First class service from Avis Miami Downtown! From beginning to end, my experience with the Avis Miami team was exceptional. Andy was waiting for us when we arrived at the Brightline station. He had even texted ahead of time to confirm our arrival time so he could be there when our train pulled in. Talk about first-class service! After traveling, having someone already there and ready for you makes such a difference. Plus they gave me an upgrade without asking! The return was just as easy. Samuel was fantastic! I had made an error with my rental, and instead of making it a stressful situation, Samuel stepped in, took care of everything, and turned my mistake into a win-win situation. I really appreciated his professionalism, patience, and willingness to help. The entire process was fast and easy, but it was the people who really made the experience. Andy and Samuel are wonderful representatives of Avis and customer service at its best. Thank you to the Avis Miami team for taking such great care of us. I will definitely rent from this location again! read more

Terrible Avis Experience I had a disappointing experience with Avis car rental in Miami. They claimed to offer a shuttle from the port to their location, but after waiting for over an hour in the heat on hard pavement with no where to sit, the shuttle never arrived. Their phone system was unhelpful and their corporate office took over the call with people answering that can't resolve any location issues, and I couldn't reach anyone at the location. I tried for the last 35 minutes repeatedly from the hard pavement. Eventually, I had to pay peak taxi rates to get there. They could at least update their answering service if there was no shuttle today and save people pain. Once I arrived, there was only one staff member working the desk, resulting in an hour-long wait. Hours of my vacation time was wasted on Avis' distinction, and I hope the car will at least be clean, unlike my previous rental no cleaned of grease a food particles from the previous rental. I would hesitate to use Avis again. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My family reserved a van well in advance, but when we arrived, we stood in line only to watch employees give the vans we needed to people who were behind us. One customer was even handed a van without realizing she had one reserved, while we were told to keep waiting. To make matters worse, the manager walked away when we tried to speak with him instead of addressing the situation. We ended up waiting over 3 1/2 hours in the scorching Miami heat just to get the van we had reserved. The entire experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and incredibly frustrating. Reserving a vehicle ahead of time should mean something. I would not recommend this company based on how poorly they handled our reservation and customer service. read more

This location is still terrible, it's not capable of handling cruise ship customers at high volumes. Lines are always long. Service is poor. I can hear the workers cursing and having bad attitudes with customers. If you can void this place, avoid it unless you want to stand in line for an hour then wait on the care for another hour. Very very bad . read more

Long lines and terrible service. The location was understaffed, leading to long wait times and a frustrating experience. Poor organization and no sense of urgency. Would not recommend. Shuttles don't pick you up for hours. We waited and two shuttles passed by within an hour and a half, both full. I ran after each one and both were filled up with passengers from previous two terminals. Ended up getting an Uber. Two-hour wait there, and a very defensive representative screaming at customers that he was doing 'his best' and that we should stay in line quietly because any request for more help resulted in an angry conversation that he was doing 'his best.' It was exhausting, and I canceled my reservation and took uber to the destination overpaying twice. read more

I reserve one-star reviews to highlight atrocious customer service. Did we wait over an hour to pick up our car? Yes. Was the place completely understaffed? Absolutely - though that's the fault of the store owners trying to make a profit, not the hardworking employee (there was only one) behind the counter working as hard as he could. Does every other Avis except this one allow expedited check out for preferred members? Also yes. But this place deserves one star because of the shuttle bus driver: We were taking the courtesy shuttle back to this car rental location. Upon arrival, the shuttle driver announced "don't forget your driver!" We tipped him, and proceeded to unload our luggage from the van (the driver did not help with that). While we were waiting in the hour long line, there was a family who spoke German and minimal English who had gotten off the same shuttle. The driver (a larger, middle age male who was not wearing a name tag) went up to them and said "you haven't given me a tip yet." The poor lady tried to explain that she didn't have any cash (it sounded like she may have just arrived into the country) and opened her coin purse to show that she didn't have any cash, just a few coins. The driver proceeds stick out his open palm and demand that the lady empty her coin purse into his hand. While I agree that workers need to be compensated appropriately, this was absolutely not the right way to do it. Avis, I expect you to address this issue with your employee at this location. read more

