I recently booked a subcompact SUV "Hyundai Venue or similar" at Avis to be picked up at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport. I specifically chose that vehicle for accessibility purposes. My father is 97 and uses a walker. I am 73. After about a half-hour wait at the counter, Avis gave us a low-riding Kia (see image) instead of the reserved SUV (see image). We had to deal with that klutzy vehicle for an entire week! Now, two separate Avis agents refuse to address the issue. They're throwing it off onto Expedia. Something to keep in mind if you decide to book an SUV from Avis in Greenville. I booked a vehicle 10 days in advance, paid in full, and selected a specific type of vehicle based on the options and photos shown. When we arrived, none of the vehicles in that class were available. Instead, we were offered a lower-class vehicle for the same price. We were then sent to another location, only to be told that they did not have parking space for larger vehicles. The customer service was extremely poor, there was no understanding of the situation, and the manager was not available. Despite paying a significant amount of money, we were offered the lowest-class vehicles. We spent nearly three hours at the rental counter trying to resolve the issue. As a result, we had to postpone our trip until the next day. My advice: never pay in advance if getting the vehicle you actually booked is important to you. They were unwilling to offer any reasonable compromise, even though vehicles of the same class were available on the lot. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this company. read more

After being with Avis for years, I've had it. They rarely have cars in stock. I recently waited an hour to get a car. Last rental, they gave me a car with 65k miles on it and bald tires. My most recent experience was trying to use my many points to rent for family vacation. Literally no vehicles of large enough size at this location or the other Spartanburg location. And for that reason, I'm out. read more

GSP: I pre-paid for a car at the GSP Airport. When I arrived, there were approximately 15 people in front of me ....15 behind me ..... The other 3 agencys there were out of cars .... I stood in line for over an hour and finally got fed up., as the agents weren't advising anyone of anything at all.. I asked the two woman if they were out of cars, if so they should just advise me so I can uber home instead of trying to rent a car for 12 hrs. NOTHING... WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ; GSP AIRPORT SHOULD BAN AVIS as this is often occurrence with AVIS at this location. read more

HORRIBLE! ZERO STARS! I prepaid for a rental car 2 months in advance and when I got to the counter the nasty old woman employee unapologetically told me "SOLD OUT!" when I politely told her I was there to pick up my rental car. She kept repeatedly shouting "SOLD OUT" at me when I asked what I was supposed to do. I actually thought I was on candid camera by the outrageous way the situation was (not) being handled. No solution given. No apologies. No refund. NOTHING! She actually turned around and walked out of the office and turned lights out on us. I was left stranded at 11:40pm at night vs at GSP airport with my sick daughter and all of the other rental car companies were completely sold out. Avis never called me to say they were planning to give my car away, nor did they contact me to let me know they had no vehicle for me. What business does this? Had to pay a fortune for a taxi to get us to our hotel and was stuck with no car for the next 2 days thanks to this disgraceful business. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

Attempted to call numerous times no one picks up the phone. Reason for calling? Car was returned this morning and still not logged in as returned. Have the car rented for three more days on the reservation. Concerned it will simply be used for that time with out being logged back in. read more

Very poor customer service. Each time I get here at the Avis at GSP there is either nobody available to help you, or they treat you discourteously. I am a preferred customer at Avis, and have decided that enough is enough after being treated in cordially once again today. I am a frequent traveler, and was totally appalled by the nonchalant unprofessional behaviour by the two ladies sitting in the " preferred customer Avis booth! I was the only customer there, and I was ignored while the lady with the short blonde hair was just scrolling on her phone, and the other one with the dark hair, was not even acknowledging that I was there! When they eventually noticed me, they told me to go downstairs? I was like why would I need to go downstairs when downstairs they send me upstairs because I am a " preferred customer? I am a very forgiving person but this is the third time in a row I have been treated poorly by them. I do not recommend Avis, spare yourself a headache. Go where you are respected as a person, and treated with respect. read more

The management at the Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) location of Avis Budget Group is the root of serious ongoing issues. Leadership appears disengaged from both customers and employees, creating a toxic and unprofessional work environment. There are alarming reports of: Employees using illegal substances in vehicles on-site Vehicles being stolen from the service lot and garage Cars being rented with check engine lights cleared instead of properly repaired Rental vehicles with expired registration Serious delays due to cars not being cleaned or shuttled properly Management refusing to speak with customers or address concerns directly Worse yet, the reservation system remains active even when there are no vehicles available. This means even prepaid reservations are not guaranteed--customers often wait hours with no solution. If you're renting from GSP, I strongly recommend choosing another provider. If you're booking through a corporate account, report these issues to your company--your safety and time are worth more. read more

I paid in full for my rental weeks in advance, called the customer service line to make sure everything was good to go and they confirmed all I had to do was pick up. I get to office they charge a 300 hold for incidentals for trip and because I had a debit card and not a credit card they run your credit and then told me I wasn't allowed to rent due to my credit score. No where online or speaking with a representative said anything about a credit check. I will never rent from them again nor will I recommend this company to any one!! RUN THE OTHER WAY. read more

