When I arrived to pick up my truck (they had already taken my money out of my account 2 days prior) they said they didn't have one. After making a few calls, they found a truck 35 min away which they wanted me to go pick up. 35 min there and back would have made me miss my mover appointment and to be out the 400 for the movers. They acted like they were doing me a favor to find the truck 70 minutes away and being out 400. Cancelled the reservation and went with U-Haul. Never ever use budget truck rental, especially this location. Attitude, no care for wasting my money, and awful service. Avoid at all cost!

The second ended badly…read more For a reason the counter employee nor Budget's own billing department can seem to explain, the reservation number and pricing I received from Budget's reservation call center was NOT honored at this Budget rental location. I prepaid the entire rental, but the location added their own pricing to the reservation when I went to pickup the car--totally excluding the discount and coupon the reservation call center previously accepted and programmed into my reservation. They applied my prepayment, but it was as if my discount and coupon were missing. This counts as fraud in my book. I'm still negotiating with Budget's billing department (multiple calls but the refund still hasn't "been submitted" yet). If I call my CC company and dispute the charge--in effect, refunding the additional charge back to my card--a Budget billing department employee said I would receive a "lifetime ban" from both Budget and AVIS (Avis and Budget are owned by the same company) and would never be able to rent from either company again. Something tells me this won't end well for me, and I strongly urge everyone using this location (probably any Budget rental) with caution.

When we got there, we were told that the Toyota Camry/Chevy Impala genre car we were led to believe we'd be getting was not available. The only two cars available were a KIA Soul which is at least two levels below what I'd reserved and prepaid, and a tiny Ford model. When I asked about a partial refund because they failed to provide the car I'd already paid for, I was told that there was nothing they could do at the downtown location and that I'd have to contact corporate headquarters about a partial refund. No offense, but Hertz has been computerized for many, many years. How difficult would it have been for the downtown St. Louis location to have printed out or perhaps just done online to determine what cars were reserved for the next day? They should be able to do that and then have the needed cars relocated from the airport location to downtown. After I returned the Soul which was OK but underpowered and returned home to Albuquerque, I contacted Hertz Customer Service. That was a very frustrating experience yielding absolutely no satisfaction. I was asked at one point if the rental was still open. Well, no, sorry but it ended several days ago. The customer service agent didn't ever explain what that question had to do with anything. Obviously, Hertz was paid for one thing and provided a much less valuable car and should have given at least a partial refund for failing to provide the contracted level car. Talking to this guy was like talking to the wall. I finally told him that I thought customer service agent was almost certainly not a good fit for him because he was an utter failure at providing any level of customer service. He said something like "I'm sorry you feel that way." So I just hung up. I later filed a written request for a partial refund online but I've never heard anything from Hertz in the month plus since I requested the partial refund. And I don't expect to ever hear anything from them. Needless to say, I won't ever be using Hertz again for my rental car needs.
