run add on but definitely a lot harder to stick to the wall than the axes. Glad we opted to get those. They have some really fun table games which if you're sharing a lane with a group of people makes the time pass better while waiting. We enjoyed them both peewee the end of our time slot to give our arms a rest. Overall, fun and quick experience and we'd book again. read more
If you are looking to try something different with a date or friends the why not try axe throwing? Don't worry if you don't know how to throw an axe. They teach you are the beginning of your session. They also give you a safety briefing which is a good idea. They do not have much in the way of food but they do have some chips and drinks. Parking can be tight in front but don't worry they have extra parking in back. read more
We had an awesome team offsite at San Jose Axeventures! Nothing brings coworkers together like a little friendly axe-throwing competition. The instructors were super helpful and made sure even the beginners felt confident by the end. We had so much fun with the bleeding targets, and the variety of axes we can choose from! It was such a fun mix of laughs, cheers, and surprisingly satisfying throws. Definitely a unique and exciting way to bond as a team--highly recommend! Would probably come back again for another occasion! read more

Family and I came in to spend some time together. It was a great experience! Sasha and Chris were very thorough on providing tips. I also loved how helpful they were with our youngest throwers. If you have any reservations on bringing in children, have no worries! Our youngest was so very careful and enjoyed it. I love how there were games at the tables while waiting turns. It was also nice to see how they were adding points and making it a friendly competition. Will definitely be back for the smash room next door. read more

Great activity to do if you want to try something new! Also if you enjoy listening to heavy metal while causally chucking axes at a wall. Definitely got an arm work out from trying so many times to get bullseye. There are different types of axes you can choose from. Try something different and have fun. Throw with caution! Please stay at home & do not attempt if you are accident prone. read more

My partner and I went and it was the first time for both of us. Sometimes I get in my head and worry about making mistakes and looking stupid, but my anxiety was alleviated here. They're really good at noticing how you can improve your technique and not in a condescending way at all. It feels like they really want you to succeed, and their advice is super helpful. If you're like me and get scared of trying new things, I encourage you to try. I'm glad I took the chance! read more

What an awesome evening!! Highly recommend it for a date night or as a team activity. I have done Axe throwing a few times in the past and it continues to be deceptively hard but still loads of fun. I wish they had food and drinks but that's debatable. I enjoyed the music they were playing and overall it made for a great chill enjoyable 75 minutes. Do it! read more
We had such a great time! Got a Groupon and booked for a Thursday night. Came a little early to sign the waiver and checked in. We kept masks on the whole time, and they kept the door to the building open. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Meg and Tom were our coaches, and Meg has the warmest personality and really set the tone for us to enjoy our time there. Took me a little while to get the hang of it, but my husband was amazing (he got around 20 bullseyes). You get over an hour to try out the different techniques the coaches teach you, and get out some of your aggression with the axes. We already have plans to come back and bring friends & family! read more
Bought tickets online the night before and was happy to find an open time at 3pm on a Saturday! They ask you to arrive 10 mins before so they can give a quick tutorial. The staff were all super friendly and helpful and gave us some really good tips since it was our first time. They also remind everyone to keep their masks on the entire time and the space is very well-ventilated as well with open doors and a strong fan. It was $35 for 75 mins and we felt like that was a pretty good amount of time for first-timers, but we'd probably choose a shorter duration for next time. Also if you buy tickets together then your group shares a lane, so would recommend buying together only if small group, otherwise you won't have as much individual time. Overall super fun with great staff - would definitely try this again! read more
Axe throwing is awesome and pretty fun! Before checking out axeventures i had been a few times before; but I realized their axe are a bit old and won't out which makes it hard to stick to the wall, and also the target boards are a bit run down which makes it hard to stick since a lot of tiny sticks fall off the wall when you hit your target. The handles of the axe I used were flimsy, a bit shaky as if broken but taped together type of feel. Customer service is incredible; these guys are super friendly and always want to help or answer your questions, which was amazing! I just wish their axes weren't flimsy. Otherwise a great place to check out. read more

On a whim, I took my son here for his 10th birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was super fun. Age 10 is easily old enough (at least in terms of strength and dexterity) -- and his 80 year old grandparents were also able to do it. The man working here, Luca, was fantastic -- very nice guy, and great at both teaching us how to do it. He was also really great working with my son. Highly recommend this! Will be telling my friends too. read more

