My DISABLED sister took a flight from Florida to St. Louis Mo. She rented a car from AVIS and was given a confirmation # When she landed in St Louis she went to get the rental and she was told she couldn't have it. WHY??? Because they told her they Don't take DEBIT CARDS. YET AVIS had already taken the money off her card and given her a confirmation #.. After a call to AVIS she is told that the money would be put back on her card MONDAY but Monday is a holiday so it will be TUESDAY. NOW she is stuck at the airport, NO MONEY, NO CAR and she has to stay at the airport until TUESDAY when her flight back home is to be caught. She is ALONE, DISABLED, NO MONEY, I WILL be contacting the Better Business Bureau, and Seek a suit against this company. They TOOK HER MONEY and gave her no car. She was to go to her class reunion this evening and family reunion Monday BUT now sits alone in an airport till Tuesday. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND WRONG IN SO MANY WAYS. I sure hope the employees that did this to her have a great LABOR DAY WEEKEND AND I HOPE THAT RONALD L NELSON does something about this. read more

Line was short, they only charged me an extra 5$ a day for an upgrade, and the best part was Angela. She was charming and seemed to actually enjoy her job, unlike most rental car people you encounter. Great job Angela, my girlfriend and I both agreed you were the best car rental checker inner we have ever had! read more

Waiting forever for a car with no one else in the place!! Also they tried the "bait and switch" to try to get us to spend more money for a car! Really lame. read more

My reservation was for 1:30pm. I usually go there and have one or two people ahead of me. Today it was 30. I had to wait an hour and a half to get my car. Wasn't out of there until 3pm. None of the employees made any announcement of what the problem was. No apologizes, nothing. Oh wait, one employee said they had cupcakes available, then comment how much she wanted one. Yeah that's going to smooth things over, some cheap grocery store, mini cupcake. That's so much better then picking up my car after a four hour flight. I requested a full-size car. That was advertised as a Dodge Charger or similar. I was given a Kia Optima. Not even close to a Kia. The Kia is part of their full-size fleet, Yet they showed I was getting a Dodge Charger part of there Premium fleet. (Bait & Switch?) read more

Why does it take so long to get people into a rental car?? Walked in to a line full of people 25 minutes ago. None of us have moved. This might take awhile.... read more

Well waited for more than 15 min at sidewalk for shuttle. Very cold Day!! Avis here clearly doesn't give a care about service. Consider going elsewhere. This is the second time shoddy service at Avis in St Louis. Certainly not what I expect from a premium service. And yes we do pay a premium at Avis. read more

I used a Budget rental (an Avis company) and while I've had a good experience at other locations with Avis, this one was frustrating. After trying repeatedly to decline the gas service option for $26.62 (on a one day $28 rental? Come on!) He just kept talking over me and saying "it would be refunded if the car is brought back full" which we always do, so it was unnecessary. While annoying, it wouldn't have been so bad if it had been removed when we returned the car on full this morning! It wasn't! I had to go to a supervisor to have it removed all the while the people in the booth gave me dirty looks while I waited! Pardon me for not wanting to pay for something I didn't use and didn't want in the first place. On top of that, the car would not fill correctly and kept tripping the sensor 2 gallons under full. I had to turn it on so that I could keep checking the fuel gauge as I filled it ounce by ounce! Honestly, something smells fishy with the whole setup! read more

Very poor customers service. Two employees were waiting on 1 man while the preferred customers waited in line for 15 minutes. Finally the guy just walked away without any transaction, I was shocked that they had just inconvenienced some of their best customers for some guy just asking questions about a rental. After waiting for 15 min, our transaction took less than a minute. Just very poor judgement by the employees. Won't be using Avis at any airport in the near future after this debacle. read more

Incredibly obnoxious staff. After looking at the terms I was agreeing on, I was just told... "Just press agree already". Leaving the parking lot and the guy at the gate asked a question that I could not hear. I gently asked him to repeat the question and he got real obnoxious and rude. I will only use them because my company requires it. I would use another provider if I had a choice. read more

Not my first time renting a car, but by far the worst experience I have had. My wife set up our arrangements through Priceline. Great we just hand them our confirmation number and we are good to go right? Not a chance. The person at the desk reads everything off of my sheet and then proceeds to set me up with a different car, which was apparently an upgrade that I told him directly that I didn't want. The price matched our confirmation sheet, so I assumed he had done his job. That was until I got billed from both Priceline and Avis. What happened when we brought this up with Avis? Customer is always wrong apparently. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION IF YOU CAN AVOID IT! read more

I have been trying to reach the Lambert airport Avis for 2 days due to leaving an item in a car that my business rented. I left messages on the lost and found line. I have been redirected to the international line more times than I can count. I am appalled by their customer service. In this day and age how are their phone lines so 90's? This is a multimillion dollar company and I can't get a hold of a single person in the St. Louis airport branch. I not only will never use this service again. But they have lost our business as a company as well. Wow. Good Job Avis. read more

