I reserved and picked up a car in May of this year. It was full of dents on nearly every side of the car. I went with the representative and documented all of the dents observed on the car before I left the lot.. the representative did not provide me with any record of their vehicle inspection. I dropped the car off in Ohio the next day without incident. Two months later, a rep from corporate is calling me, accusing me of causing the damage on the rental car, which I clearly did not do. both Avis corporate and this Avis site have been extremely unhelpful and uncooperative and sharing any of the vehicle inspection records associated with my rental that would clearly show that I do not cause any of the damage that they accused me of being very aware of renting from this Avis they clearly do not care about your customer satisfaction, and you can be charged a large repair bill for damages that you did not do. When they finally get a car it's filthy and they gave my workers smelled like smoke so bad he had to bring it back and the owner is so ruled. Bottom Line: Great service, convenient location. Loved our Ford Flex with a high mpg and so comfortable for five or more. Make sure to return the car full of gas or the "they fill it charge" is really high! Quick turnaround from walk in to drive out. Listen carefully to the contract when they explain it! We checked the car need to end and then discovered a windshield ding about the size of a half dollar- no stress though- we'd paid the extra $17 dollars a day just for minor issues like that. That's understandable, but they made no mention of this at the time of reservation. They also don't mention that they don't take debit cards. After I posted this review on Yelp a representative responded to my review and gave information on how to follow up with Avis about the issues I had. This was a total waste of my time. I followed up with Avis and they did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue. I disputed the Avis charge using my credit card company and after Visa reviewed the information they reversed the charges. Our reservation with Hertz down the street was a 'bust' because the place was abandon (no cars, nobody in the office 1/2 hour after opening, TV taken down off the wall). Why AAA let us make a reservation at a location that is closed is beyond me. So we called Avis/Budget and they had a car we could rent the same day. Eddie got us all set up and did a quick car wash before we left. I didn't catch the other female employee's name who was also very nice, but Eddie did us a solid by getting us on the road when Hertz dropped the ball. read more

I'm not sure why I didn't read the reviews before renting from here. I think the ladies here are genuinely nice people. With them working with the same people all of the time I'm sure brings on comfortability. And that's where the bad customer service comes from. Eddie doesn't know how to communicate with people. My contract was closed out and they charged me $118 in gas even though I brought it back full. Has anyone ever been charged a fee for extending the contract? Well they charged me. It's like he was adding on anything he could without giving me a chance to look over it and basically rushed me out of the establishment. GHETTO DOES NOT EVEN BEGIN TO DESCRIBE THIS LOCATION. On top of the shitty customer service (both at time of pick up and drop off) it smells like wet dogs inside of the store. The people who manage this location are unprofessional. The entire time I was waiting in line I witnessed the staff trying to upcharge each customer including myself. I booked through Costco.com with an additional driver included. The staff tried to tell me it would be an additional 13 dollars for another driver. I had to explain to her that it is free being a Costco member. The staff just rubbed me the wrong way and gave poor customer service in general with not knowing how to run the business efficiently. Ive always had great service with enterprise however this time Avis/Budget had a bit better of a price. Unfortunately a few weeks back my car got totaled and I made the horrible mistake of renting a car through this location. When I went to pick up the car, I asked for the least expensive vehicle option available and the lady working told me that I could have a Nissan Xterra at the same price as the compact cars available. The Nissan was given to me completely unwashed with cigarette burns on the interior. It also reeked of pot; I'm from Colorado where pot is legal so that's one smell I can always pick up on. The brakes were really squeeky but I gave it the benefit of the doubt since the roads were pretty icy for a couple days and I wasn't sure how the car was supposed to drive. I only thought I would have the car for 2-3 days but once I found out I would need the rental for an extended period, I called Avis to ask about long term deals. I was told that a monthly rate or long term rental rate wouldn't be worth getting since the "deal" I was getting would save me money. I called the location for several days in a row to try to discuss long term rental options and was put on hold for 20 minutes, asked to 'call back in an hour because he was too busy with other customers." I couldn't make it into the location before their 6 pm closing time and spent 3 days trying to call them to work something out. I returned the car 11 days later and paid $540 total for the rental. What an insane ripoff; online rates for longterm rentals were significantly less expensive. If you want: - to be insanely overcharged for a car rental - deal with staff who are vague and dodgy with all questions related to billing - be given a filthy vehicle in need of a tune-up - be placed on hold for 20 minutes each time you call Then this is your place to rent a car. read more

