Radha, Jess, pat, and meera are always amazing. I love this location (and have been splitting visits with the 4th st location because Daniel was always fun to interact with and I miss seeing him at Hillsdale!) I've only ever had pleasant interactions and always look forward to stopping in anytime I'm in the area. Great products and even better service! read more

Since my favorite Aveda store in Stonetown got shut down, I decided to try the Aveda Store in Hillsdale mall. It's terrible that the mall is open, their sign said open til 9pm but the the store is closed! I'm not sure if it worth to return here. What's going on? I can't really blame on Covid! I guess online shopping is always the option! read more

Jessica helped me with a beautiful selection of moisturizer and quickly moved to providing enthusiasm and support for other options. Very knowledgeable and friendly! Products smell amazing and I hope deliver the "brightness" promised. read more

This review is for Michelle M (a Pisces QUEEN picking up a shift from the Dublin store I believe) who gave me AMAZING customer service tonight. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and then decided to add on some extra items. Michelle made sure to let me know about the Pure Privilege benefits program and she signed me up to help me use points towards my purchase. She was so kind, very easy going, and had a great attitude. We finished our transaction and she topped it all off with a relaxing shoulder/scalp massage...which I definitely needed! I left the store feeling very relaxed and taken care of :) thanks so much, girl I appreciate you! You're awesome and you totally made my day! read more

Aveda Store - I thought mall shops should be open during mall hours - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - San Mateo, California

Similar experience as Kayla G with potentially the same lady! Went in to buy some conditioner, when she rang me up it was more expensive than I expected. I believe because the last time I bought it there was a sale. When I saw the price I told the lady (hair back in ponytail, glasses, older) "actually I'm so sorry I don't want to get this anymore" I apologized multiple times and reiterated that I didn't want to buy it. She literally didn't say a word and just stared me down silently as I started to walk away. Finally I told her to stop staring at me because it was such a bizarre reaction to have toward a customer who changed their mind.... It made me feel so uncomfortable and pathetic since I couldn't afford the product. Extremely rude. read more

AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. They're nice to you if you keep buying/exchanging stuff but if you're here for a straight return based on verbal promises good luck getting your money back. I first came here with an open mind and allowed the SA to do a scalp test and she recommended the invati line to me (no surprise the most expensive one). She assured me I could return products as long as I didn't use over half the bottle. Well I returned them because they didn't seem to be working. I returned them to a store in SF and the SA recommended a combination of different products. The line still didn't work out for me. I went back to this store in SM and the same original SA recommended a different line. I came here to return one of the unused products from that line. The store manager (a male with an accent) refused to give me anything but store credit. He tried to explain the reasoning by referring to my history of returns which was over the span of a year. I also bought things I did not return but he didn't seem to care. No mention of a strict return policy or anything. He refused to budge and blamed it on the system. I call BS. My guess is he thinks I'm someone who takes advantage of return policies. It's not on me if your products didn't work and I was promised returns would not be an issue. Furthermore, sir, if I paid you in cash, I expect cash in return. Since when did cash = credit? Justify that to me with real reasons. At this point I'm just trying to use up what I have because the products are a bunch of renamed chemicals they are selling to you. It's not that natural and does nothing for your hair. I may consider gifting some of their brushes or scents in the future but NEVER COMING BACK to this store. read more

Okay people, tell me why there is a "Tester" label on a shampoo in the store? Funny, I asked the clerk if she would give me a small sample/vial of the new Be Curly Shampoo, and she said 'no, sorry.' So are we expected to wash our hair there? read more

This review is really for Gina. I have had some issues with the selling at Aveda stores and tend to avoid them. Yesterday, I went in for my birthday gift, only intending to pick it up and go. I was greeted by Gina, who has a lovely smile and a good face. :) She offered me a neck massage. How could I say no? The experience was soothing, and just what I needed after a strenuous birthday mall run. She loaded me up with information, advice and coupons, but not in a pushy way. I also really appreciated that she was conscious of my time. I can't say enough about how knowledgeable and serene Gina is. She increased my respect for the Aveda, just for hiring someone like her. They are lucky to have her! And, I did buy a product, which I normally wouldn't... go, Gina! read more

I just wanted to give a major shout out to Jessica Oliver at the hills dale location. I have ridiculously long and thick hair and she never ceases to amaze me with her expertise and knowledge of hair care! She always remembers my name and follows up and asks questions s about previous purchases and is always showing me the latest products and even offered me a complimentary scalp message when I was in last week! It's so hard taking care of all this hair so I love being able to refer to someone who really knows what they're talking about and always gives great customer service!!!! Thanks again Jess and see you soon!!!! read more

Good products, but the customer service sucks. Especially the guy with the accent - he's terrible as a sales person!

