Booked a rental car and prepaid online. When i arrived to the location, you aren't allowed to bring personal vehicles on the lot. My husband had to let me out on the main road and i had to walk to the building which is towards the middle/back of the lot. Upon entering, the service counter and waiting area was clean, and organized. There was only one worker checking customers in and only 4 customers in line. I waited in line for about 25 minutes before getting serviced. Once i got checked in, i was told my rental car location and that it was at the far back end of the lot,and i had to walk to go get it. The gentleman working the counter was pleasant. The process should be a different. A worker should be bringing the car to the customer, instead of making them walk all over the parking lot looking for their car. And they should ensure that the windows and car is cleaned off for the customers before letting them leave. I had to run the car through the wash. read more

This is a late review, but one that I should recount. This Avis location stepped up in ways I hadn't seen others do. I came the day after an unexpected snowstorm that shut everything down the day before. The staff was attempting their best to prep cars as fast as possible but the line was long. Yet, I did not hear any of them complain as they just kept moving. When it came to my turn they put me in an AWD vehicle, helped me take my luggage to my rental, and ensure it was ready to go. They were very nice, polite, and extremely helpful. read more

1 part time person and the chick with the blue wig took off on her. 10 People in line . Reservation booked on my company account and they want me to put my CC and DL on file. I only have a debit card with me and they have to run my credit???? This is insanity at 10 pm. And no cars ready. Several people had problems with their credit cards and one woman just got married and since her drivers license with her new name didn't match her credit card she had issues as well! Manager was overwhelmed and was rude. Wound up having to take an Uber to the hotel where my company credit card was waiting. Tomorrow I'll be booking with enterprise. read more

Everything! I will never use Avis St. Louis Airport location again. I waited nearly 3 hours for a mini van with no gas and dirty. The car wouldn't even start. We were told that the manager had a meeting with the employees while 80+ people were waiting to be processed and leaving 2 employees to check in customers. Then after waiting, was then told where preferred Avis customers needed to go... a whole other building (which I was treated better); but, was given a vehicle that didn't work (Chrysler). I was put in a Toyota but the oil warning came on . Both vehicles were dirty but the Toyota had a full tank. After 3 hours, I just wanted to go. read more

Through a company discount we reserved a car rental that appeared to be professionally booked online , only to get to the establishment and have to deal with staff misunderstanding and confusion on the car rental pick up! The situation was fixed but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The hold fee of $250 on my card and their card choice rules not mine was an issue as well. Security on the lot making personal cars move outside their lot and park on the service road but still carding them was ridiculous as well. I will not be using this rental car lot again. Too much tomfoolery for my liking. read more

I have been an Avis President's Club member for the past 10+ years and securing a working car at this location still took approx 1.5 hrs. The 1st vehicle assigned to me had an issue with the rear driver's side axle, so I didn't want it. The 2nd vehicle did not have keys - it was written on one of the windows but had not been input into the system. The 3rd vehicle had an engine light on. The 4th vehicle was the one we took, but the inside of the windshield was so dirty it was nearly impossible to see out. Luckily I am used to Avis not cleaning the inside windshield so I bring Windex wipes and a cloth with me to clean it. The staff was helping and frustrated on my behalf, which was appreciated. read more

Worst rental experience of my life. They have codes you can scan while waiting in line to "speed the process up." The code led me to a location across town without me noticing. It canceled my original reservation and my price more than doubled!! This was after waiting an hour and a half. Then they wouldn't accept my work Mastercard because my corporate office had a different address than the address on my ID. Are you kidding? Have you heard of billing address? Complete waste of time, this location should be shut down. read more

This goes for all Avis though I had at least a good follow through customer service with the Florissant Meadows manager, but I will never, EVER rent from Avis again. They put me in a vehicle that I couldn't thoroughly inspect with two bald front tires and a slow leak tire on the rear. The main customer service and emergency line is atrocious and when the slow leak tire eventually went flat, they tried to charge me $1700 to replace the tire I had full insurance to. I've been on the phone with them for over 18 hours since the incident and though I have it in writing from them that they would comp me an additional $300 for the unsafe driving conditions they put us through, the last time I talked to customer service, they closed my case and said they would not honor anything because they gave me a 2 day rental voucher. No one could pay me to rent a car from Avis again. Here are all the things wrong that happened with them: 1. Last minute messaged us that the van we reserved was unavailable from the airport location and we would need to drive an extra 20 mins away to a new location later in the evening 2. The van was not ready--still dirty and sticky inside, with children's toys under seats 3. Van had damage to door, slow leak tire (that later fully popped), and two bald, front tires on a weekend rental that had non stop rain 4. TERRIBLE customer service where they told us that we would need to drive the flat tire to the closest available 24/7 Avis....BACK in St. Louis. We had to drive 120 miles with a flat tire that we had to keep filling up 5. Overcharging--when we brought the original van for replacing with a new van, the lambert airport avid marked it as a return and the new van as a new rental, so was charged initially $1900 total for a 3 day rental that ended with a flat and 9 additional hour fiasco because they rented us a bad vehicle. Original rental was quoted as $300 for the 3 day trip. They returned the extra costs ONLY after I had been on the phone with them at that point 16 hours. 6. Lies and empty promises of returning compensation for all of the issues of this van Renting from Avis guarantees that you'll have an expensive, DANGEROUS trip. read more

