Took the 11:30 historical cruise, but bridge # 5 would not raise, so they turned around and returned to dock at 12:45. They offered to accommodate us on the 2pm "fun" cruise or give a refund. We stuck around and took the fun cruise with the historical narrative added to accommodate us from the historical cruise. The cruise was OK and interesting. The water was a little choppy out in the harbor and the wind got cold being that it was October. But overall a fun & informative experience. read more

We attended the fiesta friday cruise that set sail at five thirty till seven o'clock. The cruise itself was enjoyable. The weather was great. Unfortunately, the buffet lacked any kind of excitement. I got served better Mexican food in high school. For $35 dollars, I could have ordered everything off the taco bell menu and enjoyed that better. The only option you had were nachos chips or soft shells, ground beef with only cheese, lettuce, salsa sour cream and jalapenos. I understand you pay for the cruise as well. But I've been on other cruises, and the dinner was great, this lacked any kind of fiesta flair. read more

I took my friends who were visiting from the West Coast on a cruise of the Milwaukee River and the outer harbor. Many things about the boat cruise were great: the boat was clean and looked well-taken care of; there were fairly comfortable seats on the fore and aft of the boat, and the captain and bar staff were friendly and professional. However, the tour guide was absolutely terrible. At the beginning of the cruise, she said she'd only talk about things on one side of the boat, leaving those on the starboard side staring at things she never discussed. When she had nothing to add on her own, she said she would be reading from the book (which seems unprofessional--if you need to read from the book, why would you say that? Just make it sound natural!). She made a point of saying she'd been raised in Milwaukee, but wasn't knowledgeable about many of the things she pointed out. She wondered aloud about the cost of the apartments and condos along the lakefront or the river, and she discussed the race/origin of the people living in the Third Ward and surrounding areas so much as to sound borderline racist. (My friends and I were joking about her lines "And then the Italians showed up" and "then the Blacks came and got their jobs" for the rest of the weekend.) While she had an interesting knowledge of some of the features of Milwaukee, it was often presented with cringe-inducing details (she called the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower the "Polish Moon"--at least three times--because of all the Polish immigrants who lived in the neighborhood, and made a point to repeatedly say "they didn't have very much money"). Her word choice and attitude made her seem like she hated Milwaukee. This attitude and "cringe factor" was not entertaining and did not enhance the boat ride. The rest of the staff seemed uncomfortable with much of the tour guide's commentary--as did several of the other passengers. The tour guide makes or breaks cruises like this. She made planning my event so easy and stress free. I love that we get to cruise the river and go out on the lake. The views are awesome and incase there is bad weather, there's plenty of inside seating. The food is probably a solid three stars (we did a taco bar). It's nothing over the top, but what do you expect for food on a boat? The past two years the bar has run out of Corona for our event. Again, I think this is just because of the lack of storage on the boat but I will be asking for them to stock up on Corona if we do the event again next year. My boyfriend snagged a free certificate for 2 for their Happy Hour cruise, I'm surprised no one else has reviewed this specific cruise yet! Let me fill ya in. The cruise is offered each Tuesday & Thursday and leaves at 5:30 pm. They board around 5:20 so plan to be there on time. You load on up behind Pier 106 Seafood Tavern. We get on the boat and my first impression is "Wow, this an old boat". My second impression is "Yay, they have the cocktails & food out already!". On their website it says appetizers are not meant to be a substitution for dinner, um yea right. When I am racing home from work, have to pick up my boyfriend and then find parking, I'm not really going to have time to eat before I board the boat. It would be nice if the cruise started at 5:45 pm just to give us more time to get there. On the menu and included with your $24 ticket: -Unlimited vodka & lemonades. These had really no vodka and the vodka they did have was Burnett's or something else crappy, maybe there was a pirate on the bottle, I'm not sure. But either way, I didn't expect top shelf. I was hoping for an actual buzz though. I heard older folks complaining about this as well. -Advertised meat & vegetarian apps. On that day's menu was caprese "spoons", spinach & artichoke dip with pita, a mountain of assorted cheeses, crackers and summer sausage, and ham and cheese croquettes. The food was okay actually, the dip not so much. There was so much cheese leftover which was too bad. Maybe a little less next time? There were about 45 people on this trip and the boat holds 110, not super crowded. Litterally everyone flocked to the outside patio areas so that got crowded. After you finished your teeny tiny drink of lemonade you had to squeeze through people to get back inside the boat to get a refill. After two of those I decided to pay $6 for a Lakefront IPA. Yes they do have a cash bar and lots of people ended up buying their own drinks because the free one was that bad. The tour goes until 7 pm and is pretty relaxing if you get an outside seat and just take in the sights along the Milwaukee River. They go out into the lake and turn around a bit past Discovery World. Most of the people on this boat were middle aged and quiet, maybe there are times it gets rowdy. They do play music, mostly danceable 90's jams. And yes, there are bathrooms! I was very worried about this before getting on the boat for 1.5 hours. I wouldn't personally do this again unless it were free, but it wasn't the worst way to spend my Tuesday evening. read more