Avoid this location at all costs. We returned a car here on February 16, 2026 on our way to a cruise. We dropped off the car at 12:45 pm. The line for the shuttle was so long that we decided to take an Uber, which ironically, may provide evidence to get out of the scam I am getting ready to describe. This location does not have enough parking spots, so they use a private lot across the street which is managed by PPM, Professional Parking Management. I selected the Uber at 12:51 pm and the driver arrived at 12:55 pm. Evidently at 12:58 pm, an Avis employee moved this car across the street into that private lot after we had already returned it, but Professional Parking Management sent me a parking ticket two months later for $120. I disputed the charge on their website but they still charged my card. When I did a search on their website for my parking violation, there was another identical charge for the same vehicle five days later, so this is obviously a common scam they are operating. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and to no surprise, their BBB rating is an F. Consider yourself warned. Even though this charge is not coming directly from Avis, Avis needs to correct this parking situation. I will never use this location ever again. read more

Not sure what to say about this Avis location in Miami Downtown - accessible to cruise travellers too. Stopped by this location to pickup our car and the line was already way out the door onto the street. Finally stood for more than 45 mins js to head to the counter get verified and pickup the right car. Avis - this location is highly understaffed. The 2 folks there are managing things to the best of their ability. But this is a popular location so clearly they could use additional help. This will benefit both your staff and your customers who wont have to wait that long either. Overall one of the smaller avis locations I have ever been to. read more

DO NOT ISE THIS LOCATION AFTER A CRUISE. Arrived in Miami port after my weeklong cruise. They had a shuttle that picked us up right outside the terminal. Thought this was great. That was the only good part of the experience. Got dumped outside the office only to wait in line for more than 30 minutes. No preferred line and although I booked my car weeks ago, I am I was told it would be at least another hour or more wait. People arrived at 8 am were still waiting for cars at 10am. We opted to cancel the reservation. Shame on Avis for accepting rentals and not have any cars for your customers. Horrible way to return from vacation. read more

Poor communication and lack of info from AVIS! We reserved with AVIS because they "Provided a shuttle from Port Miami" to get our rental car upon returning from our first family cruise. When the shuttle arrived, the driver asked: "Downtown, or Airport?" We said "Downtown". So we get dropped off at AVIS downtown Miami. Then, after waiting in line a solid 30 min or more, I am told they do not have our reservation, and that we ( my wife, myself, and our 2 kids) have to WALK 4 to 5 city blocks, WITH OUR LUGGAGE, to find "the OTHER" AVIS location DOWNTOWN?!? So, we walk. And walk. And walk. We end up having to get an UBER to drive us another mile or two to the OTHER AVIS location, which is quietly tucked away in the corner of a building with NO OUTDOOR SIGNAGE - Making it almost IMPOSSIBLE to find!!!! Then, we have to WAIT, because WE were late?!? And then had to pay another $10 bucks to drive the car out of THEIR parking garage!?! Then THEY said THEY have NO shuttle? NEVER AGAIN AVIS! read more

This has been the day from hell due to Avis. Everytime I call customer service I get a different answer regarding our car that was towed. I understand the tow is our fault due to missing a street sign. However we have Uber'd to two different Avis locations after being promised a vehicle and then got denied both times. I have now wasted an entire day of my vacation and I will not be renting from Avis again. read more

Once again I had a very positive experience, unlike some other posters. I'm a local who needed a car for the weekend and showed up at 2:15PM on a Saturday afternoon to pick up a car and the entire process was smooth with no wait. Guess the trick is to come here when you can avoid 10 cruise ship customers arriving and wanting to rent at the same time. I also read that this location chronically ran out of cars but such was not the case for me and Avis gave me a nice Chrysler 300 sedan. Turning in the car was also a breeze. Special shout out to Shante for her excellent customer service. I would like think my hassle free experiences here is due to my charm and good looks, but I possess neither. read more

I have had the worst experience renting from Avis and I never will never use them again. I reserved a vehicle to drive from south beach to Miami FL. I was afraid of a long wait, so I did all the paperwork ahead of time. when I arrived I had to then stand at the desk for an additional 45 minutes. something that seemed unnecessary and a waste of my time. They told me that the vehicle I had reserved is not available. Instead of giving me a discounted rate or getting me a similar vehicle, they gave me something that was way smaller than what I needed at the same rate. My family and I used the vehicle and returned it. when we returned the vehicle we proceeded to get on a shuttle. The driver crammed an excessive amount of people and luggage into the van and proceeded to head to the cruise port. The driver and company clearly does not put a value on safety of its customers. After our cruise Avis said they would have a shuttle at the port to pick us up, bringing us back to the rental car location. They advertise having a shuttle every 15-30 minutes..... a very reasonable timeline when people have flights to catch. Instead we waited for 1.5hours only for the shuttle driver to tell us that he can only take 4 people. For a company who runs a multi billion dollar corporation this is unacceptable. Because of their lack of shuttles, we almost missed our flight. Avis has not taken any responsibility for their lack of planning or lack of keeping A reservation. I would like to be compensated for my time wasted as well as the hassle they have put me through. read more

