While the…read moreperson initiating the rental was crabby (because she was working on Christmas Day), the person checking us in, Debra B., was just the opposite: friendly, personable and most of all, helpful. While we had a couple of concerns, Debra took care of us and made us feel good about using Budget in the future. We have rented four or five times from Budget here during the Christmas/New Year time frame. Generally, the agents are more helpful than not and I feel like we get a good value for our money in the cars we rent. They are typically GM products (a very good thing in the Lansing area) and the cars perform well. I recommend this Budget office at the airport.

When I arrived, I was told they just gave away the last 12-passenger van and that they tried calling me the day prior to let me know the vehicle wouldn't be available (I had no missed calls from the day prior or even that week). I was offered two Explorers instead, which didn't work for us because now you're saying I have two split my family up and pay for gas in two vehicles instead of one? No thank you. We accepted just one of the Explorers instead and figured we would make it work - well it did not work; we had to go home and unpack and repack everything to make it fit, if we didn't have a luggage rack there was no way this was going to work. I also only needed the rental through April 5th which the website let me choose as a return date when I booked it, when I got there the girl at the counter informed me that I would have to extend my rental by a day or return it a day sooner because they would be closed that day. Cool, so because you guys allowed me to choose a date you were closed as a return date, I now have to be charged an extra day on top of the inconvenience of a smaller vehicle or cut my vacation short. She told me I could contact Budget customer service when we returned, and they would be able to adjust the pricing due to the inconvenience and reverse the extra day. I've been fighting with Budget now since April and all they will do is refund my extra day and refund me $65. Although prior to me asking for it to go to refund and returns department the man on the phone offered me a free 2-3-day rental which would have been of greater value but shocker - when I bring that up to them, they have "no record of it". I should also add I have screenshots of a conversation with an agent where he stated my extra day would be refunded, my original reservation price would be honored along with an adjustment for the inconvenience. They don't care and are refusing to escalate to a manger. We will NEVER be renting from Budget again because obviously paying in full 3 MONTHS in advance still doesn't matter. Avoid like the plague because them and their customer service is awful and has no regards to customer satisfaction!

But when I showed up, they were completely closed with no employee at the desk. They closed at 5, so I'm assuming I would have had to have been there right at 5 (or before) to even speak to an employee at all. I placed most of the blame on myself for being late, but it was frustrating that by missing the window by a few a minutes I was SOL. I was able to call my credit card company and canceled my car reservation for a refund. I still tried again because I NEEDED a car to get to my hotel reservation for the night (600 miles away) and booked a car for the next day. This time I got to the airport at noon. They were open, but did not have the car I reserved. In fact, the worker at the counter informed me that he was "negative six cars" when he arrived at work that morning, implying that they had no inventory at all when they opened at 11 AM. Which to me means that they didn't have any cars when I booked one! So they had nothing to offer me in terms of an upgrade or downgrade nor did they offer to help me find alternative transportation. All I could do was cancel my reservation again. And because I had no transportation, I had to cancel my hotel too--which meant canceling and rescheduling my entire planned vacation. This was beyond frustrating. I just don't understand how a car company can let you book a car when they don't have any cars to book. It's not a matter of miscommunication or mistakes, it's just bad practice. I will definitely never be using National again.

I paid them over $12,000 over the last year and drove a vehicle that was unsafe every time they know that you need them that you're in a bad situation and they will not give you a reliable vehicle, they will make sure you pay on time or threaten to take the vehicle, but as far as maintenance that is not going to happen. For your family sake, do not use work or anything along that line the will be you. They will not do anything to help you. They simply take your OK I'll pay this money. It's a bad situation but I'm getting a new vehicle. No, you're not they will give you a vehicle specifically sent to Uber gig workers. You're not getting a nice new vehicles that a regular customer receives. You will get a discount on your weekly rental, but the vehicle is hard put away wet the vehicle I had we're not safe to drive. Juston went above and beyond helping us from start to finish. our trip was amazing and I believe it all started with the wonderfu help and service we received from our Avis/Budget rental off Michigan avenue in Lansing.
