What are you looking for in a hotel stay while traveling?…read more INTRO: I often ask myself this as I am selecting my bedroom of choice, usually while sitting in a parking lot surfing through Kayak, Priceline or Yelp. The most magnetic of hotels are the ones that are situated near my planned route (on and off interstates). One that provides a safe, well-lit environment to park my vehicle. One that is close to places required to resupply road snacks, fuel, ice for coolers, etc. perhaps in close approximation to a restaurant or a mall food court - having pizza or Chinese food delivery usually works as well. Having a nearby Cracker Barrel? Yeah... no brainer for me and mine. INSIDE THE LOBBY: I like professional, well-mannered, well-dressed, knowledgeable staff attending the front desk. A serious bonus - this location also had prepared food options and a bar in the lobby area, this is never anything less than a win for the hotel guest. I love when the hotel I select also has a small sundries shop... a guest can pick up a snack, a beverage, microwave popcorn or pizza and such. THE ROOM: For me to be content the room needs to be easy to navigate to, which means luggage carts are a must for me (I usually travel heavy). The room itself must promote comfort & cleanliness. Immaculately vacuumed floors to crisp sheets... From a thermostat that works to spotlessly clean windows, microwave, coffee pot, bathtub, countertops & drawers. A great touch was the lamp on the table with the adjustable head. I liked it because when my better-half was sleeping I could make it so that the light was not masquerading as a suntanning lamp shining on her face. As far as cleanliness goes... When I arrive in a hotel room, I want to be enticed to take the shower I have been waiting to take all day and not have it scare me away. Same can be said for the bed. I don't need chocolate mints on my pillow or hand towels folded into animals atop my bedspread nor do I need 10 pillows of various sizes, I have at least one of those excessive things at home. This isn't home, no matter how long I am staying. Which means that I don't need a view unless I am in a place like Hawaii or on a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, but still it is nice when you discover a view - even if it is just a few snow covered mountains, the next morning when you wake. CHECK OUT TIME: I assume, with each hotel stay that 11 AM is checkout time. Not 12 PM. A Late checkout of 1 PM? That is amazing. I have stayed in many hotels for many different reasons. This stay was to just get away from my home, with all the distractions and pack and repack and repack several backpacks and decide which I will be using when I hike the Pacific Crest Trail later this year. So, having a checkout time of 1 PM was utterly fantastic. Also being near Cracker Barrel and the road leading up to Big Bear was a major plus. A few hours after departing, I was practicing with snowshoes, and self arresting myself with my ice axe in the snow. CONCULSION: Your hotel help my weekend be successful from a backpacker's standpoint. Both me and my better-half thank you for meeting all the criteria I have mentioned in this review. PS: The gentleman assigned to tend to room 232 was also amazing... so professional. In fact, this entire property could be a training facility for so many hotels I have departed from harboring complete and utter disappointment. DO I RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL? Umm, I am reposting this as a Yelp review. As a ten year Yelp Elite, I take my reviews seriously. It is not just a place to whine about every last speed bump and never post the amazing encounters you have experienced. I DO recommend this hotel to fellow Yelp Elites and strangers alike. Bravo Hilton Garden Inn Victorville... We'll be back again.

To be fair, the Hilton Garden Inn Victorville is currently undergoing much-needed renovations, but…read moreI am reviewing the hotel as it stands right now. I stay here every couple of months when I'm driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles at night, because it's a good halfway point. This is a typical roadside hotel and it's definitely not fancy, but it is an okay place to stop for a night while passing through. I am hoping the renovations will make this up to Hilton standards because right now, it is not. The hotel is worn out, especially inside. My room the other night even had a huge hole in the curtain. The furniture has seen better days, there are holes in the walls and tears in the wallpaper. The showers are stained and covered in soap scum, and the hotel provides the cheapest toiletries possible. I think a Hilton should be required to at least provide the upgraded Hilton toiletries, not paper thin soap and low quality shampoo. Unless and until this changes, the toiletries cost the hotel one star. The staff is friendly and the hotel is very clean, it's just old and worn out. The rooms are large and comfortable, with that spacious Garden Inn layout that's perfect for travelers. Each room has a refrigerator, microwave, and amenities like free wifi and free parking. There is a small fitness center, pool and restaurant on property (although I've never seen anyone using any of these). Despite a restaurant in the lobby, the hotel does not offer a free breakfast (even for Hhonors members). You want to eat, you have to pay. There's a small sundries shop in the lobby that's open 24/7 and offers snacks, drinks, and other forgotten items. It's so convenient! The hotel is located right along the I-15 interstate so there are plenty of sit down and quick service places to grab food or drinks before going back to your room. It's not in a fancy location, but I've never felt unsafe staying here even as a female traveling alone. If you're sensitive to noise, be aware that you will get lots of road commotion day and night. That's a caveat of the convenient location next to a busy highway. I'll continue to stay here whenever I need a quick overnight in Victorville, but I do hope the renovations bring a renewed experience. I will report back once the hotel has been fully overhauled!

