We have had our AWAY carry-ons over the years (five plus years to be exact) and they've stood the test of time & place, travel to and from: Italy + Jamaica + Munich, Nuremberg, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Germany + Prague Czech Republic + Vienna & Salzburg, Austria + Toronto, Montreal, Canada + Virginia + Vermont + DC + Maryland + Colorado +Massachusetts + Maine etc... The luggage takes the rough & tumble. Thrown about everywhere. Their product stands up! I guess people just only write when they want to complain. Yes, you know who you are. If I could leave ZERO STARS for Away and their customer service I would. My family have been loyal Away customers for many years. I bought the glossy style with my mother for my daughter in both the carry on and the train case. With only ONE TRIP they are completely destroyed. The finish is completely untenable for travel yet no warning is given to the consumer. We of course expected the same quality of our other bags. Despite the fact that the items were purchased last week and we only made on trip, they will not help us at all with the purchases. In these times, purchasing expensive luggage is a luxury and this company does not care about their consumer nor do they back up their products. Cheaply made. The plastic coating of the handle on my carry on bag started peeling on my first trip and only got worse the more I used it. I contacted customer support because a three month old $275 bag shouldn't shed plastic everywhere, but I was told it's "cosmetic damage" and not their problem. Purchased a $260 Away carryon and after the first flight, the zipper broke - reported to Away who insisted that they could not replace the damaged carryon unless I had pictures of the bag when I originally had purchased it - they said this was their policy but no where online or on their website this is noted. I was not able to provide any photos of the bag originally purchased since who in the world takes photos of their luggage ?? The bag was not replaced and cannot be used now and my $260 is down the drain. Very unethical business standards since when corresponding with them, they continuously changed and amended their return/exchange policy to suit their needs and were never complicit or could provide any writing that specified that original purchase photos were needed. Purchased a large Flex Away suitcase and even initialed it. Spent right under $500 in July 2025. I read awesome reviews from travelers about quality and warranty. The following month was its first trip and I was disappointed and disheartened to see the hardshell was half way caved in. I was shocked that a quality company's product would do this and even more shocked when they said their warranty does not cover it because the bag is still functional. Two stars because the bags are great. Customer service not so much. I have had the carry on for years as well as my wife. Brought the bags out of the closet for an upcoming trip and one of my handles broke. Filed a claim explaining that we would be leaving in 10 days time. Claim approved. One week later I check the tracking number for the repair kit and it says it will be arriving three days before I return from my trip. Three weeks to send a luggage handle in the U.S.? Halfway through my trip the other handle fails. Now they want another claim filed. My wife had a handle break a couple of years ago, brand new pice of luggage. I purchased my Away backpack in November 2024 and loved it. After a recent trip, I noticed that I have 2 tiny holes/rips on the top and bottom area of the bag. Even though Away offers a 1 year warranty on the bag, they would not fix/replace my bag b/c my bag is still functional. A bag costing over $100 should not rip/tear in 8 months. We previously purchased (3) cases in green. We purchased this new case expecting the green to match; however, we were surprised to see that this green didn't match our previous purchases. We have emailed customer service numerous times asking to exchange this item for a different color; however, we have been advised that we would need to pay the difference between the sale price we purchased the trunk at over Memorial Day and the current full price that is listed on the website. The Away customer service has been unhelpful on this. See below responses from Judy: "Thanks for following up. We understand that you want to have an exchange since the price has returned to its regular amount. We can no longer process a price match for the new item you'll place. We don't have an exchange policy on our website, which you can see. When you buy the item during our sale and request an exchange after the sale. The amount you paid during the sale, is the amount will be deducted from the other item that you want to exchange at regular price." Generally, we were a bit surprised that Judy mentioned we can clearly see that Away does not have an exchange policy. It is common practice for brands and retailers to exchange items for different colors or sizes (clothing) if the product is the same overall regardless of what the sale price was versus what the current price is. This has been a very frustrating process. Away's policy pushed us to order return our purchase and order new luggage from Monos. It's unfortunate because we have really enjoyed our Away luggage but do not foresee purchasing more after this overall experience. read more

