    Brown sugar latte
    Alyssa A.

Grabbed a quick coffee here today. They only had one size for their latte (12oz) and it was about $7 after everything. Got the brown sugar latte, ams was going to share, but it was too small. Wish there were more size options. Service was okay, we didn't sit in the shop but there was a lot of open space.

Waiting for our grilled chicken sandwich

They changed ownership, hardly any sandwich options. We shared a grilled chicken sandwhich but tbh it was a chicken burger-served on hamburger bun. When I asked for them to cut it in half(sharing with husband) the guys in back were grumpy.Cook said they had no plates either (sandwhich crammed in tiny plastic container) Sadly they don't carry my husband's Figueroa Danish Red anymore. The sandwhich was just OK,little dry.Definitely not shareable, just for one person. The staff overall standoffish. We probably wouldn't come back.

    Açaí Bowl

Açaí Bowl really hit the spot. Tried a protein smoothie from there too, which I would rank the açaí bowl over it. The market has some really great options. The breakfast burrito on the main floor is good, but definitely unique from the traditional one you'll get. Plenty of sneaks for hitting the road as well. Also, very clean bathrooms!

Great selection on tap for a decent price. Just sucks they hardly open the side patio anymore. Sitting here on a beautiful day baking in the hot sun because they didn't open on the side. Just lost a regular.

Friendly service and great food for a quick bite (chicken wrap was super good)! Clean ambience and convenient location!

    Acai

Love the Acai bar downstairs. They have quite a few flavors but definitely get a bed of just the regular. A little too much of the blue on mine and it had a weird stringy texture. Very customizable bowl great location.

Absolutely delicious burgers, chicken sandwiches & tacos!!! The ownership just changed hands but the food is still amazing. They have awesome selection of snacks, candy, and coolers for reach-in drinks. The Avila burger is huge and loaded with delicious toppings. The fries are Crisp and hot. The Carnitas tacos are homemade the night before and the salsa really makes it.

What the hell happened to this place? How disappointing... what happened to not only the toppings but the fresh toppings? I'm talking about the fresh cut strawberries and pineapple... What happened to the almond butter, gogi berries, cacao nibs, and the higher quality granola... not the baked quaker oats. The strawberries and pineapple looked like they were straight from a can. I have never been to an açai bowl place where the strawberries and pineapple came from a can. As a healthy option, typically acai bowls do not come with toppings from a can. Not to mention, the peanut butter being J.I.F or Skippy? Seriously? With all the options being slimmer and MUCH lower quality... how did the size small go from $9.00 unlimited toppings to $12.50 with 3 toppings only. The entire reputation of this business has been ruined. I am so disappointed. The gal working was really sweet and helpful but i will not be back here.

Went to get chicken tenders and at checkout, girl with pink hair was sweet but the girl w light brown hair had a terrible attitude! If you're gonna work the cashier at least try to be friendly. Also plastic containers are terrible! For a beach front shop you would think they wouldn't contribute to the plastic problem. Tenders were so hot it MELTED through the plastic. Never coming back that's for sure.

    Very inedible fish and chips

Are they open on MLK Day?

Yes! They're open even holidays because they have a store downstairs aside from the restaurant and bar that you walk in.

The way it works is you order at the bar, and then they will take down your phone number to text when your order is ready. However, it seemed like they were more using the loud speaker because I didn't receive the text until 9:57pm that night. My order was ready at 6:53, so we were looking at about a 23 minute wait - which I think is fair given how busy it was. The food itself was just okay to me. I didn't think it was anything to write home about, but that could be because I had some really great tri tip at the SLO Farmer's Market the day before. However, I will say, I really liked this place for the environment. There was live music, and a lot of table and chairs to just look out at the water and just enjoy the views. It was super family friendly, and I found it to be really enjoyable to just sit and hang out. I did find it odd that they close early (8pm) on a Friday night. At 7:59pm, the employees will come up to you to let you know that they close at 8pm, so it seems like they are strict about that.

