I'm not sure why the horrible reviews about Avis Castle Rock. I rent over 100 AVIS cars a year due to my work. This week I had a need to rent a car close to home while my car was in the shop. Despite being extremely busy Oscar found me a Toyota Truck for a few days. The truck was extremely clean and well maintained and both Oscar and his team member were graicious and professional. I did witness one person returning his car with a half full tank and getting upset with Oscar because he didn't feel it was his responsibility to pay for gas too. Really? I reserved a rental car online through the Avis website to pick up at this location the day before I wanted to pick it up. Everything went through and things were fine and then I went in the morning early to pick it up and first of all, the place wasn't even open and second of all, after I had been sitting there for an hour. The owner finally called and said yeah he doesn't have a car for me. Evidently there is no connection between national Avis and the individual Avis rental locations. It is absolutely ridiculous and a huge waste of time and a poor way to do business. I will not be reserving from this location or from Avis ever again; it wasted my time and why even have a reservation online if you can't actually get the car. It should be real time and reservations online should know what cars individual locations have. This is the freaking 21st-century. We reserved a 7 passenger car over a month ago. Manager Ron from this location called the day before to inform us no car is available. Ron would not assist in finding another car, and said it was up to us. Not good customer service. We located another car from a competitor. It was less expensive and they said if there was any issue getting the car we reserved that they would locate elsewhere for us and they will stand behind it. Avis Corp. - if this Castle Rock location is a franchise I suggest you help them improve with some training. read more

Booked a rental for a day and a half out, prepaid for it. Only to get a call the day after booking to tell me they won't have a vehicle and I need to call customer service to try and get a refund. Rented a car in Grand Junction for a short road trip. Luckily they had vehicles and the one we got was nice. Clean Nissan Rogue. Sporty looking. We drove down to Castle Rock no issues. Found the Avis office to return the car to no problem. It's in a strip mall and parking is terrible. We found a space and walked back to the office. The associate was friendly and we told him where we parked. We did have the mileage but he had to move the vehicle so we waited in the office. Small space. Informational brochures and maps available. The unmanned return key kiosk is not being utilized right now. You have to return your vehicle to a person. The process wasn't difficult and we were finished fairly quickly. No issues with this rental. read more

Back in August, I rented a car for 3 weeks after getting into a hit and run accident. I paid over $800 on this rental. I was told I would receive my initial $250 deposit back when I dropped the car off. I dropped the car off cleaner than it was when I received it. Even vacuumed and washed the car. Come September, still never received my deposit. Contacted Avis customer service and was told it was deposited in my account back in August. It was not, and my bank confirmed that it wasn't deposited, so I disputed this. It is now October, and I woke up to another $250 charge to my account from avis. I called customer service, and they couldn't help me. Now I'm out $500. Save your time and money, and do not choose avis. read more

The man running this store, Oscar, was terrible to work with and very rude to me. We purchased a car through Avis' RubyCar platform as my car died two weeks ago. We were extending the length of our rental with Avis as we waiting for a delivery date. On multiple occasions over the phone, their team told my partner and I multiple times that our rate was $150/week because we had extended it for a total of two weeks while we waiting for Avis/RubyCar to deliver our vehicle. He refused to accommodate the price based on what we were told, and I am on the hook for $1,075 at the end of the return and told me to leave the store when I wanted to discuss it with him further. Totally unacceptable and a rude way to conduct business. I am contacting Avis Corporate and will escalate it further if needed through my extensive media connections as a PR professional. Don't rent a car from Avis Castle Rock. I've used this location for years, but it's now under new management. I reserved a car 2 weeks ago (which I had pre-paid) and when I went to pick it up yesterday the manager told me they didn't have any cars because "Denver" took them all away. I asked him why he allowed "Denver" to take all his cars when he knew he had a reserved car for the next day. No answer. I had been standing behind another customer who just completed a rental. Where did that car come from? No answer. He said he tried to call me the previous evening, but he didn't leave a message (not that it would have done me any good at that point). He never apologized and couldn't have cared less that he put me in a huge bind. Because it was Sunday, all the other car rental companies in the area were closing in an hour. He refused to give me any assistance, or to try to call the other branches or to rent me a car if one was returned (which happened while I was still there). When I started to get angry he told me to never come back. Don't worry buddy, I won't and I hope everyone who reads this doesn't either. Be aware, just because you make a reservation and pay for it, doesn't mean you'll be getting a car when you show up. read more