I'm really disappointed in my luggage from Away. it scuffs worse than any luggage I've ever seen. I've only taken it on 3 trips and it looks so ugly and cheap now. I tried everything to remove the scuffs but it's just awful. I reached out about the scuffs and Away blew me off. READ THE FINE PRINT before you spend the money! When you invest in what you think is a quality bag and a solid manufacturing reputation, you appreciate a "limited life-time warranty" like AWAY seems to offer. BUT, much to my disappointment, my investment in AWAY and my TRUST in their products have both evaporated. The "fine print" of their warranty (and their Customer dis-Service reps) says that even in you bought a tote bag during Covid (and weren't able to travel much), and even if the bag itself still looks marvelous (well cared for and protected), and even if it's readily apparent that the handles were either badly designed or completely faulty (because they have virtually disintegrated), that "warranty" is worthless. Could not imagine worse customer service. They use SHOP for their order fulfillment and when I went in they had an old address I haven't used in years. I changed the billing address properly and didn't see where to change the shipping address. When I realized the shipping address was incorrect, I emailed them immediately and then chatted when they opened the next morning. Phone customer service is not available. They said they couldn't change delivery address and instructed me to contact UPS. It cost me $89.82 to change the delivery address when the luggage hadn't even been sent to UPS yet. I stopped here twice during my last trip to NYC. I was pleasantly surprised with pretty much everything I came in contact with, which shouldn't be surprising if you're familiar with the brand, Away. I already own two suitcases from Away, but I wanted to see what their store offered and I heard they sold things in the store that weren't online. The store itself is small. But like the luggage, it's super functional. All of their styles are neatly displayed. I noticed they sold their toiletry bags that I've always wanted and I picked up some fun luggage tags. One thing I found out is they do the leather pressing on luggage tags there. On my original tags, I didn't do that and wished I had so I came back the next day to have my initials put into my tags. All of the associates were really nice, helpful, and attentive. The suitcases are pricey, but worth it in my opinion. My two cents: get the bag without the battery because the battery just takes up space and you're able to pack less because it's built into the suitcase itself. Buy a battery yourself for cheaper, but overall the suitcases are outstanding! read more

After doing my research on Away luggage, I finally had the opportunity to visit the soho location and purchase my first Away carry-on! From the moment I walked in, the staff were extremely helpful. I had a ton of questions regarding my purchase, and the young girl who helped me was knowledgeable and patient with me Each luggage piece comes with international plug adapters, a laundry bag, and the option for portable battery. The small carry-on fits perfectly on the above compartment on the plane. They also have a wide variety of color options to choose from. I opted to get the personalized luggage tag for an additional $10. This purchase was absolutely worth it in my opinion! read more

I have had my away luggage since 2018. I got the bigger carry-on in pink. Since then, I have had to have it replaced once. The wheel caps popped off twice, and my lock stopped working. When I called, the advisor said it was due to my luggage going through TSA. It worries me a little bit because I travel a few times a year having to get the lock replaced every time my luggage goes through TSA is concerning. We'll see what happens. Four stars for this location because the repair was seamless and very quick. I took my bag in to get the wheel caps and the lock replaced. It took less than 30 minutes. There is a lot to do in the neighborhood, so I just walked around until they called me to come pick up my bag. read more