This is probably the only store I actually enjoy going into at Hillsdale Mall. With all of the stores still open in this tough economic climate, Aveda is the only store that seems to have any class, substance, and welcoming atmosphere. Plus, the entire Aveda line is wonderful. Sure, some ingredients might cause adverse irritations for some people, but that is just the nature of skincare/cosmetics. But, I have never had any bad reactions to any of their products I have tried. And, I have tried plenty and been an Aveda user for over a decade. This specific location is wonderful. Like I said, it is a welcomed break from the other stores that either do not cater to my lifestyle (kids stores or ghetto fabulous bedazzled stores) or have the worst customer service ever. Unlike those stores, this Aveda location offers a product line that is "green" and somewhat (if not entirely) eco-friendly. And, the sales ladies always have a smile on their faces, say hi, ask me how my day is, offer me some tea, and let me browse at my leisure. I've never noticed them be pushy with any customer, and I've seen plenty of pushy sales associates in my time. Thank you Aveda Hillsdale for being awesome! read more

As part of my search for beauty products, namely bath salts, I decided to check out what Aveda had to offer. This store is quite big and items well-organized. I agree that the staff are not as knowledgeable about the products as I hoped they would be... I think only people who are beauty junkies should be allowed to work at beauty product shops. Otherwise, you just end up with the wrong products. Anyways, the saleslady who helped me did a great job. I never knew they did custom scents for some of their unscented products. I also got roped into signing up for an Aveda membership that allows you to earn 10 points per $1 spent. When you sign up for $10 (it's not free,) you get a free gift bag of their most popular products. You can swap those points for items on a special "catalog" of sorts. Finally, you have a gift for your birthday. I guess I will now become an Aveda fan... read more

The product is fabulous, especially their get curly serum. Definitely pricey but I've always received nothing but compliments about using their hair products. On the other hand, I have been going to this store ever since it opened, and have found it to be a different experience every time I go. The sales associates can sometimes be a little pushy. One woman tried to push some kind of green tea serum for my hair - my hair isn't even oily and when I said no, she made some comment about how I really should reconsider. Other times I come in and get offered a hand massage and even a free sample or to. Basically, you hit this store on the right day and you have encountered the meaning of Aveda. Other days, you leave feeling like you have been badgered/hassled into oblivion. read more

For anybody that likes Aveda I have recommended this store. I had to buy travel size hair sprays, facial moisturizer, and could not find my regular stuff. Also, my sister and I had broken down who would bring what and all I needed to hear was my sister barking about how "ghetto" I was on my half of the toiletries. I came in here and the girl that helped me let me try everything... she even fixed my hair for me!! I had showered and gotten dressed on a time crunch and she made it easy for me to buy my stuff here. I didn't mind I had spent way more than I would have, say, at bath and body works, because she was uber nice. I mean, there I was, running around every store asking for travel sizes one moment and the next moment I'm sitting on a chair at Aveda sipping green tea and getting my hair done. Not that it's a really difficult do... use product on bangs and comb to one side. But who does that?! Wow... easy easy. read more

Hmmm....it took a while for the sales associate to take a liking to me. It wasn't until I had picked up over $100 in product that she seemed to warm up. Before then, seemed she hovered like I was going to steal something. Good product...sales associates need some training in connecting with their customers. The store needs to warm up a bit as well, the feeling is a bit cold. read more

I went in during the holidays looking to get a curly hairstyling product my mother had fallen in love with previously. When I arrived I was unable to find it. Paige, the store attendant asked if I needed help. I showed her the picture and she said that unfortunately they discontinued it. Disappointed I was going to leave. Paige started asking me questions about my moms hair and what she liked about the product etc. I did my best to explain. Paige went to the back and brought out a large book of ingredients for all their current products!! She explained things to me and ways to try to recreate the product my mom loved!! This is ABOVE and BEYOND customer service. Nowadays I find it harder and harder to find good people who care about customer service. If I could give her 10 stars I would. She is amazing!! I really appreciate people so willing to help and go above the expectations. I meant to write this review during the holidays, when this occurred but as many people know that is a crazy time! I went back in today, and there she was with who I think were her bosses! I sang her praises once again and she helped my mom in person!! The world needs more people like Paige! Aveda is extremely lucky to have such a fantastic and caring employee!! read more

