Beautiful, rustic inn with lovely rooms in the midst of a natural mountain setting. We enjoyed the woods (there are old logging roads to wander), bird song, chipmunks, comfortable bed, and breakfast (packed bag with ham croissant, boiled egg). However our stay was not relaxing, as there were more than 25 stink bugs emerging constantly in our room throughout the evening. They popped up, flying around, even flying to join me in my bath water. Some bugs got away, sneaking under the carpet. When we told the hostess about the bugs, she said that they are found in our room (the room featured in the brochure) more than others because of the big white bathtub in the room. She said she would pass on the bug issue to the cleaning staff. (She did not offer any concessions.) Since the bugs emerged throughout the evening and there were so many, and I doubt this is a problem cleaners could fix. A fumigation is needed. I didn't pay money to be surrounded by bugs in our only vacation this year. I hope the bug problem can be resolved so guests can have a more relaxing stay.

So glad we stumbled on this place! My husband and I were looking for a nice weekend getaway and stayed at the sugar tree inn. If I could rank it higher than 5 stars I would. Bed was super comfortable and they have everything you need! Breakfast was served in the morning with hot coffee! Everyone we talked to was SO sweet and helpful! We hiked the Crabtree falls early Saturday morning which was perfect after breakfast at the Inn! I would definitely recommend staying here!

Nestled in the woods right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Sugar Tree Inn provided us a wonderful escape from our busy city life as we ventured down the Parkway. We had an absolutely amazing two night stay - choosing to stay in the lodge in the Tye River room. Kelly and Russ were amazing hosts that struck the right balance of attentiveness vs privacy. Their website is incredibly detailed in describing the accommodations so you know what to expect. The lodge itself and room was rustic and nicely decorated in keeping with what I imagine a lodge in the mountains should look like. Breakfast was provided every morning - although It was scaled back for us because we stayed during the week (they apparently do a larger breakfast on the weekends...hate to have missed that!). The location was perfect for our day trips to go hiking. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back again!

This is the second time that Kristan and I have stayed at this wonderful bed-and-breakfast! Russ and Kelly are such wonderful hosts! They always go the extra mile to make sure we are well taken care of. So if you're looking for peace and quiet and a chance to get away from the rat race, I would highly recommend checking out the Sugar Tree Inn. Book the Sugar Tree Country room, which has a whirlpool bath that is oh so relaxing. Also, I would be very remiss not to mention the spectacular views from this room of the Blue Ridge Mountains just outside your window! All rooms have a wood-burning fireplace, which is perfect for a stay in the fall or winter. Just picture yourself sitting in a rocking chair in front of a roaring fire with a glass of wine-no distractions. Now that's relaxation. Thanks again Russ and Kelly for a wonderful stay! We look forward to seeing you again in the fall.

In terms of location and surroundings, this is my favorite B&B I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a few. The view was gorgeous, and the drive there was magnificent, even though I was terrified for my life with all those narrow, windy roads and little creatures strolling about. City girls are not used to seeing skunks walking around while driving along the mountainside! We stayed in the Cyrus McCormick (log house, lower level), and the room was fantastic and warm. I was a little worried it would be drafty in there, but it wasn't at all. Very cozy! I could hear the room neighbors a little bit, but not too bad. The fireplace was easy to operate, and there were instructions and some guidance left in the room regarding places to eat, etc. There were toiletries and clean towels in the bathroom, so no need to bring your own unless you're high maintenance about what products you use. The breakfast was served buffet style. They had eggs, breakfast meat, oatmeal and fruit compote, muffins, juice, etc. While this is my favorite B&B in terms of location, the rustic log cabin look, and the view, it wasn't my favorite in terms of food. There was certainly plenty to eat and everything was yummy (but all fairly normal things people make at home), and when it's served buffet style like that, you lose out on the whole charm of a small B&B. Everyone comes around the same time, and there are a lot of rooms/houses, so it's packed with guests all dining in the breakfast area. It's not romantic and peaceful like plated breakfasts where guests are given different breakfast time options. We did have a very lovely time there and hope to return again soon. I had forgotten a hoodie in the closet there and they emailed to ask if I wanted them to send it back. I hadn't paid much for it and it had no sentimental value, so it wasn't worth mailing and we emailed back saying thanks for asking, but we didn't need them to send it back as it was very inexpensive. However, they replied that it was no trouble at all and they could bill the credit card for the postage, which upset my boyfriend because he was wondering why the information was stored and why they'd automatically charge it when we already said it wasn't worth mailing back. Anyway, they didn't mail it back and no additional charges were made, so all's well that ends well!