All-around great experience at the Away store! I came on a weekday night during rush-hour, and sales associate Rachel graciously offered to help me throughout my visit. I came in wanting to buy a Carry-On and Large set but also had a lot of questions about the bags, and she kindly spoke to me about everything ranging from the limited edition colors (which they have in stock) to their 100-day trial & lifetime warranty. One benefit of the store is that you can mix-and-match colors for their luggage sets (online, all bags must be the same color). Plus you can apply online coupon codes in-store too! I ended up buying a set with a Large bag in Coast and Carry-on bag in Asphalt and couldn't be more delighted. Both bags came in a drawstring bag so that you can keep your luggage clean when bringing them home (I had to put them in the under stowage of a commuter bus and my luggage remained spotless). I am disgusted with this company and how they handle issues. I purchased a set (large and carryon), which includes the lifetime warranty. My large suitcase actually stopped and is not repairable, it every stopped mangling my color, so they are telling me they will replace my large bag, but I have to buy a new carryon to make it the complete set ai originally purchased. WORST part is the HORRIBLE "customer service" throughout all of this by sending very rude emails and denying me the opportunity to speak with a manager. Ruined my first experience into this brand/store visit. I was checking out the smaller cosmetic box-like products as I wanted to gift it to a friend... and this white young-ish (30's) female staff comes over to ask me if I had any questions. I can't lie..I was a little hesitant coming into the store after reading some reviews related to customer service...I ordered a bigger carry-on online and wasn't sure I would receive it in time for my trip and stumbled upon this physical location on the website, AFTER I made an online purchase. But I am really glad I came. The staff was very helpful. The guy who helped me...Jeff, I believe his name was...he was super helpful, personable and patient...because lord knows I was quite indecisive that day lols: "I really love the blush but no...The 'sand' is saying something too". Ended up going with the blush because that's what I came in for in the first place. The guy at the registered gave me a quick tutorial of how to use the lock and eject the battery. Which is so essential for my lifestyle. I also feared not being able to fit everything in it for my trip and when I got home...everything did, and I was surprised because I am definitely an over packer and frequently sport platform/flatform shoes. Thankful for that little compression system inside the bag. Man, with all that comes with that little bag: address tag, eraser for scuffs, ejectable battery, European adapters, laundry bag...Plus the life time warranty and their policies. This review is for Away Luggage: Now that the worst of COVID is hopefully behind us, my plans from 3 years ago now are being put into place. This means travel around the world in a new era of pushing, squeezing and disrespectful passengers on planes. This includes delays and enhanced airport security systems. So what is needed in this new era? Great luggage of course. After reading reviews of the top hard shell luggage of 2023 and all comparisons of each manufacturer, "Away" was the top rated brand. I decided to purchase their "large" checkable piece along with 2 of "the bigger carry-on" pieces and in aluminum since the Duran was supposed to be better. This all transpired at 7 pm Friday night going into President's Day weekend. Saturday early morning after more checking, I found that the polycarbonate shell was superior so I canceled the original order on line and ordered the same pieces but in the other material. We'll low and behold as I was contacted via email and informed that their cancel policy is 30 MINUTES and that it wasn't possible to cancel my order but they would "try" and advise me. During this fiasco I called what I thought would be customer service over 5 times and each time I was always directed to only communicate via email and phone calls were not available. This for a new customer spending $2,000 as a start. Additionally the pieces purchased were to be monogrammed but delivery is stated to take between 1-2 weeks. So if this is the case stated by the company itself then how could an order placed on line at 7 pm on a Friday night going into a 3 day weekend not be cancelled? Well it wasn't and the other set purchased was invoiced improperly and stated that 3 pieces needed to be picked up at their store in NYC so again with no live customer service or even email response within hours, I drive 1-5 hours into Manhattan to get to the bottom of the matter. My wife accompanied me since parking is almost impossible. After getting to the store which was filled with Gen Z employees dressed in black with headsets on but no purchasing customers, I waited 20 minutes for the employees to figure out what was going on. Finally it was discovered that the invoicing was wrong and all pieces were to be shipped. If a customer service employee has returned my question about needing to go to the store then I wouldn't have wasted over 4 hours round trip. So then what? The NEXT DAY luggage arrived and the monogrammed pieces were in the wrong color thread and the pieces were In polycarbonate and NOT ALUMINUM. The day after, I received 2 emails stating my order has shipped and again multiple