I love the products and have been using them for years!!! The service at this store on the other hand leaves much to be desired!!!! Very rude, and hard to get information out of. I have turned my whole family into Aveda freaks, so when we were having a girls day at the mall we went in to pick up a total of 5 things, and it took over 1/2 an hour to get anyone to help us...there was only one other customer in the store. Two of the sales associates were too busy talking to each other to bother with us. I live in Palo Alto, and work in San Mateo, but find myself going to San Jose for good customer service. read more

I first tried their rosemary mint shampoo while at a resort and fell in love with that spa-fresh smell that lingered in my hair all day. So, while cruising Hillsdale mall one day, I decided to treat myself to some Aveda treats and strolled into the store to take a look. Holy aggressive saleslady! Apparently she didn't understand the subtle nuances of the English language because when I told her repeatedly, "I'm just looking, thanks" she apparently heard "Wow, I'd really love it if you could hover over me and be my personal tour guide, just to make sure I see AAALLL of your products. Ooo and even better is if you'd start putting an imaginary gift package together that would make such a great gift for my best friend!" It's a shame cuz they do have some lovely products (try their herbal mint/licorice tea if you're ever there), but I'll think twice before I go back to that store again. read more

WARNING: If you are attempting to buy AVEDA products be sure that is the product you want. God for bid you are allergic, because if you are attempting to return even with a receipt on hand it will be an adventure. I returned two items with a receipt but did not have my card with me and the sales clerk wanted to give me store credit. I looked at her and told her that is not acceptable and she just looked at me like take it or leave it. Sorry, I am allergic what could I possible buy without ending up in the ER. I requested to speak to the manager or someone who could actually help me without given me dirty looks, so I spoke to a representative on the phone and now I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get my money back. That will be the first and last time I will ever walk into a AVEDA store. Thanks, but NO THANKS! read more

We use Aveda hair products for many years and recently have been experiencing very itchy hair. We can't figure out what ingredient in the products is causing this. We caution people not to order online because if you need to return something you ordered online at the store, the store will not accept it. The online entity and the Aveda store are the same company so this policy sucks. If you were to order an item online from Macy or Nordstrom and have to return the item because the size is wrong or you don't like the fit, etc. there is no problem taking the item to the store. So Aveda should reconsider its policy. read more

When I'm feeling down and need a little "pick me up" I come to the Aveda store. Everything smells wonderful and I like that they are good to the environment. I like that you gets points for purchase and that they can be used for spa services at the Aveda Salon in the city. Plus it's nice to get all those freebie promotions in the mail. Sometime I go in and end up purchasing other items (which is what the promotions are hoping you will do) but there have been several times when I've gone in and received my free item without making a purchase and they staff was just as accommodating and friend as the times I did buy something. read more

I am not rating this lower because most of the products are great and of high quality. I believe in this company's business philosophy of sustainable agriculture, strong emphasis on recycling, and use of natural ingredients in their products. But you pay for it. These products are a bit expensive. I've tried many of the hair care products and they are very good. I tried some of the makeup but not that impressed. I tried the dual foundation (compact foundation) and it makes me look pasty. I even had the salesgirl test the correct color on me, so she either gave me the wrong color or it's the makeup. I tried the blush and it comes on streaked and I have to really blend it with a brush. The eyeliners seem ok. I joined the Aveda Pure Privilege program for $10 and accumulated points from all my purchases. I got enough points to redeem for some magazines. After 3 months, I still hadn't gotten the magazines so I sent an email about it. No response after another 2 months so I sent another email. It's been about a year now and I still haven't received anything. So, I threw away that card and just buy the tried and true products I've always liked over the years and don't bother with the makeup. read more

I came here to try their hand lotion after seeing it in a magazine. I was hoping they gave out samples, but they didn't. Instead, they offered to sell the travel size ones so I bought one to give it a try. $8 is pretty pricey so hopefully it does my hands good! The staff was friendly and even offered to give my husband and I a complimentary hand massage, but we were in a rush so we kindly refused. read more

at this store i dealt with two employees who were so unbelievably conceited and rude to me that this company may have lost my business for good. oddly, both were named jessica. i normally love aveda products, but had a reaction to a conditioner i tried. i made a trip to this store to return it. one of the jessicas had the audacity to suggest that if i had a reaction on my scalp, i should continue to use the product and not put it near my scalp. she informed me that putting product only at the ends is the proper way to condition one's hair. two things here: 1) i'm an adult woman, please don't tell me that i don't know how to wash my hair. 2) i'm sure that aveda did not train you to tell customers to continue using a product that is causing skin irritation. they went on to tell me that if i did not want to keep the product, they would only offer me store credit. i had my receipt and had purchased the item a week before. i said i was within aveda's return policy guidelines. they refused to refund my credit card. there is more to this story, in terms of how rude they were, but i do not want to go on and on. i will say that this may be the most rudely i have ever been treated during a retail transaction. i stopped at another aveda store on my way home. the salesperson was pleasant, my return was issued quickly and without incident. she said 'i'm so sorry the product didn't work out for you, please come see us again soon.' five minutes total transaction. this is how the first situation should have gone. (i called the aveda 800-number to be sure that i hadn't been mistaken about their return policy. was told it is a year with receipt, to be refunded in the original form of payment.) read more