Terrible service. Slow and very bad both times I was here. They literally had no cars ready and said at least an hour. There were tons of frustrated customers and it was forced. I decided to book at enterprise and was in a car within minutes. Avoid booking w this Avis branch at all costs. read more

GSP added a parking garage that opened 2 weeks ago but no where was both facts posted online when my rental car reservation reminder popped up on my email page. After exiting terminal, I went to the garage I'd known for years. Directed to go to Parking garage C. Very long walk from A to C! Get there; long line at Avis that was also handling Budget rentals. I had a voucher for my rental that I set up 1 month ago. Clerk was filling requests first come/first served but not telling vouchered rentals that they had priority. Waited 1-1/2 hrs. for second clerk to appear, and process went smoothly from there. WHY not assign a dedicated clerk to those online reservations with vouchers!!! I was fearful I'd wind up with no car as had happened 2 years before because all the cars were given out DESPITE me having a reservation!! No vouchers back then. At least that part has changed. I will not reserve from "Low Cost" rentals again! Did not receive print out of reservation charges break down. Being charge much more than originally understood. As someone else wrote: AVOID if you want to remain mentally balanced. read more

We had an issue with our rental and Audrey was so helpful and accommodating. We have used this Avis multiple visits and have never had an issue. My husband and I were supposed to meet up at this airport and each of us were delayed. I made it to gsp and my husband was stuck in Atlanta. Audrey helped me out with our reservation. Thank you so much and I so appreciate it! read more

I arrived at the Avis counter to retrieve my reserved car at 4pm on Monday, June 3rd. I finally received the keys at 6 pm. There were 3 employees at 4 pm. At 5pm only one employee remained. There were at least 35 or more people waiting in line during those two hours. Avis is a NATIONAL company. I will never rent from Avis again if this is their business practice. Totally unacceptable. read more

Waited an hour for a car....you shouldn't take reservations if you don't have cars. No actual information provided by the counter staff.

Worst Avis I've ever been to. Took forever to get my car. Defeats the entire purpose of being preferred when you have to wait 45 mins to pick up your keys. read more

Do not rent from this location! Avis gave me a Subaru with tires that were worn to the steel belt. Hydroplaned multiple times, just barely avoiding accidents. Ended up getting a flat tire during our trip and the Emergency roadside assistance did nothing for us. 5 different customer service agents that I've talked to saw no issue with the condition of these tires. Avis's safety program seems to be non-existent. read more

Upon returning my rental I forgot my digital camera in the passenger door. Immediately after my flight home I attempted to contact the company and I filled out the lost and found form online. Every agent I got in contact with just gave me the run around, if I could even reach a real person at all. I was told I would be contacted in 1 week, and now it's been 2. I call again and the agent says she will forward my request to the location and they will contact me.... Ya right. Like I said, I just get the run around and will probably never see that camera again. The email says "unclaimed items will be donated after 30 days" well Ive been trying since day 1 and can't even get an answer and it's already been 14 days. The voicemail "where what is lost is found"...... bad customer service read more

The staff at the location itself was fine and pleasant, however the company and their service was terrible. I reserved and PREPAID for a specific type of vehicle online. I arrived and the vehicle was not there. Instead of making good on the failure with an upgrade they only offered lesser vehicles than what I had prepaid for. I was renting a car because my elderly parents had been in a car accident and had been in a car accident. They were in the hospital and needless to say my plans were up in the air. My original plans were to fly out of charlotte, but my stay was extended and I ended up leaving out of Greenville, where I picked up the car. I notified reservations TWO DAYS before I left. Plenty of time to adjust any logistics on their end. They insisted on charging me a $71 change of reservation fee even when I told them I was upset and going to be speaking with their customer service and posting a review online. Obviously customer service is not something that Avis is concerned about. read more

This place is the worst I have ever experienced. The line was extremely long and took forever for each driver. The other car rental desk right beside this office were moving 4 people to each one at Avis. The Sales Representative, Dick, was poorly trained and way over his head. I went back and fourth from being angry to feeling sorry for the guy over the hour I watched and waited. The Premier Members were having as much trouble as anyone. I had my travel agency prepay the rental, he couldn't find it. I called the agency and they called him only to be hung up on. My agency said the guy, Dick, couldn't understand anything. Once my agency got someone at Avis to understand I returned, waited in line again, to no avail. An hour and a half after landing in GSP I took an Uber. Never again will I use Avis. read more

The lady at the desk was ultra frazzled when I arrived and made me wait for her to load cars into the system. I took the car and drove it for one hour to drop off in Asheville, NC. I didn't drive through any toll roads and I filled up the car before returning it. I then received a $19.00 charge additionally two days later. I call in and "Alex" proceeds to tell me that this is a refueling fee, even though I filled up the tank prior to return. He then expresses that I needed to show the gas receipt at return. The website did not say this, the pick up lady in Greenville did not say this, the drop off lady in Asheville did not say this. Now they will not remove the charge unless I provide my bank statement and then it will take 7-10 days for the charge to be removed. Horrible customer service! Will NEVER use again. read more