Furthermore, I wanted to drop the car off after hours of which their 800 number told me you can't only to find out from the local office I could of!! We rented a vehicle from this location for a week rental. After driving away in the vehicle, we noticed it was filthy inside. I spent a lot of time trying to clean sticky stuff off all the back seats of the mini-van (without much luck.) We needed to leave town before dawn and once dawn arose, it was apparent that we couldn't see through the passenger side windshield. We stopped at a Walgreens to purchase cleaning supplies to attempt to clean the windshield, but whatever was on it seemed to be inside the glass (almost like hard water spots covering the windshield.) We had passengers commenting how dirty the car was (which was extremely embarrassing.) The car's windshield wiper fluid was also empty, so that made for fun mountain driving with bugs hitting the windshield and no way to clean it. I called Avis once we returned home to talk to them about the car and they said we had to return it before they were willing to talk to us. So, we returned the car a day early -- we just wanted to get rid of it! Avis didn't refund any additional money for early return (it was apparently inside 24 hours of needing to be returned so counted as a day.) I was told to call the customer service phone number. I called them and the first person I spoke with basically told me it was my fault for not calling earlier and getting a new car. EXCUSE ME! I won't go in to the laundry list of reasons why that wasn't possible (and mind you I did try to call them to discuss, but was told they had to have the car back before they would discuss, so not sure how that's supposed to work!) Then, after speaking to FIVE other people - I ended up with a supervisor called Gabriel. He promised me a credit of $52.50 saying that was the best he could do and (as everyone else did) reminded me that it was on me to tell them about the condition of their car before taking it. I checked my credit card statement a few days later and old Gabe decided to only credit $43.96 instead of what he promised. I called and spoke with Danny and he said he is going to credit the difference, but they didn't have notes of the $52.50, so he's just taking my word basically. Sigh. He also told me it was the least he could do. YES, DANNY, it seems that is the way Avis operates - AT THE LEAST THEY CAN DO. I told him they lost me as a customer and he tried to give me a day credit on a future rental... ABSOLUTELY NOT. Avis customer service is HORRIBLE. They tell me it is basically MY FAULT for not telling them their car was clean or whatever and that I could have just easily traded it at another location. (Wonder how many locations Avis has in the southern Colorado rural mountains?) Unbelievable. They have lost a customer for good and I'll make it a mission to make sure others go elsewhere to rent a car. read more

I am in agreement with everyone detailing their horrible experience with this Plum Creek, Castle Rock, Colorado location. The customer service agent we dealt with was, it would seem, the person most are talking about in the bad reviews. Why, dare I ask is he still working there. Rude, dishonest, and unhelpful. Again, why is he still working there. He must be some "higher-ups" kid. His "higher-up" mommy or daddy should be ashamed. Upon return of the vehicle, the bill was pretty ungodly with all the additional charges only to find yet another charge on our credit card for "a cleaning." Again, the car was so dirty when we received it that we had to do a Clorox wipe-down. So we do know that it was cleaner upon return. Seems to be the MO at this location, and possibly all Avis locations, to bill each customer for a "cleaning" after the return of the filthy car that you picked up. When I called to address this additional charge on my credit card he said, "I spent an hour cleaning up that car - somebody opened a soda can or something in the back; there was crap on every panel of that car". WTF? That is so beyond BS it is not even funny. One, I am sure that lazy-ass didn't clean and, two, there was no soda spillage on every panel. Buyers beware of that little trinket first and foremost. When I called BS on that one he was "just going to stand firm on that charge." Again, seems to be a pattern here.....hmmm. We rented here because it is close to our office and we were having some quick body work done. We should have read the reviews. Run! Don't walk away from this location, run! As with the growing crowd of unhappy renters from this location, and very likely others, we will never again rent from here or any other Avis location. read more

I rented a car in Castle Rock, CO and drove down to meet my husband in Santa Fe for the weekend (he had driven down earlier in the week in his car). I rented the car on Friday at ~2:00pm with no problems. My reservation was until 12 noon on Sunday. On Sunday, I was running about 10 minutes behind so I CALLED the location to ask if there would be any problems with me returning the car literally 10 minutes late. I was told, "No, that will be no problem, just leave the keys in the drop box because I am leaving for the day." Fine. I did as requested and my husband and I drove back to Castle Rock in his car. The next day, I received an email stating that I had been charged an EXTRA $100 because my rental was not returned until Monday morning. I figured this was just a misunderstanding so I called the branch. This is when the "fun" started. After being transferred among 2 branches and the national office, I was finally told that a manager would call me back within 24 hours. No call back. I called again two days later and was told the same thing. Still nothing. In essence I was charged an extra $100 for 10 minutes of car rental after ASKING if there would be any problem and being told "No." Needless to say, I will NEVER rent from Avis or any of its affiliate companies again. Today I tried the central customer service billing and after being on hold 45 minutes I had to hang up. So still have no help with billing concerns. read more

The man working at the castle rock location should not be in customer service. As others have noted, he is not friendly and wouldn't even show us where the car was. He did eventually come out with us and didn't seem too concerned with the damage on the car. I wish we looked inside while we were still there. The car was filthy. Dog and human hair all over the back. Crumbs and dust everywhere. And trash in the cup holders. Enterprise is worth the extra price for future rentals. We won't use Avis again. read more

