Award Music specializes in the sales, rentals, and repairs of musical equipment including, but not limited to: school band equipment, guitars, drums, amps, accessories, etc. Award Music features an onsite repair shop, with trained and NAPBIRT certified technicians. Our friendly staff will help you track down whatever it is you need! If we can't get it, or don't have it, we'll even tell you where you can find it!!
History
Established in 2002.
Award Music was founded by David and Linda Washburn in January of 2002. The doors officially opened on April 1, 2002. Over the next 9 years, David and Linda worked to build the business on customer service. In August of 2011, they sold the business to Ellis Smith, who was store manager at the time. Ellis has worked to maintain the foundation established by the Washburn's, but has also worked to expand the business into other fields, and brands. David is still involved in the repair side of the business.
Meet the Business Owner: Ellis S.
Ellis began working for Award Music in February 2004. Despite having very little musical background Ellis learned quickly, and, during his time in the store, has learned to play Alto Saxophone, Acoustic Guitar, and Bass Guitar. Ellis was promoted to sales manager in 2009. In August 2011 Ellis took over the everyday operations of Award Music, acquiring the business from David Washburn.
Ellis attended Kaufman ISD, but transferred to Terrell ISD during his freshman year of high school. Shortly thereafter, he left public school and enrolled in home schooling, where he graduated in 2002. Ellis currently owns 4 instruments: a Belmonte Saxophone, a Ventura Acoustic Guitar, a Dean "Studio" Acoustic Guitar, and a Yamaha BBass Guitar.
Ellis' favorite styles of music are: Rock, Alternative, Blues, and (Traditional) Jazz. His favorite band is Breaking Benjamin.
