I booked a truck through Budget for Saturday, 9/20/2025 at 8:30 AM, with the pickup location at Avis. This wasn't a casual rental--I made the reservation well in advance because I needed the truck for a time-sensitive move that was already costing me thousands of dollars. Then, at 6:31 PM on Friday, 9/19--less than 14 hours before pickup--I received a call from 650-969-2968 saying no truck was available. That late notice is completely unacceptable. Avis had days to notify me but waited until the very last minute, destroying my plans when it was too late to find an alternative. And here's the kicker: Avis did not try to resolve the issue. They didn't offer to re-arrange a truck, didn't provide options, didn't take responsibility. Instead, they told me to call Budget customer service--which was already closed by the time they called. So they knowingly passed me off to a dead end, leaving me stranded. Because of this fiasco, I now risk losing $4,000 since everything (movers, logistics, schedules) was already arranged around this truck rental. Avis and Budget's failure has real financial consequences for customers, and they clearly do not care. And the shadiest part? According to Avis's own online business hours, they close at 5 PM. So why did I get a call at 6:31 PM? How is a closed office suddenly calling after hours? The whole thing reeks of dishonesty and shady business practices. This experience shows exactly what Avis (and Budget, since they hand customers over to Avis) truly are: unreliable, dishonest companies that take reservations they don't intend to honor, fail to provide solutions, and leave customers to absorb the financial damage. If you value your time, your money, or your sanity, do yourself a favor: NEVER book with Avis or Budget. They will string you along, then pull the rug out from under you when it matters most. Usually rent from Enterprise but Avis is good too. Rented from here a few times and every time is smooth as could be. No crazy long lines like at Enterprise. The only downer is that due to the drought and City water restrictions. They don't wash the car. read more

My experience at Avis was outstanding. I originally booked with Hertz Palo Alto due to their fair pricing but the experience was horrible. They didnt have a car for me despite having a reservation and the customer service there was actually disgusting ( no car, no apology, no nothing). Thankfully I found Avis and they had a nice small suv available ready to go. More importantly, the employee, Ben, was really great. This has been the most unacceptable experience I've ever had with a business. I scheduled a rental for pick-up at 1 PM and arrived at 1:05 PM, only to find out the business had closed at 1 PM. There was no one on the lot, and when I called customer support, I received no assistance. After thoroughly reviewing the email confirmation and receipt, I found no mention that I needed to arrive earlier. It makes no sense to allow a 1 PM pick-up if the business shuts its doors at the same time. Had I been aware of this, I would have arrived earlier. When I called to reschedule and request a refund, I was shocked to be told I would be charged an additional $12 to pick up the next day--information that was not disclosed during my initial call. Had I not insisted on following up, I would have completely lost my reservation. This lack of transparency and poor communication is unacceptable. Not only will this cost me time away from work tomorrow, but I'm now paying more for one less day with my rental. I will never do business with this company again. read more

Hard to even give this place a single star. Went there to add drivers to our contract (we were on our way to a funeral) and the attendant was so rude and couldn't have been any slower. It was like he was trying, on purpose, to not be helpful and delay us. Cannot recommend this Avis location enough. After a nightmare travel day due to a cancelled flight on Dec 26th, we were stranded in the Bay Area and unable to get another flight back to LA until Dec 31st... we figured renting a car and driving home was our best option, as all remaining flights were extremely expensive / subject to cancellation. We spent all day calling car rental companies, who told us there were no cars available, or would book us and then soon after cancel on us. We decided to go in-person to this Avis location and we are so glad we did. Not only did Dinesh go above and beyond to ensure we were able to find a car, he also helped upgrade us at no cost due to the troubles we had encountered. So far so good. I've had a couple of rentals here so far and haven't had any trouble. I noticed the first car I rented wasn't full of gas so I went back in and they just marked it off. I was anxious the whole week because I feel like I would have gotten nickel and dimed when turning in the car (if they claim it was full when it wasn't) but didn't have any issues. I then had to do another rental because apparently cars are hard to buy nowadays, so they hooked me up with another car pretty quickly. The cars aren't perfectly washed/cleaned, but for a rental it does the job just fine. read more

Words cannot express what an amazing experience I've had with Dinesh and team at Avis Mountain View. I and my wife have been renting from him for almost 1 and half years continuously instead of buying cars (ok this only works out for us because we get a pretty sweet deal from our employer that makes it worthwhile while we wait for car prices to go down). In that time, they have shown outstanding service, regular upgrades etc. for example when my wife was close to delivering our second child, and i told Dinesh he immediately insisted that we take a free upgrade to a big new SUV insisting that I "don't compromise on her comfort". I purchased a previous cat from Avis and would give them 4 stars for that purchase. The first car had incredibly poor paint condition. Didn't take it. Got another that required hundreds of dollars of cleaning to get rid of mud but overall a good experience Not this time Avis claims do a thorough inspection of the car before selling. Yet the brakes were well below the standard for used car sales, and much of the routine maintenance hadn't been done. If a thorough inspection was done, I have no idea why these items weren't fixed If you are looking at buying a car from Avis, recommend you ask to see the detailed inspection report before you take the car on a test drive. I really like this Avis because the customer service was A LOT better than my expectations. They went above and beyond to help me get the car I was looking for. They were gladly able to call some locations near by about their inventory looking for the car I wanted. If you get lucky they might even hook you up with a nice discount, or best rate possible for your rental, like they did for me. Very much appreciated! I've rented here a few times now, and I am consistently impressed. The main thing is that Dinesh and crew are always willing to be flexible and work with you to meet your needs. I might need my car a few hours early, or need to get another driver put on the account, etc., and they will have always talked to me as a human being and tried (mostly successfully) to work things out for me if they can. I'm not a complainer, I used yelp for couple years, this is my first complaint. It's a horrible place to rent a car! I got a good deal for renting one week compact car for just $107(after tax) during Christmas holiday. However when I went to pick up the car, I was told it's been cancelled. They said they don't know why my reservation has been canceled. Because I need to start my trip immediately, I used my own car to start the drive. Then I contacted AVIS customer service and tried to figure out what's happening. They told me THE RENTAL SITE CANCELLED MY RESERVATION WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION. What the hell!! I took Uber to there and wasted lot of time, the worst thing is my trip has been ruined, feeling so bad for the coming trip. I don't know why they did that to me, I hope it's not because I got a good deal on the rental car during the peak season. Believe me, if you want to have a reliable car rental, AVOID THIS AGENT!! read more
