We tasted each other's breakfast and admired how very good it was also, but chose to eat what we ordered! :) I know you cannot fall in love with food... but hear me out! The brussels were not simply chopped. Nope. The care to peal them apart leaf by leaf, and cook them just enough before adding the parm and smoked bacon... OMG! I cannot wait to go back. I didn't know this place existed until I found myself downtown looking for a brunch place. As a self professed foodie this place did not disappoint! The fruit was fresh. The vibe was there, the place was clean, the staff is friendly and that food!!! (Insert drool here) if you can't decide? Go to Babo! Yup. #fave.new.food

I assume there is a wait on weekends. Greeted by friendly staff quickly and offered a menu to pursue. Selections covered all the basic brunch items without being "too much." The ambience is warm and casual though ambient noise makes quiet conversation a challenge. Our server appeared to be newer and somewhat nervous so there was not much chitchat. Babo does not offer decaf coffee, a big disappointment. I settled for tea. The server was not aware of this decaf option until I asked. Our food came quickly although it was not super warm for either one of us. The syrup for the waffle was very cold, also a disappointment. Other than these two drawbacks, the flavors were wonderful and the pricing seems right in line for this area. Babo is a solid brunch choice in this are. We always look forward to our visits.

The interior does look nice, they updated it a lot but still kept some of the wood features from before, which I liked. That said, the service and overall customer experience definitely needs improvement. We stood in the lobby for quite a while with no clear direction. It wasn't obvious whether we were supposed to wait somewhere specific or if a hostess was coming, so there was a lot of confusion until someone finally let us know there was a wait. Once we were seated, it also took a long time for our waitress to come over. By the time she did, we'd already had plenty of time to look over the menu and knew exactly what we wanted. When I asked a few questions while placing my order, she seemed a bit irritated, which didn't feel very welcoming. As for the food, everything on the menu felt overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. We ordered a variety of items to try different things. The cinnamon sweet potato pancakes were definitely the standout, they were really good. The grits bowl was good, However, the biscuits and gravy were disappointing. It was just one biscuit for $6, no meat at all, and the gravy tasted a bit off. Overall, the pricing for breakfast felt steep, and I was honestly a little taken aback by it. The mimosas were delicious, but again, not quite worth the price point for me. Nothing I had really stood out enough to make me feel like I have to come back for it, which was disappointing because I wanted to love this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong things, so I might give it another try to see what the hype is about, but as of now, it was just okay. Solid three stars.

I later found out the area serves two purposes...1. a huge farmers market on Saturdays and 2. a big safe area for tailgaters for the sports teams. The servers and cooks were A1. It was quiet, but I'm sure on other days it probably gets a little loud. Overall, this reminded me of the 'greasy spoon' restaurants along the highways that have really good food. Except in this case the food was good and no greasy spoons anywhere, lol. I would definitely come back here for breakfast or even lunch (menu look yummy) if ever back in Detroit. Oh, I had a delicious and well seasoned turkey burger and crispy fries.

Also ordered a Greek salad with feta on the side, they would not allow me to get a turkey Reuben, because it's not on the menu as such, even though they offer a turkey avocado melt. $49.29 Guess I will only be eating a salad for lunch today then. We will have to go elsewhere then. They only allow you to order off the menu on the weekends as is, seems rather rigid. This is a first to be told that a place doesn't want my money for a turkey Rueben when the beef version is on the menu and they have turkey sandwiches as well. Odd that my hubby's plain black coffee comes in a styrofoam cup, my green tea is in the usual expected ceramic mug. My husband will wait for a ceramic cup. The extremely rude waitress brought out a ceramic mug, after I asked for a ceramic mug. She made us feel most unwelcome during our entire visit. The staff member that brought us our food and brought me the Greek dressing were much more pleasant and warm. They do charge you for using a credit card here, around 4%, of course they do. Seems kind of high for a CC charge. Huevos isn't bad. They only gave us three flour tortillas. My husband wanted one more, but this place is so cheap, so we figured they would charge us for that, since they don't allow for any substitutes of ingredients or charging just an up charge instead of charging for full price item sides. Got the Greek salad, but no dressing at all. Am I supposed to eat this thing dry? I had to ask another waitress for some dressing 7 minutes later, since our waitress had no clue she hadn't brought any dressing at all. The red onions look so old and are thick cut rings, tossed them on the side. The tomatoes aren't ripe. Salad core in the salad. At least they use Romaine, spinach and greens. Salad is not special, dressing tastes like ranch with some beet juice added to it. Green tea is meh, coffee too. I believe our waitress needs some retraining on her job, she's not so good at it. Our waitress never checked on us once after the order and bringing our coffee and tea. She couldn't be bothered it seems. Not a good experience today at all, made worse by our main waitress. Odd her name is Tootsie, would have thought she would be a tad nicer though. Huevos was decent. Greek is worth a pass. Try to get anyone else but Tootsie, unless you like being treated indifferently and invisible.

We ended up going to Cornbread and it was a total disappointment. We've already been to Lilly Mae's so let's see what Joe Louis has going on. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and thankfully it wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. It's a lively vibe inside, and the 70's Motown music had me going down memory lane. They also have lighted up faux trees, and pictures of Joe Louis adoring the walls. We ordered the seafood skillet, fish sandwich with delicious seasoned fries, side of fried shrimp, banana foster, and banana pudding, Mannnnnn, everything was delicious and we can't wait to return in the near future.
