great place to eat and great food..there is always BUT... ! but the stuff rude and lazy! slow service and a lot of attitude that make you want to get up and leave. which we did few times and they lost our business to the grand cafe.!! the hostess was unfriendly and ignore us.. by the time she pay attention to us she also dare to call us RUDE! the place was half empty and yet it took us 20 minutes to get a waitress to take our order.. ridiculous stuff !! the worst service that I saw. will not go back to sit there!! read more

I love the food (but their crepes suck)... they make a decent frap! too crowded, again service is slow... astoria needs some new waitresses... the reason they are not getting anymore stars is because of the service... sorry... the baristas are okay though... and the mixed drinks are great. not to expensive read more

I come here randomly usually past 9pm. Every time I have visited here I got fast service. Never had to wait for a seat for longer than 5 mins. The food arrives quick even when it's busy. It had gotten a little better lately. Great place to have a drink, eat and watch a game. Plenty of TVs all over the place. read more

People come here for the outdoor seating and people watching. Food is okay but overpriced. I found my waitress not friendly or attentive.

Awesome place during the summer!!! Great food and full of young trendy people.

One of the best cafe in NYC. Food is decent, of what i have tried, but I never go to cafes for food, I go to relax and have coffee or drinks with friends. Avenue is a CAFE--- you go there for coffee or drinks. If you need to order something off the menu to go with your coffee, I recommend highly the nutella crepe with fresh fruit. Its excellent. "Going for coffee" in Greek culture is a multiple hour, hang out/chill out event, and this is a place where the proprietors and waiters understand that. Staff doesn't hassle you like other New York joints. If you want to enjoy this sort of Greek hangout culture in New York city, you go to Avenue, and get your Greek Frappe or Freddo, which are very popular iced coffee drinks in Greece, or some beers and hang out with your friends. This place is a modern Greek style cafe like what you'd find over there, so its mostly popular for young people and Greeks. You can get Greek iced coffees, drinks --- its really a great/trendy place to just hang out, and not overcrowded/chaotic in Manhattan, but in quiet, nearby Astoria, and at a refreshing slower pace (service too). The bad reviews are from people who went in with totally wrong expectations. As for the service, who seriously cares if they "check-in" on your meal? There's an abundance of horrible over service in NYC, you can go there if you like being interrupted every five minutes by waiters. If you need a waiters attention wave them over like a normal person would. Avenue is my favorite cafe in Astoria, needless to say. read more

There are other cafe's on 30th Avenue that are worth going to. The hostess has a shitty attitude and she checks you out as if she is judging you. The place is NOT laid back and the food is okay. The food can be better for the price you pay. Their alcohol is NOT worth it for the price they are charging. Honestly, if this place changed their staff and cook, it would be a better place in my opinion. read more

Over rated!!!! way too expensive and the service sucks, the only reason i have to stop by there is to meet my girlfriend, she likes it but what does she know about food and dining. read more

Food is just okay here... Atmosphere is better.. Service=mediocre (couldn't even understand her and had to repeat ourselves numerous times).. Had an omelette and it was pretty dry...Eh... Come here a lot tho for the smoking section considering the people I'm with are always smoking so that's decent for them at least.. Just at night it's really dark if you're in that section, could def have like a hanging lamp or something.. Meze platter is the win here, go for the large if you're with 4 people.. Everyone will be happy. read more

Went here for brunch with my boyfriend and just had a horrible experience. It was a Saturday not very busy and no server came over for a solid 10 minutes. Once she did it took another 10 mins for our drinks to come out and then another 5-10 mins for our food to come out. When my food came out, I had one of the waffle brunch specials, everything was cold. Really wanted to love this place but was so annoyed but every aspect of this meal read more

The food isn't bad, I tried a little bit of everything. The service is mostly average or not good, the neon lights aren't helping the decoration. read more

Sometimes this place is a hit or miss. Came here on a Saturday for drinks and dessert. Surprisingly our waitress was friendly and attentive and at the end they changed waitresses on us since it slowed down. Our 2nd waitress was not so friendly. The drinks are okay. We also ordered the veggie pizza which was good and the chocolate cake which was ok as well. The music was way toooooo loud. I could barely hear my friend and we were having a loud conversation because of it. They did play good songs though. read more

Great hang out spot and opens past midnight. I love getting coffee and dessert here. I highly recommend the Chocolate Mud Cake and the Waffles with ice cream... Absolutely delicious with beautiful presentation (totally instagram worthy, haha). Service was friendly and efficient. read more