As a transplant from Michigan to the Milwaukee area I always felt like I was on the wrong side of the lake. Milwaukee in general was awesome but I longed for the nostalgic sunsets you experience on the MI side of the lake. Well that all changed after taking the Happy Hour Sunset Cruise. I really wanted to do a river cruise for my birthday, but I didn't want to break the bank for myself or my friends. Edelweiss had the perfect solution! I booked a Saturday evening (5pm-6:30pm) Margarita Cruise for $30. The drinks were light on booze, but that is to be expected. It was bottomless Margaritas, with a taco bar. I personally did not eat any of the food as I don't trust other people when it comes to open style buffets, but several of my friends were delighted with the tacos and went back for more. Booking the cruise was easy as I was able to set up a group name so it was easy for me to track how many of my friends were attending. One friend waited too long and the cruise was sold out, but after calling the booking office we were able to get all of my friends on the boat hassle free. Truly a fun experience, we all had a great time and enjoyed the unique view that can only be seen from the river. I will definitely be booking another cruise with them! read more

This was a very nice tour of the Milwaukee river with a great history guide. The ride was about 1.5 hours and the beverage prices were in line with most bars and tourist attractions. Unfortunately the Milwaukee river is still pretty dirty but apparently much better than it used to be, but that's not the fault of the cruise line. Seating could have been a little better, a lot of folks had to stand so they could fill to capacity, the crowded folding chairs can get uncomfortable after a short while but overall a nice experience and good way to see quite a bit of Milwaukee and learn some history along the way read more

I have participated in three types of Edelweiss Cruises. I will provide commentary on all three. 1) Margarita Cruise: August 2015 - A group of friends purchased tickets for us to share in the experience for my birthday. We had approximately 10 people in our group and the boat was full. I've read some of the other reviews and I'm confused as to the hostility . . .it's a $28 cruise that includes margaritas, tacos, and beautiful scenery of Milwaukee. .what is there to complain about??!?!?! I couldn't have asked for a better little birthday excursion. Did I expect to get wasted on margaritas in an hour and a half on a boat? NO! If that's your intent, take your $28, go to the liquor store, and drink at home. I would definitely do this cruise again. 2) Private Party Cruise - Fall 2016 - I attended as a plus one with my friend for her company's retirement party. I felt Edelweiss did an amazing job of organizing, serving, and making the experience very nice for all involved. The food was good. Buffet style and a nice cheesecake for dessert. I would definitely consider this type of option for an event in the future. 3) Historic Milwaukee Cruise - July 2017 - Before an evening at Jazz in the Park we decided to participate in the Historic Milwaukee Cruise. The tour guide was amazing, the bartender was very nice, and the views were spectacular. In addition, seeing Summerfest was going on at the same time, it added to the ambiance and we were able to take in the festivities from a different angle. The fiesta cruise was so crowded that if you were not among the first few on the boat, you waited in an interminable line for most of the cruise to get a drink. A "split" of Prosecco was only about 3 ounces. The margaritas appeared to be missing the tequila altogether. The tacos were bland, bland, bland. We never got outside to enjoy the view or lovely weather because the decks were jam packed with people. Never again. read more

