Avalon Legacy Ranch is a beautiful venue for a wedding! Came into McKinney for a wedding at this spot and the weather was really showing off this day. We had a shuttle take us from the Downtown McKinney area to the venue and it was a short-ish ride through ranches and open spaces. Once we arrived, the venue was beautifully laid out. We walked through where the reception would be (an indoor and outdoor concept) and went to where the ceremony was held. The wedding was held in the afternoon at the perfect time where it wasn't too hot and had a nice breeze rolling through the trees. The space where the ceremony was in relation to where the reception was isn't too far of a walk and, although not heel friendly, it wasn't too bad. There are many great spots to take photos at and to also hangout in between the ceremony and reception. The staff working the event was super nice and helpful the whole night. We attended a wedding here last night and still can't stop smiling at what a beautiful venue this was! It had a beautiful open air chapel with fun sliding barn doors at the entrance. Walk back on the compressed gravel trail to the main building and the reception was on the huge covered porch. There were space heaters mounted up above and put out just the right amount of heat on a coolish but beautiful evening. Great lighting on the patio, room for the double sided buffet line, tables and chairs for the reception attendees and just the right amount of room for the DJ and dance floor. I'm not sure how many guests were in attendance but I would guess around 150 or so. The inside powder room was adorable, complete with a pull chain to flush. Outdoors in the patio were more bathrooms for the cowboys and cowgirls in attendance. The overall vibe was comfortable- rustic and romantic, like you were in a beautiful wooded private space. Absolutely beautiful venue! My best friend got married here in the fall and it was gorgeous. There was a very nice, very spacious area upstairs for us to get ready - there was plenty of room for 6 bridesmaids plus the bride, and later the hair and makeup artists and the photographers. The outdoor area for the ceremony was perfect, and it was just a short walk over to where the dinner/reception was held. Again, perfect! And the 2 fire pits with seating were so great for drinking, relaxing and talking with friends. I have never ever seen an owner act this way. I was at a wedding Thursday the 5th of October the wedding started at 4:00 and we finished around 10:20. - 11:00 and the owner Debbie was one of the rudest people I have ever encountered not only did I witness her yelling at her elderly Mother! but she was so rude to the staff and vendors I am surprised they were able to keep their cool. I personally witnessed her scream at one of the female bartenders calling her a derogatory term and the other guests were just appalled I would recommend people look elsewhere! BRIDES BEWARE posted 11/4/2015 I've waited over two weeks to write this review. After the dust settled, so to speak. This is a beautiful rustic venue but is poorly managed. We still have not received our deposit after leaving the venue cleaner than when we arrived. My daughter's wedding was on a Friday and our set-up time began at 10:00am. We had hair and makeup going on upstairs, the florist was setting up as well as reconfiguring for Plan B as it was raining and we would not be able to utilize the chapel. All of a sudden 30 people appeared for a rehearsal scheduled that morning for their wedding the next day. Unacceptable! This was our time to set up. Time that we paid to have to ourselves. Our florist had used Eucalyptus down the aisles and over the archway for the ceremony. This is expensive and has to be ordered ahead of time as it is not kept in stock in the DFW area. It was stepped on by the wedding party attending the rehearsal however, the other bride admired this and wanted it for her wedding the next day. Debi Parker-Ladd, the venue owner, gave her permission to use our Eucalyptus without consulting anyone in our wedding party. I was planning on taking the Eucalyptus and making wreaths as it lasts for many weeks and has a soothing fragrant smell. After cleaning up that evening, I asked for the Eucalyptus and was told by Debi's son, who signed off on our checklist to be refunded our deposit, that he had bagged it up and put it in the dumpster. Because of the torrential rainfall at the time, I decided to not retrieve the Eucalyptus. I decided to investigate further and learned that our Eucalyptus was, in fact, used at the wedding the next day. Debi Parker-Ladd tried to over charge for rehearsal times when the contract clearly states what additional charges are to be expected. Ms. Ladd inserted herself as a guest at our wedding by eating our food and drinking our wine. We were promised by Ms. Ladd that she would take care of rearranging the chairs and tables after the ceremony to get ready for the reception. My sister, a wedding guest and myself moved the tables and chairs. We brought everything with us and noticed one of our items was marked on with a sharpie "Avalon Legacy Ranch" I immediately explained to Ms. Ladd that this was our personal property not hers. At the onset, we were promised a list of vendors, bartenders, rental supply companies, musicians etc... When I repeatedly asked Ms. Ladd for this list, I was told to refer to Google and Facebook for this information. The previous weekend our son was married in Austin. A completely lovely experience at a venue overlooking Lake Travis. We had the entire use of the venue for the weekend and cleanup was Sunday. No uninvited guests interrupted our festivities. The rental price for this venue was even less than Avalon. The bridal party was allowed to stay at the house for the weekend. Research all venues and as always, get everything in writing! J. I wish we would have done more research and read the reviews before we spent hard earned money on this place. The owner, Debi was rude and very un-helpful. She acted like a guest at our wedding and ate our food and drank our wine. The house was dirty, bathrooms filthy, dishwasher full of dirty dishes. We had to wipe the kitchen down and sweep before we could begin our set up. She inserted herself in areas that did not concern her. She had 4 showings of the venue while we were trying to set up. She had 30 plus people doing a rehearsal while we were setting up. She tried to overcharge for an item with the cost already set forth in the contract. She did not repond to phone calls quickly or professionally. She was rude to my DJ and bar tender. We left the house nicer and cleaner than it was found and she wanted to keep a portion of our deposit. She made us take the trash to the dumpster in the pouring rain. It was a miserable experience. We did not get to meet her mother who may be nicer and totally different than Debi, I do not know. All I do know is that I am sick that our wedding day will be remembered for a bunch of hard work and not enjoyable for my family because the venue was dirty and has a "wet dog" smelll when you enter the front door. Brides....if you want a special day with good memories to last a lifetime DO NOT go here. My daughter and fiancé put a deposit down in November 2016 for a December 2017 wedding, my dad, her grandfather passed away Dec.21, she had to start chemotherapy and it was decided the wedding would have to wait-Indefinitely.. called and spoke with the owner hoping to get our deposit refunded for mounting medical expenses... I figured with 11 months notice and under the circumstances they would work with me to re-book the date with another couple or group and at least be willing to refund part of the deposit... have heard nothing back from them, emailed the owner again and explained again ... still no response ... not very impressed in the lack of compassion due to the circumstances and lack of response ... one more thing to add to an already very stressful situation read more

