Everything! I will never use Avis St. Louis Airport location again. I waited nearly 3 hours for a mini van with no gas and dirty. The car wouldn't even start. We were told that the manager had a meeting with the employees while 80+ people were waiting to be processed and leaving 2 employees to check in customers. Then after waiting, was then told where preferred Avis customers needed to go... a whole other building (which I was treated better); but, was given a vehicle that didn't work (Chrysler). I was put in a Toyota but the oil warning came on . Both vehicles were dirty but the Toyota had a full tank. After 3 hours, I just wanted to go.

Through a company discount we reserved a car rental that appeared to be professionally booked online , only to get to the establishment and have to deal with staff misunderstanding and confusion on the car rental pick up! The situation was fixed but it left a bad taste in my mouth. The hold fee of $250 on my card and their card choice rules not mine was an issue as well. Security on the lot making personal cars move outside their lot and park on the service road but still carding them was ridiculous as well. I will not be using this rental car lot again. Too much tomfoolery for my liking.

I have been an Avis President's Club member for the past 10+ years and securing a working car at this location still took approx 1.5 hrs. The 1st vehicle assigned to me had an issue with the rear driver's side axle, so I didn't want it. The 2nd vehicle did not have keys - it was written on one of the windows but had not been input into the system. The 3rd vehicle had an engine light on. The 4th vehicle was the one we took, but the inside of the windshield was so dirty it was nearly impossible to see out. Luckily I am used to Avis not cleaning the inside windshield so I bring Windex wipes and a cloth with me to clean it. The staff was helping and frustrated on my behalf, which was appreciated.

Bald and treadless tire. Quarter there to show how treadless.

This goes for all Avis though I had at least a good follow through customer service with the Florissant Meadows manager, but I will never, EVER rent from Avis again. They put me in a vehicle that I couldn't thoroughly inspect with two bald front tires and a slow leak tire on the rear. The main customer service and emergency line is atrocious and when the slow leak tire eventually went flat, they tried to charge me $1700 to replace the tire I had full insurance to. I've been on the phone with them for over 18 hours since the incident and though I have it in writing from them that they would comp me an additional $300 for the unsafe driving conditions they put us through, the last time I talked to customer service, they closed my case and said they would not honor anything because they gave me a 2 day rental voucher. No one could pay me to rent a car from Avis again. Here are all the things wrong that happened with them: 1. Last minute messaged us that the van we reserved was unavailable from the airport location and we would need to drive an extra 20 mins away to a new location later in the evening 2. The van was not ready--still dirty and sticky inside, with children's toys under seats 3. Van had damage to door, slow leak tire (that later fully popped), and two bald, front tires on a weekend rental that had non stop rain 4. TERRIBLE customer service where they told us that we would need to drive the flat tire to the closest available 24/7 Avis....BACK in St. Louis. We had to drive 120 miles with a flat tire that we had to keep filling up 5. Overcharging--when we brought the original van for replacing with a new van, the lambert airport avid marked it as a return and the new van as a new rental, so was charged initially $1900 total for a 3 day rental that ended with a flat and 9 additional hour fiasco because they rented us a bad vehicle. Original rental was quoted as $300 for the 3 day trip. They returned the extra costs ONLY after I had been on the phone with them at that point 16 hours. 6. Lies and empty promises of returning compensation for all of the issues of this van Renting from Avis guarantees that you'll have an expensive, DANGEROUS trip.

Approximately 10 mins away should you decide to Uber it. He ran to the site using Google maps and picked us up outside of STL within 45 mins. My husband was happy because he got his miles of running and exercise for the day! Excellent customer service, we saved $1,000 in fees if renting a vehicle not in the airport, and prior customer didn't refuel vehicle to full tank so we're informed it's okay to return the vehicle with gas; however, full tank not necessary. Our Nissan Sentra was smooth riding! The trunk fit two large suitcases. This baby took us on road trips to MO, IL, IN, OH, MI, and Ontario, Canada. We returned the automobile to YYZ location. Male employee at YYZ checked the mileage, ensured we had everything before parting ways. Male employee at St Ann, MO location personally took the time, left a voicemail on my phone for my husband, inquired if there were any other concerns with the vehicle before closing out the bill. Wow! Talk about personable, Midwest hospitality, at your service! My husband gladly returned his phone call to inform him that all went well, he's ready to close out the bill and thanked the gentleman. We're happy to be repeat customers at this location! Worth the personable customer service, run and money.

This was my first time using Hertz and from beginning to end it was the best experience by far that I have ever had renting a car from the airport area in St. Louis. Unlike my experience at other local rental agencies, this place was adequately staffed, and there weren't horrible, long lines. The car was what I expected. It was hands-down my best car rental experience in St. Louis. I will definitely use them again in the future. Hopefully my experience continues to be the same in the future.