World's most expensive shampoo and conditioner that smell amazing. Just really not worth the price. And this comes from someone who enjoys overspending for stuff. Great smell on the rosemary mint hair product line, but really NOT great for my hair. read more

I only went to this location once and the lady who worked there was the bomb. She made the whole experience a 5 star one. She was so nice that she even tried to accommodate little kid who was asking for hair advise". She really took her time to listen to what I wanted, and gave more than just a "purchase recommendation". She gave out samples whenever available, and was very professional when giving out the Aveda rituals (scalp massage, neck and shoulder massage, aromatherapy). Too bad this location is too far for me to go on a regular basis. The store was also not busy so she could really take her time to help you. The size of the store is also much bigger than the one in Valley Fair Mall. read more

Big shout out to Jess O. who is incredibly friendly, not overly pushy and very knowledgeable. My niece and I popped in last night to get ONE THING and left with three additional products we adore. Jess didn't push, which is important to me. And...she offered to try and get my points reinstated and do the "leg work" for me. Greatly appreciated! read more

Yvette helped me with my purchases and was very friendly. I also lucked in when she offered to give me a shoulder and neck massage, which was frankly something I was in need of desperately. And that peppermint oil was nice and refreshing. Always think I will regret my expensive purchase at Aveda, but their products are so good and lasting. And I got a free sample. :D read more

So torn on how many stars to give! 5+ stars for the products. I love them and it's all I've used on my hair for years now and it's beyond healthy. Simply couldn't live with the medium hold Brilliant hairspray. And Custom Control is a wonderful product for just about all hair types and textures. That being said, I know more about the products than most of the people working there. So when I do need help, I'm a little stuck. Also, I spend plenty of money in this store, and have for years, I recently made one wrong purchase and decided it was worth returning it, which their policy allows for. They took it back but the manager gave me a lot of attitude about it. So you have to know what you're looking for in this store, but I love the products. Oh, and please remember to sign up for the birthday list and get a free custom perfume every year. Everyone should do this!!!! read more

I live this aveda store, it is an oasis in the mall, such wonderful service and information every time i go in, keep up the good work!

This store has terrible customer service. Their return policy says you can return a product if you are not completely satsified. However, if you actually try to do that, it is a different story. I tried returning a product and had my receipt and the sales clerk refused to do the transaction. This is totally unacceptable. I have also decided that Aveda products are inferior. They are overpriced and do not deliver good results. Will never return. read more

I went in on a quick errand and was so happy with the very nice staff. The ladies working were very attentive and pleasant. Great place to pick up quality products - the salespeople are young but seem to care about beauty and try to offer good service.

The one star is for all the great products they have. BUT, I walked in the store last night and JESSICA (THAT'S WHAT SHE TOLD ME) was the sales person there. She already had a customer so aksed me to come back so I could get my hand msaage and I was so ready to buy other stuff. I came back 10 minutes later and and she said "Guess what lady, in 2 minites you will be in business. Let me finish with this customer and then I'll take care of you. If is a 7-minute treatment." I said great and started browsing the pruducts there and making a mental note of things I wanted to buy. Some 20 minutes later she was still helping the same customer (a guy with 2 little girls) and she was ving them all kinds of free stuff and she told the little girl that she will FAKE her birthday for next month so she can get free stuff. What a horrible thing to teach young kids!!!! I didn't mind waiting becuase to me she was providing good service to customers (minus the lie about you age part) so I waited. When she finished with them she said "Oh I am sorry but let me help these ladies and then I'll be with you." Again she reiterated that it will be take about 7 minutes. Now what's wrong with the picture ... aren't we supposed to be served in the order we come to the store??? The 2 ladies that were there were kind and they even gestured me to go next BUT the salesgirl chose to serve them before me even though I was there half an hour earlier. STORE MANAGER - send your employees to customer service orientation or something!!! I was different from the other 2 customers - the only visible difference I noticed was my skin color. read more