This place is wonderful if you plan on having a group of 100-150 or more. Debbie and Fay are extremely nice people and they had no problem showing me and my friend around while we were on our search for a venue for my wedding. The prices for a Saturday and I are $6500, and $5500 for a Friday or Sunday wedding. As much as I love the fact that an outdoor chapel, three fire pits, bridal suite upstairs, formal sitting with comfy couches and leather chairs, a long dining table, and wrap around porch area are available with plenty of seating, it is difficult being in the area outside of the town of McKinney, not having accommodations for overnight guest. However, I do highly recommend this place if you are looking for a group of that size, and you do not mind spending at those rates. Would also like to add, Debbie spends a great deal, along with her landscape artist, on the shrubbery and flowers that are in bloom and the Cedar trees behind the chapel area are just beautiful. read more

VENDORS BEWARE!!!!! I was here at a wedding as a vendor this past Thursday. In all my years I have never written a bad review because I believe everyone has bad days. HOWEVER the women Debbie who runs the place was rude to the staff screamed at the bartenders to do things that were NOT their responsibility and she even upset the bridal party. The police officers that were there told me that she has abused and fired them repeatedly. Only to re hire them because no one else will come work there. When we confronted her about her behavior in a very respectful way she stormed off and locked herself in her bedroom like a petulant child ! I would recommend everyone find a better venue . I for one will be making sure my staff is paid extra to make up for the abuse tonight and letting every vendor I work with in real estate and in the wedding scene to take their business elsewhere. At the end of the day you really have to ask yourself is this how you want the staff on your special day to be treated? Also I notice that Debbie has personally responded to EVERY negative review on her trying to discredit them by telling them they must be a scam or fake that yelp doesn't allow too many good reviews. I found Avalon Legacy Ranch (ALR) through the Knot app and fell in love with the photos. I scheduled several venue tours and ALR was the first venue we visited. As soon as I took the tour I canceled all of my other venue visits and my husband Steve and I booked our wedding at Avalon Legacy Ranch. It was a risky decision not to look at any other venues but I have zero regrets about booking with ALR right away. ALR is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is so wonderful to work with! We worked with Debbie to book our date and we worked with Alee closer to our big day. They are great! My wedding coordinator and I sat down with Alee about a month before the wedding to go over every single detail and Alee was so helpful. They created a packet with questions for brides/grooms to use so you do not miss any detail. I am SO GRATEFUL for that information and those questions. Thanks to ALR's help no detail of our big day was missed. The staff allows you to use any vendors you prefer but they have a vendor list that was SO HELPFUL. We used the DJ and caterer that they recommended and they were both wonderful. They upstairs bridal suite was so much fun to use the day of the wedding. I had 10 bridesmaids and there was plenty of room for us to have our hair and make-up done and also relax and hang out. My husband and the groomsmen enjoyed hanging out downstairs and outside. The grounds are so beautiful for pictures and the chapel area is so sweet and intimate. I also loved using the porch for our reception and the downstairs of the home for our buffet line and bar. Since the venue is so beautiful, it is so easy to decorate. I absolutely love all of our wedding photos all over the grounds. I am so grateful for the wonderful staff at ALR and for their beautiful venue. It was the perfect place for my husband and I to start our lives together and we will treasure Avalon Legacy Ranch forever. read more

