If you're reasonably patient, friendly, and pay attention, even a mono-lingual foreigner like Brad…read moreP. or myself can have a great experience with Europcar! Like Brad, I had reserved a particular model but was told it wasn't available and offered an upgrade. This is to be expected when renting a car. If you want a guarantee of a specific model, you need to reserve accordingly. It is a vehicle fleet, not a candy store, and the terms are quite clear about this. Faced with this potential disappointment, I asked if I could wait for one matching my preference to become available, and the staff were very accommodating. I waited no more than 30 minutes and got exactly the vehicle I sought. Namely, a VW Golf VII TDI. It was in excellent condition. Its navi was set to English for me already, and they included thoughtful small touches like a parking time card (v. useful when parking in German city streets) and a snow/ice scraper. The car was great fun to drive and had fantastic fuel economy. Later, when I needed to modify my return location, I called Europcar support and had a fantastic experience. The rep spoke flawless English and went out of his way to help make sure I knew where the new drop-off lot was, as it was at the dense and potentially confusing Cologne Hauptbahnhof. Europcar didn't charge me any extra to change my drop-off location (both the reserved and revised return locations were different from the origin at Frankfurt.) What was originally just a practical, flexible form of transportation for me to range around the Rhineland in became one of the unexpected pleasures of my trip. Vielen Dank, Europcar Frankfurt!

The usual scam other customers report also. When I told them I wanted a car in my booked category, the clerk told me to sit down and wait for one to come in, when and if unknown. Since I had been travelling for almost 20 hours already, I finally agreed to a more expensive car, costing me $300 more. When picking up the car I got out on the wrong floor, low and behold, there were several cars in my booked category. After the end of the rental period I complained, but the Station Manager defended this practice. It's my understanding that this place is heavily commission driven, which sometimes make people do unethical things! Since I travel twice per year to Germany for 3-4 weeks each, it seriously doubt that they will ever get my business again!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!…read more The employee helping us installed a car seat and adjust the child locks on our rental vehicle. He also started the vehicle because he wanted to show us where the start button was located (not a typical location). Unfortunately, he inadvertently left without giving us the key to the vehicle. Simple mistake but we didn't know this had happened until we arrived at our destination, attempted to turn off the vehicle and a message displayed on the vehicle stating that the key was missing. With a company as large as Hertz, this should not have been a huge problem, right? WRONG. It took 6 days for them to bring a loaner vehicle to us and another 2 days for them to deliver a replacement key. Meanwhile we were completely stranded and everyone we talked to (customer service, roadside assistance, this location, etc) just kept saying "we will look into it" or "we will call you back." I can't imagine what I would have done if I had been stranded with my toddler at a gas station or somewhere without accommodations. At the end of our rental agreement, we returned the vehicle and the key in the exact same condition it was issued to us. The tacked on: 48.52 EUR for fuel in the loaner car (we only drove it to pick up the replacement key) 508 EUR for the key that they lost 37 EUR for delivery of the loaner vehicle (on day 6 of our rental agreement) After several emails to Hertz and over a month of no response, I just received a canned response saying they would only refund the fuel charge.  They claim they can charge me because: "When a customer rents a vehicle, he or she accepts responsibility for the vehicle and its equipment.  If the vehicle is damaged during an accident, the customer will be held responsible and charged the appropriate repair costs." I never took possession of the key yet they want to hold me financially responsible for their employee's actions. I wish I had read the HUNDREDS of reviews on Google and Yelp stating this location was continually defrauding their customers! It is obvious that they have a serious issue with the management at this location and I am appalled the Hertz is willing to put their reputation on the line rather than addressing the issue.

Never rent from this company. I pre-paid for my car 3 weeks ago. I confirmed the rental as asked by…read morethe email they sent me, confirming my arrival date and time. Which I did and the car (automatic, gas car). When I arrived in this foreign country, they claimed they only had an electric car which I did not want and had not reserved and they refused to give me any other car because they said they did not have a single car in their entire garage (they lied- as obviously, there were cars in their garage downstairs). They also claimed I was late- I showed them the email from SIXT saying the time was confirmed, and that I was not late. The woman said there was no manager on site. She only can reach him by phone. I cannot confirm this, but it sounds Very suspicious that the manager could not come out to speak to me. Normally, when a car rental company does not have the car you have reserved in a certain class they would find a car for you regardless of the class of car that's available. They absolutely did not care about the situation they put me in. They canceled my own reservation, returned the money and I was stuck staying at the Frankfurt airport without a car. I will never ever ever ever rent from Sixt again. Not only did they not fulfill their agreed upon contract, they lied to me about not having any other cars in the garage and they really left me in the cold. They did absolutely nothing to fulfill their end of the contract even after I had prepaid close to 400€ dollars three weeks prior. Unbelievable, how they run their business. Luckily, I went to next door to Avis who had a car available to me for a reasonable price.

This was no fault of the rental counter. They were very apologetic, gave me another car & I was on my way. All employees from the managers to the counter to the check in personnel have always been very professional & courteous to me. I've done some of my best road trips thanks to the staff here. Wouldn't rent from anyone else. Thank you Sixt FRA & see you all real soon.

It is located in historic SW Germany. While the base offers lovely suites, generous amounts of American fast food and a mall with standard base stores, it is close to wonderful, historic towns that offer fabulous German food and places of interest. Large forests with hiking trails, many castles to explore, good shopping in walking districts and so much history, too much for a 3 week trip! With GPS in our rental car, it was very easy to find the local communities. The base also has the USO and a travel agency available with day trips to Belgium, France, Amsterdam, the Swiss border, Rhine and Mosel River cruises, and tours of major German cities. The USO offers orientation on riding the German Trains. I am hoping there is still room in their German cooking class! Everyone at the base has been incredibly helpful and pleasant. We are finishing up our first day toasting with a local riesling wine, sitting in comfortable easy chairs at the window overlooking the airfield below. What a lovely place.

AMCR however gave us a ride in an employees car the 5 minutes to their location in town. We ended up having to pay VAT tax on the car which is automatically taken out at the KMCC location. The staff was friendly with workable English. We rented a Citroen C-1 at about $50 USD/day which was fine for 2 people and luggage. It struggled keeping up on the autobahn. We returned the car on the Ramstein Air Force Base. They have a rental car drop off lot right near the pax terminal and a key drop in side the pax terminal. Very useful.
