This is the second time I rented from Avis in Belmont. Both times I worked with Yuri. I received outstanding and friendly service from him both times. Most recently I needed to rent an AWD for my trip to Tahoe and the reservations do not guarantee that. I spoke to Yuri about it a few days earlier and while he is at the mercy of what is available that day, he made it work and it was a life saver. Despite how busy he is, he is consistently friendly and I appreciate it. He deserves recognition for trying to accommodate his customers as best he can which is not always the case at other rental places. His office has become my regular rental location because of my experiences. Caveats: He is the only one staffing the place so if there are a lot of people, you need to be patient. read more

The Indian looking guy gave us a really bad attitude. He told me it was free to test drive a vehicle then he tried to charge me 35 dollars for a 10-minute test drive. I checked my bank account and the guy charged me 40 dollars for a test drive I refused. So, he lied to me and wasted my time. I will escalate this with your corporate. I hope this guy can continue to make his minimum wage and rot in hell. read more

Can't even tell you how disappointed I am in this location. The sole employee has recently changed, as have the hours. Until recently, they were open until 6 PM, but with the staff change, they now close at 5 PM. So, I made a reservation here, as I've done dozens of times before. I used the online system to make a 5 PM reservation -- which I've done in the past. By the way, the system won't let you book a time for closing time or after -- the online reservation still thinks this location closes at 6 PM. When I showed up, at exactly 5 PM, I saw the employee pulling out from the parking lot. He looked at me, saw me, looked away, and sped away from me. I found the door locked and no one there to rent the car from. I got home and called Budget national and was told their computer system was down, "Call back some other day." I called back two hours later and was told that I the location was closed when I showed up, so my reservation was void, and I had to rebook at 4 times the cost. I refused, and was told they were not going to honor my reservation. I'm so sad that this location, which has previously been great, has become so terrible. I can't imagine renting from the location -- a joint Avis/Budget location -- again. read more

Giving this place one star is a little over the top...I have never been treated so badly from a rental car company in my life! The lack of business standards and customer service at this place is absurd! After booking a rental car reservation through priceline, I assumed this company was going to be decent, because in the past Priceline has always done me right... I had the mechanic that was going to be working on my car all week, drop me off at Avis. As soon as I got there the guy at the counter ran my card and told me that he could not rent a car to me! Even though I had more than enough funds in the bank, he claimed that it had something to do with how long I've had the credit card. I just recently got a new card, because the last one I had was stolen! Not only did he refuse to rent me a car, he told me I could call the company to work it out and come back. Are you kidding me? Why would have the slightest bit of loyalty or persistence to such a person or company?! To top it off, not only would he not rent me a car, he did not offer me a shuttle ride or any way of getting back home! This place was not remotely close to anyone or anything, so I was stranded at the car rental place and the guy didn't even care. I called Enterprise, who came and picked me up! I wound up renting a car from them for the entire week, no problems. Enterprise was a couple dollars more a day, but well worth it! read more