I went to Hertz for a long term, indefinite rental. I am currently waiting on my personal vehicle to be ready for pickup. In the meantime, I rented a 3 row vehicle from the Ballwin, MO location. The first time I got in the car, there was a potent smell of air freshener. It was annoying, but I figured it would subside in a day or two. Nothing worth mentioning. Fast forward a couple of hours. I pulled over at the gas station, and went to put my sunglasses in the glove compartment. That's when I found the half gone bottle of tequila. So, I was unknowingly driving with an open container. I chalked it up to a silly mistake, tossed it in the trash, and went on with my life. As the days passed, the air freshener odor did subside, but only to reveal what it was attempting to hide. The vehicle smells like a bar. Someone must have been chain smoking in it prior to my rental. I called, many, MANY times to swap it out. On the rare occasion Hertz actually answered, they'd say they couldn't help me because they didn't have any other 3 row vehicles to swap for. Finally, after several of these conversations, I asked what they suggested. I was told to call around to the other locations to swap out. So I did. The O'Fallon employee was the only kind person in the process. He did not, however, have a vehicle I could trade for. On my 3rd attempt he suggested I go to the airport because they always have "plenty or 3rd row vehicles to choose from". I told him I had been unable to get in touch on the phone with the airport location. He informed me that they are usually too busy to answer, and I'd be fine just driving in to swap out. This was after a week and a half of countless attempts to swap out. So I drove to the airport in the middle of my work day. It's over an hour round trip. I got to the airport location and explained my scenario. The employee could not have been less concerned (even with the open container story), and was clearly annoyed by me. She made a phone call to someone, hung up, then said they couldn't help me and I'd have to go back to the original location I'd picked up from. By this point, I've had the stinky smoke mobile for a week and a half and was extremely frustrated. I told her how both locations had told me to check with others, and that O'Fallon had specifically routed me to them. I said how it wasn't acceptable for me to go into the second weekend of driving my kids around in a smoke filled vehicle. All she responded with was "The gate is locked. I'll call them to open it." Even after my protest, she said the same thing. No response to my concerns. No acknowledgment that I'd actually even said anything. She then stood up and walked in the back. I didn't know if she was checking on something, or what, so I waited. As time ticked on, I realized that my work conference call was about to start. I asked multiple other employees if they knew where she went. Zero help. 15 minutes later, I asked an employee what they recommend. She said to drive to the Clayton location and ask for help. Even though they just said that Ballwin was the only location who could swap cars for me?! I finally ran out of time and had to leave to get on my call. The original employee never came back. She literally ghosted me. I called the customer service number and got passed from person to person. Eventually someone took my information and said they'd escalate to management. That was 10 days ago. Not a word from anyone. I've now been in this nasty car for almost THREE WEEKS. Hertz gave me a disgusting car that isn't fit for rental, and treated me like I am an inconvenience when I tried to remedy the scenario. And guess what? I'm STILL in the nasty, ash tray of a car. I drive all day for work, and have to sit in the nastiness. Absolutely egregious and unacceptable. I will NEVER use them again. Airport location employees, you are absolutely awful.

Not worth the headache, stress, and damaged credit score due to the nonstop additional charges to my card that I did not authorize. My $800 rental turned into $4,000. Absolute nightmare and scam. I had booked and paid 2 months in advance for the rental. After waiting in line for 2 hours at 3 in the morning, they told me that they had run out of the car I selected and provided me something completely different. A week after returning the rental they charged me an extra $2,000 for a late return even though I provided proof that I returned it on time. A month goes by and they are still going back and forth with me on the refund. My bank tells me that there's nothing they can do and that I'd have to take it up with the merchant. While waiting for the refund they claimed that I never paid for the rental in the first place so they charged me for the rental again. This makes absolutely no sense. How are you going to rent a car to someone and then have them pay for it 3 months later? After all that they tried to tell me that all the charges, $4,000 worth of charges is for the insurance I "signed up" for. All the receipts and paperwork I have for the rental very clearly states that I declined all the add ons.

It was about $50 a day for a sedan, and we had our pick of sedans. We went with a Hyundai Elantra. We were originally supposed to pick up the car at midnight Friday night, but our flights got so delayed that we didn't end up getting there until 2:30pm Saturday afternoon. We called to let them know and they said not to worry and that they hold reservations for 24 hours for that reason. We took the shuttle from the airport to the rental place, which was super convenient when we were exhausted and just wanted to be done with travel. We had two suitcases and two big moving boxes and they all fit on the luggage rack in the shuttle. We got to the rental place and were greeted by a friendly girl immediately. She worked with my partner to find and check in the reservation, then she showed us where to get our car. Once we got our car we were on our way. We didn't have any issues with the rental the whole time we had it. We prepaid for gas ($3.75/gal) and only used about half a tank during the trip. It was a bit tricky finding where to enter when we went to return the car. There is only one entrance for rental returns and it's not on the main street so it's easy to miss. We were tired and stressed and just wanted to get the car returned so we could get to the airport and struggling to find where to turn to return didn't help. Maybe better signage or communication would help, I'm not sure. The return process itself was very easy. We pulled up, got our stuff out, and the guy who met us there checked the car back in. The shuttle was about to leave but the driver saw us and waited which I really appreciated. He dropped us at the terminal and we were on our way. This was the second time I've used Alamo, the first being at the Phoenix airport. It was a smooth and easy process, and they didn't give us any issues. I'll probably keep using them as long as their prices remain competitive!

They take you out and give you a choice of vehicles. What kept this from being a 5-star review is that the counter was very understaffed. A busload of us were dropped off, and one staff member was working the counter. Another person sat behind a computer and waited on no one. She then packed her belongings and left. A few moments later, another person walked in, took the position, and we went from frozen molasses to molasses. Why this should not happen. Everyone on that bus had a reservation, and you gave them the flight number and your arrival time. They know how many renters are coming and the time. I would love to use the house insurance, but they charge way too much. Costco sells insurance that covers the car for a fraction of the cost. At checkout, the person warned us that if we had hail damage, we'd have to pay. Was this a scare tactic to force us to purchase the inflated insurance? Alamo is a subsidy of Enterprise Leasing.
