That was not the case, the shuttle ride to Dollar was pleasant and the driver was friendly, we had a good conversation. I will use Dollar again, overall getting the car and returning the rental was easy, both attendants were nice and explained the process to me. I rented a car from Dollar at St. Louis airport thru Priceline for 5 days for $306, then had to extend for another 3 days, which costs an extra $230 totaling $536 for ONE WEEK, fair enough, I guess. I returned the car, FULL of gas. When I filled up, the pump kicked off, the gauge read "F" full so I returned the car. My final credit card charge came with another $40 added for 4 gallons of gas at $9.99 per gallon to $579. I called their office and told them the car was full of gas. They said no, we put 4 more gallons in, your bill is final. I said you are wrong. The customer service lady told me I had an attitude and was angry. Ya think lady!! She was the one with the attitude. Yeah, I think you can say that after paying $536 to rent a car for a week, the ridiculous premium I paid for extending my time, then they stab me for 4 lousy gallons of gas, which I still do not believe. In addition, the car's exterior side mirrors were so spotted with water stains, I could not use them, I had to stop at a gas station to scrub them clean to see clearly. So if you rent from Dollar (which I do not recommend), make sure you fill the tank to the top so that gas is running down the side of the car or else you'll be buying $9.99 per gallon gas from these vultures. Went to the location on 4358 Cypress road the counter staff are the the most unprofessional people that I have ever meet, They are very very rude and disrespectful I was told by the big black guy in there that if I don't like what's happening there I don't have to return. Now what employee tells a customer that. Really he has no ownership nor does he have any right to tell a paying customer not to return. Very poor service I will never return. Genuinely couldn't have asked for a better car rental experience! The prices were extremely reasonable, the car was in excellent condition and drove so smoothly, and all of the staff that we interacted with were incredibly professional, friendly, and worked quickly. Even the shuttle bus driver was nice and ran a very timely schedule so that we made it to the airport in plenty of time thankfully I was concerned when I saw the initial reviews and so we just braced ourselves for something rough since we *needed* a car for our trip and this place had the best prices and options. But we had ZERO issues with renting from them, everything was great! I have no clue why they have bad reviews, all of their cars appeared to be in excellent condition and the staff was very professional and helpful, even though we were renting Last minute (like same day) because we forgot we would need to rent a car . I hope that everyone can have the same experience It also only took them 5 business days to process the $200 security deposit and remove that from our credit account so that was super simple :) **Additional tips** - 1. we have our own car insurance for our vehicles back home, so those will usually cover your rental cars as well, but check your policy first. If it does then you don't need to buy their insurance at all. 2. We also just sucked it up and paid the $40 bucks to have them refill the gas tank since we were rushing from a wedding to the airport, and that felt like it made things go much smoother as well. Returning your rental car off hours is confusing and downright crazy, went I got home back in SD, they charged me extra a total of $180 because I park the car on the wrong spot, which was their fault. Called St Louis Dollar to question the extra charge and told him for the manager to call me, manager never called me back for almost 2 days so I called corporate, to report this shenanigan and that was the time, manager called back, claiming will rectify their mistake, we will see for it's not credited yet on my credit card. They need to restructure their return policy and a clear explanation how to return the car off hours specially at night. In town to lay my nephew to rest. Upon return, employee "Jay" informed me the tag was missing from the key. With a very nasty tone Jay said I couldn't return the car without the tag. He asked me repeatedly for the paper tag that was on the key. As his behavior grew more immature the service got worse. Then He was frustrated because I didn't know how much fuel was left in it. Abandoned in St. Louis. I recently traveled to Belgium, and upon return had made arrangements for picking up a rental car from Dollar at the Airport location in St. Louis. My reservation pick-up time was made for 10:00pm and made months in advance. My plane arrived at 10:45 pm and I waited for a shuttle which never came. After questioning other rental company drivers, I was told that Dollar closed at 10:00pm and that Dollar was now owned by Hertz. I was told that Hertz was still operating, but was also closing at 11:00pm I was told that Hertz would sometimes honor reservations made through Dollar and after contacting Hertz at 10:55pm was told that they would not honor the reservation with Dollar. Was also told that they did not have any rental cars available unless I "hurried up and made a reservation" on the internet!? The only Kudos in the whole fiasco go to a Hertz van driver who offered to wait past closing (in the rain) and shuttle us to the office if we wanted to go ahead and make a reservation online. All I can say is shame on both Hertz and Dollar - for not having extended hours at their airport locations, for not making arrangements for after hours pick up of reserved vehicles, for not informing me at the time of reservation that they would be closing at my arranged pick-up time, and for not caring more about customer care and service. I marked it on the paperwork AND took a photo (Thanks to my smart hubby) A week later I get a letter in the mail (!) stating