And boy was she something else.... funny thing is I commended this hotel for having a nice stay while I was there. I repeated that to several of the employess that work at this hotel at the time of me staying there April 11 - April12. I told them it was a nice room.Nice breakfast, quiet, stay.Everything seemed to be great. So why a bad review? First off when I booked my reservation the same day I came to the hotel I made it with hilton honors. Hilton Honors, customer service said we need a card to place on file to hold the room.We do not bill the card until you check in. I asked if I can use different card upon check in than the one I used as the hold for the reservation. They said absolutely. Fast forward to 11:08am when I stepped into the hotel, spoke to a woman I believe named Lina, she was very helpful and I asked her to bill my debit card and not my credit card. I provided her my debit card at the time of check in, even though it was too early to get my room and get my room key. I had to go to work which is why I was there to begin with, so when I returned around five o'clock to get my room key and check into my room unknowingly this hotel charged my credit card. I Specifically asked them not to charge my credit card, and they still did. After they did, they reimbursed my card and then proceeded to process my debit card for the transaction once I checked out of the hotel. Needless to say, they needed to charge my card because they claim I did not give them my debit card at the time I walked in. Even if I didn't, there was no exchange of any room keys nor did I walk into any room. The only thing I had was a reservation for a room at this hotel. All I was simply wanting, was them not to charge my credit card and use my debit card and they still didn't get it right. Then a manager this woman i spoke to calls me back this morning and is very rude and aggressive with me on the phone as if I did something wrong to her. Then she claims to be the owner of the business, which I find very hard to believe being that she had the WORST ATTITUDE. Such a shame, all I was looking for was an apology and all she could do was try to blame me for their INCOMPETENCE. Pathetic

This hotel was great! The room was super clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good.read more

The front desk representative, Jackie Guzman, immediately claimed she was the supervisor and made no effort to accommodate an early check-in or offer any assistance. When I asked to speak with an actual supervisor, she repeatedly said no one was available. After finally checking in later that day, the problems continued the next morning. When I tried to take a shower, I discovered the shower did not work at all. I called the front desk, and again Jackie answered--only to tell me that no one was available to fix the issue until 9 AM. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since we needed to get ready early. We ended up having to wait for the maintenance workers to arrive, and it was **maintenance--not the front desk--**who took responsibility and arranged for me to switch rooms just so I could shower. Overall, this was the worst customer service experience of my life. The front desk staff--especially Jackie--were unfriendly, unhelpful, and dismissive throughout my entire stay. I will never stay at this Holiday Inn again, and I strongly recommend that others avoid this location as well.

My reservation was changed and booked at the normal rate. The following day I was able to access my cell phone and i provided the proper identification to the clerk in the morning. The clerk informed me the rate would be updated and I asked for a receipt and he informed it would be emailed. I left it at that as I have never had any issues with any Marriott that I have stayed at in the past and they have always been honest until I stayed at this location. Later I was looking at my statement and noticed that I was billed at the normal rate and not the discounted rate I qualified for and that I was told the rate would be adjusted to. I called and spoke with the Operations Manager Abigail who did not take any accountability or offer to help in any way. She blamed her employees who she manage for needing additional training and repeatedly explained Marriott policy that the proper identification needs to be presented at check in. I opened a case with Marriott who forward it to the property and she sent me an email to tell me what she already told and still not offering any help or taking an accountability for her employees. I also experienced another issues during my stay where they ran out of breakfast around 9am and it was not over until 10am. There were people knocking on the door asking for things to be replenished and the kitchen worker left out the back door with earbuds in her ear and I heard her say she's going to break. Just sharing my experience with hopes that this location finds management who's more human like, understanding & willing to take accountability!

I've stayed at several establishments, and this is the first time I've been treated like this. Back in October, I was in town for my nephew's funeral. I'm sure not many people check in with a service animal, so I thought there would be a communication memo between the staff. After the funeral, I wanted to come back to the hotel and relax and grieve in private. However, I had to walk my service animal on our way back. The young man at the service desk was very aggressive and raised his voice when he told me that no pets were allowed on the property. He made me feel very uncomfortable, embarrassed, and almost afraid. I was very tired and sad from the sudden death of my nephew, so I finally gave in to the verbal assault just to get to my room to rest and decompress from the negative energy given off by the service desk associate. Well, after checking out the following morning, I normally look at my bill, but I didn't. I just wanted to get home and relax from this sad and stressful trip. A few days later, I did look at it and noticed a $2 charge for a safe that I never used. After reading the small print, I realized that $2 is charged to every guest, which I assume is because if you don't read the small print, you'll be charged that. $2 doesn't sound like much, but if you have 200 guests a week, @ $2 each and 52 weeks in a year, you do the math. It's a sneaky way of making extra profit. My second stay was just one night, and I always try to give hotels or any place a second chance before writing a review. Checking in was wonderful. The young man was very polite, friendly, and even acknowledged my Diamond tier. I also filled out the service animal paperwork, which I've never done at any other property! We even had a short conversation that was very pleasant. As I mentioned, I was only here for a night. However, things took a turn for the worse during breakfast. My wife and I were having our breakfast when it became evident that the other breakfast attendees were unaware that I spoke Spanish. Some of their remarks were quite unpleasant they were making about some of the other guest definitely not lady like As we were leaving, I intended to grab a couple of apples and oranges, but I had forgotten. Upon returning to our room, 223, I asked my wife to run downstairs and grab them for me. Unfortunately, the breakfast attendees informed her that she was not allowed to return. After a few choice words, they relented and allowed her to come back, but only this time. When she returned to the room and informed me about the breakfast situation, I was furious. As I was checking out, I had a conversation with the manager on duty, and she apologized. However, I decided to return the two apples and two oranges to her. If this is the way guests are treated, I can assure you that I will not be staying at this property in the future.
