Informed the staff at checkout and the staff claimed to just bring it back empty. Interestingly enough, my contract stated that the car had 10.6 gallons of petrol at checkout, on a 12.6 gallon tank. There are plenty of computers and NEVER enough staff. I see others have had the same issue. Why ask what time our flight gets in if you don't staff accordingly? At pickup, we were specifically told to inspect the vehicle and take photos of any existing damage. We did exactly that. As we were leaving the airport, we noticed damage to the windshield and immediately photographed it. We still have the original photo with its date/time information documenting that the damage was present at the very beginning of our rental. After returning the vehicle, Budget sent us a letter attempting to charge us $369 for that exact windshield damage. I disputed the charge and provided the photographic evidence showing the damage was pre-existing. Instead of actually addressing the evidence, Budget sent what appears to be a canned response about "roadside services," claiming we were responsible because we hadn't purchased Extended Roadside Assistance or Loss Damage Waiver. That completely misses the point. Insurance or a damage waiver has nothing to do with whether a renter should be charged for damage that was already on the vehicle when it was handed to them. Even more concerning, their original billing letter said the charge was $369. Their response to my dispute suddenly said the charge associated with the glass was $624. No explanation for the difference. So, to recap: Budget told us to photograph existing damage. We followed their instructions. We have a timestamped photo documenting the damage at the beginning of the rental. Budget then attempted to charge us for that damage anyway. When we disputed it with evidence, they didn't address the evidence and instead sent an irrelevant response referencing a completely different dollar amount. I have asked Budget to produce its pre-rental inspection records or other evidence showing that this windshield was undamaged when the vehicle was released to us. I have also asked them to review the timestamped photograph we provided rather than simply sending another form response. This has completely changed the way I view Budget. If customers can follow Budget's own instructions to document pre-existing damage and then still have to fight hundreds of dollars in charges for that same damage afterward, that's a serious problem. Thankfully, I took the photo. My advice to anyone renting here: photograph and video every inch of the vehicle before you leave the lot, keep the original files, and save every piece of documentation. Based on my experience, you may need it. I will update this review if Budget actually reviews the evidence and resolves the charge appropriately.

She said multiple things along the lines of "they told me they called you" "I told them to call everyone with a reservation today" and then a few "I don't know if I have any cars for y'all" "we're supposed to be closed todays". So that was stressful. We were hoping to get to the Saturday morning market in Madison before it closed which, spoiler alert, didn't happen. We had to sit there for her to sort out the guy that was already there. He got a car. Then we were informed there was a car for us but that was it. She did mention that there was a car that needed an oil change so she couldn't give that out which at least is better than the Avis in Cleveland we rented from last time who had no problem giving us a car that alerted us repeatedly that it required an oil change. We were able to get on our way eventually but the experience was quite jarring. The gas tank was empty. The car was clean. It seems like a low bar to only take reservations for when the place is open and to not close on a day when there are reservations.

Did you know if a regular zipcar renter brings back a car with low fuel they pay a 30 dollar fee but if a uber driver does the same thing we are charged a 115 dollars I have receipts and if a car comes back with low fuel you would think that zip car uses the fee to refill the gas like every other company.... they don't they leave it up to the next uber drivers to pay to refill the gas but if your a regular zipcar member zip car will give them a fuel card or credit to pay for the fuel Zipcar offers us a rewards program for like every 900 dollars you spend they give you a 15 dollar credit towards your next rental but there's a catch if the reservation gets messed up for any reason may be you canceled it or maybe the app makes a mistake they will not give you back the reward if your a uber driver zipcar will tell you the reward is deemed used Zipcar customer support is horrible to they will not do much to help you out side of reading a script and telling you someone will be with you in 3 to 5 days via email and then they just hope you give up on whatever issue you have and will keep giving you the run around when you do call back or they will tell you to refer to their policy page which is super vague with alot of fancy words Zipcar is purposely targeting uber drivers do not use zipcar if your ubering your better off using avis or buggy only reason I used zipcar as long as I did and put up with the bullshit was because I didn't have to drop 400 dollars all at once and could earn day to day and pay as i go but the other companies your paying 75 to 80 a day with zipcar your paying 120 a day give or take depending on what day of the week it is definitely not worth it