Our wedding turned out great! As a bride, I loved the feel, flexibility, and variety. I happen to be a wedding photographer, have been for 6 years, and have worked with dozens of venues all over the state, country, and out of country. As a professional wedding vendor, I would have to honestly say that I was disappointed with the lack of professionalism and organization. We took a tour and at the end we all sat at a beautiful wooden table. Right as my father signed the check, Debi propped her bare feet on the table right in front of us. It really irked me that anyone would do that in front of people signing a good amount of money over to you. We then made sure to make an appointment with Debi for our engagement photos. I was a little perturbed because when we got there, the gate was locked and no one was in sight. We called her and she seemed to hardly remember us calling. She had us reach right behind the gate and find a spare key to unlock the gate, which broke. In the end, we were told to jump the fence. The porch was littered with trash. We found a couple weeks worth of dog poo on the upper balcony connected to the bridal suite and noted the door to the suite upstairs was propped open and there was poo on the inside. Take that as you will. I find not locking the venue a direct liability. Had we been criminals, we could have destroyed the place and stolen everything. We signed the contract 08/14 and it took until late 01/15 to receive our copy back in the mail after a few weeks of voicemails and emails Debi says she never received. Difficult communication was a common theme throughout our experience. As a bride, I would've appreciated more reliable communication and I felt completely ignored Day of the wedding, we were greeted by dog poo in the bridal suite, crumbs on the coffee table, used makeup in the bathroom, and flies everywhere. The women's bathroom outside was leaking from the ceiling and the toilet paper was soaked from the rain. The propane heaters were not all fully filled and 2 of them went out before the reception started. They did nothing to refill them. We are thankful that Debi allowed us to put a tent over the chapel area despite never having done it before, and chopping down a tree in the process. We're also thankful she allowed us to keep food in the fridge overnight Professionally, I have no respect for the management of this venue, solely because I've seen how venues should be run. Debi likes to post photos of the events. She should do this and has every right to, but the quality of the photos she posts do not show any aspect of the day in good light, especially the bride. I was glad she honored my request to not post photos of me. It's just a personal professional pet peeve. You should always showcase the best of your venue, no less. BRIDES-TO-BE AVOID THIS VENUE! You don't need added stress. Be ready to pre clean before you set up! It was weird that we arrived actually later than the 9am time that we set and Debbie was meeting with potential clients and the place was not clean, we had to wipe down the table and chairs before we could set up, as well as remove other decorations from the night before. The spool the cake had been on the night before was gross. I had brought glass cleaner to use on some vintage window we brought and when I couldn't find it I asked if they had seen it, well they were using is, handed it back to me pretty much empty. We did have a fire occur during set up from some lighting that had been covered up that we were not aware that even existed, , there were NO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ANYWHERE, we had at least 5 people searching while others hurried to try and get water to put it out. (however 2 magically appeared the next morning) Even before the fire was out Debbie was asking about our insurance and pointing blame. I feel it would have gone over better with an apology and assuring us she would have the mess cleaned up and it wouldn't happen again. It rained during the reception and water came through between the house and reception area creating slippery areas and getting people wet. I would actually give the outside area looks and chapel area a 4 star it was stunning, the only flaw was that the aisle are can be slick when wet. I think Debbie's lack of experience in the wedding planning area and communication skills needs a lot of work. read more