Terrible experience. They allow you to make a reservation online using a debit card but then require you to give them a credit before taking the vehicle. The credit card has to be a physical credit card because none of their card readers recognize bank apps. It would be nice if they made this clear and reiterated how much of a problem this will be for you if don't have prior knowledge. Secondly, I pleaded with them not to charge my credit card but to charge my debit. I was told by two representatives that the credit card wouldn't be charged. Guess what, they charged my credit card and with added, unfamiliar charges at that. Corporate refunded me a small fraction of the charge to my credit card but that will not fix the interest I now owe on a card that was paid off. Not to mention my credit score. I will never ever recommend any Avis location to anyone and especially this one. read more

Two stars for the poor folks that work here, you deserve better. The car pick up and drop off process is broken. It should not take over an hour to obtain a car and get the heck off your lot and on our way! Picture this it is 32 degrees and there are wind gusts up to 20-25 MPH. You have to wait outside in the freezing cold while one poor woman takes a ticket from you and has to locate and drive your car to you. Also, there are 5 people in front of you. There was only one exit open and of course one person had an issue with their rental paperwork, so we were all backed up trying to leave. I did receive an upgrade, but the car was filthy, and I had to clean the inside of the windshield as it was cloudy and streaked. When we returned our car there was no one there to direct us where to park so I just parked near the shuttle bus. Do yourself a favor and read the other reviews and use one of the other rental agencies at STL. read more

When you arrive in the evening, this location rarely has cars available, even if you have a reservation an are a Preferred member.

Avis as a whole has always treated me very well as a customer. But this location is definitely making me go to other rental companies. I've had two rental cars that were filthy upon pickup and smelled like cigarette or pot smoke on the inside. Whenever you have to pick someone up after they drop off a rental, you have to park on the street (which is a very busy two lane in a curve) to wait. Cars whizzing past you at 40-50 MPH while you only have about a foot or so before someone can side swipe you. They closed down the customer waiting lot so you can't safely navigate exchanging bags from one car to another. Choose another place that cares about the safety of their customers. read more

If it could get worse then this Avis location I don't know what you would do. Maybe the office would be outside. I waited in line for over an hour to see an agent to get a rental car. It's like Avis would prefer I Uber so they could go bankrupt. It's insane! read more

I'm pretty surprised by the poor reviews as the cars I have received from Avis in STL have always been great. My last trip, the manager Rozita, reached out during to check in. I had one minor issue and she promised to follow-up. like clockwork, she did. My driver from the airport was also wonderful and kind. If you have $5, be sure to tip them. They are always willing to help with luggage. read more

I've used Avis Lambert Field twice this year and will not again. I'm an Avis Preferred member and am astonished how badly this location operates. It starts with the airport shuttle. Totally erratic pickup schedule. I tried calling the location to inquire where the bus is. You can't reach a live person. My current rental, a Chevy Malibu, had a bad vibration in the rear end. I wrote the airport location and was promised a $75 reduction of my rental fee. That reduction wasn't visible when I received my final invoice via email. And now that I've looked at the Yelp reviews for this location, I'm not the only person seriously disappointed by their Avis experience. Why hasn't Avis Corporate overhauled this location's management? I'm going to switch rental car firms for future STL trips. read more

I am frustrated by a policy that requires the name on a driver's license to exactly match the name on the credit card used for a car rental. This disproportionately affects women, who are far more likely to change their last name after marriage, and creates an unnecessary barrier for something as simple as renting a car. Renting a car shouldn't feel like a gendered obstacle course. Yet policies that require a driver's license name to match a credit card may impact women who've changed their last name after marriage. Life events like marriage shouldn't create unnecessary stress or barriers for customers. I understand the need for fraud protection, but it shouldn't involve forcing someone to jump through hoops simply because their name changed. It's time for policies that work for people, not against them. This policy left me stranded at a small airport because I used a credit card with my maiden name on it and my married name is on my ID. Normally I would also have a credit card on me with my married name, but unfortunately I didn't have that one with me. I waited an hour for an uber and the uber had to drive me an hour out of town. I almost missed my cousin's wedding because of this fiasco. read more

Was given an unsafe car. It had bald tires, the maintenance light on and a chip in the windshield.