The office is consistently under staffed. They are always in a rush and corners get consistently cut from the wrong rate charged to the wrong Avis wizard number entered to cars not being washed. To provide even decent customer service you have to have enough staff. You also have to make sure you have competent, friendly staff. For the most part the Avis Belmont staff is competent and friendly. As I already stated they are way under staffed so corners do get cut. Avis Belmont has one staff member who is also one of the owners who should be nowhere near the public. Her name is Zaruna. Zaruna actually says things like the only reason I was nice on the phone is because corporate is doing test calls. Why on earth would you make a comment like that to a customer? I had received a call from Avis that I must return my rental car immediately. It was an odd call since I rented this car due to a car accident and I had told them I was unsure how long I would need it. When I showed up at Avis, Zul was helping me. Zul told me that he needed to close out the rental since it had been 30 days. He needed to close out the rental, charge me, and start a new one. I told him I only keep my debit card with me and the card I wanted to use I keep at home so I don't spend money. I told him I could bring the card the next day. Zaruna who was helping a different customer made an off kilter comment that I should make sure I have money when I am returning a rental car. This lady needs to help her own customer and not but into her colleagues customers and she certainly should not make a comment like that. She said 3 more times that I should bring money when I came back. I had asked Zul how much it was going to be with taxes because for some reason I thought car rental tax was about 20 %. Zul was helping me calculate when Zaruna told Zul to run after the last customer because he had forgotten her signature. Zul asked Zaruna to do the calculation for me. He ran out while Zaruna huffed and puffed and said "I don't have time for you. I have my own work do to now". There were no other customers in the store except myself. If Avis Belmont wants to stay in business they should make sure Zaruna does not deal with the public. So today when I went to turn in the second part of the rental I mentioned to Carol, Zul's wife that I would like to speak to her about Zaruna. There were 2 other customer in Avis at the time so I pulled Carol aside as I did not want to bash and bad mouth in front of others. I started telling Carol the story and Zul pulled her away. Then a few minutes later she returned and after 2 more sentences she was pulled away again. There was 3 staff for 2 people so I think someone could have helped Carol while she spoke with me. After waiting 20 minutes passed the time I checked out, I asked Carol if she could call me a little later when she was not as busy. Now up to this point I had wanted to write a bad review about Zaruna. When I saw how the others related in the office I wanted to let Carol know that I was going to write a bad review but then after meeting her I wanted her to know about Zaruna and that I was not going to write a bad review. However this is the clincher. When I asked Carol to call me she said something about being really busy. My heart sank. I was waiting 20 minutes for her and she doesn't care about their customers enough to make a phone call. By the way it was 3:30 PM on a Thurs, not the busiest time. Here we go again. The reason they are too busy is that they don't have enough staff. Since I had already paid I guess she figured customer service did not matter. Obviously Avis Belmont does not care if they provide consistent bad service. So if you want a dirty car, to be charge the wrong rate, not get your AAA discount, have the wrong Avis number entered, have desk people make rude comments and have general bad customer service then go to Avis Belmont. read more

I can't even validate this place by giving it a one star rating. I was completely unimpressed by the lack of professionalism not to mention bad communication I encoutered here. Customer service is shady and they cut corners. I can't help but think I was dealing with a bunch of scam artists. My rental came without air caps for the tires (all 4 of them) when I asked them if I could get replacements b/c of the high danger risk of using a SUV with low tire pressure they said NO. They told me the car had been delivered that way- and there was nothing they could do about it. Needless to say I was forced to go to a car store and buy them myself since I would be taking the car to the mountains. Another thing that bothered me was that they tried to scam me into buying their insurance saying they were giving me a bogus deal. He had held a car for my liking and when I had come to pick it up later that afternoon it was there cleaned and fueled up ready to go. The location was nice to just as internet had said. I had a different experience at enterprise on harbor. Earlier this week I was to pick up a truck from enterprise after reserving it 2 weeks ago. When I made arrangements to drop off my service van for repairs I was told that they didn't have a truck reserved for me that same day. You can imagine how upset I was. My first choice in renting cars has been Enterprise, but Enterprise is closed on Sundays and I needed a car. So I called around and fortunately got a hold of Avis in Belmont. I had 20 minutes to rent a car. My office was right around the corner so I got over there with a few minutes to spare. I rented the car in about 10 minutes. Carol and Zul were very nice and helpful. I saw the other reviews and I am sad to read that some other people didn't have great experiences there. Yes, it is a small business and there are no shuttle rides but for me, they got the job done and I was happy. read more