they had forwarded a damage claim to a third party vendor (because they are so busy) to collect money from me for a new bumper! Rent from anywhere but here. It's so budget and it shows in every possible way. The location is so far from the airport that they don't even have signage on property. Good luck finding it I'm your return to the airport. Customer service is the worst I've experienced in a while. They wanted me to sign for the vehicles condition without seeing it and gave attitude when I pushed back. Then I realized they were charging a daily fee in order for me to receive the frequent flyer miles for booking through southwest. When I asked about the young male rep was so rude that I was slightly shocked. I said "Really?" And then he went full attitude. A woman who looked to be a supervisor, based on the way she was dressed, was sitting there observing the whole thing. The young man walked out as if he had just dropped the mic. No he charges the FULL $557 and then when I realized it I hadn't even left yet he could only tell me depending on my bank it will release with this very nonchalant nasty attitude well ma'am there's nothing I can do about it and after damn near begging him to call his manager because according to him they have No corporate office due to being a franchise the manager says I can have BOTH transactions disputed but I would have to go ELSEWHERE to rent. While getting the other car Dollar re-rented the car I had returned!! And they didn't sanitize it first. 4 days into rental the tire pressure light of second car came on. Took it to Firestone who showed me the plastic in the drivers side wheel well had come loose and rubbed against the tire until it was shredded and wore a 3 inch strip down to the belt. Called Dollar who told me to replace it and they will reimburse me. My niece died suddenly, so I had to take a trip back to Missouri rather quickly. I booked a flight with Southwest Airlines and got a car with it because the price was right along with getting more miles. That booking was with Dollar Car Rental. This would be my first and last experience with these jokers. First, I get to the shuttle bus area and see the Dollar bus in which the driver was asleep when I walked up to it. I mean dead asleep and I woke him up by knocking on the door to let me in. It gets worse. I get to the lot which is way off the airport property and in a kinda shady area. You wouldn't want to be walking around the area alone at night. That is for sure. Anyways, I get there and finally get through their long process, which included trying to peddle insurance off on me. They give me the keys to the car and when I get to it you could have wiped the nicotine off the seats it smelled so bad from cigarette smoke. I go back to the counter in which the guy who is supposed to deliver the cars is sitting in a seat off to the side playing on his phone. I'm talking about the lot guy not the guy who is behind the counter. He finally gets up and finds the counter guy another car for me. It's a nice Camry, so I'm off to my family. However, it gets worse. I decide to come home two days early and change my flights, so you would think that I would save on rental fees by bringing the car back early. Yeah right! No, first I'm told that I can't deliver the car back to the lot before 6 AM even though my flight left before then, so I had to deliver it to a parking lot across the street and pay an extra $10 to do so. It was that or miss my flight, so I ate the $10. It gets worse. I looked at my credit card statement about a week later to find out they charged me $212 for the car instead of the $189 that I originally booked it for. I called Dollar's customer service and I'm told this lot is a franchise and they won't help me. I have to go to the actual St. Louis Lot to settle my dispute. I said those guys are horrible, so then all of a sudden she said she would handle it through some special division. Yeah right! I get an email saying because I turned the car in early that I lost my weekly rate and had to pay a higher rate. Yes, I turn the car in early to use it less, but have to pay more. The lesson learned is that one you are not dealing with Dollar when you go to the several airports in the US, but some franchise that can create it's own rules. Secondly, I learned that Dollar is a pretty dishonest outfit and shame on me if I let them fool me twice. Shame on Southwest Airlines for even offering these jokers on their website as a company to get a rental car from. The front desk was very friendly and didn't seem bothered that I got there with a few minutes to spare before closing time. They got me to my car and off I went.. the car was clean and the only reason I'm giving four stars was the return.. I returned the car prior to opening hours which is when I found out about extra charges. I was given no choice due to my early flight. I was to pay an additional $9 because the car was to be returned in a parking lot with a shuttle service. I'm a frequent traveler and typically rent with N or H; however, there was a car shortage so off I went to Dollar. I had absolutely no wait for a shuttle and was greeted enthusiastically and professionally by Steve. Great guy! My pleasant experience continued with excellent customer service by Tajai (sp?). I heard she was new; she's definitely a keeper! On the way back, I saw both Tajai and Steve again. On the way back to the airport, Steve asked me about my trip and I learned a couple of new tidbits about STL. The reason my review is not a 5 is because I wasn't so thrilled with the condition of my car (Rogue). The car was quite dirty and there was no windshield wiper fluid--a must-have in winter months! Stupid me - ok not really, since I am in the military and have to use the places they book for me. Pretty much all the negative comments are true. The biggest thing to me was that, even after calling to check last night on what time they open, when I arrived (15 minutes after said