I showed up about 30 minutes after my reservation, and they said they gave the car away because I was late, and they didn't have any other ones. Really? Part 2 I had previously made my reservation, went in to pick up the car and didn't have the same credit card that I had booked the car with. The same counter person from my previous post states that there was nothing he could do. He explained that he needed that specific card. I live approximately 20 miles from this location and it was at the end of the day. My fault. I understood his position, so I was going to attempt to get the card and return before they closed. He stated that he would hold the car. My wife and i left raced toward home. As my wife searched her purse she discovered that she had taken the credit card that I made the reservation. We immediately turned around and went back to Avis . The guy stated that he had given the car away. We had not been gone longer that 8 mins. There were no customers in the store when we left and none when we returned. When my wife questioned him about the car he was saving for us he became very rude and threatening "Get our or I'll put you out" Needless to say I wasn't having it. An employee of mine got a verbal quote from a manager at this location. When we arrived the price had gone up and the woman there got the manager on the phone. He refused to talk to my employee regarding the price change that had occurred. Very shady operation 4 Royal Oak. The same manager told me at one time that they can charge anything they want for their vehicles and that is depends on demand and supply. I would think that that would be reasonable if this wasn't a franchise store. There are rates that Avis advertises and that I believe their franchisees need honor. Not so here! The manager told me he had rented a high in car for 3 or $400 a day. I think they should have their franchise revoked. If you have to do business with these clowns be sure that you get a written quote emailed to you. First the good stuff: quality staff overall, hard workers, very busy but handle themselves well. Selection of different vehicles is solid, many different brands, sizes, etc. Good location in relation to Royal Oak customers. Here's the tough stuff: store interior & exterior is pretty ratty..needs a major upgrade. No on site carwash therefore you will not receive a clean vehicle, although interior is normally in decent shape. Car selection is good as mentioned but many times the units are in need of service & you cannot rent. read more

I checked out car rental prices for Avis online before going into this location. Online I was quoted $250 for the duration of the rental, from this location. When I went into the rental office I told the young man at the desk I wanted the cheapest rental they had. He gave me a price of $350. After telling him I had checked prices online he questioned if the Internet price was for his location. After telling him, yes, $250 was for his location, he changed his story and said "Ohh well that price is for the smallest car option." Really dude!? Did I ask for a specific size? No. No I did not. In the end I got the $250 price but I really hate being lied to. If I ask for the cheapest option I expect to be given the cheapest option. When I returned the car there was a young woman working and she was very kind and made the return a pleasant experience. read more

The owner has no interest in helping their customer when their credit card reader would not read the magnetic strip on the card. The card has a chip and his old tech did not have this advanced security feature. My company requires that I use their corp card for all business. When that card would not work he said to use another card and he would call Avis after the rental to change the card to my corp card. When I asked him to do that up front, he said no and that it was my problem the card would not work. He had no intention of calling Avis and lied to get me to use another card. I made a reservation online. Without you knowing, there is an additional cost added to your car rental deposit for prepaying your rental online. It doesn't tell you that at first. When I called to make sure the store I was picking up from did indeed have the vehicle I'd reserved I asked about the cost of the deposit. I hadn't rented a car in a long time. The store clerk told me about the additional fee at that time. I went back and tried to cancel the payment through Amazon which is where the payment was processed. Amazon offered to end the merchant agreement but did not provide clarity on pending payments. I called the store early the next morning hoping to find a way to resolve my issue. Bad move. The store Owner was not helpful nor was he trying to be. His manner was oh well too bad for you. He even jokingly added something about getting my eyes together. The reservation Id made was for a family member. I was thoroughly insulted at this point and decided someone else should take over. I listened to the call my relative made on speaker and again the Owners lack of concern came shining through. All he cared about is what his store was making. Again he was dismissive and rude. We went to the store. In dealing with his rudeness we hadn't addressed the money we'd already paid. In the store the Owner refrained from snide remarks and nasty comments he feigned surprise at why I was upset. He offered a pamphlet with a number to call for a refund. This person doesn't belong in this community. His business is not representative of the multitude of merchants in this area. It felt scammy. Why would Avis/Budget penalize customers for paying early? Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever received...anywhere. The process to get a car took insanely long...they were extremely understaffed, but the worker made it worse with his attempt at multitasking. He stopped on my order multiple times to begin another...never completing any one person's need. The credit check and debit card policy that others have mentioned is beyond silly. I also had an insurance claim for $30/day...the ONLY car they had available apparently was $1.25 more a day, or so I was told. I agreed to it. Upon returning the car I was charged $96...the $1.25 per day turned out to be $4+ (they neglected to mention taxes and fees when telling me it would be $1.25). PLUS $9 for a gallon of gas...which I dispute because I drove maybe 10 miles after filling up. I blame myself for not checking the reviews BEFORE renting from there. DO NOT EVER RELY ON AVIS!!!!!! I don't even know where to begin. My husband and I were responsible for hosting a bachelor and bachelorette party on June 20th, 2015. I called and rented a 12 passenger van in April 2015 and my husband called a few weeks later and also rented a 12 passenger van. We both called back 2 or so times to verify the details/ask about insurance. My husband received a conformation email for both vehicles on June 18th, 2015. We both had a pick up time at noon on June 20th, 2015. We arrive at Avis located at Avis at said time. Upon entering, a gentleman named Ahmid (spelling?) asked what he could do for us. We told him that we were there to pick up our 2 reserved twelve passenger vans. He quickly replied with "Ohh...Yeah...We don't have those vans...You see my lot? It's empty" So I proceeded to ask when the vans would be available as we are on time limit and had to leave for the parties shortly. In which he replied "Yeah, we tried contacting Avis last night to get cars but my lot is empty. I have 36 cars going out today and none showed up". After going back and fourth demanding answers, he literally had none. It was now approaching 1:00p.m. so his best suggestion was to call around and hope another rental place would have 12 passenger vans available. In the meantime, my husband contacts Avis' 800 number and is looking for a better answer and for the two vans that were desperately needed. He spoke to a women and her reply was "Well if the people who had rented out the vans keep them past their due date then we are able to charge them more money to keep them so I am sorry but we make more money on those customers" and literally didn't even attempt to resolve or help him. We had literally an hour to make alternative arrangements for 24 people. I emailed Avis a half a dozen times and every single time, I received a canned email back as their response. They offered to send me a gift certificate for a 1/4 of the cost of one van to use at their location again. I certainly would never ever accept that as I will NEVER use Avis again. I strongly advice using Hertz or another reliable company. Avis is not reliable whatsoever and didn't even attempt to resolve these major issues we had. read more