Went on a dinner cruise with a work event. It was great! The boat is a large enough space that it didn't feel crowded or packed in even with our very large group. The servers and bar tenders were great. Very attentive and helpful. The food was GREAT! The spinach and artichoke dip was some of the best I've ever had. The buffet style main meal was very good. We had several things to chose from and I wasn't disappointed with anything I tried. The turkey was especially delicious - very tender and juicy, not at all dry or cold like you might expect from a buffet on a boat. The cruise along the river and out into the harbor was very nice. It was fun watching all the bridges lift for us as we cruised under. Once we made it out into the harbor there was a beautiful view the MKE skyline. We went all along the Summerfest grounds, into a marina with lots of little boats anchored all around, and out near the lighthouses. Once we came back in to the river we went over to the more industrial side of the river way. This is the only thing I am docking a point for -- IT STUNK! Like wow it was ripe. Smelled like a sewage plant or something along those lines. Thankfully it didn't last very long and we were taken back to fresh air :) I enjoyed the dinner cruise VERY much overall. NOTE: In the last three weeks we have taken an Edelweiss Cruise twice for two totally different occasions. Occasion #1: we chartered a private dinner cruise for our Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. Occasion #2:Champagne Brunch Cruise (a wedding gift). Chartered Private Dinner Cruise: 5/5 Stars - 2 hour cruise (6:45- 8:45pm) down the MKE river and to Lake Michigan. The views were simply amazing. Also, you can bring an iPod/mp3 player and they will hook it up to your sound system using their auxiliary cable, so we brought our own dinner music. They also set out candles and small bud vases and will help you set-up different table configurations to best suit your party. - Coordination: My husband and I chartered the Edelweiss I or II for our wedding rehearsal dinner and are SO glad we did. We worked with Jordan at the Edelweiss office and she helped us get everything set-up and coordinated so that everything went without a hitch! - Food: Each is a three course meal and includes rolls, salad, entree and dessert. Entrees - There are different meal choices at different costs (e.g., Duets that include a steak/fish, single steak/chicken, vegetarian, etc) and you are able to offer two choices to your guests (excluding vegetarians) for that particular option. For example, duetsmight be steak/fish, chicken/fish, steak/chicken for $75 and you can offer two of the choices for $75 each. The same applies for single entrees. Salad - Pretty simple side salad, but tasty. Dessert - We had a choice between a chocolate cake (i think) and A Raspberry Mascarpone Torte. We chose the Torte. IT WAS A+ and they gave us the rest of the slices to go. WHERE ARE THESE OTHER PEOPLE EATING? Our food was DELICIOUS. The mashed potatoes were home made and everyone except for TWO people had the filet mignon and said it was the best filet mignon they've ever had. I personally had the mahi mahi and one of our guests and the vegetarian, both were also VERY good. The only conclusion I have is that the other cruises were bigger and therefore prepping food for that many people caused the quality to go down, because ours was delicious. - Beverages: You can choose different bar packages and we chose to add non-alcoholic drinks ($3 per person for two hours) and have a cash bar (they do accept credit cards). The reason for this was because we were only cruising for two hours and didn't think it was worth it to pay for open bar for only two hours. The servers were so nice and we couldn't have asked for a better evening. It was very reasonably priced for our 21 guests and I highly recommend checking it out. Our guests were very happy and they were able to see Milwaukee at it's best. --------- SECOND REVIEW BELOW --------- Champagne Brunch Cruise: 3/5 stars We received this as a gift and the experience was really nice. Honestly, it was a great change for a brunch date for us as it's really hard to get away from the standard MKE brunch scene. I'm not sure how much it cost and I don't know if we'd pay for it, but it was really a nice gift. As soon as we arrived to the boat they had us check in and showed us to our table. At the table was coffee/cream, orange juice (for mimosas), water, and table settings. When we sat, someone came around right away with champagne and coffee and asked if we were going to make mimosas. They kept the liquids flowing and the champagne and coffee were free. I overheard other tables ordering bloody mary's, but I'm not sure how much they cost. Once everyone was seated, the boat began to depart down the MKE river into Lake Michigan and servers began to bring plates of sliced fruit (watermelon, green melon, cantaloupe, pineapple) to every table (1 per person). After fruit was brought, a plate with two bagels and a pile of salmon with dill was brought (cream cheese on the table), then the main course which was an egg frittata, bacon, asparagus, breakfast potatoes, and a slice of french toast. The entree was mediocre because it was almost cold by the time it was brought to us. Because the Harbor Lady is so big and holds so many people, it was probably hard to keep all of the food warm, however, it really didn't do the food any favors. The frittata tasted a little bland and the french toast was cold (though the flavor was good). We ate most of it, but unfortunately we were not impressed. After the meal (~75 minutes in total) we walked around the boat to get views of the city. You can go upstairs to the back of the boat or downstairs to the front/back of the boat. The only thing I didn't like about upstairs was that there were people smoking and you couldn't really move away from them. Dessert is served about 30 minutes until docking and many people don't realize this so their dessert went to waste. I think it would really help if they put signage out letting people know the menu, but maybe they don't have that much notice. Overall, brunch was fun, but not as good as our private dinner cruise. read more