time) the gates are locked, no lights are on, and no one to be found. Really people!!! One of the shuttle drives is sitting outside the gate and told me - yes they are open but the worker "forgot his keys and went home to get them and would be back in 5 minutes". So how does that make them open??? Funny because I passed the place 15 minutes ago to fill the car up and returned and it's still closed up. Oh yeah - there would also be an extra $9.00 charge added if I did that - WTH!!!??? Sure - you could park across the street and use the shuttle there (as the sign indicates) "after hours car returns" can do BUT this is not after hours and after reading the reviews and seeing this - do you really think I'm gonna trust Dollar... NOT! So I have finished typing this review (it is now 25 past their opening time) and you guessed it Yelpers, still all locked up and the line of people is growing to turn in cars. This location was decent and they appeared to have plenty of cars on the lot which is a good thing because I hate waiting for one especially since I always already have a reservation. There are plenty of employees working at inside the office so there was never a line both when I was picking up and dropping off my rental. When picking up they try to get you to upgrade to a sportier or more expensive car but they aren't very pushy which is good. The building/lot were a little run down and it was kind of odd that there was no security checkpoint or anything on the way out when picking up the car. They just give you the keys and you're free to take off whenever you're ready... I reserved a compact car and got a brand new Toyota Corolla which drove great and I had no issues during my 2 day trip. I would come here again if I need to rent again in the St Louis area. read more

This is the worst car rental experience of my life. It started when we landed and went to take the shuttle to the rental facility. We waited over 30 minutes and finally gave up. We had to take a taxi for $15 plus tip. There were at least 50 people who were still waiting when we left. The shuttle had still not arrived when we were leaving. The personnel at the counter offered no apologies and said that the shuttle was stuck in traffic. That was a lie. All the other rental car shuttles kept swinging by while no Dollar ever appeared. When we arrived they immediately tried to up sell me to a more expensive car. When I asked for some credit for the cab ride, they generously gave me a $2 discount off of our $110 rental charge. When we returned the car they charged me for gas. Most places allow 1/8 of a tank to be used at no charge. Not this place. They say you have to refill within 10 miles of the facility. The rental facility is in the middle of nowhere so good luck finding a gas station. I drive from the West end of St Louis -- a 20 minute drive. They charged me $16 for gas. Supposedly my Nissan Sentra used 2 gallons of gas to go 20 miles. The staff was rude and abusive. Never use this place! read more

After an exhausting red eye flight from Las Vegas that was delayed three and a half hours I finally get to the front counter only to find my driver's license missing. The young man behind the counter explains to me I can go to the airport to the police station with my tickets and they will verify my data in the National computers. They will tjen give a piece of paper that will allow me to drive legally and allow them to rent me the car. When I returned from the airport the young man was gone but a middle-aged lady was helping me. I showed her my reservation and said my rental was already cleared for approximately $147. She asked me if I would like to get a a better car I said sure if you got one that would be nice, so she points out to one of the cars and I said okay and then she showsme a price and says this is normally this would normally be $210 but I can give it to you for $142. I thought that's great that's cheaper than what I was looking at spending. She then processes my vehicle and hands me a receipt to sign for over $940. I looked at her and asked her what did she think I was asking for because I came in for $147 total for a 5 day rental. She got huffy and we ran it with my original vehicle. However when she handed me the paperwork to sign, it was $775. I asked her what she was doing because my reservation for that car was $147. She didn't know how to clear it but by then the young man had come back to the counter. He showed her where she was making her mistake and she reprocessed it and gave me the car at the original price. However she ran my card for over $900. This caused several of my standard monthly payments to bounce in my checking account. If my wife had not checked it when she did we would have bounced many more payments. They gave me the run around when I turned the car in 5 days later. We cancelled the payment on the account and my wife called three different times to speak to the manager and never got a return call. They reran my card for over $700 but this time we caught it after only one payment bounced. However it had already cleared so we could not stop payment. After almost 2 weeks we finally got hold of somebody who helped us, but we were out the fees that they charged us for bouncing the payment, and Dollar refused to refund the extra $40 cause by their mistake. Zero stars! My mistake for not checking their Yelp reviews first before booking a car here. I made a rental reservation here through my airline to get additional points as a frequent flyer. Dollar charged me the standard fee for said points, but never confirmed my rental with the airline, so Dollar kept that extra money, and I got nothing out of it. More egregiously, my reservation was for one type of car, but when I got there, they said that they had another car available. My previous interaction with other car rental companies has been that if they don't have the car I reserved, they would provide a substitute at no additional cost. Dollar, however, charged me TWICE the agreed amount, which I hadn't realized until after I already left St. Louis. When I called them about this (as well as the frequent flyer points), the front desk transferred me to one of the managers. Went to voicemail. I called back a few days later and was transferred to another person's voicemail. The follow-up was really horrible. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS (literally)! (Dollar is part of the same company as Thrifty and Hertz, so consider avoiding those too.) read more