emails and all wrong. Now ALUMINUM pieces are on their way and maybe replacement monogrammed soft pieces in the other (corrected color) thread but sine THEIR IS ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL, AND I MEAN NONE, the situation is still fluid without even knowing what is being shipped, have corrections been made and lastly how do I process returns if the incorrect pieces? The company states that they have an unconditional 100 day return policy fully paid for so this part of the battle has not begun as of yet. I don't even know what will show up on my credit card purchases since they bill when items are shipped but of course this has not been correct either. We are awaiting the outcome of this fiasco while counting down our departure to China in 10 days and without all pieces needed. We haven't packed nor used the luggage yet and hopefully the quality will allow no further needed contact with this ABYSMALLY RUN COMPANY. If you just need to purchase a piece of luggage and can buy on line WITHOUT ANY QUESTIONS OR POSSIBLE NEED OF ANY LIVE HUMAN BEING OR CUSTOMER SERVICE NEED THEN MAYBE TAKE THE GAMBLE but when spending this kind of money k in this type of economy, let the buyer beware. If I had a choice of this luggage versus the next company reviewed and the other was close or just as good, I would RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION IF "AWAY" as fast as U could to the other brand. The nightmare continues... As of Sunday 2/26/23 we have received multiple extra pieces of the aluminum shell luggage and expect the company will attempt to dump as many pieces out the door that they can and get away with it. All card compare now aware of "Away" and are running internal checks. I expect to go to small claims court to put an end to this companies business practices and WARN EVERYONE to take note of this experience because it could be you. Yay, I just received the bag! If it wasn't for him, I would of walked "Away" and never purchased it. I saw something I liked online and wanted to see in person. A second I walked in, a saleswoman told me the procedure to shop with unwelcome manner. She repeatedly spoke to me with a tone as if I don't belong there. I asked her the bag I was looking for. She had no idea what I was asking for. I showed her a photo and asked if she can find, but she seemed she was not willing to help me. I almost left this point. Since I was already there, so I decided to browse. I asked her another question for the item on display. She answered with irritation & almost with an anger, so that point I said I don't need her help, then asked another person, Kim. He was very pleasant & helpful. He checked on the item I was originally looking for. Unfortunately it was sold out. I bought in another color which was also sold out in the store, but he ordered it for me. This is my first visit to the store and first shopping experience since pandemic started. I was very excited to shop again, then Stephanie made it very unpleasant experience and also disappointed to be treated less. Alarming Lack of Custom Service/Communication My return/exchange process started well over a month ago. Communication from customer service has been sparse and then incomplete information provided. I finally recieved a return label and have tracked the item as recieved at Away HQ. This was two weeks ago and no response or update as to receipt of item or when I will receive my exchange item. I never write reviews, and I'm a very reasonable person, I've never experienced worse customer service. I haven't even received my bag yet, but after this, I'm probably just going to return my bag. I ordered a bag with 2-day shipping (an extra $50), after my bag was damaged on a work trip. After receiving my tracking number on the next day, I assumed all was well and that I would receive it within the next 2 days, however, when the tracking number finally showed a delivery date, it was well passed the time I would be heading back home and no longer at the delivery address. I tried for MULTIPLE days to get both Away and UPS to redirect it to my home address but the only thing they said was to go to UPS MyChoice and change the delivery.... UPS didn't give me that option, so I called them TWICE and they said that only the sender can change the delivery address...... so I went back to Away's ridiculous chat-only customer service AGAIN, they tell me to change it with UPS and that they can't do anything... so now my luggage has been delivered to an address that I'm no longer at. They won't refund the $50 expedited shipping charge, or let me speak with a manager and I now have to pay extra money to get it shipped back home to New York. And all they said is.. "Let me make a follow-up on this concern to our management. However, we are unable to guarantee that this will be considered. I will send you a follow-up email, once they receive your concern, they will get back to you over email." Thank you, Away, for the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Love