Hey you! Yea you! Are you looking for something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon in San Jose? Well, look no further. Axeventures was a blast and the staff teaches you how to throw if you've never held an axe before haha. Just imagine how you'll impress all of your friends with your axe throwing abilities! Just as an FYI, it's not necessarily an outdoor venue but the doors are open and it's just the fans going so it can get a bit hot at times. Make sure to bring some fluids but if not, they have some available for purchase. read more
This place was so much fun and the hour and 15 minutes can go by quickly. The parking lot is pretty small so I suggest coming early to make sure you meet the arrive before 10 minutes. I like that there was a variety of axes. They have games you can play so if you're competitive I definitely would recommend it's a good vibe competition even for beginners. read more
If you're looking for a great stress relief and/or an activity to do with friends or family, then check out Axeventures! We booked a 9 PM reservation for Saturday night for 5. We checked in around 8:45 PM where they had us sign waivers electronically. There were multiple groups there. Right at 9 PM, they had us all congregate in the center while they do a demo. After, they assigned us to our designated lanes. The axes were located in the center table - free for all. We tested a few and when we turned back, groups were hogging a bunch of the small axes. The workers were kind enough to get us the small axes so we can use, so we appreciated that. The time was for 1 hr & 15 mins - it flew by so fast. We had so much fun & made really great memories. Thankfully, no freak accidents occurred and we felt safe! read more

Booked a lane for father's day with the fams and we enjoyed it! The employees were super nice and helpful and answered all our questions since it was our first time. The only downside is they don't serve food or alcohol, however they do have bottled water upon request! I would totally recommend as a family activity! read more
Great place! Was in a group of seven people including three young teens and we all had a blast! Axe throwing, contrary to what I expected, does not leave you with a sore arm or anything. We will absolutely be back. In fact, I'm gonna plan a staff meeting there in the Fall. read more

Axe throwing can be an intimidating proposition for some. Sharp objects generally tend to cause most people anxiety. I first developed a curiosity a couple years ago when I saw axe throwing while driving through San Marcos while touring the breweries in the San Diego area. But I didn't have the nerve to attempt it back then. During the pandemic, I had developed a comfort level with folding knives and very sharp culinary kitchen knives. It prepared me somewhat for the experience of axe throwing. I recently attended a Yelp Elite event at Axe Ventures on Park Ave near Rose Garden and Downtown San Jose. I returned a week later with four of my co-workers including two engineers from Korea for company team building. I was the only one who had thrown axes, which was for the first time a week prior. It is a large warehouse-type of space with quite a few fenced lanes and targets. They had the roll-up garage door in the back open, so it was a bit chilly. I would imagine during the summer it helps keep the space cool. Hopefully they have air conditioning for the sweltering summer months. The first thing I noticed was the emphasis on safety. The staff there had us sign waiver forms the moment I entered the door. The motion of throwing an axe at a wooden target reminded me a lot of bowling. You first select the axe, which vary significantly in weight and length. The heaviest ones can be challenging to hold steady with one arm, so two-handed throws are an option, although I found it to be somewhat awkward. The next step is positioning your feet along the lines painted on the concrete floor denoting height. There is an orange line for 5'3" and below, a blue line for 5'4" - 6'4" and then another orange line for 7'0". I stood somewhere behind the blue line. The key was coordinating my feet with my arm. I focused on the step. They told us to place our dominant side's leg forward, and then take a step forward while throwing the axe from a raised position over the head. You then bring it down while releasing it. From there, it seemed like it was a matter of practicing the location and making sure the head of the axe remains straight. I saw a lot of people unintentionally turn the head of their axe horizontally, which would make it near impossible to stick the axe in the wood. So there was a balance of strength and precision needed with each throw. Positioning in relation to the floor lines also seemed to help with the fine-tuning of the axe rotation. I tried to observe how the axe contacted the target. If it looked like it was under rotating, I took a step back. When it landed, if the axe head was facing too far down, I took a step forward. While my co-workers were initially hesitant to participate in axe-throwing (one of them was actually too scared to attend), within half an hour they were landing some really nice throws with the occasional bullseye. The two engineers from Korea were also landing a lot of their throws and had a lot of fun. They said that they hadn't seen any axe throwing in Korea at all. Toward the end, I was sticking the axe on almost every throw. They even gave us a ice pick axe to try out, which was small and dense. You have to be pretty precise to stick the ice pick axe in the target. At 40 dollars for an hour and 15 minutes per person, it's not inexpensive. So for me, it would probably be an occasional hobby rather than a regular thing. That said, I'm glad that there is a local spot to experience and recommend it for reasonably physically-coordinated folks. read more