The avocado burger is really good. the service was also really professional and quick. I approve

Nice brunch menu (including weekdays) and courteous staff.

i love their brunch here! its a nice place in a busy area in Astoria. I love sitting enjoyingmy coffee outdoors in the summer/spring/fall. Service is quick but sometimes theres a bit of a wait to get a table. read more

This place it is A-Must go. Best salads in the neighborhood! The reason why I don't give a 5 stars is because service it's not great and it can be improved! I usually go for brunch on weekends and for lunch. Great spot! read more

The minute I walked in was a problem ! The host was so rude and very unprofessional ! I was speaking to her and she was so rude and started talking to two other people like I didn't even ask her a question ! Took forever for a waitress to come over to the table and they Messed up on of our meals , which took forever to get !!! The best thing that happened was the comped the desert which was actually really good !!! The only thing that was good , Waffle with Nutella which is hard to mess up anyway ! read more

looking for something tasty, inexpensive, and with outdoor seating, alyvia m. and i decided to give this place a try. the menu is pretty diverse, entrees, sandwiches and paninis, pizza, savory crepes, salads, etc...many dishes sounded really good, but in the end we went splitters on the two pork paninis that were both really delicious...though, i think hers was better than mine, with grilled haloumi cheese and smoked pork loin (mine was good, too, with avocado and roasted pork)...each came with the perfect amount of french fries and a small greek salad that was really fresh and well seasoned. my only complaint is that they are cash only, and i didnt see this info anywhere on the menu (not that i was really looking) nor did the waitress tell us when we were seated...now, i could understand if this were a small restaurant, but its a pretty big place, and it was kinda shocking they didnt take credit cards, and its really annoying to have to leave my date sitting at the dinner table while i run to the nearest atm (which was at some random bank that im sure no one has an account at, where they charged $2-f'ing-75, grrr!). it would be nice if they let you know before hand i will def come back here, as the location is great, the outdoor seating abundant and the food very tasty...there is the potential for more stars after i sample some other offerings ;) read more

I was brought here by a Greek. And I have to say, not as bad as I expected! I walk passed here all of the time and have no desire to go in when it's crowded, but when it's slow, it's quite pleasant. And I enjoyed my meal as well as the very sweet, well mannered wait staff! read more

I prefer the staff at Athens Cafe. Friendlier and serving a better coffee.

Horrible place, met 4 friends for Sunday brunch and was the worst place I've eaten in queens! Took 15 minutes for drink order, after we went to find someone, twice! Appetizers and food all came at once, and that was the last time we saw our waitress. Waffles & eggs were cold... just horrible! Go to other places like Flo or Ovelia both on 30th ave! read more

The place is really nice inside however we came in the middle of the winter and it was freezing inside the restaurant. I order the chicken kebab sandwich with the side salad. It was good but the chicken in the sandwich were huge chunks and it made it hard to eat and at sometimes it felt like it wasn't cooked through. The pizza we had was soggy at the bottom a little too. read more

I like to come to Avenue when I'm craving hummus or a bacon burger. I have also had their chicken Caesar salad. Their food is really tasty. Sometimes the staff can take a while to come and they aren't so attentive. read more

Meh, meh, meh... Took forever to get our drinks. My dirty Ketel One martini tasted like it was not kettle one and the olives weren't fresh. If I had asked to have it made over, I'd have to wait another 10 minutes. My "Cobb Salad" was bland. My friend's pizza was doughy and hardly had any sauce. We sent it back. Had to ask to have waters refilled every time.... How hard is it to keep people walking around with jugs of water to fill up glasses? Won't be going back. read more

Found the menu online and came by. The decor and feel of the place is very modern and lounge like, which sends mixed messages when paired with their simple cafe menu. Overall food came quickly and correctly, which is all I was asking for. read more

With such a great environment who wouldn't be a fan of this café. Food is good, coffee in general is good, but when it comes to Nescafe frappé there are good days and bad days; all depends who is behind the bar making it! read more

the food here is great! sure, it's frequently crowded (i never understand how this is a criticism, really... what do you expect from a good restaurant?!) service isn't always fantastic and i REALLY don't like that they let ppl smoke outside - i'm convinced that's illegal in nyc - but the food is very good and fresh, you can sit outside, and it's well-priced. the guac is great and they have a delicious salmon salad. def recommend! read more

Although I find this place to be over priced and have a pretty boring menu, I must rave about the grilled chicken cobb salad. I actually CRAVE this salad weekly. It is the perfect mix of grilled chicken, avocado, bleu cheese, egg and bacon. The greek olives , although not a normal cobb salad ingredient, compliment the salad nicely. The lemon dressing is delicious and goes great with this salad. It's $13 which I guess is right on the brink of being an overpriced salad, but I say for the size you get (I usually get for dinner and have leftovers for lunch the next day) and how delicious it is, its worth it! read more

Lovely place and great service! You cannot miss the Frozen Margaritas and the desserts!!

