First of all, I've never given a 1 star review ever on this app. And before I get into this, not all Avis locations are built the same. I've only ever had very good experiences with them at airports. This location is understaffed. Every time I've been in here people have to wait an extremely long time to get there. They don't have a healthy stock of vehicles almost ever. And every person I've encountered in there has had a tough time with the process of getting a vehicle. It's unfortunate since I'm a preferred member and again, I back Avis locations elsewhere. But if you can go to a neighboring rental service I would recommend that here in San Juan. Cheers. read more

I made the mistake of renting from Avis again as their rate was competitive. Sadly, when I returned the car, the agent had left the office (which he locked) and I had to stand outside waiting for his return. He wasn't using the bathroom and just said he had things to do, so I had to stand there and wait up to 15 minutes. I returned the car, got a paper receipt, and, notwithstanding, Avis online changed the amount and charged me more than $20 extra. I had a paper receipt for the correct amount and Avis just charges my credit card for more than that. So I was yet again forced to call Avis, wait on hold for an extended period of time, and talk to a lifeless customer service representative who couldn't do math and literally I asked to calculate the exact amount of the overcharge. Returned our rental yesterday (14th Friday) at 3:30pm. No one was at the location and there was a sign that said they were out to wash a car and would be back in 15minutes. Waited for over 45minutes, no one showed up. I called their customer service and mentioned the situation and I had to leave bc we just moved out of state and had a ride waiting on me. I told them that I would leave the car parked and locked and would return the keys first thing tomorrow morning. The rep told me that I would be responsible if anything happened to the car. I asked to speak with manager and they had me on hold for a long time. It is unacceptable to only have one person on staff at any location. read more

Worst car rental experience ever! Stay away from these people. I was forced to upgrade as Aya stated that there were no other cars. She then stated that I would have to pay for the upgrade! The initial upgrade cost was ~$350. When I protested she lowered it to $248. The original reservation cost was to be $181.95. ....the story goes on and on like a bad dream.... In the end I called Corporate Avis and Costco Travel for resolution. Unscrupulous; Recommend you beware and use only as a last resort. Unfortunately, I was in an accident in which the rental vehicle was totaled (hit a stray cow). I maintained responsibility for vehicle damages, and claims were settled. However, I obviously could not return the car. First, they didn't even give me a detailed billing before running the charge through against my credit card. They STILL haven't provided me an invoice directly. I had to get information from my credit card company's dispute file. They took possession of the vehicle on October 7, but are charging me through October 13. They increased the contract's weekly rate from just over $300 to over $500. They charged me over $200 for one-half tank of gas (about 7 gallons) that I had not refilled before hitting the cow. Owner refused to talk with me. In the "supporting documents" that they submitted on two occasions they couldn't even identify the correct location of the rental or accident (missed by over 150 miles once and 500 miles the second time) All-in-all billing is over $1,200 that what I owe based on THEIR RENTAL CONTRACT. Wow! Never coming back here. Extremely rude when I was trying to be helpful and not willing to help. I was charged double what was on my invoice because it was "an hour" late. But the reality was they called me the day before and said come in before noon even though my pickup was at noon since they take the last customer at 1145. I told them that was fine, ill come earlier so that they don't have to wait for me. Then, they call me for the drop off and say the same thing, I need to drop off before noon. I get there at 1145 and it says out for 15 min on the door. They finally open the door and say I am late and I was charged double my invoice amount. They said they can't help and I need to call the help line. I have 2 kids under 2 so calls are not easy to make. Very frustrating and I honestly thought I was helping. A friend of mine referred me to this location and I have been renting from here consistently for work trips ever since. They have an amazing team here- Jackie, Christina, and Joanna - very quick response and extremely pleasant, they work with me on pricing as well for being a regular. My sister was very particular about rental insurance and made me as tons of questions, they tirelessly walked us through different options and help us find the proper one for our road trip. They also offer drop offs & pick ups because my office is in Irvine (with a small fee). And a couple times I forgot to refuel, they reminded me and gave me a chance to add gas in without penalty. Rented standard car through Costco website. As I was driving over there I received a call from one of the employees informing me that they were out of the car that I had reserved and I should not come as they only had suvs in stock, I explained Im already in an uber on my way and we'll discuss the options on my arrival. Once I arrived she told me that it would be an extra 17$ a day I was surprised on the cost increase as usually they just give you the upgrade at no additional cost as they have made a mistake booking a car they don't have in stock. We negotiated for about 5 mins and I paid an additional 5$ a day. Witch isn't to bad. Overall I think the experience could have been handle in a Better way than telling me not to come when I'm 5 mins away and then up charging me. read more

My friends and I went on a road trip to San Francisco and decided to rent a car. The car we rented was much nicer than anticipated and I've rented a lot of cars in my time. The employees were very helpful and knowledgeable. It was import to me to get everything done quickly so we could hit the road and lucky for me this spot is a hidden gem with none of the usual you book a car and they don't have it tactics other car rental places pull. As a travel junkie this is now my go to spot for rentals! We had a reservation (already pre-paid and everything) for two cars for 330 PM pickup. Due to delays at the airport and traffic we didn't make it to the rental location until 5:07 PM. The rental desk was empty and the only person working the desk at this location had left for the day. Given that we had this reservation and already pre-paid, would have appreciated a courtesy call to check in and see if we were still planning to pick up the vehicles before departing for the day. I recently rented a car at Avis in San Juan Capistrano. They had just relocated from across the street and have a new team running the office. I originally chose Avis because they were the only car rental place around that was open on Memorial Day Monday. When I arrived, my car was ready for me in front of the office. The staff was incredibly friendly and got me in and out in less than fifteen minutes. They reminded me several times to make sure that I fill the tank so that I don't get charged for them to re-fill it once returned. I chose an economy vehicle and received a newer Dodge Dart. The car was excellent and truly felt brand new. If you are in need of a rental car in South Orange County and want friendly service without any hassles, this is the place to go hands down. read more

Worst customer service ever. had to wait 40 min for them to get my car ready after my appointment time(they took it to car wash, and came back still dirty), then wait another 45 min to return the car, again, only one person at the desk, and he left a note said "sorry at car wash" I called and he insisted that I had to wait for him to come back to check me out, but I didn't know that they check you in as soon as you were there, even when the car is not ready, but check you out as late as they can, because if you pass one hour then you will be charge a FULL day rent plus any insurance you select. I arrived on a Saturday morning at what seemed like an empty business. Then the agent AB appeared promptly from the back and had me processed in my rental in no time at all. AB is courteous, accommodating and professional. The business is clean, in a business park and right off I-5. The place is a little hard to find and doesn't look like a car rental agency with all the classic cars in the showroom. It is easy to miss but may be accessed from the side street. I would do business with this agency anytime - no wait and excellent service.
