Seems to have went downhill since moving from Willis St. Staff is not aware of specials. Today's vegan carrot muffins tasted day old and disappointing for it being $5. I ordered cookies, a scone and tea this morning. Please note that Thursday morning special is only until 11am or right before. I went a few weeks back at 11:30am and staff said "I guess it stopped and switched over." Today was the special pricing for most of it. I also ordered a veggie quiche that came with dressed greens. I would not recommend as it was excessively salty. The spinach seemed to not be chopped and layered near the top. I wish I had stopped at the sweets. Best part whether special or not was the cookies. I don't know if they are baked daily or not, but they were kept in a plastic containers. The space is small, but dining at the Jolly Pumpkin tables is allowed. The management doesn't clearly care because staff is not fully trained. I tried emailing feedback on the Thursday special and no reply after 2 weeks or so. read more

I used to visit Avalon's old Midtown location pretty often to pick up loaves of artisan bread. After they closed and moved in with Jolly Pumpkin, they de-emphasized their bread bakery and I stopped going. Recently, I was in the area and decided to stop by to give their other baked goods a try. Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookie ($2.75) - Delicious. A gooey and extremely buttery cookie, studded with some melted and some whole chunks of chocolate. The texture is smooth and chewy at the same time. There's sea salt sprinkled on the top, but it doesn't overwhelm the flavors in the cookie. (4/5) I can't believe I never tried these cookies in the past. I will have to visit again in the future to try their other cookie types, especially because they have a Friday special for buy one cookie, get one for 25 cents. Bathrooms - Three individual rooms, one for men, one for women, one for all genders. The men's room is hidden around the corner from the other two. read more

For a former regular at the Avalon on Willis, my visit here last week was downright heartbreaking. I knew there was an issue as soon as I approached the (small) bakery case - I could spot an Avalon blueberry muffin in a lineup no problem & I still taste them in my dreams. Despite being the only customer there, I waited 10 minutes for the person behind the counter to acknowledge me, at which point they confirmed that there was only ONE Avalon baked good in the whole place (not the muffin)! I see that the Yelp description now includes partnership with local artisans or something, but the counter staff couldn't recall the name of the one bakery that made every other baked good, nor a description of many of the items. Regardless, I bought the Avalon blueberry scone &... IDK if you can tell from the pic, but it wasn't fully baked! One lonely Avalon item, & it wasn't even edible. WTH, Avalon? I just want to preface this first by stating that I have been to the Woodward location before and always enjoyed my food, so I'm upset I even have to write this review. I came here on Christmas Eve and ordered biscuits and gravy with a dressed salad on the side to go. When I opened the bag, I was incredibly disappointed in what I saw and paid for - 1 sad egg, biscuit, and extremely sweet sausage gravy. Please reference the picture attached. It tasted as bad as it looks. Now here is where I may have messed up, instead of calling the establishment back, I DM'd them on Instagram, in which they have yet to respond back. An acknowledgement or explanation would've been polite, especially since they have no issue posting 5x now. read more

They are now in a shared space. The offerings are a lot slimmer than what was available in the old full service location. The hours are a tad hit or miss. I wish they hadn't consolidated the original location with Jolly Pumpkin. read more

Very large space but not quite conducive for a coffee shop. There aren't many outlets for patrons and due to it being a brewery/coffee shop hybrid, it doesn't hold that quieter atmosphere. As far as food and drink goes, the bakery items are never a miss. I do wish the chai was more flavorful! read more

This place is always busy for a reason- good atmosphere, friendly staff, spacious interior, delicious food and drinks! Coffee and tea/chai selection is good! pastries are tasty . There is a bar with stools and a large seating area with lots of tables. Wooden interior looks really cool. Avalon is only open till 3 pm, so it's closing kinda early. Wish it was open longer! I love this place and has been coming here for more then 20 years. This is the first time at the new facility. First disappointment is the coffee. They seriously need to up the game on the coffee. the woman working at the hostess stand was a delight. however, the food? NEXT. the potatoes- fantastic. the baked goods on the other hand- might as well served me a lump of coal. the muffin was dense and dry, along with the bagel being hard enough to break a window. if youre looking for a jaw exercise, maybe this is the place for you. otherwise, i would recommend awake cafe. the previous location was much better, im curious as to what happened? slightly disappointed to say the least. read more

The barista didn't even know the specials for the month, they were extremely slow at making my latte and kept chatting with the other employee. The espresso was definitely burnt and the latte was watered down and there were flecks of espresso in the drink. It was one or the worst lattes I have ever had for $7 read more

So disappointed in the new Avalon location. I gave it two stars only because the coffee is still good. First of all, it is just a stand inside a brewery. At 7:30 a.m. I go in for coffee and a breakfast sandwich and the TVs are on everywhere. It has a brewery atmosphere not a bakery atmosphere. I ordered the Bite of Bliss which is the only healthy option they have for breakfast. It used to be non greasy and on a whole grain bun. They've changed it now and it is on a white flour bun and it came on a paper that was wet with grease. It also smelled of bacon even though it is supposedly vegetarian. I hope they find a small storefront somewhere in the area and have their own space. They really need to improve their food also. read more

The vegan muffins are SO! AMAZING! I've been eating them for years and love how they are not overly sweet, use quality ingredients, and are the perfect size (not huge, just right for breakfast when paired with coffee). The carrot pineapple and blueberry varieties are both delicious, as well as the pumpkin muffin in the fall. I really hope that Avalon never discontinues their vegan muffins. read more