Horrible location. No clear way to enter. The only entry designated for rental cars only all others tire damage may occur. Tried calling for help. All phones go to corporate and they were unable to help. A worker by the gate told us it was ok to enter. Three employees at the desk. No other customers. Got the car. My wife who dropped me off was berated because she wasn't supposed to drive in. Also demanded ID, and vehicle info even though it obviously wasn't one of the rentals. We were only here because the Avis location we called to book from didn't have a vehicle available. Customer service is nonexistent. read more

We rented through the Lambert Airport Avis on our recent trip to St. Louis. I am Avis preferred, so I was able to select our car before making it to the rental offsite. Thhey do have a regular shuttle that was about a 5 minute drive or so the rental lot. They had a TON of cars on the lot, but only listed about 5 or so on my app where I was given a "complimentary" upgrade. All the options were trucks excluding one SUV. We did select the SUV, which smelled IMMENSELY like cigarette smoke. I went into the check in to see if we were able to explore some other options. The front desk did promptly get us a substitute and brought up another hybrid SUV that worked great for our needs. The lot is setup super packed and not as direct as other car rentals, but were able to make our way out. During our rental, though i didn't have any issues I did have some inquires on modifying the rental, as the estimated invoice did not match the prebooked invoice. The app would not permit me to, calling directly, they attempted but said the system would not let them and upon calling the location directly, no one answered. All worked out, but it was definitely a tad frustrating not being able to make adjustments with ANY of the given options and told just to "roll" with it. We returned and had no issues. but it as not as seamless or smooth of a rental as I would have hoped! read more

This location is horrible. I have never waited over an hour for a rental car before, even after having done the pre-check in. I was supposed to be at a meeting and ended up being 30 minutes late thanks to this rental facility. I also told the customer service representative that I did not want to pay for any extra coverage or fuel charge. He then said he was just "adding the fuel charge as a hold that you will get back when you return the car with a full tank." What BS! Well guess what, I got charged for the fuel charge still in the end. I called Avis national line and they refunded me the charge. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION!!!! read more

I wrote John O'Neill, CEO of Budget/Avis and ,surprise, received absolutely no response‼ Mr. O'Neill: My name is Greg Crosby, a long time customer & retired Coca Cola executive. I certainly understand customer service & how good & bad can affect customer base & profitably. I need to make you aware of my Avis experience in downtown St. Louis last month on June 3rd. Have never witnessed anything like it in 5 decades of travel world wide.I waited for my SUV for over 2 hours at Avis because they 'ran out of cars'. Me, along with about 20 other customers, were herded out to a tent in the parking lot to wait for cars as they came in...... It took me longer at Avis than to fly from Arizona to St. Louis‼And because of the delay I missed an important event that evening. It gets worse. Finally my vehicle comes out almost 2 1/2 hours later and it's a Jeep SUV with extensive hail damage &  notes in green felt pen replace on the hood. It was either take the SUV at that point or risk no car at all. I took it & had to drive it that way for 3 weeks when In fact it shouldn't have even been on the road‼ The Avis facility in St. Louis is one of the worst managed I've ever seen.I called Corporate AVIS the next day and was told there was nothing they could do to exchange vehicle. Mr. O'Neill, what I've described is not the Avis standard. Accordingly, would appreciate a 50 % refund or a commensurate future credit for car rental from Avis. I think this is more than fair. Will wait to hear from you.  Greg Crosby read more

By far the worst rental car location I've ever encountered. Cars are assigned to renters only to find an empty spot with no car. Location has no more than two people working the desk while lines are regularly 10+ people deep. I've used Avis a lot through my company, but this particular Avis St Louis Airport location doesn't care about their cars nor the customer service. My car had a low tire pressure light when I first started the engine -- anyone driving the car would have seen it right away. As I was driving out, the gate guard said I could go to a gas station to get it filled. This should not have been my problem. Then when I tried to gas up the vehicle, the fuel door was stuck and I could not open it. When I mentioned this upon return, the check-in agent said the latch sometimes gets stuck (clearly not the first time this happened) and he would mark the car return as full. I was content and then went on to catch my flight. Looking at my receipt, he marked my fuel as needing 3.95 gallons. More time needed to follow up on something that is a smooth transaction at other better-managed Avis locations. One star for a dirty, poorly maintained vehicle and for wasting my time. read more

Avis is terrible, I reserved a vehicle they charged my card went in to pick up the vehicle, they charged my card again. I explained to the clerk you guys just charged my card , she states she doesn't see a charge and charged me a second time. Shuttle from airport took a long time, every other rental company had at least 5 shuttle come through before this shuttle showed up, and when it did we had to pack it completely full. When we got to the counter it was even worse. Lines are insanely long and after waiting for the counter u was forced to stand in another line while the lot attendant sat in a car on her phone. Also the man at the counter would just get up and walk away randomly, one time even going to the soda machine to grab a drink. I've mostly had positive experiences at this location. I had one rental where it took an hour to get a car. Other instance the Avis preferred I was able to pick a car as I landed and just go. I think sometimes we forget they are underpaid to deal with over entitled preferred members. When is the last time you talked to them by their name or asked how their day was? This is a busy airport. Don't forget the human side of it. Today I was told by my shuttle driver I was the first customer to ask how her day was going. We dropped off the car at 4:45am and they were ready and waiting for us even though the listing says they open at 6am. Whew! Our car, a huge Ford Expedition, was clean and comfortable for us.