If I could give it a zero I would. I am a preferred member and have never seen anything like this. Waited for the cruise shuttle for 1.5 hrs that never came. Paid for an Uber than waited another hour to get our car. They are not staffed to deal with the business. Horrible... Don't pick up the phone when you call either. read more

Echoing other reviews, this place is beyond horrible. When I checked out my rental the attendant was very rude when I merely inquired about how to return it later. This location with agent KURSHANTE is absolutely horrible. She is rude, disrespectful, and needs to be proud of the job she chose for herself and do better. Was supposed to be a good idea renting a car to take us home after a cruise. They advertise a shuttle to pick you up from the cruise port but after waiting an hour....supposed to come every 1/2 hr....we had to finally get an Uber. Then when we arrived we waited in line for over 30 mins, then found out car wasn't ready even though we are Avis Preferred. Preferred means nothing at this location. Ended up waiting another 30 mins for car to be cleaned. We spent 2 hours longer than we should have had to plus the cost of an Uber. Very small location with only 2 employees. Update...got in the car and only had 1/4 tank of gas so now we have another delay. read more

worst customer service on the planet. No cars available. The sales team is so rude and they are very irresponsible.

Everything. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION! An hour wait in line just to get in the building. Then another 30+ minutes. People told their car isn't available. This is horrible. I wish I had read the reviews before I booked from here. I will never do this again. And will never rent for Avis again read more

This place disgusts me. Do not rent from this location. On July 30th I arrived at 9am to pick up my car rental. Our reservation is for 9am. Not only was our rental not ready, the woman behind the counter was EXTREMELY rude. I told her that our reservation is at 9am and asked why our car was not ready, I even offered to take a smaller car if it would help. With not even a single apology for our inconvenience, she pretty much told me to suck it up and there was people here before me and they had earlier reservations. Which is fine but why are their cars not ready if their reservation was at 8am? I talked to the other people that were waiting, they all had PAID reservations made weeks prior. This is NOT how you run a business. Reservations are made ahead of time for a reason. Customer service does not seem like a priority for this location, especially for the woman behind the counter. Oh and on top of everything we had to take an Uber to get there because the shuttle bus driver took other customers, leaving us out there to wait. We have already waited over half an hour for this shuttle. I ended up canceling the reservation after an hour at that location and called an Uber to take me to the airport's car rental. read more

This location seems horrible on 12/23/2023. We have been here for about an hour. Line was to the door when we got here about ten people ahead of us. Now it's out in the streets and down the road. We have a reservation. No preferred line at this location. The shuttle didn't come to the cruise port like they said so we took a cab. Thank goodness because that put us a little further ahead. Status report from inside is they don't have the cars available they reserved to people and customers are livid. I am hearing from my brave man inside standing in the line that the two representatives inside have hella attitudes and act as if there is not a ginormous line and are taking their sweet time. I am just hopeful we will get the SUV we rented and can get out of here. Hungry kiddos with us. Okay I'm hungry too. Not a great way to end a cruise especially when the reservation was made in advance but AVIS won't get us down! Same situation for all the folks here, I'm sure. Good luck, everyone! Recommend you don't use this car company or at least don't use this location...maybe book further away from port. Update: So thankful we got the vehicle but wow it looks like it was in an accident. Dented and scratched and smells like weed. Status inside the Avis was confirmed... it was his turn in line, he told her his name and she said your stuff is right here, just a sec and for two minutes he had to wait while she just went through a list of other peoples names and was highlighting them VERY slowly and then she gave him the keys and said he could go. Good luck everyone! read more

