I can't believe I forgot to take pics of our food! How dare I! So my hubby and myself as well as another couple drove up from Phoenix to cut down our Christmas trees. We were allll starving by the time we got to town. I went on yelp and Avery's was the top restaurant in the area with about 80+ 5 reviews. Well who's passing up this good bbq when in town? We sure weren't! Im from SC so the Crazy Carolina pulled pork caught my attention immediately. This with my corn on the cob took me back home for a few seconds. The pulled pork was so juicy and tender. Best spent $10 that day. My husband ordered 1/4 lb of pork and beef. He's quite the foodie and can be a harsh food critic. He was impressed. The other couple with us order the pork and beef as well as a salad. There were absolutely no complaints. And what's better than 5 star bbq in a family owned restaurant? The customer service! After a long road trip through Arizona to Utah to Colorado to New Mexico, we came back to Arizona through Springerville, AZ. A friend directed us to the best food in northern Arizona: Avery's. Well, I am here to tell you that this restaurant has the best barbeque I have ever eaten! A husband and wife operation for the past 4 1/2 years, they have it perfected. The ribs, brisket, pulled pork, beef barbeque are "on point"! Hearty portions, reasonably priced with an excellent selection of sides make this a must stop if you're in northern Arizona. Wow!! What a find up here. We are from the Phoenix area and would put Avery's up against any bbq place there. The brisket was so moist and flavorful there was no need to smother it with sauce. You would want to though it is so unique and good. The rib meat fell off the bone. Loved the pecan coleslaw. Highly recommend this place. read more

Pretty good food the brisket was just okay the ribs was excellent the macaroni and cheese was very good and creamy and the breaded french fries were off the foot good the service was a little slow but all in all I would eat there again also the sausage was pretty good but the kids didn't like it cuz it was a little hot read more

My boyfriend and I are currently traveling across the country on foot. After walking for five months, we finally made it to the state of Arizona. While passing through Springerville, AZ (which is the first town that we hit after leaving New Mexico) we stopped at Avery's, a "mom and pop" one stop shop. Avery's includes a gas station, BBQ, bar & grill and RV park. It is super convenient for travelers (especially those who are traveling cross-country). We originally stopped to stock up on supplies for our 50 mile trek to the next town of Show Low. As we were picking out some drinks and snacks at the convenience store, we smelled the BBQ and instantly knew that we had to try it. We were greeted by Lance Avery, he and his wife Liz own the establishment and work there six days out of the week. We asked him what he would suggest, he told us that his personal favorite item on the menu is the pulled pork sandwich. We couldn't decide on only one thing, so the two of us shared a rack of ribs and the sampler (which includes BBQ chicken, beef brisket & pulled pork). We also got the mac & cheese and pecan coleslaw for sides. We have walked through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas & New Mexico and Avery's BBQ is by far the best we have had since we started our journey in Florida. Who would have known that the best BBQ would come from the small town of Springerville, Arizona! That isn't to say that we didn't have great BBQ in the other states. Every BBQ restaurant we had been to before had their specialty, which was always the best prepared meat on their menu. What sets Avery's BBQ apart from the others is that every meat was so delicious, we couldn't figure out what their specialty was! We finally asked, and Lance told us that their ribs are their specialty (which are absolutely fall off the bone AMAZING) but that doesn't make any of their other meats any less special. After stuffing ourselves with BBQ, we decided to hop on over to the bar & grill area for a drink. The Watering Hole isn't your run of the mill country bar. Equipped with pool tables, air-hockey, darts, and live music on the weekends, this cozy western style bar & gill has something for everyone. The bar has a great variety of spirits and beers on tap. They also have multiple drink specials but Liz can whip up pretty much anything you can imagine. By the time we were done chatting with Liz and the locals at the bar, it was too late for us walk any further so we decided to stay the night at the RV park behind the shop. In the morning, we finally stocked up on our supplies and headed west toward Show Low. With the combination of the convenience (of this "one stop shop"), incredible BBQ, and Liz & Lance's hospitality, Avery's definitely made an impression on us. Read all of the reviews and decided to try Avery's. I shared my ribs which were delicious and fell off the bone. My fiance had the beef brisket which fell apart in his mouth. The sides were decent, the salad was good sized, the rings and mac n cheese were okay. We are trying to figure out how to get back here again tomorrow. Unfortunately we have to leave in the morning. Oh so yummy!! The Mac n cheese is the best I have ever had. Chicken and brisket can tend to be dry, but not here. Pork, beef, chicken, and ribs were all moist and juicy. Interested coke slaw that was terrific. I thought the BQ rolls would be rolls to put the meat on. I was wrong. They were little bbq egg roll things that were fabulous for an appetizer. Hubby wasn't thrilled with the beans. He is a bbq bean snob and is so hard to please in that department. The food took a little while to come out, but that just meant everything was cooked to order and everything was delicious. I was disappointed that they were out of sausage. Oh well. It was worth the trip after Yelp got us lost. Don't follow Yelp's directions. Good job, Averys!! read more

Would have rated it higher but the bartender was terrible. My husband and I live about 40 miles away in Show Low and wanted to try Avery's out having heard such wonderful things. We chose to sit in the bar to have drinks and dinner. You order the food your self and pick it up when ready. We ordered the sampler platter that had brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. Very good brisket, moist and tender, chicken as well was delicious. Pulled park was good but nothing special. We will get the brisket and chicken again though. The bar had 10 people in it including us. I had to get up to get another drink for myself because she never came back to our table. Then my husband wanted another beer and I went up again to the bar to get it and she just continued to yik yak with 2 woman sitting at the bar. I stood there for at least 5 minuted and final gave up. We stopped here based on yelp reviews and wanting to have BBQ on our way out of town. DEFINITELY worth the stop. Great traditional BBQ. We had three pulled pork sandwiches and a beef brisquet sandwich with Mac n' Cheese, corn on the cob and sweet potato fries. The Mac and Cheese was homemade with loads of cheese and was a hit with everyone. The corn had their spice rub on it which was great for the adults, not so much the kids. Their sauce is good but doesn't have a spicy bite that we're used to at home at Joe's BBQ...but it was good. They only served Pepsi products so if you're Diet Coke drinkers like us, that's a ding. Slightly strange that it was next to a gas station/bar, but we were in the middle of nowhere and it added to the quirky country/po-dunk ambiance. My son and his fiancee were having their wedding in Greer. We needed someone to cater the rehearsal dinner and my first thought was Avery's. We've loved their food since they first opened, so it was no question who we would ask to do this. Liz was great to work with. She responded to phone calls and texts quickly, was extremely organized, and reasonably priced. She even came out before the event to check out where she would be setting up. The night of the rehearsal dinner, she came a bit ahead of the time I'd set up with her. She set up her table, served the guests, even helped collect plates, etc. as the guests finished their meals. She was amazing!!! We loved working with Liz, and Avery's did themselves proud. It was a wonderful experience and our guests raved about the food and service. So not a lot to do or places to eat in Springerville but Avery's is the jewel of this little town. I am a bbq snob and loved everything I've had so far from this place. Also Avery's is a bar at night with a good sized dance floor and dance lessons on Friday from 7-8 pm . I had a great time and they have a great selection of beers on draft.
