Please do yourself a favor and believe the bad reviews. Horrible business, the man I spoke with was terribly rude and condescending. Quite frankly it was the worst that I have been treated in a long time, misogynistic jerk would be the PG way to describe him. I described the issues I was having and he would keep interrupting me to tell me that it was not racoons and must have been one of my cats. Said he would come out to check if I was actually having an issue but wanted $150 to do so. When I told him I would not pay for an estimate he rudely said I wasted his valuable time and hung up on me. Fast forward 2 days and leaves me a voicemail asking if I wanted his services or not. Two days after that message, he leaves another. The nerve that this man has is appalling. There is no way that I would recommend them, even if he paid you $150 to come out to do an estimate. Amazing company and family owned. My attic was overrun with squirrels and I needed to call a professional! Chipmunks were also noted and were part of my service. The cost is a little stiff but so much included in the price. Many trips back and forth as animals were captured and taken away. All entry points found, all sealed to deter wildlife. Quick estimate, and very attentive to all my needs. I can sleep now, and so worth calling this company to help me! read more

This company is the worst. They are extremely difficult to work with, do not show up even on the day they say, do not get back to you when you call, etc. and are very expensive and do very little. They also made assurances to get the animal in our attic out and would find the hole and put a barrier up and seal it with wood. I have used animal removal companies in the past that were great. These people did not put a trap where the animal was getting in, rather on the ground that wasnt even attached to the house? They say they caught something, but absolutely NO proof and they could have caught anything on the ground! They are also extremely rude when you ask them to provide you anything. They also did not seal the hole with wood as promised, only put a flimsy screen up. When we heard noises again, they did not come out to follow up as promised the next day even after several calls . They make no guarantee and will take your $600+ without even removing or checking if they can see an animal. Its a sham! read more

I am sorry I have to give any stars. This has been a nightmare which cost $900. The short story is we started with a hole in our roof and a raccoon in a crawl space. We ended with a hole in the roof and a raccoon in our bedroom ceiling. There was a long middle which included damage to our house from a raccoon they sealed in our house. Today Jim called me unhappy about this review. Somewhat menacingly, he stated that they were going to come around and pay me a visit. I let the police know about the possibility of their doing mischief, hopefully he'll read this update, too. Update #2 - they did not catch anything, that is a lie. They did not offer, nor would I ever accept from an animal trapping company, a chimney cap or to cut down a branch. I have my own long-pole pruning saw, and I have masons who work regularly for me. Jim Quinn here is just a consummate liar, I don't see how he remains in business. Update #3 - Apparently, the person calling himself Quinn S., and signing his responses Jim, is either William James Sheffield (listed owner of the business) , or William Slatter Quentin Sheffield - I guess his son, as they were listed at the same address in Niles a while back. And let me reiterate, what Jim or Quentin says about their trapping any racoon on my property is not true. I saw through their scam when they talked about putting a chimney cap on my chimney and said that the coon was getting in through what Quentin said was a purposely placed vent hole in the chimney to let air in - have you ever heard of such BS? read more

The young service tech who did the work was very nice and conscientious as well as knowledgeable. He took care of business quickly and professionally. As for who I assume is the "owner"......Jim, who answers the phone, he could use some people skills. He was friendly when we wanted an estimate which was $150. Afterwards he called about 3-4 days later and angrily asked on voicemail if we were "giving him the job or what?" I called back immediately and got his voicemail and let him know we had just buried my father in law, whose house the estimate was done for. And that we were ready to proceed with the work. He didn't call back for 3-4 days before he finally did and committed a tech to our job. The employee came and after he finished I paid him. The next day he came back to add some trim to the garage door and "Jim" showed up. Jim proceeded to tell my mother in law that his tech had under bid the job by $175 and he was going to take it out of his check. Very unprofessional. You don't say something like that to a customer. Overpriced, poor service, no follow up. I paid $1400 to have animals in the attic removed and entry points sealed up. They put a flimsy piece of mesh on one hole, and within two months the squirrel is back in the attic again. I've called several times to see about getting them to come back out, no return calls. Awesome Critter Gitters installed a wire barrier around my deck and porch. They did respond promptly. However, for 3 days' worth of work, even including overhead, their prices are sky-high. The wire barriers were installed satisfactorily. They insisted that I did not have to be at home during installation but rang my doorbell about 8 times each day to ask some question or another. This was annoying at the very least. They left all of their construction trash behind, promising to cut the wood into pieces small enough to fit in my trash container. The pieces are too big and I will have to cut them down. So I paid them to make more work for me. And for the price, they should have hauled away all of the construction debris. In addition, they left open trash bags with food debris. For a company that deals with unwanted animals, this only serves to attract them. Plus they threw trash into my recycling bin. They removed dirt from my property and I asked that they dump it into the woods where it would not be seen. They left a large, visible dirt pile. I had to supply (buy) a wheelbarrow and trash bags. Again, for the price, they should have their own supplies. They damaged my landscape lighting. When I called, they told me to call an electrician, find out what was wrong and then they would come and fix it. If I'm calling an electrician and paying him, then he is going to fix it. And of course, they did not offer to reimburse me. They also did not call me back as promised. Landscape lights were not replaced properly, and edging to garden beds was completely covered with dirt. For the price, everything should have been replaced properly and garden beds restored to their initial condition. They did not show up one day, and did not call. They, instead, left a scrawled note on my garage door (I was not home to see it). They were difficult to deal with, did not seem knowledgeable. Wanted to kill everything, including chipmunks that were not harming anything (and even if these were removed, more would come). And also wanted to store a trap from another job on my property, including the bait which was rotting fruit. I will not use them again. UPDATE: Apparently, while digging trenches to install the barrier wire, Awesome Critter Gitters damaged the roots of a 15-foot shrub, and it has since fallen down. read more