My boyfriend took me here to give me a day late birthday dinner celebration on Friday. My birthday was on Thursday July 5th. So he blindfolded me at 106 pier restaurant to wait for the cruise. The staff here are so nice. The drinks and food was very good. I love it! After dinner I went to use the bathroom. When I came out my boyfriend told me to go upstairs to take pictures of the lake and city view. After a few pictures my boyfriend proposed to me. I almost cried. I said YES of course. Super fun brunch cruise! We walked onto the boat and were served champagne the second we sat down. They even ask you how much champagne you want in your mimosa... obviously all champagne with a splash of OJ ;) The food is decent but the service was great! The staff was super friendly and attentive. My one con is that it was so f**king HOT. Everyone on the boat was sweating. We didn't finish our meal because we were too warm. The restaurant area is closed off with glass windows all the way around. You have the option to go to the top of the boat for some air - which I definitely recommend. We took a historic Milwaukee cruise on a Saturday with some out of town guests. The weather - about 84 and sunny - was almost perfect for a cruise, and I was looking forward to learning a bit more about the history of Milwaukee. However, the narrator for our cruise made a handful of mistakes and mispronunciations throughout the ride, including misquoting several of the dates. Perhaps it was his first run at the mike, but it would have been nicer to have practiced people narrating or even a pre-recorded narration. Went on a cheap tour of the river. It was too foggy to tour the lake. The boat was old,and the smell of fuel was all pervasive. The tour guide literally said that if we wanted information we could look on Google. She made bad jokes about her grandma's sexual behavior. She acted like if you were on a history cruise you were a dork for wanting history information. It was only 20 bucks, but I will never get the two hours back. read more

Our company booked a private client cruise on the largest boat, the Harbor Lady. The cruise was lovely, very smooth & relaxing, and accompanied by an Historic Milwaukee narrative by John Gurda. Captain Brian & our event coordinator Lindsay took good care of us. We received glowing feedback from our clients. It was helpful that it was a beautiful, sunny June day, only a touch on the cool side. Everyone was comfortable as the boat was temperature controlled, with large windows. All our guests had a great view. There was plenty of indoor space with seating for all, and patio seating as well. Even if there had been rain, with all of the indoor seating on this particular boat, the cruise would still have been wonderful. read more

We purchased nearly $200 worth of tickets for 6 for the history tour to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. We were seated in the lower area of the boat inside at a table that had a white cloth and flowers and was lovely. The boat ride itself was nice. The bad part of the tour was we could NOT hear the "history" part of the presentation because the sound system is SO poor. Add to that, fellow patrons were talking loudly during the program. The tour guide tried to encourage the noisy patrons to "use their quiet voices" so everyone could hear, but the sound system was so pathetic no one could hear her pleas. PLUS, a fight nearly broke out between two separate groups on the boat because one group asked the other to please quiet down so people could hear what the speaker was saying. It got very ugly fast. Someone from the cruise staff should have approached BOTH loud parties privately (not in front of everybody) to quiet down for the benefit of those trying to hear. Instead the patrons tried to take the matter into their own hands and it was a disaster. The whole event turned out to be spoiled because of the argument, the name calling, and the profanity shouted in front of families who came to celebrate, enjoy the cruise and learn a bit of Milwaukee history--which was why patrons paid the higher ticket prices in the first place. The cruise company needs to get a better sound system. And, I feel patrons should receive a credit for not being able to hear the history presentation at all. read more