Car was fine, service at check out was great. During the Check in process the gentleman couldn't get the ticket to close out and asked me to go to the counter. As an Avis chairman I haven't been to a counter in years but was happy to oblige. First as I entered, I noticed 4 Avis reps huddled around one computer assisting one person. All of them barking their thoughts at the person on the computer. The customer stood blank faced not Saying much as the Avis personnel continued to tell her different stories of why the issue was created, most of them pointing it to her fault. The line continued to back up behind me in the Preferred lane and as I sat there for another 15 mins I asked if any of them working a single case would be able to assist some of us waiting. I received an interesting look from a red head who said matter of factly that they would be with me in a moment. This started severs rumblings from the growing line. As we continued to wait, there continued to be several conversations behind the counter asking others thoughts on two other customers taken from the regular line. This created an interesting dance of floaters who were going from computer to computer while the 3 others on their own computer blurted out thoughts too to the group. When finally assisted by the red head it was a blank bland frustrated response joined by another gentleman. Overall I observed several rude and unexceptional comments to many customers. I certainly recommend some customer interaction training and a review of the general issue resolution process at this location. It certainly took away from my experience. I'll lean to National in the future where I also have status when in the STL market. read more

Long waiting lines, almost two hours to get to the counter. customer service was mediocre could have been better with the time we spent in line. Terrible process for a basic vehicle. I'll be going back to Dollar. Thank you very much budget/avis. read more

Lazy check-In agents, very poor service, no regard for Avis first, missing vehicles from assigned spots. It has now happened twice in a row. Every time you go there early, the agents will continue sitting inside the car until you have everything out of the rental vehicle and are standing there waiting for them to show up. AT that point will they haul their lazy A$$ of the Avis SUV and amble towards you. I was told just to leave the car and I'll get the receipt by email in 10-15 minutes. Guess what, on two recent visits, the first one was charged for 10 days instead of the 4 days that I rented the vehicle for. Second, they charged full for gas. No surprise that the vehicle I returned had already been rented out the same day. For the second rental, they still hadn't closed out the rental after almost a week of returning the car although the very same vehicle was again rented out. On another recent rental forgot my charger and another expensive accessory in the car. Called from the rental bus and was told that I can come collect it the following Monday when I return to this location to pick up the car. The person who took the call (from the reservation desk at STL) indicated that the item will have my tag and I'll just need to show my ID to get those back When I asked for the same, no one seemed to know or recall having any information about anything under my name. Twice in March, at the same location, I couldn't find my car at the assigned spot. When I went in to complain, the agent insisted that my vehicle was here. When I asked for his magic glasses, he seemed to have a epiphany and issued a new rental car. The second time when it happened, someone was already sitting in my replacement car ready to roll. This is one of the worst Avis locations. Luckily our corporate policy has changed allowing us to choose between three rental providers so this is the last I'd be using Avis at this location. Shame on you AVIS of St. Louis, MO Airport. You suck read more

On 3/18 we had reserved a vehicle to be rented and picked up at a downtown St Louis, MO Hotel, pre arrainged due to our scheduled arrival time was after business hours. I was even so thoughtfully given the clerks personal cell phone # in case wee got lost or there were any problems. When we arrived in a very busy hotel lobby, there was no car, no contract left for us, and no answer on the "personal cell phone" After calling the nationwide help # the woman could see our reservation but did not know why the car was not in place for us. she also apologized and simply said there was nothing she could do, leaving us 30 miles from our hotel. Did not offer to send us a cab, or to find me another rental (even from another company since there was obviously a mistake made and Avis was "sold out") I just wanted someone to know, we were left in a strange city, a big city, with not knowing what to do. I was terrified, as it was late at night. It cost us a $50 cab ride to rent from the local airport (another company) without any issue. plenty of cars available. I am so very disappointed in the couldnt care less attitude i percieved and i would not ever recommend your company to anyone traveling. I hope whatever procedures that are in place to see that persons traveling actually have transportation when arriving at the destination, or in a backup situation, are not left alone to figure it out on their own. No thanks to "Abdi" my sales clerk in the 811 Spruce Street (near Union Station)location. He could have at the VERY LEAST answered that personal cell phone and let me know what happened. read more

Overcharge, long waits, not friendly... A rather long wait for the shuttle when arriving at the airport; saw multiple shuttles from several different companies go by before ours appeared. Driver showed no interest in helping anyone with their bags. Also showed no interest in telling people the lay of the land ("we're going to be stopping at Terminal 1, then heading on over to the rental lot" - so some people actually got off at the other terminal and ended up having to wait for the next shuttle to the lot. Once I got home, I found a charge for an additional $37+ on my card -it was a pre-paid rental so there should have not been any additional charges. It's not clear from the receipt what the charges are for... I've submitted a query but based on previous reviews, I have little hope of seeing any resolution. I know, $37 isn't much, but still. In the meantime, add Avis to the list of those who will never knowingly get my business again. Back to good old Hertz, Enterprise, and Dollar, none of whom I have EVER had any problems with. read more

