Couldn't say enough great things! We were seen immediately. The staff was amazing. The care was stellar! Thank you for caring for our Enzo.

I have never in my life experienced such an unprofessional and careless veterinary office. I had to…read moretake my 6-month-old puppy to another emergency hospital less than eight hours after leaving this one because his condition rapidly declined. My dog was having a clear negative reaction to a toxin, and we were in this hospital for less than 30 minutes. The "doctor" took him to the back, glanced at him, and made a guess based on something they assumed was from his past. There was no additional testing, no further investigation, and no effort to confirm the diagnosis. I learned later that day that their assumption was completely wrong. By the time we reached the second emergency hospital, my puppy was experiencing tremors, seizures, instability, and could barely walk. Even worse, his gums were pale while we were still at the first hospital, and they didn't even give basic supportive care like IV fluids. What makes this even more disappointing is the interaction I had later that day with the receptionist. When I called--scared, confused, and simply trying to confirm the doctor's notes--she was inconsiderate, defensive, and extremely unprofessional. Instead of listening to a worried pet parent, she acted like a snarky child, cutting me off, speaking short, and giving attitude as if my questions were an inconvenience. It is terrifying that this is one of the only emergency hospitals within a reasonable distance, because the level of care we received was unacceptable. As a pet parent, I rely on trained professionals to guide me--especially when I'm not educated in veterinary medicine. Having to fully trust a medical team that provided such minimal, dismissive, and incomplete care of a 6-month-old puppy is beyond concerning. For an emergency/surgery-focused facility, you would expect attention to detail, urgency, and compassion. What we experienced was the exact opposite. This could have cost my puppy his life.

I just took Kira to have an exam and the bill was $505.35. The exam was maximum 10 minutes, it cost $113. She also had blood work done which she didn't need because of the throat diagnosis she was given that has nothing to do with blood values so the vet shouldn't have suggested it. I said yes to the bloodwork, I would have said no if I had known the cost- $392.22. I feel taken advantage of. So- I've learned the lesson that I need to ask for itemized costs first before I agree to any treatment here. ***** 5/21/24 The care Kira has received at VCA has been exemplary. I am glad I can consolidate all her care to one facility- general care, neurology- Kira had back surgery- and emergency.

The neurologist was great, very attentive, and asked that I update her via email whenever my pup had a seizure. Then, in May 2025, she took a planned 6-month leave. I found out through an automated email when I wrote to report seizure activity as instructed. There was no backup in place, prescriptions could not be refilled, and I was told to find another neurologist without a referral. I found this to be completely irresponsible and a disservice to their patients. The neurologist is now back from leave, and I have called and not received a response or follow-up. They have likely lost more patients than just us. When I called the emergency line last night for guidance on a particularly bad seizure, I was bluntly told they were at capacity (so don't come in) and to call another ER (the ER they told me to call also could not help me). I have had other good ER experiences at VCA in the past, and do not know what has changed to make good service and care nonexistent. So don't waste your precious time and your pet's care on this practice. Try Piper Memorial in Middletown or Guardian in Brewster, NY.

We have two large senior dogs, one with ongoing medical issues and the entire team is always so kind and understanding. They are reasonably priced and never try to push "extras" on us. They always take the time to explain any diagnosis, treatments & next step options. We recently had to say goodbye to one of our dogs. The staff had us enter through a private entrance, which gave us a little comfort during such a sad time. Dr Begg was incredible. he explained every step of the process while being patient, understanding and so kind. We are so grateful for the support and compassion we received.

I was a healthcare worker in New York City at the time, but originally am from Connecticut. Due to the COVID surge in NYC, I was routinely working 80-100 hour weeks. After several months, started noticing that my cat was not acting like herself. I thought something serious might be happening I rushed her straight to Roaring Brook, where I had previously got my vet care, because I knew I could 100% trust them. Long story short, it turns out she was eating my hair ties and had an obstruction. They were able to take her into surgery the next day and save her life. They were also very non judgmental about it, which I appreciated because I felt absolutely terrible about the whole ordeal and felt like the worst cat mom in existence. I am happy to report that 2 and a half years later she is 100% recovered and her normal, happy self. I cannot be more grateful to Roaring Brook for saving her, and am super vigilant about my hair ties now. She is expected to live a full, happy life.