Believe the negative reviews, and call someone else. Set a trap for a groundhog in my crawl space. Trap sprung following day and sat for two weeks doing nothing. They picked up sprung trap and refuse to set it again, only interested in selling me an abatement fence. $250 for nothing, but inappropriate rude comments. Customer service? I strongly agree with the negative reviews. After having spent $1025 on "trapping" services that never trapped a thing, I called Jim several times to let him know that we still had animals living in our home. At first, he dodged the calls, claiming he could not find the invoice, he did not recall servicing our address, etc. Finally, after several messages to him and conversations with his "assistants," I got him on the line to discuss the issue, and he claimed he did what he said they would do, he would not honor the warranty, and he rudely hung up on me. I will certainly report this business to the BBB and likely take him to small claims court. But first I have to spend my time and money finding a new pest control, because now the animals are so bad that they are chewing wires in our rafters! If I could leave 0 stars I would. Even the responses to other reviews are unprofessional. I'm a property manager of a house that needed trapping. After meeting with the "professional" he rambled on trying to make himself sound knowledgable. Promptly begged for a signature stating he completed the service. This was before he had done anything. As a property manager in basically a middle man with payments. So while waiting for the owner to make an online payment this guy decided he would leave and come back once payment was made. I agreed and we both left. The next day I get a call from the owner of the house saying the reason they left was because I didn't know the square footage of the house and a bunch of other excuses that just never were even brought up. This place is a scam. I believe they hire felons and young kids to talk nonsense and act like they know what they're talking about when in reality they are just trying to get your money without doing any professional work. read more

One star is as low as you can go. Paid serious money for the removal of squirrels and it came with a warranty. Squirrels were back within a couple of months and they want additional money to install additional equipment. He will not do anything unless we pay more money. Do not engage in the services of this company or Jim Sheffield or his employee Blake. They are scammers. We hired them for removal of 'critters' form our attic. They did not inspect the attic, walked around the perimeter of the house pointing out microscopic areas where critters can enter. Gave us a bill for over $900, and installed some chicken wire preventative that allow the critters to leave and not return, nailed some flashing together, caulked some gaps, and told us they guarantee their work for one year. After removing the chicken wire devices, the critters are back. Called them back, arrived two days later, two hours late, Blake calling to tell us he was going to be late, then sat in the driveway upon arrival for 20 minutes, never getting out of the company truck, talking on the cell phone, then leaving the property. We immediately called his cell phone, for return, no response. We called for the next 3 days, no response. Then we called the owner for two more days, no response. These guys will take your money, provide no services, leave you with the animals in your attic, and never return your calls. Only call these guys if you need someone to dispose of your hard earned cash for removal from your wallet...they are savvy, and I can't believe they scammed me!!! read more

Not so awesome! Billed $250 for an estimate without telling us there was a charge before coming out. I asked for an estimate not an inspection, but was billed for estimate/inspection. He unwittingly got my tenant to sign a form so to keep them from harassing my tenant I had to pay the money. I had a great experience with Niles Wildlife Pest Control Great fast service, didn't charge for an estimate and his total price was only $350. Awesome Critter Gitters said "yeah but we offer a guarantee:. That's nice but for $2000 which Is what there estimate was I could have the other company come out at least 4 more times. He proceeded to argue with me on the phone and said he told me about the estimate charge As a professional property manager who has NEVER run into this kind of issue before and am not authorized to spend that kind of money without my clients prior knowledge I assure you he didn't tell me. I would avoid is deceptive business practices and take your business elsewhere. Notice the rest of my reviews are 4 or 5 stars. It takes a lot to make me this disappointed with a business. read more