This place is very poorly run. It took nearly an hour to get to the desk with only 2 people staffed. There was no organization about what cars they had on the lot and what they didn't, creating a lot of the mixup with the people ahead in line. When I made it to the desk, I had prepaid everything and should just need to get the keys. Instead, I was told that they didn't have any cars available in the class I paid for and that they needed to downgrade me at the same price because that is "Avis' fine print." I asked the individual to show me the fine print, which they could not provide, and they told me they agreed with my frustration and that they too were frustrated that Corporate continually over books and promises on reservations made through the web. After listening to the individual vent about how bad Avis was, they agreed to credit my downgraded car and I was satisfied with the service recovery. Now, nearly one month later, I am still without a refund. I have reached out to the store manager twice, no call back. I have called corporate and they have "emailed" the refund department three times because you cannot speak with them over the phone. Needless to say, it appears that Avis has several operational process issues and unhappy employees with poor customer service. There are several companies in this space requiring better performance from Avis, go to a competitor. read more

This past weekend, I rented two 12 passenger vans from this Avis location. First, and foremost, when I called the Avis number to reserve the vans, every time I called, the representatives quoted me different prices, all of which were different from the prices online. There was absolutely no consistency whatsoever which says to me that they can charge whatever they want. My pick up time was 11:00am. After waiting in line, in a stuffy room, without any air circulation or air conditioning, for a half hour, we finally reached the customer service counter. I can only imagine if someone had somewhere important to be when they set up their pick up time. I was told that, although I rented both vans under my name, I had to pay an 'additional driver fee', a fee that was never mentioned to me when I rented the vans and never worked with me on by the customer service representative at the counter. They said that they could not credit my card/ set up the rental in a fellow driver's name to avoid the fee. I find it hard to believe that a corporate entity, like Avis, does not have the capability to credit people's accounts as, based on this experience, I also find it hard to believe that they can afford to not have said capabilities being that I'm sure their customer service representatives never make any mistakes in regards running customers' cards/bank accounts. Upon dropping the vans off, a gentleman, with a portable device, 'checked us out'. He, without telling me, charged all of the gas to my credit card total of $200.00. After waiting in line for another half hour, a manager came out to us and basically said, again, there was nothing they could do to work with us on this. After specifically asking the staff not to gas up the vans so that we could speak with the management about the fact that they never notifed us of the $8.00/gallon fee when renting the vans, the manager said that they already had them gassed up and that AGAIN there was nothing they could do. This was the WORST rental experience I have ever had. The waiting room was uncomfortable and provided, what I believe to be, an unacceptable amount of wait time. "Management" was completely unhelpful and careless with our situation. Yes, they spell out all of their charges and hidden fees on their 5 point font contracts, but not a single 'customer service representative' informs you of anything until it's too late and your card has been charged (and, of course, "there's nothing they can do"). This place is horribly run. They are inefficient (hence the awful wait time). Management seems to have no clue how to assist customers or how to facilitate a customer service operation. I will never be using Avis again and I hope this review encourages potential Avis customers to look elsewhere before renting from this company. read more

I have been using Avis for a long time and for the most part they are pretty good. Last night was the worst experience thus far. My flight was 30 minutes late (not Avis') fault. However, when I got to the curb for the Avis/Budget bus there were two other people already waiting. We all continued to wait and watch as several Hertz and National bus' came and went. After about 30 minutes of waiting I started to call the Avis office, which of course I never got through no matter what option I chose. The automated line when requesting to speak to someone at the location, the machine said everyone at the location was busy helping others. When selecting the MOD option, it put me into some generic VM. When choosing to speak to their global customer service, they were closed. Needless to say after about 5-6 calls trying every prompt, no dice! After about 45 minutes, myself and the three other people waiting decided to split a cab fare to get to the rental grounds (across the street from the airport). When I finally made it to the rental office, I complained about what happened and they were astonished at this and said the bus has been running consistently all night. Liars! So, after all this waiting, cab fare and frustration, all they could tell me is, that's just crazy, our bus has been running all night and they gave me a pathetic upgrade. Shame on you Avis!! read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I have never been more disappointed with a company in my life. After dealing with a sincerely kind gentlemen with a car rental, I find out that the quote i was given was for a 24 hour period (when he knew I was renting a car for 72 hours)! You can imagine my surprise when my receipt shows an amount 3x what I was quoted. I attempted to call the local location but the phone was NEVER answered. After being forced to deal with a national representative, she literally told me she couldn't help me and I needed to deal with the local facility themselves. After finding an email address to contact, I was told that while they understand my frustration, the rental agreement that I signed showed these charges. And while I do not dispute that, the gentleman helping me, walked me step by step through what I was signing and NEVER mentioned the daily cost. Sure, I could've read EVERY line of the agreement but Avis, you are fooling yourselves if you think your practices are ethical. I would rather take the bus then use this company EVER again. My advice?? Enterprise is the best of the best. Don't even bother with company. Ever. read more