Not a good place to rent a car. My dad came to visit from France and i helped him to rent the car. When we took the car, one of the owner, the gentleman, told us that he would give a discount on the insurance ($9.99/day instead of 20 something), but when my dad returned the car he was charged full price. I called the following day to have more detail and a lady (the other owner, i guess) told us that if we have nothing in writing we could not change anything. On top of that she said that the transaction was closed. The point here is that they should not promise a price if they don't honor it (even if it is a verbal agreement). This Avis franchise really does try harder. They did an outstanding job taking care of me for a last minute, one-day, local rental while I had my E36 serviced. They picked me up at the shop with just 5 minutes notice, gave me a great daily rate--10 bucks lower than Enterprise, my previous local favorite--for a midsized (although they assigned me a gigantic white Ford minivan which ruined my cool for the whole day), and dropped me back off with little delay or fuss. They are open 7 days a week and while their location is a bit hidden in an storefront complex on an awkward spot on El Camino, I'll be using them for future weekend and repair rental needs. read more

Had a rental with Avis for this location (Belmont) last weekend and it was my first time. The price was REALLY good and was in/out very quick. The front desk clerks were nice but you could tell this location was not a seamless or very well organized as my experience with Enterprise. Plus I do like the fact that Enterprise does pick up their customers. I would use Avis again but would definitely use them after checking with Enterprise first. Also, most important, always take pictures of the car and document any damages before leaving the location. read more

This by far is the worst place I've ever rented a car from and I rent a lot of cars!!! The lady at the front desk is so mean and rude . I got the reservation through Costco and when I get there the lady couldn't find our reservation but was mad when she found it because we got a better deal going through Costco. She told me very rudely that I better not ask for any discounts because that's the price I get. I didn't even ask. She was so rude about other things but I'm Not going to get into that too,and just gave us the keys without going outside and looking at the car and checking it. She didn't even tell is what kind of car it was and when we asked she told us to just use the keys. We had to go outside and go through the rows of cars and keep beeping the keys till we found it. The car was so dirty inside and out. Flash forward to a week later and I needed to extend the hours I brought it back cause traffic was bad. So I called and the lady hung up on me twice with out even saying anything , so I card the 800 number. Even worse the lady on the phone was just as bad the front desk lady. She didn't didn't answer my question and told me it's going to be 60 dollars to extend a couple of hours!! I didn't understand and kept asking why . She never answered me why it was so expensive . But I later found out it was because the place closes early so I had to extend it a whole day instead of just 2 hours like I asked. I will never go back to Avis. Not worth anything . U can get better anything at anywhere else . So sad Avis u lost someone that would have been a frequent customer . read more

Zul runs a great shop. Even though I only tend to rent cars once or twice a year, it always amazes me, that Zul remembers my name every time. I always get great service and a smile. The first several time I rented cars, I would research all the rental places. Avis always gave me the best price. I don't even research anymore,I just call Avis. For the reliable service I would gladly pay a few more dollars, as it turns out, you get a great price no matter what! The cars are always clean and in excellent shape. I'd give them 2.5 stars if it was possible. The Good: they are usually empty, so you can get your car quickly. The Bad: the cars are usually dirty and the lady at the desk isn't big on customer service. I once got a car with tons of hair on the seat. I came back to the office to get another car. She apologized but then started yelling at the guy who cleans - right in front of me.... Um, awkward! I'd also suggest you review your contract before you leave, to make sure they charge you the same rate as your reservation and only charge you for the insurance you've selected. read more

We had a great experience with Yuri who handled our reservation. He was very friendly, honest, and efficient. The process was quick and he didn't spend a lot of time trying to add to our existing reservation. I like that this location is open 7 days a week, where nearby locations are not. Horrible Service. The representatives have strong attitudes. You have to mute yourself when dealing with them otherwise they will easily get pissed. These people are mad. ESPECIALLY, if you see a black woman manager over there, never try to complain to her about these representatives' bad attitude, because she IS THE WORST OF ALL. FYI- the rental contract cannot be more than 1 month. Every one month, you have to come back to SFO to sign a new contract. But if you sign an "automatic refreshing" contract before you pick up the car, they will make a new contract for you automatically after your current 1-month contract ends, which means you don't have to come back every 1 month. BUT, the problem is, if your reservation is 1 month plus 1 or 2 days, the representatives may refuse to sign the "automatic refreshing" contract because of no reason. They will brutally request you to bring the car back after 1 month. DON'T EVER ARGUE WITH THEM otherwise you will ruin your journey. JUST change to another car rental company and make your life much more easier! read more

