Used Avis in Westport (located at the Westport Train Station) for a three-week rental and had a good experience overall. The price was competitive, and the staff was responsive and accommodating when I needed to extend the rental. The selection of cars was just OK, but they had what I needed. The car itself was clean and worked perfectly. It did have a few cosmetic issues, but those were clearly pointed out before I was given the keys. My only real complaint was the office, which was incredibly hot. Surely they need an air conditioner for the summer! Otherwise, a pretty straightforward rental experience. read more

Customer beware. Seemingly nice upfront but will gauge you for anything and everything once you drop off the car and process your return. ASK all questions and ensure they review the contract with you thoroughly. They are a slippery bunch so head to other locations if possible. If you're stuck using this location... cross your T's and dot your i's. Surprised Avis hasn't shut this location down. It's killing their brand locally. This location is great but don't be ripped off by Avis. There is the option to lock in a rate by paying for the reservation in advance- don't do it! I did and then got an email offer for the same exact location, same car, same dates, but $150 less. 5 calls to their 800 number.... they refused to give me their own lower rate. I was told the lower rate is not available been though I was looking at it on my screen. I was advised to make a new reservation at the lower rtate and then call back to cancel the first one, but then told if I did that the original reservation would not be refunded. One operator even said, "You're just trying to get a better rate." Well, YES. Buyer beware. read more

Amazing service by an Avis rep named Qas (Koz) in Westport CT. On the phone and in person, Qas was so helpful. He connected my phone to Google maps and Apple CarPlay to render instruction to my destination. I had not driven a rental car in an unfamiliar area in many years and was rather apprehensive. He was so kind, caring and accommodating that it made a huge difference in the success of my trip. Prior to my return trip, I was not able to get the system connected, and he talked me through setup over the phone. I would have been so lost with his assistance. Any business that cares about its customers should hire employees like Qas - a very rare breed. read more

I rented a car at this location today, i had reserved a full size car. The guy at the counter says nothing and gives me a Nissan Sentra. When I said that wasn't a full size, he insisted it was. I checked the budget website on my phone and it clearly says Nissan Altima is full size. I pointed it out, and he tried to wriggle out in a lame way by saying " we consider Sentra full size" or some BS like that. Then he wants to charge me the same amount for the downgrade because 'i had made a booking and he couldn't change it'. Then he suggests that I take a minivan! I had a fit and he finally relented. I didn't expect this crooked cheating mentality from Budget especially in high end location like Westport. Needless to say i'm never renting from this location again. T read more

I had a reservation for a car and when I showed up to pick it up the employee behind the counter said he had no cars. He blamed Covid for the fact that he had no cars. I said I'm not sure how you can blame Covid for the fact that you didn't call me to tell me you had no cars before I made the hour long drive there. Customer Service was terrible. They didn't offer any assistance or guidance to help solve the issue. Really problematic if Reservations made months in advance with careful planning are worthless. read more

Stay away from this place at all costs. Ali Sultan is the supposed manager who will not honor any internet pricing and will also sneak in additional costs. When I asked about the charges, he just said they were already paid and to call the Avis 1-800 number as this was Avis' policy. When I spoke with their national customer service they rectified all the problems and quadruple charges. The most horrible car rental experience. They know not many other car rental agencies exist in Westport so they treat their customers like crap! Extremely scummy and dishonorable. read more

Horrible! Scummy little office next to the station. I had reserved a car, but none were available when I arrived. Another guy came into the office after me and faced the same problem. When I asked "how can you not have cars when we made reservations?" the member of staff shrugged and explained that it happens all the time. Called the AVIS helpline and they told us that there were 5 cars there in the lot (according to their computer system) - there were none, but they refused to believe us! I use this dealership often! And by often I mean at least once a month. I have never had an issue. The staff has always been pleasant and efficient. It's too bad the others writing reviews had bad experiences. I prefer this location to a much larger on at a major train station only a few towns away. The WORST car rental place!!! I wouldn't even give them a star if I could. Will never even attempt to rent from budget and especially not this location. Made a reservation and when we arrived, after sitting in traffic for 30 minutes the guy working told us although we had a reservation, they did not have any cars. He said "I was supposed to call you and let you know but I didn't," then proceeded to be so rude. He does not know how to treat customers or people in general. I asked to see if he could see if another location had a car and he said he can't. He didn't even apologize or attempt to make the situation right. I called customer service where the woman I spoke to apologized and tried to get me a car from the Fairfield location, the only thing was that they would not match the price of the reservation I had yet it is the same company, getting the car from Fairfield was a $200 price difference, she told me that I could to the location directly and see if they could provide me with a car for the price I had the reservation for since they had cars available at that location. After waiting for 30 minutes at the fairfield location since there was only one person working, the woman told me that they didn't have any cars available either and wouldn't for another 3 hours and if I could wait till then, I replied that I couldn't since I had already pushed back my trip by a few hours wasting time going to the Westport location. I left and went to enterprise where they were so accommodating and nice. The gentleman that assisted us was great, not only did he match the price of the reservation we had after explaining to him what happened, he found us a better deal!! Needless to say I will rent from enterprise from now on, I should've gone to them from the beginning. read more

I rented a Dodge minivan from this place today and the two other reviews on here had me second guessing myself before I prepaid for the car. I'm glad I went ahead with my plans anyway (I didn't have much choice as I really needed to rent a car in Westport), because the guy behind the counter was very helpful and friendly. Also, I wouldn't call it a "scummy little office" as one reviewer said. Don't get me wrong, it isn't anything special, but it serves its purpose and is perfectly clean. I was in and out of the place in 10 minutes. The minivan was in perfect condition and was exactly what I needed. I was moving stuff from Westport all the way down to DC, but not enough stuff to hire movers or even waste my time with a uhaul. I figured a minivan would do the trick and it certainly did. All of the seats folded into the floor without any trouble and I could have fit even more stuff in the van if I needed to. It also drove like a dream (I never saw myself as a minivan guy - ugh - but this experience has me (maybe) reconsidering my stance). Anyway, one last comment about the customer service - I was really late for my noon reservation arriving around 2pm. The gentleman assisting me greeted me with a smile when I gave him my name and politely said "I was worried you might not make it before we closed and I was just about to call you and make sure you knew we closed at 4 on Sundays." Perhaps a courtesy call like that is just standard practice, but it was very reassuring and the opposite of what I was expecting based on the other two reviews. read more