I came to visit a friend and it was the first time for me to rent from Avis and the last time (due to bad costumer care that I had) 1- the person was rude and he did not have any information about reserving in Costco travel and paying in American Express and when I was telling him he refused to listen to me and I had to call the company to convince him that I'm saying the truth. 2- I reserved the dirtiest car that I ever drove in my life (going to add picture and prove it) 3- after doing a complain about this in the main office of Avis, they guy from this place called me saying and I quote "why did you complain about me, I was so nice and I answered all your question" really??? The worst customer service I've received thus far! I booked and prepaid for a rental directly through them using my debit card. Upon arrival to pick up I was told by an employee named Oula that although I prepaid she would need $100 deposit which I agreed to. As she went on to process the rental she stated it was policy to do a credit check for all debit card rentals and I'd need a credit card. After finding out I didn't have a credit card on me (I didn't expect to pay anything since I prepaid) she immediately changed her tone, got rude, & handed me my DL & debit card back stating I could go across the street while calling the next customer up. This customer addressed her being rude and she ignored it asking for his ID. When I tried asking about my refund she consistently spoke over me in a very rude tone telling me to call customer service without allowing me to speak. I remained indoors and called customer service for both a refund and a complaint. She asked me to get out (in freezing cold weather) when I began my complaint process and called the police. I exited waiting for the police who arrived, the police agreed with me & asked her why I couldn't get answers for a refund. The police then apologized on her behalf after seeing how rude she was and asked if I needed a ride home encouraging me not to handle business there again. I also kept customer support on the phone who as well took note of the situation, apologized for her unprofessionalism, refunded my money, and offered me a credit for future use. This is the worst Avis Location I have ever worked with. I rented from them in June of this year and the attendant handed me a receipt of my charges told me the gas was full. My Bill was XXX and I receive my Credit Card Bill today 7/13 and release I was charged $349 More. No No No What a Joke then Call the national office and they tell me they will reimburse me but not the $55 Dollars. What a Joke. Will never recommend and Never use avis again. When we ran into car trouble in the frigid weather, we were fortunate to get a rental in a pinch, just for the 15 min drive to work. We figured out a transportation plan for the second rental day and decided to turn the car in early to save ourselves $50. We gassed up and arrived at 9:15 to return the vehicle. The worker stated that because it was after 9:00, there would be a $40 hourly rate added to the bill. Being that we are somewhat regular, local, and loyal customers to this branch location, it would be nice to have consideration for the weather, our situation, etc. and be given a break for the 15 minute window of time that lapsed. The customer service at this location is disappointing and it's not recommended for anyone looking to rent a vehicle. read more

before going to avis located in royal oak, mi, located on woodward ave, i read so meany bad reviews. i started not to pick my car up at this location. i had to go to this location because it saved me time. when i arrived, i was greeted with a very kind response. the service i received was not what i expecte4d. all the reviews were negative. i was glad that i took a change and went into this location. the service manager waited on me immediately. he spent time explaining everything to me in detail. i believe if a company gives you good service, they should be congraduated. i am giving avis, located on woodward in royal oak an (a+). read more

If the negative posts on here are true I can tell you that this place has really turned it around. The inside looks brand new and the staff is excellent. The car that I supposed to drive had a crack in the windshield and the staff immediately upgraded me to another vehicle without me even mentioning the crack. I will likely be suing this company in the very near future. I have rented through Budget dozens of times over the last two years or so, as an owner of a small business. Most of my experiences have been superb. However this location of Avis, which is also a Budget location has been anything but professional. The first time I went there to rent there no one was there. I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to return so I could complete my rental. That should have been a sign right there. Horror kept going from there....last big one was a ridiculous charge for "cleaning"--after I was upset they put a bogus extra hour for a late fee after the windshield wipers failed and I didn't make it back to the location exactly at 5:03-which is when I left the lot. When I told the CS rep I would NEVER rent from this location again, she obviously decided to spite me and put this bogus charge on there. There only reason I've rented from them is because of the convenience of the location and the fact I've had an overall positive experience with Budget, but I will NEVER rent from this location again AND I may NEVER rent from Budget depending on how they handle this case. Also...this location seems to take forever to release my holds. I never write reviews, but this is one exception. STAY AWAY from there if you can.BTW- I would have given ZERO stars if that was possible. read more