Very peaceful, cozy, rustic stay. Super nice people with plenty of recommendations. Close to Crab Tree Falls which is a classic/great hike. They have an awesome reusable water bottle system with plenty of drinks and snacks to purchase while you're there. Included breakfast was fantastic! Only con is if you are planning to go to some activities/wineries/breweries closer to Charlottesville/Crozet. Those were around an hour drive. However, we just planned all those activities in the same day to avoid doing that drive multiple times. read more

If you enjoy a rustic cabin setting in the mountains, with the ability to disconnect from your busy lifestyle, with complimentary gourmet meals for breakfast and personalized service from a wonderfully dedicated couple, then you are in for a treat! It was just what we needed for a quick getaway. I am telling everyone, please come and enjoy this little gem with great wineries and activities a short drive away! read more
Three of us visited for 2 nights in August and loved it! The cabin we stayed in was rustic but clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was more than adequate. The family running this place was charming. We enjoyed breakfast at the main lodge. Sipping coffee while sitting on the porch during the rain was delightful. For context, my review may be a little colored since the other cabins were nearly all empty during our stay. You should be aware that there is no WiFi and we found cellphone data coverage to be a bit intermittent. Unanimously, we would recommend this place! read more

Super friendly couple from Minnesota bought this place a little over a year ago and have made a lot of great upgrades. Come here to disconnect and relax in the mountains for a while. Great spot to jump off for a mountain hike. We've been here three times now and we always enjoy ourselves. O check this relaxing place out. read more

Spur of the moment decision we took a ride up to enjoy the changing of the leaves on a beautiful sunny day. My husband found Sugar Tree Inn online and as it was only a couple hours from Richmond, very do-able last minute. What you see on the website is what you get, the owner made a point to warn of the winding road to reach the Inn..very accurately at that. Road is scary but when you get to the Inn you see well worth it! Our room was very comfortable as was the bed and with a fireplace! No tv which was wonderful, enjoyed our books and a glass of wine and if you forgot your wine or feel Ike something else, there are bottles of Virginia wines and a fridge with beers and soda for purchase In the kitchen. After a great sleep we woke to an incredible breakfast made by Brenda's dad. The dining room was full with people from as far away as Britain to another couple from Cincinnati. The Inn had been so peaceful, I thought we had it to ourselves. All in agreement, this place is so special, it's remote, and was just what we had hoped for, just lovely! Thank you Brenda and Kevin! read more

If you book here, do not read the Guest Booklet or you will be expecting the sheriff pounding at your door any minute. The pages are filled with what will happen to you and how much you will be charged if you steal a pillow, a towel, or anything else. Welcome! The Inn was full Sunday night but no dinner was served. We got $10 soup in a cardboard bowel that we had to eat at a game table despite there being a dining room (which was locked). We were in the Shenandoah Suite and the people above us walked the very squeaky floorboards ALL night so be prepared for thin walls, ceilings, and floors, and intermittent sleep. The only thing good about this place is its location. read more

On our travels on the Blue Ridge Parking, we were most fortunate to find The Sugar Tree Inn. Nestled in the forest right off the parkway this hidden gem provide a restful stay. Beyond paradise! I don't know what Sarah W. is talking about in her one star review... because we have lodged in the finest hotels and resorts around the world... and Sugar Tree Inn is one of the nicest of them all! Actually, we've stayed here for something like 12 nights in one year! I'm an author, speaker, and leader of hundreds... with tremendous responsibility. What I love about Sugar Tree the most, is the total reset I experience during each visit. The innkeepers are kind and loving, uncommonly hospitable, and never smothering. The facilities are like something out of a Nicholas Sparks story... like a fairytale! Staying here is more than a visit, it is a life experience! You'll see! read more

This B&B is a great getaway. Wife and I were looking to escape technology and our alarm clocks for a couple of days. Jeff and Becky were great hosts, tour guides and chefs. Breakfast was great and we had dinner one night. I think the dinner was better than the breakfast. Wife had beef, I had pork. Both served with salad, haricoverts and couscous. The couscous was cooked in some sort of broth that was savory and delicious. The meats were fork tender and had good flavor to them. We stayed in the lodge and it was so peaceful and quiet. Although there were other guests, we were the only ones staying in the lodge. Room was spacious and the blankets were so warm. We explored nearby Lexington and had an amazing lunch at Kind Roots. Some have remarked on the windy road leading up to the property, it's seriously no big deal. If there were icy conditions, there is one bend that might cause some trouble but even in heavy rain, I wouldn't worry about it (we have a small hatchback). For 2 nights and one dinner, it was $500 including tax and meal gratuity. It's on the pricey side, but we'll definitely be back. read more