They were able to do the routine stuff however their ability for anything beyond yearly check up is severely lacking. We had 2 pets there, first a chocolate lab that was a senior, over 10 years old. They were alright, however Dr Dan saw him once and scared us so bad said he had some kind of heart issue and we may need to get him to an emergency vet ASAP, then came back and said he was fine. We did have him looked at an emergency vet and they could find nothing wrong with him. We let that slide, unprofessional and poor bedside manors but whatever. Then about a year later, just this past February, he was very lethargic and having issues, we called and they said it didn't seem like an emergency and they can get him in about 3 weeks. We decided to go to the emergency vet and in a matter of hours he was gone, I understand how busy it can get but the amount they just shrugged us off was disappointing for being with them for so long. Also he was on prescription food, they refused to give the prescription to Chewy and required we go through their own online store. We did, after he passed we got another delivery of his food, a few weeks later we called and asked about a refund in which they said they do not have a process to refund orders for pets who have passed. I explained to them how Chewy handles that situation, I spoke with Devon, he seemed nice however never actually called me back and gave me an answer one way or the other. I called him back again, he said he was "still working on it" and would get back to me by the end of the day. That was 3 days ago and no word at all. Mind you I was asking for a $130 refund after spending $3160 with them in a matter of 4 weeks. Not long after this our other dog, an 8 year old boxer mix needed a mole removed. They performed the operation and from there it went down hill quick. He developed a severe infection close to where the operation was, we brought him back, they did a quick test and gave us an antibiotic. He did not get better at all and kept getting worse, we went back there paid over $600 for additional tests were given a different antibiotic but still having issues. We called this morning to ask about a different form of medicine, maybe a compounded liquid. You would have thought I asked them to launch a space shuttle, nobody had any idea and "needed to consult the vet and get back to us". It took 3 hours to get a call back and they said try hiding the pill in a marshmallow, that was literally their only response. I expressed kindly that I feel my pet is not getting the care he needs and expressed my dissatisfaction that they seem to just just guessing at things and effectively throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. After I expressed that they then said they can send over a prescription to a pharmacy in southington but I was not able to get the prescription myself. They then followed up with an email giving me the pharmacy info and the info of other emergency vet offices and said we should consider a different vet. This was not an issue because I was already looking for a different one. Overall they seem like at best the practice is poorly managed, the doctors and also front desk associates seem to never actually know what's going on or provide any kind of useful information. Honestly the techs that work there are the only bright spot and must be what is keeping them in business. If you need just a basic checkup and "tech" appointment they are alright, if you need an actual vet / doctor appointment unfortunately they seem to not have the skill and ability to properly care for pets beyond the very basics. Overall a very expensive and disappointing experience and worst of all I believe both of my pets received poor care which created more issues and suffering for them.

She gave us a ton of information, told us where she would be the next day with phone number of the other store so we could reach out to her with any additional questions. She actually just texted me with pictures of the parents of the goldendoodle we purchased (it's after 7pm). I did call the store one day when Allison was out and Pete answered the phone, he wanted to know how the dog was doing, said he has been with the store for decades and if we need anything to just call him. GREAT STAFF. We were talking to some breeders directly and the communication was horrible. Gary has some great employees. Even the woman who bathed and did our dog's claws after purchase clearly LOVED dogs. Very positive store experience. The Neutral: My dog, as others have mentioned was timid and easily startled when first home, but I think that's normal. He's only 10 weeks old, arrived from Missouri only a week before. That's a lot of changes for a little guy. So we have been making sure to keep the house a little quieter and trying to not make noise when he is eating. Basically like the instructions from Gary (Owner) say, no playing or excitement for 3 days. It's day 3 now and the dog (Reilly) is really much more active, running around the house, eating better, and seems to be adapting well to us and the house. The unexpected: Day 3, the little guy seems to have developed a cough. Could be from the stress of the move, he didn't seem to have this when we brought him home. I spoke to Allison about this and was told we would be reimbursed if we were unable to get back up to CT to see their Vet. (We are an hour away). Update: He seems a little better today, he has his check-in/check-up anyway so we just moved up the date at the vet to make sure he's on the right track. I am sure he will be fine. The less positive: When we originally called on the phone, we were told one general price from the Owner for the dogs were were interested in. At checkout the dog price increased more than 50%. We were able to negotiate, but we felt it could have been handled better. The only reason we feel we didn't overpay is because the service and aftercare have been wonderful. And when you get a 10-11 week old baby, believe me you will have questions. This is my third dog, but I quickly realized pups this young are infants, more vulnerable, do more dumb things, eating well and not getting sick is really important.
