This way to AVIS...
Nadine C.

Renting a car in Los Angeles, California... In November 2023, I had a car reservation for a really low price at Long Beach Airport (LGB). It was less than $300! However, Avis Car Rental at LGB closed promptly at 10pm. Our flight was delayed. By the time I walked over to the Car Rental Center after retrieving my luggage, Avis had closed. I was stranded! In a panic, I called Avis, and all they could do was transfer my reservation to a later date. Luckily, I knew that I was returning to Los Angeles for a concert on January 6, 2024, so I moved my car reservation from November to January. Fast forward to December 2023, the flight to Long Beach was sold out. I couldn't get a seat on the plane! I changed my flight to Ontario International Airport (ONT), which Avis also serves. Everything at ONT went well. I found the free shuttle that stops at Terminal 2, Terminal 4, parking lot 6, and the Rental Car Facility. The gentleman at the Avis counter was efficient and polite. There was just one customer ahead of me, and they were done in a few minutes. I was surprised that I received no paper contract. I walked to the designated parking stall, found the key fob in the car's cup holder, and drove off to the exit. I just showed my driver's license! Returning the car was alright. I drove slowly and missed the entrance for Avis on the first pass. The arrow is pointed upwards instead of to the left. LOL! I found it on the 2nd try. Whew! I will search for the lowest priced Rental Car again for my next visit in May 2024, using Auto Slash (Dan O.'s method) and maybe I will see that Avis has the best rate again. In the meantime, I should sign-up and become an Avis Preferred Member!

As a preferred member I was helped fairly quickly when I stood in line . I was here to pick up my car and didn't see the notice that my car was ready in the app and when I walked to the kiosk board just to see if it was posted there , it didn't . At the in person help desk was brisk and friendly personal . I had an issue with the car at pick up , the car had a smell of cigarettes odor. I took the car home anyway and figured the smell should disappear with the windows rolled down and odor spray over night . During our drive the cigarettes still lingers. My headaches were getting worse. I called the customer service while on the road and was eventually transferred to Kadesha, she was professional and helpful in finding our nearest Avis rental at our next destination city . At the new rental location fresno ca airport , the process was effortless and quick . Thank you Avis and their employees for making the transition and our rental experience hassle free .

There's no one answering the phones. There's no direct line. I finally got a live representative and the number they told me to call is no longer in service. Avis gave me and my family a vehicle that is dirty, has food smeared inside, smells like cigarettes and is causing the children to have breathing problems and creating a very unpleasant and nauseating ride for all of us. Turo would have answered our calls and equipped the vehicle with a care kit that would improve the quality of the air if needed. #Takeyourbusinesselsewhere

Okay, I use Avis most of the time for my work, and I don't have a problem with the rental cars. My problem with this location was today, that the signage was confusing. There were two lines but, not signs where located by one line. So we assumed that Avis & Budget work together like I have experienced in other locations--St. Louis for example. A costumer in front of me taught so to, but when he walked to the counter he was told it was the wrong one. Good thing I listened in to the conversation so I made my way quickly to the so called Avis line. The costumer ended up behind me in the line that only had gotten longer since we waited in the so called Budget line. To make a long story short. The Avis line was still long and the Budget line was no more. To our surprise the Budget people started to call people in the Avis line and help them. WHAT?! Very confusing, and unprofessional. I was helped by Avis but the customer who was told by Budget he was in the wrong line....you guest it, was helped by Budget. Common Man!

A minivan shortage hit all local stores because of the Plymouth recall, forcing me to go to the airport location because they were the only ones left with minvans. They had one reserved for me for my roadtrip. They have a large selection of vehicles here. Most of the vehicles here had very few miles on it. I wish that my local Enterprise had a fraction of the cars that they had. So what's the problem? When the rental agent asked me where I was going, I was told that they could not rent to me because I was going out of the country. I know that the USA/Mexico border is a few hours away, but, you can't assume every border crossing is not allowed. I had to explain their contract to them, and show them their FAQ's about driving into Canada. I got my car. I didn't violate my contract. They gave me very good cars the two times I visited. I'll be back when the local offices doesn't have a car for me, or if I want a newer car for a roadtrip. No, I won't cross the southern border.

Things got even worse after we returned the car. My husband accidentally left his wallet inside the vehicle. We realized it the next morning, which means whoever cleaned or handled the car after return had access to it. My husband immediately went to the Alamo Ontario location the next day, around 8:00 a.m., and the staff told him the wallet was not there. I then filed a lost item claim online around 8:15 a.m. Strangely, at 3:30 p.m., we suddenly received a call saying the wallet had been "found." This entire experience felt dishonest and extremely unprofessional. Trying to contact the Ontario office was nearly impossible, and there is no direct corporate number to properly escalate concerns. The lack of accountability is unacceptable. Now I have to take time off work and return in person just to file a complaint. Horrible customer service from start to finish. I will NEVER rent from this location again, and I strongly suggest others avoid it as well. Alamo needs to hire employees with integrity and create a system where customers can actually hold locations accountable when issues happen. I am extremely disappointed. I will not return to this location!

This was very convenient! I booked a vehicle equivalent to a Corolla and when I got there they wanted to give me a Mustang. My son has a wheelchair stroller and it doesn't fit in the back. The service was great. The price was competitive. The car was clean. It was dark outside when I picked it up so I made a video walk through of the vehicle. The process went smooth. So far, I'm happy with my experience.

Compared with other companies, Thrifty had the best rate and only involved one shuttle to the rental car facility. (Read carefully if two shuttles are needed.) When I got to Ontario International Airport, I walked outside, crossed the street, and went to the curb where the shuttle stopped. The ride to the rental car facility seemed like it took just a few minutes. Thrifty shares the building with other companies. There was just one customer in front of me, and Avi at the desk was efficient. He was quite conversational and pleasant. However, when I got to the assigned stall, it was empty. I dragged my suitcase and backpack across the lot to make sure that I was at the correct lot before I went back inside the facility. Luckily, Avi was still there. I told him that there was no car in stall #76. He apologized and found me another car. I told him that it was kinda dark outside at 11 p.m., and the dry summer heat in July wasn't helping. Oh, well... at least I got a hybrid car! Returning the vehicle was no problem. I filled up a quarter tank at Costco in Rancho Cucamonga. The gal that checked me in was professional and quick! I caught the shuttle back to the airport with no drama.

The rental agent pointed to an area on the form and told her she needed to sign that she was declining the additional insurance which she did. When she arrived home she noticed an additional charge for $171.32 on the credit card so she called Fox and spoke with a customer service agent who spoke broken English and was difficult to understand. My wife explained to her what had occurred and the agent told her that she had signed in the area requesting additional insurance and they would not refund the money. It's very obvious that the rental agents work on commission and victimize travelers that are tired and in a hurry. This is the first time we have been victimized by an unscrupulous car rental agency. I would advise you not to use Fox Car Rentals because of this criminality. Fox Rental could easily review their video system which would prove what happened. We did report this to Expedia so they are aware. Before you make a reservation with Fox scroll through the customer complaints on yelp and other travel rating sites. There is a reason they are rated 1.5 stars.
