Last minute decision to rent vs Uber and glad I did: great rate and easy checkin/checkout. Nearly new, v efficient Hyundai was a bonus!

National Car Rental - The Audi A6 I was issued

I travel a lot and don't always have the best experience. Yesterday was refreshing. The staff was…read moreall smiles and they were really personable. We were in and out on less than 5 minutes because they actually paid attention to the information I submitted online. Walked out with a fully gassed up charger.

I love using National because I love the Emerald Isle. Enterprise is slightly different, in that…read morethey select cars from a very limited inventory to give you; you don't get to go see them all and pick what you want, like the Emerald Isle. I'm not too fond of these small airport National locations where you have to go to a desk (something else I absolutely hate) and check in and finish the transaction where they give you a key and ask if you're OK with the vehicle they selected. On this visit, the vehicle they offered was nice, it was an Audi. But the last time I used a counter like this (at a different airport, nearby) I got a vehicle I never would have chosen from the Emerald Isle, so this doesn't always work well. My gripe on this visit was when I got to the counter to get a car, there were three ladies working and one of them was helping a customer. The other two were typing on the computer in front of them. I had to wait for the one helping a customer to finish and then she took me. Immediately after, another customer walks up and one of the other ladies stopped what she was doing and took him. She also recognized his Executive Elite status... I'm Executive Elite too, but no one said anything about that to me? (this goes towards inconsistent management which means poor training and management) Ultimately, I got my car and left. When I returned, there was no one outside to check me in. I saw a sign that said take the keys inside and remember what spot you parked in - This is a horrible way to check in cars! So, I did just that. Got to the same counter inside where I checked the car out two days prior and there were the same three ladies working the counter. I stood there and waited while 2 were on the phone. After waiting a few mins and none of them looking up to see me standing there, I interrupted what they were doing to ask what I was supposed to do. One commented that some guy was supposed to be outside to check me in, but clearly he wasn't. She took my keys and said they'd send the email. I stressed the elaborate review to say this is quite the opposite of what makes National so great with the Emerald Isle at larger airports. They could very easily do the same style here or at least offer much better customer service than they do. I wish they would because selecting National at these smaller airports is no different, nor better than simply going with Avis or Budget.

This is my first car rental experience and so I cant say I experienced better, but I can say that…read morethis place is a sketchy place to do business with. I received a notice in the mail stating that I had outstanding charges of $157.40! I called in and was notified that I have been charged a late fee for not having the rental car back in time. Both me and my husband were notified that we needed to have the car returned in time before the store opens at 7am on Sunday 7/15/2018 for the store would not be opened on Saturday 7/14/2018. The car was returned Sunday morning at around 2am with the keys slid under the gate on the inside (as instructed) and I was notified that it wasn't returned until sometime that Sunday after 11 am. Well I can assure you that that time is completely fabricated for at that time I was in the airport boarding my flight back home. I even sent them a screenshot of my flight ticket showing when I left. So how they came up with that fabricated time is beyond me. The employee that participated in this agreement was Derek B. Both me and my husband went over the rental expectations with Derek and when we needed to have the car back several times. Derek notified us that the store would be closed on Saturday 7/14/2018 and we were able to return the car back on Sunday 7/15/2018 before the store opened to avoid these additional charges. I was then notified by a rep that was working that day that this detail was not true and that the store is open 7 days a week! I'm not sure what kind of scam business is being ran here but I WILL NOT be paying this $157.40! If anything the charges should be deducted from your employees check or dismissed for providing us with incorrect information. I am now in the disputing process due to this "anything for a dollar" scheme. If the conversation and outdoor surveillance was recorded and played back, it will prove that we are not liable to pay this fee. But the fact that I have to take time out of my day and deal with this type of frustration is infuriating! Update- Management at the location removed the charges after looking into the matter so all is well now. still a little worked up but they advised I could disregard the notice. I advise documenting everything they say in writing or record what is not on the paperwork to avoid he say she say conflicts like such.

If you are going to get a car rental, DO NOT use Thrifty Car Rental. We picked up the car from the…read moredetroit airport and drove to Tennessee over Thanksgiving. We used tickets at work, which is a third party company, to book the rental. We were charged $560 through tickets at work. When we picked up the car, we had to put a card on file which I figured would be for damage purposes. They then charged me $442. I figured the $442.00 was the hold as a just in case.... Unfortunately the charge of $442 never fell off our card. I filed a dispute with our credit card company. They ended up closing the dispute because Thrifty Car Rental NEVER RESPONDED TO THE DISPUTE INQUIRY AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OVER A 3+ MONTH PERIOD. I received the notification of the dispute being closed and called Thrifty. After being on a merry go round of lies, I was able to get my case "escalated." I received an email a couple of hours later saying they were refunding $296. I proceeded to call again and demand for the full refund. My inner Grandpa Fisher came out, during both calls if im being honest, and the rep did tell me that I'm now getting the difference back too. Thankfully I have two emails stating what they are giving back to me. We shall see what happens as it will take 72 hours.

Sixt Rent a Car - Expired car tag on my Sixt Rental Car in Greenville, SC

The tire pressure warning light was on. I went back inside the rental office after discovering these problems and asked to be rented another vehicle (there was another van in the parking lot) but was told I could not have that vehicle instead. She did mark the fuel as 2/8 low on the receipt. She then told me that the tire pressure light was a "bad sensor" and that all tires were at 40psi. Upon driving the van home - 10 miles - I could feel the right front tire was losing pressure. I checked the tire at home and it was at 15psi. I refilled the tire to 36 psi, which is the correct pressure on the door label. I restarted the van, and the tire pressure light WENT BACK OFF - which means that there is NOT a bad sensor, and the sales clerk BLATANTLY LIED just to get me to leave. She had no consideration of an under-inflated tire being a MAJOR safety concern in a vehicle that would very likely be used to transport a family on vacation. I then went to start loading up the van with luggage for a 300 mile family trip including three children. When I opened the back, the van was very dirty. I had to completely vacuum out everything except the front seat floor mats. There was a large amount of white dog hair, as well as food crumbs, potato chips, and even ketchup drips in the center console area. After I vacuumed out the van and loaded it, about 2 hours later, the front right tire had already dropped to 30 psi. So, there was obviously a slow leak in the tire. I spent the remainder of the trip stopping about every hour to put more air in the tire, which as you can imagine is a large inconvenience on a 5 hour trip. Lastly, I discovered that the remote key fob would not work to lock or unlock the doors, so we spent the entire trip having to use the manual key to unlock the driver's door then unlock all doors with the buttons inside. A minor inconvenience, but added to everything else makes a very bad impression. I could take one or two of these problems alone and not be too bothered. But the sales clerk who directly lied to me about the flat tire is a serious concern, and for that reason I will not be renting from Sixt in the USA again.