my new carry-on but hated my purchasing experience in store. I had already browsed through their selection online so I knew exactly which carry-on I wanted, but was still a bit indecisive on the color. My friend and I arrived on a Friday afternoon and there were 4-5 sales people scattered throughout the store. Upon arrival, we received no greeting or acknowledgment whatsoever. We figured they were busy with their own work and other customers so we browsed around and patiently waited by the couches. However, more time passed and the workers were just talking amongst themselves by the counter. Since we were being disregarded, I took the initiative to approach one of the sales people and asked for assistance to purchase. He made me feel like I was a nuisance. It's understandable that sometimes you have customers who ask for over the top things and end up not purchasing items, but I've already informed him that I WILL be getting the suitcase today. But throughout the whole transaction, his attitude towards me was very unhelpful, monotone, and rude. It was unexpected and uncalled for, especially since he had been so helpful to the customer he was assisting prior to me. If I had walked into the store without reading up on the suitcases online, I wouldn't have known about the wonderful perks the AWAY carry-on had to offer, because he definitely didn't inform me. My friend was considering purchasing a suitcase as well, but because of the poor service, she decided against it. On a brighter note, the carry-on is wonderful! Extremely questionable business and marketing practices. Away Travel only allows customers that enjoyed their product to post public reviews on their site, as opposed to companies who allow all customers to create reviews. This creates false and misleading representations of the quality of the products. I purchased the FAR 26L backpack that was faulty due to their manufacturing and design, and Away refused to both replace the bag and allow me to review the product online. The straps of the FAR 26L backpack are painful, uncomfortable, and uneven. I have purchased products from here that worked out decently before, but now that I know they have shady and untrustworthy marketing strategies and don't support their customers, I will definitely think twice about shopping here again. read more

Product review is as a result of island hopping in Greece for two weeks on our honeymoon- bags used: The Carry On (smaller), The Medium In Coast blue & The Backpack. 1- The Actual Location: Excellent Service. The staff is friendly and helpful! They really do stand by the 100 return policy with no questions asked. If you live in NYC, I recommend seeing the bags in person here before making your decision. 2- The Product: So many mixed emotions! Let me break them down for you because most of the articles out there are paid ads that just talk up the features of the bag. And the "critic" reviews are pretty abusive if you ask me.... - Aesthetics: (5/5)- AWAY nailed it with the concept of simple, clean lined, colorful luggage in an Instagram-driven age. These bags look damn good. My only wish is more bold/fun colors, please! - Functionality (4/5)- The clamshell design makes it very easy to keep organized no matter how long the trip is. One side is meant to keep bulky or loose items contained. They did NOT budge. The other side is perfect for softer items like clothing. The center piece was perfect for strapping the clothes down and had a zipper pouch that was perfect for undergarments. A separate laundry bag kept our bag smelling fresh even when our clothes did not... the squarish shape of the luggage made it easy to pack- especially for those living by the konmari method. The locks were very handy, especially in situations where we felt a little uneasy leaving our bags alone. Finally, the reason for knocking off a star... the wheels and handles weren't the best. I'd give them (2/5). The wheels were only quiet on VERY smooth surfaces like the airport floor. The second they touched the sidewalk, the world knew that we were on the move! Tourist Alert! I traditionally use Samsonite-AWAY take notes because their wheels are lovely. As for the handles... well let's move on to the next portion of the review... - Quality: (3/5)- a) The outer shell material is a nice sturdy quality. No problems yet. Yes, they do get marks. I really don't know what luggage doesn't. I believe these bags just show it more because they have such clean lines. If you care about scuffs, don't get white (DUH) b) Zippers. Not the best zippers I've ever used but above average functionality. I didn't feel resistance. Smooth gliding and worked really well the lock. However- One of them already chipped- not cool, man... c) Locks were excellent quality, appreciative of this feature. Again, please refer to Samsonite Pro DLX handles- their handles make you WANT to lift and drag your bag The pulling handle is by far the WORST I've ever tested. It's very rickety- It feels as though it's going to