Best food. Best music. Best atmosphere. Best drinks. Love how they have a smoking section in the summer. I recommend trying their pizzas, wraps, and burgers. You will not be disappointed. They always make my frappes and cocktails to my liking which I love! Awesome location. Love my waitress Maria! She was very sweet. read more

Love the shepherd salad with grilled chicken. The service is pretty good. They always refill water ask if you need anything else, etc. what I don't like is that the music is sooooo loud you can't have a conversation. One time I was literally texting other people I was sitting with because we could not hear each other with the music so loud. read more

I have come here on several occasions, whether late at night or early in the afternoon and have always managed to grab a table. The pizza here is really good and worth the wait and so is anything else you order. The place it self is very modern and trendy and really pleasing to spend time with friends and just talk. The outside seating is also available and during colder days the heat lights are on for you while you are sipping a frappe. read more

so. this past sunday the weather was gorgeous. my boyfriend and i originally had plans to go to brooklyn for lunch, but figured since it was so, so nice out we would go to astoria and try to sit somewhere outside, in the sun and enjoy it. we passed by avenue and there was a table outside so we quickly grabbed it, as it was the only one open and everywhere else looked pretty packed. so needless to say, i was very excited as ive heard great things. let me start by saying our service was MEDIOCRE AT BEST. our waiter was so slow, so quiet we could barely hear him, and he barely came back to check on us. i get that it was busy and he had a lot of tables, but anytime i needed anything i had to flag him down or ask someone else to get him. ok so this is what we ordered- he got a frappe, i got a bloody mary (mimosa), chicken skewers, burger, parma panini sandwich. my bloody mary came out pretty quickly but my boyfriends frappe didnt. we asked where it was and he said oh yeah, its coming. he finally came back with it about 5 minutes later which was when i told him that i absolutely could not drink my bloody mary. i LOVE spicy bloody marys just as much as the next person. but this was disgusting. could not drink it at all. so i told my waiter, he looked at me like i had 10 heads and then i asked for a mimosa, which i got about 10 minutes later. when we ordered the chicken skewers he told us they would take a while and maybe not come out before our main entrees, which we were ok with, but a little confused as to why it takes so long to grill chicken. anyway... the food finally came. let me say i was not impressed. the chicken didnt even seem fully cooked and didnt really have much flavor. my burger, which i asked for it to be medium, had these really gross pieces of congealed fat on top of it. when i pointed it out to the waiter he told me that had happened because the burger was medium. thats not true, i mean as far as i know. i always order burgers medium and that never happens. pretty sure the burger was frozen when they cooked it and thats why that happened. but what do i know? the waiter KIND of asked if i wanted something different but he didnt really seem concerned that i was unhappy with my food so i passed. my boyfriends panini was OK. finally we decided that we were done and didnt want o sit there anymore waiting for our waiter to decide that we were worthy of his time, so we asked another waiter to ask him to get us our check, our waiter finally came by and asked how we were and we told him we were waiting for the check. he acted like the other guy never told him, which is possible but really ? all in all i was really unimpressed with avenue cafe and will most likely NOT be returning or telling any of my friends to go either. their only saving grace is that my burger was taken off the bill. read more

Great brunch place good food and drinks ....saves a trip to the city...good ambiance ...and summer time can dig outside

horrible service. i mean horrible!!!!. the cleaning guys over there who clean up the tables after you are much better than those dumb waitresses. we dropped a fork off from the table and in no seconds this guy comes out of nowhere to give us a new pair of fork and knife. impressive.... the waitress didnt know the wines in the menu and i had to show her the menu to have her understand what i wanted. took forever to serve food. never came even once to ask how was the food. then we ordered coffee and cake and she took damn 15 minutes to come back and tell us they didnt have the cake which we ordered. never refilled the glass of water during 1 hour of stay. and worst of all they only take cash payments......wont go there again.. oh btw, mozerralla and tomatoe salad was stale... read more