BUYER BEWARE: Our wedding was here and Debi didn't respond to messages quickly and does not help you plan. Shortly after the wedding, she was in trouble with the Fire Marshall. She setup a table in front of a window and lighting. My family decorated the tables with the help of Debi and her mom. The window light caught a blanket on fire. The light under the window was on early afternoon and the table went up in flames. Thanks to my friends, it was extinguished before anyone or any structural damage was done. Multiple witness accounts: no one who worked on property knew where fire extinguishers were and stated there weren't any. Only Debi's mom helped inside and instructed someone there was an extinguisher under the desk which was a propane tank. When Debi was asked about extinguishers she never commented and told her sons to hurry and get the hose working. My friends tore through all common areas to find an extinguisher without finding one. After things were under control, Debi was asked if we should call the fire department, she didn't respond but walked off and shook her head no. After she rudely and aggressively asked for our event insurance. I asked her what we could do so this didn't happen again and she said, "Make sure nothing is in front of the light." I told her, "That's not an acceptable response. Can we please put tape or something on a switch so it doesn't get turned on?" (She setup the tables). She fired back, "You don't get to talk to me like that. My house almost burned down! Get me your event insurance information!" I quickly left as her presence as she was causing more stress. She was exaggerating since most of the damage was done to our decorations and tools and the damage to her house was superficial. Debi showed no interest in making sure everyone was ok or helping with my wedding. When cleaning up the fire we found a light which appeared to have fire damage on it just not as severe. When we arrive to setup, Avalon was completely trashed from the night before and we were forced to cleanup everything. Someone still lives in the house as closets still had clothes and shoes in them, the fridge still had food in it and was filthy, the beds weren't made when we came back on Sunday, and day of the groom's suite had a dog puppies in it and one pup ran through the house during the reception getting paw prints everywhere. We came back on Sunday bc it rained after our ceremony and we couldn't get everything out of the house without damaging our property. Sunday, there were empty and half drank soda cans (which we had NOT left) as well as a large bowl of half eaten mac n cheese in the sink from our food. Who knows what else they helped themselves too. We left the house cleaner than it was given to us. Based on investigation of Collin County Fire Codes, Avalon is in violation of MANY codes and I highly recommend anyone looking to book this venue finds a new one. read more

A friend got married here last week and unfortunately had some pretty awful weather. Luckily, they moved everything around and were able to still have an awesome ceremony and reception in the covered porch area. It was a lot of fun and I have to say the food was fantastic! The staff was always around to help and were on top of clearing tables and dishes as the reception went on. They even had someone greet each car as they arrived and walked them to the entrance with an umbrella (my wife was especially thankful). From a guest's perspective, I had zero complaints. read more

I attended a wedding here a few months ago. The venue is rustic chic which is very popular now. I have never been to a venue of this type before but now that my own daughter is getting married I want to find a place that measures up to ALR. The open air wedding chapel was my favorite spot on the huge space. Also the fire pits gazebos with the blue glass fire rings were absolutely enchanting. I could have sat there all night. There were plenty of bathrooms available to accommodate the 150 people. Even though it rained I never had to worry about getting wet. Everything was covered. The inside of the house was breathtakingly beautiful with special details to lighting and furniture that was inviting and cozy. The tables were beautifully decorated. As I said I need to find a place to measure up to ALR because we don't live in Texas. It is tempting to move the location 1000 miles just to be able to use this special place. read more

While I can appreciate that everyone has different beliefs, I was really taken aback today when I called to inquire about a possible viewing to see this space. I told Debbie that my fiancé and I were looking at venues and would like to come by. When she found out that my fiancé was a women, she stated that she was a preachers wife and believed that marriage was only between a man and a women. Had she stopped there, I could have respected her difference of opinion. She took it a step further when she said "I don't want to get sued and be in the news so if you want to come here fine but we don't support that lifestyle." She went on to say she has a gay family member which I felt was somewhat irrelevant. If you are hosting a same-sex wedding, don't waste your time. If you are a straight couple who believes in equality, beware! My husband and I could go on and on with wonderful things to say about Avalon Legacy Ranch. We can't believe it has come and gone! The hubs proposed on 8/24/2015, and our wedding date was set for 8/6/2016. After almost a year of planning, he was playing basketball and injured himself pretty badly a few weeks before the wedding. Immediate surgery (with screws and 50+ stitches) was required, and the thought of changing our entire wedding date came to mind. I texted Avalon Legacy Ranch late one night (a few days before the surgery), and let's just say they were there for us every step of the way and made sure that our new wedding date was going to be even more perfect than the original date. We were so thankful we were able to move our wedding to 11/11/2016--a date that we now believe was meant to be! From beginning to end, our wedding day was truly a celebration filled with love and all of our favorite people in the world. We couldn't have asked for better weather. From the beautiful ceremony in Avalon's outdoor garden chapel, to the sparkling lights and gorgeous greenery...everyone went above and beyond to make our wedding day magical and memorable. A little bit about the venue...the upstairs area is extremely spacious and cozy for your bridal party to get ready and relax. I had 14 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, and a few other special ladies, and the upstairs was more than enough room for us to all get ready and enjoy the day, take pictures, dance, etc.! There are plenty of restrooms and a great kitchen for catering. The outdoor chapel is unbelievably gorgeous and doesn't need "much" decor because of its natural beauty. It is just a short walk over the bridge, not far at all. We held our dinner/reception on the covered deck which was surrounded by sparkling lights. Again, everything was perfect! Avalon has three beautiful fire pits, and one of them can be used for s'mores. We took advantage of all three, and the photos are adorable with kisses and melted marshmallows! All in all, Avalon Legacy Ranch was perfect beyond words, and if we ever need to throw another huge party someday, I would hope we could have it there. Highly recommend this beautiful venue! read more