We rented a car for one day while our car is in the shop. Upon returning the car, the sales associate acosted my wife about leaving it full. She topped it off at the adjacent gas station, for $2. The indicator read full however, the sales rep made her return to the gas station for a receipt for the $2. He then examined the receipt as if she forged it between the gas station and the rental office. Unprofessional to say the least. Worst. Customer. Service. Ever. Our rental had a fast leak in one of the tires and we called roadside assistance. After a five minute conversation, we were told to drive to a location (yes, on a flat tire) to exchange the vehicle. They told us this repeatedly after our requests to fix the flat. we told them we were not going to drive anywhere to exchange a vehicle, which was full of equipment, as we were on a deadline. we simply needed the tire fixed or a spare put on. The phone conversation ended with us just giving up and thinking we had to call AAA. Luckily, we remembered an Avis in Castle Rock. We pulled up, open sign on and found it locked. Sign on the door said "be right back." Okay, no problem. I no sooner turn around than a young kid gets out of a car in a tee-shirt and shorts ( no uniform) and announces in a loud voice that if I would just read the sign on the door, I would know they weren't there. And hello to you, too snotty child. He then proceeds to tell us that the reason that we had to drive in is that there are no cars in our size, something we never asked for. We just wanted the tire fixed. He continues to argue with us about getting a vehicle exchange. We told him we didn't want it exchanged, we just wanted the tire fixed. He finally directed us to Big O Tire to so the work for us and tell them to "charge me." I finally asked him, if I was stranded somewhere, what would have happened. He tells me that they would have come and put on a spare and then told me to drive to exchange the vehicle, arguing again that they had no vehicles in our size. Sigh. All the while I am thinking, doesn't Enterprise come and pick you up? Hmmmm. He and the phone service for Avis were rude, condescending, and the epitome of everything a customer service rep should not do. You lost a 20 plus year customer, Avis. Avis in castle rock CO came thru for us after having reservation with enterprise in castle rock only to get to our RESERVED car to hear they have NO cars and don't know when one is coming in!!!!! Wow!! I should have read the reviews before renting from this place. Yes I was charged all kinds of fees upon check out and the amount came out to be almost $500 more than what was originally listed. Thank God I had my original receipt and questioned William about this. However he didn't resolve it fully and instead changed the daily rate once he had to eliminate the milage that he was trying to charge me. BTW I had unlimited! And have never been charged milage by any rental company. On top of that I returned the car 1 day early but still paid MORE than what was agreed to in my original contract. CONSUMERS BEWARE!!!!! Unethical behavior and poor customer service. I have a bad taste in my mouth and will not rent here again. Zero stars for sure and I wish they had negative ratings beyond stars but you have to select at least one to post. read more

Came in today with a mid-sized reservation, but not having ever driven in snow we asked for a bigger vehicle. Those are hard to come by in the winter, but Ken was able to get us a good solid SUV with all wheel drive that made us feel much more secure. He was fast, friendly, helpful, and gave us great tips. Major Fail at the Avis in Castle Rock, CO. Last week we made arrangements (over the phone) to rent a VAN over the 4th of July weekend. We needed a VAN that would comfortably seat SIX ADULTS. When we arrived to get our van they tried to give us a SUV instead insisting that it was a van (which it is not). There was a van in the lot but it had already been rented to someone else. The third row seat was so cramp that it would be tough for kids to sit in it. Once again, we had SIX adults. The employee was so rude and arrogant and didn't care if we rented a vehicle or not so we left. Consequently our travel plans for the weekend have been ruined for ONE of the six adults and we are now forced to travel with a personal vehicle that could seat five. I wanted to shop here to keep things local. I prefer to give to someone in my own community rather than a large corporate office. HOWEVER, I have to agree with Jen S above. The business is family owned and the husband and son are wonderful and completely accommodating and professional. The wife is the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. I actually cancelled my reservation due to her. She is rude and very condescending. She argued with me regarding what was said in my initial visit with her husband, saying "he would never say that". I had my husband and friend with me who witnessed what was said and she still pretty much called me a liar to my face. She said I was too worried about what I would look like in a car instead of the ride when I asked about what a luxury car was considered and said I wasn't going to be happy with what they would provide and I should set up another reservation somewhere else to be sure I had what I wanted. So I did. I cancelled with her and made one with AVIS in Highlands Ranch. They were awesome! What a shame to take money from a local business, wish I didnt have too read more

Everything that Tracy said below is absolutely correct about the wife owner. We also had a horrible experience with the wife owner at this location. Our contract was to be adjusted per our conversation with the husband, or it was adjusted back after the husband fixed it, and we were overcharged by $52. If you rent at this location, please make sure your contract is correct and you have it in hand before you walk out the door.