This was the worst rental car experience of my life, and I am Avis President's Club and have been renting from them for years, all over North America. Let's just skip over the fact that I waited by their shuttle pickup sign at the Port of Miami for 45 minutes, reassured by their recording that a shuttle would arrive every 20-30 minutes, before a security guard finally told me that Avis does not pick up there anymore, so I had to Uber. Filthy location, bad neighborhood, no automated pickup for my online reservation -- so I had to stand in line and fill out paperwork like it was the 1950's for over an hour. Staff was rude, and wouldn't even allow me to use their restroom -- they referred me to a filthy porta-potty in the parking lot across the street that was surrounded by homeless people. I just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could, but I couldn't leave because the attendant was training a new guy, and had to pause and explain everything to him in detail. She even questioned me for PROOF that I work at my company, in order to get the corporate discount, which has never happened to me in 20+ years. I will never return to this location, and would even rent from a competitor where I have zero status to avoid having to come back here. These people acted inconvenienced by the fact that I simply wanted to rent a car. Save yourself the time and trouble, and just stay away from this one. (I don't write many reviews, but I promised my wife that I would write one for this, because it was just so comically ridiculous) read more

Waited over an hour at the port for the shuttle to come and pick us up when we were told it would take 5-10 minutes by the driver. Turns out there is only one driver going back and forth. Then we had to wait two hours to actually get the car when we were told it would take 45 minutes!! This place is terrible. Why are people still renting from this place??? Even if you have a reservation they will make you wait. There is barely any room to wait inside and they only have four chairs inside. All the rest are outside in the 90 degree heat. Most people took cabs or Ubers since they could not wait any longer and were going to miss their flights. I would think for a place with such long wait times they would have a better waiting area. Their ac isn't that great either, but it's better than outside. The floor inside is also really dirty. I set my bag down and my stuff had weird orange stuff on it when I picked it up. I also saw bugs crawling on the floor and crumbs everywhere. I do not blame the workers at this location since they cannot control this sort of situation it seems they are being set up for failure. read more

Clearly these reviews do nothing to deter this establishment from reserving cars they don't have. Can you imagine the training? "Yeah, give them a car and when they show up, tell them it's not here. No sweat. It's not like they can go anywhere else." I don't know whose fault it is and don't care. If it's lazy customers returning cars late, buy more inventory instead of crossing your fingers and pretending this won't fall through like the last 100 "reservations" you scheduled. I'm talking to people that made this reservation for 90-120 minutes ago and are still waiting. No cars available. I will note, the male employee was understanding but there's no changing this business model. read more

We have been Avis customers for many years, so we are well aware of their standards. This was a huge disappointment. After disembarking from a wonderful cruise, took a shuttle to this location to pick up our car scheduled for 10 AM. Sadly, like the many other reviews, we had to wait for hours outside on the sidewalk, and no cars were available, and were told it would be 15 to 30 minutes. Finally called Avis, changed the reservation to airport for pick up and took an Uber there. How I wish I had read the reviews before using this location. Apparently, this wasn't just a fluke but the normal way they handle business here. It was so disappointing and big waste of time. read more

So this is how it works. We arrived before they opened and the one employee arrived 5 minutes late. She could careless and strolled from her car. Once you come in you "check-in" with the clerk and she will call your name when they have a car. There is no guarantee they will have a car and the time you made the reservation for is not a promised time. The employee is blunt, can careless about your time, and tells you to sit than yells next. If you want to see how to not run a business stop by and just watch for 5 minutes. It became humorous that Avis still employees her but she really shows how much the company cares about their business. read more

RUN AWAY! DO NOT BOOK WITH AVIS IN MIAMI EVEN IF IT IS FREE!!!! I am speechless at how horrible this place is. A reservation means nothing and if you don't come in 15 minutes before closing you are SOL and have to go to the airport to drop off your car. Employees are lazy, rude and have zero customer service skills and corporate is insanely disorganized. How do you take a half dozen reservations for passenger vans for 12-15 passengers each (meaning around 75 people, including babies and children, waiting outside your location) and then fail to bring a single van? Some people needed them for very long rides and after a cruise, you do not want to be waiting with no way home. Zero offers for alternatives even when people begged for any other option so they could go home. Their answer was a shrug and "you just have to wait, we have no information and don't have any idea when we will get any information." The worst run business let alone car rental business I have ever seen. I luckily was not hard pressed in need of a rental car or I would have been fuming. I was however furious days earlier when I had rented two cars and due to Miami traffic one only arrived right before closing. However they couldn't take two minutes to check the car and get the keys and instead claimed all their computers were turned off (which they started doing way before closing) and we had to go to the airport.
