It is self-entry, so no need to encounter folks on your way in. The suites are located in the back building. Although the walls/ceilings are a little thin, we heard very little during our stay. What a spotless bathroom! The lobby/foyer area of the suite building was nice and there was a coffee maker for you to help yourself. One little minor complaint would be the foam mattress isn't exactly my favorite, but it was very clean and I'm sure won't be a problem for most. But I slept okay, so I won't let it affect the rating. It is also an event space, and the serene countryside would be a perfect backdrop for a wedding. We will return again and I hope to find another quiet, clean, and pleasant stay.

They were very helpful, clear in their direction and easy to work with. The venue itself is the best in Staunton. The vibe/feel of the Banquet room just cannot be recreated in a modern hotel. We used simple decorations of balloon bouquets, trees with white lights and then allowed the room to express itself. It's a wonderful space! The American Hotel Banquet Room was very easy to work with from afar. The first thing that pulled us to the Banquet Room was the cost. Compared to Northern Virginia prices, it was a steal! We also loved that we were able to bring our own alcohol, which saved us probably thousands of dollars. My husband and the groomsmen set up the room beginning at 9 am that morning and I was told that Gary was also excellent to work with. With everything being said and done, I absolutely would have paid more for the space because it was worth every penny. And we got a lot of compliments for picking the room, because it is very original and beautiful!

Said could no longer accommodate us and they had rebooked us at another hotel. No warning, no phone call nor email. Well it would be nice if you could let us know this before driving two hours!! And after booking way ahead of time to boot. We checked with another person who told us the Blackburn was actually overbooked ...So the Blackburn lied to us. Super shady. Have stayed at the Blackburn in the past. (my family actually had an extra ticket for the Santa Claus train two Christmas ago and invited one of the ladies who worked the desk at the Blackburn to come along and she accepted!) I wanted to spend time with my friend who hadn't been to the Blackburn before but it will be a cold day in hades before I book there ever again. You are a luxury hotel not Spirit Airlines!!! But apparently expecting basic concern, hospitality, and customer service was still expecting too much. The room itself was fine. The real problem started on our second night, when the automatic entrance door--apparently programmed to remain open for approximately one second--closed on my girlfriend's head. The front desk employee came out and seemed unsure what to do. We were told, "You have to wait on the manager." Eventually, the manager appeared, asked my girlfriend if she was "okay," and that was pretty much it. No follow-up. No call to our room. No checking later to see whether she was still okay after BEING HIT IN THE HEAD BY THE HOTEL'S AUTOMATIC DOOR. Nothing. I wasn't expecting a medical team and a fruit basket. I was expecting someone in management to show a little genuine concern for a guest who had just been struck by their door. Then there's the bottled water: $6 for 33 ounces. I've stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and somehow survived without paying that much for water. At Hotel 24 S, apparently hydration is a luxury amenity. The experience continued after we left. My girlfriend accidentally left an expensive sandal in the room, so I called the hotel expecting to speak with someone about lost and found. Nope. I was told to contact ILeftMyStuff.com. Seriously? A guest leaves something in one of your rooms, calls YOUR front desk, and the response is essentially, "We don't handle that"? That pretty much sums up our experience. What was most disappointing wasn't the room, the overpriced water, or even the lost sandal. It was the complete lack of warmth and concern from the front desk and management. Everything felt detached and matter-of-fact--as though helping guests was someone else's department. Perhaps my expectations were simply too high. Rest assured, they'll be considerably lower the next time we venture to this quaint little town.

The Staff greeted us and was helpful throughout our stay, the historic building is beautiful and well maintained, the front porch has rocking chairs in a covered porch, and there's complimentary coffee in the mornings (and good coffee too!). The room isn't large, but is attractive, the bed was comfortable and the temperature controls worked well. There's a $15 breakfast buffet that we used once. It's typical eggs, potatoes, meats, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal/grits, and OJ. We went for breakfast a few doors down and spent $26 for 2 bagels and one coffee; I don't think this was an outrageous price at a nice hotel in a nice room with good service. There's an indoor pool that looked good, but we were busy and didn't get a chance to use it. The hotel truly is located in a great location. We ate within walking distance of a couple of good restaurants, and a few of the significant attractions are only steps away (although, be warned, the neighborhood is hilly!) The parking is $7.50 per night in a public lot attached to the building. They charge the parking to your room with in-out privileges.

I have supported this restaurant since they opened, and I came in to place a simple to-go order. A lady with long brown curly hair told me there was a 45 minute wait, and I politely told her that was completely fine. She then hesitated and told me, with an attitude, that she "wouldn't even be putting the order in for 45 minutes." I asked her if she was basically trying to tell me no, and she flat out said, "Yes that is basically what I'm telling you". I was genuinely shocked by how rude and dismissive the interaction was. What makes this even worse is that this is not the first issue I've had with this same employee. During a previous online order, she was passive aggressive and acted like she was "letting it slide" that I ordered a beef bourguignon supposedly meant for dinner only- even though it was literally available on the online ordering page with nothing stating that restriction. She somehow made it seem like I had done something wrong for ordering directly from the menu provided to customers, which I found incredibly off-putting and unprofessional. I completely understand restaurants get busy, and I had no issue waiting. The issue was the attitude, tone, and complete lack of respect shown toward a loyal customer who was polite and treated so poorly. Customer service matters, and unfortunately this experience completely changed my view of this restaurant.