Amazing experience at the Mother's Day Brunch this past Sunday afternoon. The waiters were all younger (20s-30s) but couldn't have been any nicer, helpful, or more accomodating. They frequently made rounds offering champagne and checking on tables, all with a smile and genuine want of serving. The food was delicious and planned for expediting in perfect intervals. As soon as the main course was sent, the boat seized rocking for all to enjoy with a steady stomach! The organizing was pinpoint with the boarding spot easy to locate and launching done in a timely manner. For being sold-out and many children being present, the atmosphere wasn't loud or chaotic but elegant and quieter. My mother and I took my daughter on the brunch cruise for her 17th birthday with 7 of her friends. The boat experience was wonderful. They had the Packer game on which was a great touch. Service was okay but those poor people are running up and downstairs regularly. They handled our allergy orders wonderfully. And they filled our champ (my mom and I only) regularly. This was my first trip to Milwaukee on a girls weekend. We were in from Chicago. Tour was great. But I do have to say the tour was probably great because the weather was amazing. 79 degrees with a slight breeze made it a perfect day to be out on the river and lake. I really enjoyed riding on the canal boat. Other plus, beer was cheap. 4 craft beers for $20.00 was really good. Being from Chicago, thats unheard of, especially on a tour boat. The tour guide was great. I actually did learn some fun facts about Milwaukee and got a chance to learn about other attractions I want to hit up next time I'm back. As for the price of the tour (which I do recommend buying tickets on their website ahead of time) was ok. $16.00 wasn't bad for a guided tour for an hour and a half. read more

I'm on a boat! I did the dinner cruise. It lasts two hours and includes a three course meal. Drinks are extra. The food was ok, nothing great. The meal included a salad as the first course. The salad was good, fresh greens and tasty dressing. Salmon and steak as the second course. The salmon was good and I'm not a big seafood eater. The steak was so-so.. prepared medium, but almost tasted a little gamey on some bites.. and paired with mashed potatoes and green beans. The final course was dessert and was a turtle cheesecake which was not too bad. The problem I had was with the service. Very very slow. The waitress came by one time, probably about 20 minutes after we embarked to take our drink order. Other than that, they never checked if we needed anything else. And there was about a 40 minute delay between the first table they served and the last table they served for each course. I don't know if they were short staffed this evening, but they really could've used another server. I totally would've had more drinks. And I felt a little rushed finishing the dessert, which happened just as we were pulling into the dock. Other than that, it was a decent experience. Can't beat the views! read more

Went on the Margarita Fiesta Cruise over the summer for a bachorettle party. It came with unlimited margarita's and a taco bar. The margarita's were on the sweeter side but you have an Hour and Half to drink up. The taco bar was like you school taco bar. Finely ground beef, taco shells shredded cheese, lettuce, salsa, sour cream and jalapenos The first half an hour was fine but then it just got boring. So we just sat. For $26 dollars it's not worth it to me. I rather go bar hoping with that money. read more

The Festa Italiana fireworks cruise was something special that we won't soon forget. The seats on the top deck filled up fast but that was okay with us. The bar and the free food was downstairs. Beer prices weren't crazy. The food was okay even if only standard fare. The view of the fireworks from out on Lake Michigan was worth the price itself. The cheesy smooth jazz on the boat could have been turned off but that was just a minor detail. Just don't forget to take a jacket even if it's 90 degrees out during the day. My parents took me on the Champagne Brunch cruise as my birthday gift. It was probably one of the best gifts I've had from them! We had a great relaxing time. Champagne and OJ were already on the table when we were seated. A server came by and asked if we wanted any drinks from the bar or coffee. My mom and I ordered the special drink of the day, their sangria. It was good! A fruit salad was brought out and a little after that a basket of muffins and danishes too. Fruit was fresh and juicy. The danishes were a little dry but the muffins were good and moist. About half way through the cruise the main course was then served. We had egg-strata (BIG helping, yummy), bacon&sausage (greasy sausage but I always think that about about sausage, bacon was ok) sliced grilled potatoes (nothing special) and one slice of french toast (favorite of all the foods! Would have definitely preferred another slice over the potatoes!). With just about a half hour left of the cruise the dessert was served. It was strawberry shortcake. Nice and moist, very good. The service was great. Even though one lady took our drink order I think they all work together because a different person served different courses and everyone helped clear. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The boat was clean and looked nice too. To top it off it was a beautiful sunny day. I would recommend this cruise. My boyfriend and I really want to do another one before the season is over and or try a dinner cruise! read more

Overcrowed. Hardly any outside seating. This is a window enclosed boat ride on the Milwaukee river. Went on the cruise with a taco bar meal. Two barely filled taco shells. Avoid this business. read more