This place is as F-CK'ed up as it can be. If I could, I would take a piss at their office and their customer service would still smell 10 times worse. If I didn't call them ahead of time, they wouldn't have even had my car ready. The car was booked weeks ahead online and the staff had no idea that the car was not ready the day before. WTF. Next, this location is frickin hard to find - barely any signs out front on El Camino Real so unless you GPS it, you won't find it by just driving down the street. Third, there is a staff member there who is just a total "biotch." So frickin rude she is too old to be PMS-ing. Grabbing papers out of my hand, giving me an attitude, and no eye contact whatsoever. Screw u. I just remained calm and polite as ever. WTF with the attitude when I didn't do anything rude myself or even verbalize a squawk of displeasure at all. That is why I am exploding here, to frickin vent and get this crap off my chest. Corporate AVIS should just close this frickin joint before these low lives ruin the reputation any further. Avis in Belmont is truly an awesome car rental location! The customer service is top-notch and their Avis cars are simply better than Enterprise or Hertz. Hertz always gives out those boring Ford Taurus. Enterprise always has old cars with high mileage and cigarette burns! If I'm going to pay for a rental car, I think it should be shiny and new, and that's what the Avis in Belmont has. Shiny, new cars with super clean interiors and same rates or even lower than than the competition. Let's put it this way, this location services Carlsen Porsche for when the Porsche customers bring in their cars for service. Hey, if they're good enough for Porsche, they're good enough for me! 5 stars for Zul, 3 stars for new employees there (seems Zul has left). When Zul worked at this location, it was one of the best car rental experiences I have had from a customer service perspective bar none. After spending an hour calling different car rental companies and locations around the peninsula looking specifically to rent a Mazda 5, Zul (luckily) picked up. Even though he didn't have a Mazda 5 in stock, he indicated he'd call the airport branch for me, and look to bring (aka drive) a Mazda 5 to this location if they had it at the airport - they did, and he offered a great price as well as the convenience of being able to rent locally as opposed to from the hectic airport location!! This above and beyond customer service brought my business to this location. I called again recently looking to rent a specific car again for a weekend getaway solely based on my great 5* experience with Zul. Unfortunately, it seems he's left this location and the service there is now mediocre. The man who picked up did not at all try to go above and beyond, and the departure from Zul's approach was stark - this left me unwilling to commit to renting again from this location without exploring other options / rental companies. This seems fairly representative as I've called a few times and each time gotten the same type of reply - that they don't have the car I'm looking for at this location and won't (aka. are too lackadaisical to) do anything about it - unlike Zul. Ownership should look to train employees to have Zul's commitment to customer service if they want more business amidst a competitive car rental economy. In the meantime, I'm taking my business elsewhere. I travel frequently due to my work and rent very often, and this has to be one the WORST car rental agency that I have ever been to. (1) long wait to get your vehicle; (2) after the long wait, the Malaysian guy (Zul ?) working at the front counter left in the middle of doing my paper work to attend to another clients that work for a fleet company; (3) lack of professionalism (I know this is a car rental agency but he doesn't have to be a jerk); and to top it off (4) he tried to rip me off by charging $200 over the reservation contract! When I pointed out the discrepancy, he shrugged his shoulders and then started to act offended. I asked what was the reason for the surcharge and he had NO explanation. He then said "OK fine" and changed the contract to what it was reserved under. I have never seen a rental place jacking up a reservation for no valid reason (he offered me no upgrades, although I typically get upgrades for free). I would avoid this place at all costs. read more