break any minute. It's VERY hard to begin pulling out because of the design of the button. And after you do actually press the button, it's not a smooth transition when elongating- Very clunky. This is with and without a full bag. As for the BACKPACK, (5/5)I couldn't say enough things. The material is lightweight. Perfect amount of space to fit travel essentials inside. Fits nicely under the seat in front of you. Zippers are perfect, nice quality. Logo isn't invasive and VERY thoughtful features. There's a pocket for EVERYTHING which really helps you keep organized on the move. I've used it plenty in my personal life too. Despite the lifetime warranty (which I really don't want to deal with a busted bag), I'm really not into the handle situation... 90% chance these will end up being returned for that reason. Came here to check out luggage a while ago before purchasing. The store is small and when I went, there were quite a bit of people. The salespeople are pretty busy but if you're just trying to get a look of the product before purchase, I'd highly recommend checking the store out beforehand. While I initially LOVED my away suitcase, here are some issues that I have encountered after owning it for almost a year. 1. This suitcase scratches VERY easily. My friend purchased the dark color and the scratches are SO visible. I have a beige one so it's a bit better, but the suitcase quickly wears down and ends up looking so so so cheap because of the material of the hard shell. 2. Very sad that they don't have an options to switch colors. It made me feel as though purchasing the suitcase at the time I did was a very bad decision. 3. The handle is VERY thin. Wheels are SOOOOO nice, but unfortunately the handle makes it a bit hard to use because it feels so flimsy, especially when your suitcase is really heavy. 4. Not a lot of space - while the organizer/separator and the laundry bag really helps you to keep things tidy, this suitcase does lack space. My friend has a carry on of the same size but different brand (hard case as well) and it can fit so many more things than my away. Overall, if you are a frequent traveler, I'd recommend purchasing a different suitcase. If you travel once in a while, I do think the away luggage is a nice affordable option. As a consultant, I was looking for a ~ beautiful ~ luggage that was also functional. I personally do love the charger that it comes with though and as I mentioned, the wheels are really nice. However, the other elements just don't match up and I feel that there are better options out there. If you're into the life time warranty, as I was, I've come to realize that the likelihood that my suitcase will legitimately break enough that it is covered under the warranty is quite rare. Rather, it will just wear away (not a pun!!) but still not worn enough to replace. It all started about a few months ago when my cousin sent me a screen shot of an Instagram pic of this cool looking luggage with a usb charger. She knows that i travel often and I have 2 cell phones that need full batteries..lol. I mean WTH..who doesnt need juice for their cellphones while on the go. She then sent me the link for this jewel..I saved it and vowed to get it as I really needed it..not just wanted it but NEED it. It fit all of the required features for luggage that fit my NEEDS. Low and behold, this morning I received an email from AWAY with a gift card. When I clicked the link for AWAY..I was blown the F*ck AWAY.. *excuse my French* You can only imagine my surprise when I saw that my cousin got me the most thoughtful gift card EVERRRR. I immediately sent her a thousand text messages of AWE and GRATEFULNESS !!! I went on the site and was SO INDECISIVE. Can I say excitement is an understatement on how I felt all day knowing that I was getting something this special. I travel ALOT and good luggage is key for me. Should I get the carry on or the bigger carry on...I couldn't make up my mind. I measured my current luggage dimensions to try to compare and it was smaller than both of AWAY's carry ons. I was really confused on what to choose. I decided to go to the store in SoHo after work to see the diamonds in person and to make my purchase. When I opened the door to the store- I was greeted with smiles and immediate attention. Great Customer Service! I read and heard that the customer service was on point and they already one me over. I explained what I needed and the salesman graciously assisted me. He asked me questions to ascertain what my needs were so that he could recommend what would be best for be. I appreciated that!!! I decided on the carry on- They rung me up and as I was looking down at the luggage I changed my mind and went with the bigger carry on. I felt good with this decision. I apologized to everyone for me being so indecisive and they reassured me that it was no problem and from what I stated about my needs- I made the right chose. Also, if I'm not satisfied- I have 100 days to bring it back. What could be better than that!!!