To sit here is to be seduced by the Pacific's rhythmic pulse, a panoramic distraction that almost--almost--masks the architectural and emotional exhaustion of the room. The décor suggests a space in transition, or perhaps an identity crisis. It bears the unmistakable look of a "palimpsest"--a new design hastily layered over the ghost of a previous one, creating an aesthetic friction that feels more like a temporary stage set than a permanent sanctuary. This weariness extends to the staff, who navigate the floor with a palpable, heavy-lidded misery, as if the sheer beauty of the coastline has become a burden they are no longer interested in carrying. The kitchen, however, still possesses moments of genuine, startling clarity. I opted for the "Trio," a format that usually promises variety but often delivers compromise. Not so here. The sandwich was a minor triumph of construction and flavor, a high-water mark for a casual lunch. It was flanked by a clam chowder of remarkable depth--creamy without being cloying, and singing with the brine of the sea. Yet, the meal is not without its turbulence. The accompanying salad arrived drowning, a casualty of an over-zealous hand with the dressing that rendered the greens more of a soup than a side. And then there is the matter of the French Onion soup. To encounter a $9 upcharge for a bowl of onions and melted Gruyère is to experience a moment of pure, capitalistic vertigo. It is a price point that suggests a level of luxury the service and the "layered" décor simply haven't earned. As for the amenities, the state of the restrooms remains a mystery--a rare blind spot in an otherwise exhaustive afternoon. Blue Moon Over Avila remains a destination for the eyes, and intermittently, for the palate. If you can ignore the visible gloom of the service and the audacity of the surcharges, the view alone is worth the price of admission. Just perhaps stick to the chowder and leave the French Onion to the high rollers.

While the couple that came in after us was a walk in, got the best view upfront in the patio. So I would not recommend making reservations just walk in and wait if you want a certain spot. We ordered our first round of drinks and Brie for an App, which arrived promptly but delivered by other staff. Didn't see a waiter for the next 20-30 minutes. No second round of drinks, no food order. Stood up and walked to the front where our waiter met me as he walked out from inside. We asked if they forgot about us and got a nonchalant response that they were busy. At which point I just asked for the check and said we would just go somewhere else. He handed me his payment tablet and looked away. 40$ for two beers and cold Brie sprinkled in with some wasted time. No offer to comp the bill, get a manager, or keep us there. So we paid and moved onto another establishment.

Reliable Trail-Side Favorite with Solid Value Woodstone…read moreMarketplace is a seamless fit for any stay at Avila Village Inn, and we made it our go-to spot for breakfast and lunch during our recent visit. The location right along the Bob Jones Trail--literally steps from the inn via the paved walkway--makes it incredibly convenient: grab a coffee or meal without breaking your rhythm after a morning walk or before heading to the beach. Breakfast stands out: generous portions of fresh ingredients, with standbys like avocado toast (creamy, well-seasoned, topped with perfectly poached eggs), breakfast burritos packed with flavor, and hearty bagels or pastries that fuel a full day of activity. The coffee is strong and consistent, and the outdoor patio overlooking the trail adds a relaxed, shaded vibe--great for people-watching or just soaking in the creek-side calm. We took advantage of the 10% discount for Village Inn guests (just mention it at checkout), which makes the pricing feel even more reasonable. Lunch is equally dependable: salads, sandwiches, and hot options that lean fresh and satisfying without being fussy. Service is friendly and efficient--orders come quickly even when busy--and the market side offers grab-and-go snacks, fresh produce, and local items that are perfect for stocking up before the drive home. It's not flawless: the menu can feel a touch predictable (solid but not groundbreaking), and on peak weekend mornings the wait for made-to-order items stretches to 15-20 minutes. Ambiance is casual and functional rather than polished--think market-café hybrid, not upscale dining. Still, for what it delivers--convenient, quality food in a prime trail location with that nice discount--it's a reliable winner we'll keep returning to. Highly recommended if you're staying nearby and want breakfast or lunch without hassle. It earns its spot on every Avila itinerary.

We are here in a very quiet time, March 2026, so a bit cool and unpredictable as well as being here during the week, so many places are not on full time schedules. Anyhoo, we trek on over to Woodstone at about 7:30am, as they open at 7am. Cool place as you can see from pictures. There were a couple others in front of us and when we got to order a friendly dude took our order of two sausage breakfast burritos to go. As we waited, I checked out the kayak and canoe hanging from the rafters. Beautiful wooden works of handicraft. Would be a casual cool place to eat some grub. Shortly after my name was called and I was handed a very heavy bag that contained our breakfast. Impressive weight. We gathered some napkins, utensils and several packs of Tapatio to spice things up. We got back to our ABnB just a block back from the beach. Our intention was to sit on the porch and enjoy the view, but it was a bit windy and cool, so we headed inside. Burritos were still warm and still very heavy! As you can see from the pictures, the burrito was a dense tube of well scrambled eggs, sausage and LOTS of large chunks of potato. My preference for a perfect breakfast burrito is lighter in the potato and prefer hash browns or as a close second, tater tots. Do not give me red potatoes or I move on to the next burrito! Even with the heavier than preferred potato portion, this was a very good breakfast burrito and The Wife and I enjoyed it. The burrito was dense and big, so both myself and The Wife kept the other half to delight us the next morning. I recommend this burrito for breakfast and if I could request less potato, I would ask and pop this up to 4 stars. Go! Eat Well!! HAVE FUN!!!