I will never book from Dollar again. I waited 30 minutes at the airport for the shuttle, and it only finally arrived after we made 2 calls to ask where it was. I then received incredibly poor service from the two very rude women working at the desk. My bill ended up being significantly more than what I was led to believe it would be after all taxes, fees, etc, were added on. I went to the car, examined it, and reported damage to the top of the front bumper. The woman I reported it to demanded that I bring the car to her, looked at it briefly, and said she would note it. A couple weeks after returning the car, I received a letter from a collection agency for $300 for damage to the bumper. No notification from Dollar prior to referring it to a collection agency. When I disputed the claim and asked for pictures of the damage, I received a picture of the damage I reported. I sent a pic that I took prior to taking the car, showing that same damage, and Dollar changed their story and said the charge was actually for a scrape on the bottom of the bumper. The proposed resolution that Dollar offered was to ONLY charge me $173 for damage that I didn't cause. Don't rent from this company unless you want hidden fees, poor customer service, and dishonest business practices. I have no idea if this is typical for Dollar or if it's specific to the St. Louis location, but I won't be finding out, as I will choose ANY other rental company over Dollar in the future. read more

ZERO STARS. I cannot express enough what a seedy and criminal facility this is. To all travels from a person who travels weekly: DO NOT RENT HERE. First and foremost, the shuttle driver did not show up to the airport pick up for over FORTY FUVE MINUTES. I called dollar and asked if their shuttle was still running, to which a very confused customer service rep replied yes. Post phone call, I waited another 25 minutes for the shuttle to arrive. strike one. I arrived to saint Louis rental at approx. 10:40 pm on a Monday night to retrieve my midsize reservation at $71 per night for 4 nights. The sales person whom I spoke with previously about the shuttle attempted several times to get me to "upgrade" for $92 a night. I kindly declined both times and insisted on my Toyota Corolla. After 3 flights in 12 hours, I was exhausted and desperately wanted to get to my hotel as I worked at 7'am the following morning. Upon looking over my expenses, I noticed that the salesman charged me for the upgrade that I declined TWICE. Upon noticing this I called dollar immediately to express that o had declined this and my reservation stayed $71 per day fee. I asked to immediately return my car and receive the vehicle for the amount my reservation agreed to. The man I spoke with said I would be responsible for the upgraded fee for the 24 hours I was in possession of the vehicle. I explained to him that no, I was not responsible for the upgrade because I declined it twice and wanted to return said vehicle ASAP for my original reservation. The salesman asked to put me on hold. 5 minutes later he returned and looked up my reservation and informed me that I was not being charged an upgraded fee, they were out of midsize cars when I arrived at the airport so I had a complementary upgrade. I explained to him tha the paper reservation that I received upon picking up the vehicle shows that I am being charged for an upgraded fee. I also expressed that I wanted this resolved now so whenever I returned my vehicle at the end of my stay, the paper and digital receipts matched. At this the sales person immediately without warning, put me on hold and then the phone disconnected. Absolutely atrocious. This facility will never take another dollar from me. I will absolutely be bringing my vehicle back ASAP and taking my reservation elsewhere for the remainder of My stay. read more

I pre-reserved online and they clearly outlined my price. Upon arrival, they told me they had "no more vehicles of that type," and that they could upgrade me for somewhere around $30 more/day. Frustrated but not overly upset, I agreed. Turns out, that "upgrade" included over $150 in additional fees that were never made known to me, a ridiculous surcharge fee, and ADDITIONAL fee for being under $25 (despite that fee already being added once in my reservation), a license fee, and an additional fee for "parking the car across the street" where they specifically told me to - They didn't mention they share it with another company and expect me to pay for that too. Not to mention the lady talked faster than an auctioneer and dragged on forever. I was quite confident I had made out everything she said. Point being, these people will rob you. They'll get you fixed on a price, scam you out of more, and show you exactly how they legally justified it. Pathetic. read more

I will never use dollar again. I rented from Dollar Rent a Car St. Louis Airport location. We had a minor accident and Dollar demanded that the car be towed back to St. Louis from 4 hours away, they would not stop charging until it was towed back. They would not help me with road side assistance, no one answered when I tried to get road side assistance. They would not let me tow to a local dollar rent a car and get a exchange car, I was left without a vehicle and no way to get back to the airport. I had to change my air tickets to a different airport costing an additional $1000. I will never use dollar again. Go to Hertz or National. read more