I was surprised to see Jeff's response to our review more than a year after we stayed at the Sugar Tree and posted our review. He claims that we did not stay there. My husband and I stayed at the Sugar Tree on August 16, 2011 during a bicycle touring trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The reservation was under my name and we had several conversations with Jeff during our stay. All Jeff needs to do is check his records and he will see that we stayed with him. I can only speculate on why he would choose not to remember us. Our experience there was very poor in terms of the hospitality of the owners, as we stated earlier. I am glad that others have had better experiences but we would never consider staying there again. read more

Sugar Tree Inn was a welcome oasis during a long weekend of hiking! Russ and Kelly went out of their way to make sure we were pampered - even accommodating my diet restrictions despite not telling them ahead of time. They also thoughtfully packed us a breakfast bag to take on our hike as we started our day too early to eat at the Inn. Knowing our itinerary, Kelly left bath salts for the jetted tub which made the difference in soothing my aching feet and legs. Tasty food, comfortable rooms, and gracious hosts. We would gladly stay at the Sugar Tree Inn again. read more

This is sort of a strange review as I've never actually stayed at Sugar Tree Inn. My parents, however, recently stayed here for their 40th anniversary. My siblings and I ordered a champagne gift basket and flutes to be delivered for them at the Inn. The owner, Becky, worked with us every step of the way, from letting us know that the gift basket had arrived, asking us how we'd like it set up, chilling the champagne and just being absolutely lovely the whole time. We had some shipping troubles with the flutes and the owners were so wonderful and helpful working with us to check for the package several times, calling and emailing us to keep us updated. My parents had a wonderful time and really enjoyed their stay. After the awesome service of the owners, I had to give a shout out and good review. You don't often find that kind of service in this day and age. read more

What a wonderful inn! My husband and I stayed here 2 nights for our 2 year anniversary, and even though the weather was crummy we had a great time. Jeff and Becky were really welcoming and friendly, and the inn is adorable. Loved all the cozy fireplaces and the front porch chairs, and the dinner we had there one night was great as well. Great access to hiking trails -- check out the nearby Crabtree Falls Trail, it's gorgeous. We'll definitely be back. Thanks for a lovely weekend! read more

The place was great-- it's tucked away on the mountainside, which makes for an interesting drive up. The view from the main lodge's porch is simply breathtaking! Breakfast was delicious and huge every morning-- baked oatmeal, fresh [hot!] biscuits and muffins, eggs, sausage, ham, cheese grits, fresh fruit... you get the idea. You'll be about 30 minutes outside of Lexington here, and a good 20 mins away from the nearest store. They do serve dinner, which we didn't have so I can't comment, and they also have a fridge that you can store food/beverages in while you're there. The inn keepers were extremely friendly & uber helpful-- even before we made the reservation, they were fantastic about answering our questions and helping us make plans for what to do when we were in the area. Also, free wi-fi but only in the main lodge, and cell phone service is iffy. There is a phone in the main lodge that you could also use if needed. read more

Wonderful, peaceful, delicious, welcoming, what else can I say to describe our stay. Jeff and Becky were perfect hosts. The room, Tye River Room, was just what we expected. The bedding was lusciously soft. Breakfast was homemade, mmmmm good. The area that the inn is located is very close to both the Blue Ridge parkway and Skyline drive, very convenient. Thank you for such a wonderful experience, we will be coming back for sure! read more

My mom and I absolutely loved our stay at Sugar Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast. This was a Mother's Day gift and my very first bed and breakfast experience, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, it truly felt like home. Brenda and Kevin were so kind and welcoming and made us feel more like family than guests. The scenery was beautiful, the atmosphere was peaceful, and getting amazing sleep for two nights was exactly the reset we needed. What stood out most was the genuine care they showed. I had a little car trouble during the trip, and they went out of their way to help connect me with the right person and make sure everything got handled. That says everything about the kind of people they are. My mom and I are focused on creating more meaningful memories together, and this was one of the best experiences we've had in a long time. We're already looking forward to coming back again! read more

My husband and I love staying at The Sugar Tree Inn ... we've been making the drive down here for almost ten years and usually stay for a long weekend. You can't beat the clean & cozy cabins; the fresh mountain air and the incredible hosts. The included breakfasts were delicious! We enjoy sitting out on the front porch after dinner and watching the hummingbirds come to the feeders.
